It was... nice. Sitting here in the rain, chatting with Mika. She could have easily casted the Umbrella Charm, but this feels so much more carefree and alive. Besides, they are only kids, might as well live a little before old age catches up.

So together they sat, Mika serving them the cold tea and Skylar speaking as if she were royalty. The tea was severely diluted due to the rainwater that keeps filling it, but she can always chalk it up as never-ending tea. It is more water than tea, but that is the art of imagination: you can always believe something if you try hard enough.

But then Mika became quiet. Skylar's brows furrow with concern as her friend seems to be in discomfort. She was probably getting a headache from the cold rain. The cold was also slowly creeping up on Skylar as well. Though this was a nice tea party, they are going to have to head in soon if they do not want to get sick.

"Hey, you alright?" Skylar asks, slightly concerned. "Well, we are running out of tea anyway. Let us just head back inside and we can enjoy some warm tea there."

Standing up, she begins cleaning up the tea set. She tries to dry them the best she could before stuffing them into her handbag, but alas there is so much she can do. She shall deal with it later. Holding out her hand to Mika, Skylar gives a comforting grin.

"Come on! Let us go get dried first and then we can meet up later in the library. Preferably with a nice, hot cup of cocoa. Or tea. Or just a plate of cookies would be nice, too."

Linking her arm with her best friend, Skylar makes her way out of the ball. Her dress was soaked, her hair wet from the rain, yet she could not be happier. The sky almost seemed brighter as she heads out, and Skylar cannot help the small smile that graces her face.

This was nice.

Time seemed to slow down as the pumpkin soup sailed through the air, arcing towards the flames. Then Joseph tripped. It all felt wrong for a moment. SPLAT! Soup struck at his feet, slathering his boots in a brand new coat of orange. His eyes widened in horror.

“Yuck… pumpkinified boots,” he said, scowling at the sticky squelch as he lifted a heel. He rubbed at the back of his neck. “That’s gotta be… the most epic fire extinguishing fail ever.”

Behind, Eona’s face twisted into a grimace. Sympathy? Disappointment? Absolute disgust at his clumsy efforts? He couldn’t tell – not under the flame’s thrashing light – though he seriously hoped it wasn’t the third. Was it that hard to keep just the teeniest bit of dignity?

A sudden rumble drew his gaze overhead. Storm clouds were filling the sky, casting a shadow over the entire courtyard. Then another rumble, and raindrops pelted down. Joseph’s mouth fell open.

“Wow, looks like… someone summoned rain.”

A raindrop rolled off his tongue, then plopped onto his boot to join the receding layer of pumpkin juice. All around him, the fires were fading just as fast, almost as quickly as they had appeared. They were safe for now, at least. Just seriously drenched. It wasn’t possible to die of overwaterification, was it?

“What?” he called back to Eona, closing Astra’s teacup with a lid to keep the water out of her fur. She’d muttered something that sounded a whole lot like gibberish – maybe her secret lucky charm. Then a semi-transparent umbrella flashed into the air, and Joseph’s eyes lit up with realisation. His toes curled in his boots.

Of course, the umbrella spell. Why hadn’t he thought of that?

“Thanks Eona…” he said, turning away as words momentarily failed him. His neatly arranged feathers were now ruined, soaked, tangled like his mother’s hair after one of her super excessive showers. The pepper poppers had to be all soggy now. Joseph was a dripping mess. Without warning, that same strange urge rose up in him again, climbing up his throat, threatening to burst free in a roar of exasperation. The urge to do something, the urge to fix something.

He drew a breath. Slowly, his fingers wrapped around Astra’s teacup, as if trying to soak up as much reassurance as possible. Stay still. Avoid humiliation. That’s all he had to do.

Nothing happened at first. Then gradually, reluctantly, the force slunk back and settled. Joseph blinked. A beam spread across his face, despite the raindrops racing down his cheeks. He couldn’t explain it, but for once… for once it felt like he did something right.

“Someone will stop the rain,” he mused, shaking the water out of his feathers – away from Eona, of course. “We can… check on the butterflies afterwards. See if any are hurt. I’m sure there’s a way to help them.” He flashed Eona a wink. It felt oddly natural, with a flicker of confidence he couldn’t quite explain.

She deserved that much anyway. After all the fire and torrential downpour and almost-dying… it hardly seemed fair that she still managed to look like that.

Action: Giving Hazel the(offered) Revive Potion and being quite rude

Axel struggled to hold Hazel upright, when suddenly she levitated.... a spell no doubt, but Axel pulls her down slightly to allow hazel to drink the potion. Unfortunately, his spell didn't work, so he looked a bit like a fool. A pureblood failing a simple casting water spell. His ears burn with embarrassment.

Axel grumbled, "Carry her, don't, I don't care either way." He said rudely despite the kind offer of the older students. "Have at it, she's like a sack of potatoes." He somewhat gently pushes her towards the other boy that the older girl pointed towards. Then the guy says something with the word 'freak' in and Axel looks the guy up and down, judgementally. "Well... you certainly look....capable" He said in a tone which implied an insult but a veiled one.

He glanced down at Hazel. "Idiote, Pourquoi me faire venir pour tout ça… hein ?" He watched as she starts to panic. "Oi Hazel, behind you" His french accent coming through. Then it starts raining.... heavily. Making water drip down from his hair to his jaw before plopping off like a diving board. "Il pleut à l'intérieur?" He mutters to himself and anyone listening. The hiss of the fires being extinguished by the sudden inside storm, creates an unpleasant smell, and many drenched ball-goers.

Just typical, this is why he avoids any sort of social interaction. One because he just doesn't like people. Two, it often ends in something going wrong. And three, Axel isn't one to try and get along with people. Like his personality or lump it.

He runs a hand through his hair to slick it back, now as its soaked with water, rather than the unstyled mess it was before. Then some names are called out. Axel doesn't know why the are called out. Something about a king and queen?

He tunes them out and shoves his hands into his pockets. Looking quite calm in the midst of the chaos. Almost like he belonged where everything went wrong.

For once, it seemed Eun-ji wouldn’t need to get herself involved beyond handing out one of her potions. The young girl further away from them succeeded in casting the levitation charm and the unconscious blonde was safely moved away from the dying flames like a puppet on invisible strings. A little disoriented but safe, breathing and beginning to stir. The Ravenclaw didn’t feel the need to crowd her as she did so, which made it all the more harder to ignore her date’s rude behavior.

Despite taking and using the offered potion, the brunette couldn’t even muster a basic courtesy towards his older classmates. Even ignoring them would be preferable to his brooding grumblings. Eun-ji never cared much for gratitude anyway. Contrary to what many assumed, she didn’t like playing hero and she barely did anything this time. Helping afflicted was simply in her blood. She was spoon fed the duty the way other children were fed candies by their parents. “You certainly got a lot of attitude for someone who failed to do anything.” Eun-ji pointed out, in a tone that sounded as if she was merely commenting on a weather. She has been criticised and called lacking by her own family often enough to have no desire to do the same to others, but she was also raised to have manners. If the boy wanted to be bratty then why should she be polite?

Why do the girls I help always bring such dreadful dates? The witch couldn’t help but wonder as the rain started falling down on them. Was the “bad boy” aesthetic really that irresistible? Life already brought enough unwanted suffering free of charge, Eun-ji never understood the girls that chose to bring more of it upon themselves so willingly.

Still all things considered, the remark was hardy an insult from her side. She never wasted time feeling ashamed whenever she messed up a spell…though in fairness, she could barely recall failing one outside of her dueling days. She didn’t see why people made such big deal out of it unless it resulted in something dire. Magic was fickle and people even more so, which made failure an unavoidable part of life. That thought stayed with her even as she raised her wand towards the stormy sky. She didn't know why she hoped that particular spell wouldn't succeed. Fortune was hardly ever at her side during these events. “Meteolojinx recanto!” Somebody else would probably cast the spell as well but better too many than no one at all.

Beside her, she heard her cousin opt out for an umbrella charm…mostly for her sake no doubt. For once, the witch was secretly grateful. While she wasn’t vain, it was hardly unreasonable to be angry about spending all that time dressing up only to end up drenched before the night properly began. Just one dance in a dry garment. Was it really so much to ask? It was a second ball where she'd suffered the wrath of the water element and she still wasn't a fan. At least last time, she got drenched willingly to save people, this time it was just somebody else's stupid decision.

“You should take care of yourself first. You'll catch cold.” No longer interested in the young boy, Eun-ji addressed her cousin instead. The biggest crisis was averted so the nagging could continue. “If someone doesn't manage to stop it, we will all catch a cold.” Ye-jun retorted as a matter of fact. After saying his piece, he also seemed to be done talking to the younger student and ready to resume their usual back and forth.

Eun-ji only shrugged. She could conjure her own umbrella just fine but as usual, practicality won out. Rather than protecting herself instantly, her brain recognized the long-term solution as the best course of action. And maybe...just maybe, she instinctively knew Ye-jun would have her back so she could focus on stopping the root of the problem without any worries. “Yes, that would be rather unfortunate. I’d have to listen to Hana complain about the endless paperwork then.” She almost smiled as she said it. The Ravenclaw herself didn’t consider the internship difficult but the young rogue that roped her into it, seemed to enjoy complaining whenever the workload increased even slightly. Strangely enough, she did not find it annoying in the slightest...

Speaking of the Slytherin, Eun-ji couldn’t help but wonder if he would actually show up tonight. After all, his promise was one of the reasons, she agreed to come to the ball in the first place. Considering the current state of events, perhaps it’s better if he changed his mind. Such was the logical conclusion so why did it make her heart ache? It was hardly a big deal and yet... She was truly hopeless. “Ugh…stop mentioning the guy. It makes my head hurt.” Apparently, Ye-jun agreed.

The chaos slowly fizzled out as the students’ collective efforts finally managed to smother the fire with their frantic spell casting and good intentions. Had it not been for the bright idea of some of them to flood the place while doing so, Ye-jun might have actually been proud. Alas, it was not meant to be. “Lovely.” He commented in the tone of someone who had long moved past the disappointment and into a kind of quiet acceptance, before attempting to protect his cousin from the worst damage. “Pluvia Velo.” The young girl they wanted to help was saved in all ways it mattered so he didn’t rush to pick her up for now. He was even less eager after her date’s snarky behaviour.

“She’s conscious and probably looking for you now. It’s her decision not mine.” He dismissed the young wizard’s attitude without as much as batting an eye. Eun-ji already scolded him so why should he bother with anything but a simple answer. “Young lady, if you need me to carry you, just say the word.” He called out to the waking girl casually but not unkindly. The Beauxbatons student carried girls before when the situation demanded it. Not romantically and not always voluntarily. Some, he even came to regret later but he doubted this youngling would latch onto him afterwards like they did. She’d clearly rather her date helped her. Her very grumpy date, who was likely attending the same school as him, given the language switch. Ye-jun didn’t care. He wasn’t here looking for new friends. In fact, the Korean didn’t bother reacting to the French at all. There was nothing to react to anyway. Just a bunch of meaningless ramblings of an angsty teenager.

“You should take care of yourself first. You'll catch cold.” Right…of course there would be no thanks coming from his cousin. Though he supposed her concern for his health was, in a way, a sign of gratitude. Eun-ji had grown wary of obvious kindness ever since the Hunts wormed their way back into her life. Being too soft seemingly became a weakness of sorts, which is why Ye-jun wasn’t angry. It was not her fault, he understood that much. “If someone doesn't manage to stop it, we will all catch a cold.” He remarked instead, acknowledging her efforts to fix the mess. What he didn’t like however, was the answer that came following that statement.

Hana. Why did that name always have to come up? Ye-jun really wished he could be the supportive older cousin but he still couldn’t bring himself to. “Ugh…stop mentioning the guy. It makes my head hurt.” The complaint slipped out before he could stop it. To her credit, Eun-ji didn’t look offended by his reaction. He made his dislike for her crush clear to her from the very beginning and she accepted it with grace as she did most anything. He would be lying if he said it didn’t bother him. Didn’t her silence mean she agreed with him to a degree? Probably just a wishful thinking. That girl would never fall for someone she didn’t deem worthy. The Beauxbatons student could only hope one day, he’d get to see what she saw in Hanako Tone. It would certainly make his worry, his frustration, his headache and just life in general so much easier.

Whoops, he hadn't paid much attention to the competition, nor had he attended the showcase.

XXXBut of course, it wasn't a Hogwarts event without a disaster or two, right? It was the kind of situation where thoughts stopped being words and became frantic signals to the brain. The chandeliers plummeted from the sky as the venue went up in flames. Smoke was a very familiar scent to Akari, not only from last year's Spring Ball but from ordinary spells and candles and fireplaces. This, however, was nothing like the comforting warmth and light he knew. Just like last year, the place collapsed into chaos.

XXXAkari had ducked instinctively when the first chandelier came crashing down, but he exclaimed, "Someone should look into a fireproof enchantment for this entire campus!!" His voice might have cracked somewhere along the way. And then, through it all, rain came pouring from the clouds, summoned by one student's quick-- but not quite smart, in his opinion-- thinking. Better drenched than burning, I guess... "I am alright," he told Hikari sheepishly as the two of them stood there, the light rain pattering down. Well, until someone else caused the rain to intensify, which was a little less pleasant. "That was... fast." The flames had gone almost as quickly as they had appeared. With the attendees' combined efforts, the catastrophe had mostly been mended. The announcer on the white steps continued forth like nothing had happened before promptly leaving. Flowers and music burst forth in juxtaposition to the atmosphere's current state. Akari frowned, feeling ashamed that he had not done more to help.

XXX"Are you okay?" He inquired. Neither of them had gotten hurt, which was a relief. The cold rain soaked through his clothes, beginning to drag down his cape. Now, that would be pretty miserable, wouldn't it? He almost made a gesture as if to shield Hikari's head with his hand, but that seemed useless, so he took out his wand and cast the Umbrella Spell for them. Other students seemed to be doing so too. They hadn't even been here for long, and that had just happened??

Gliding on the dance floor, Sabrina nodded along to Ophelia's (@Ophelia Vanderbilt) answer. It was a slight nod to her muggle origin, or so Sabrina assumed, unaware of any magically made press-ons. In general, the mere inclusion of plastic seemed a little below the magical standard.

'Yeah, really pretty,' Sabrina agreed with the compliment payed to her unconvencional sleeves, her words carrying a perhaps surprising sarcastic tone, as well as obvious pride, 'but they were hell to put on. Thanks Merlin I had Nari, my best friend – who is also a Gryff, by the way – to help me tie them on or else I'd be stuck in a jumble of red ribbons until now,' her contradicting feelings regarding her garments come to light, explaining her previous sarcastic approach. The work sure was stunning, but at a near cost of her sanity. 'My cousin, Benny, made it and send it to me. I got a dress for the autumn ball too, not that I wanted that one, or this one, for the matter. I mean, they are very pretty and I love to wear them but they always feel like a bit of a death sentance, you know? Receiving them means I then have to attend the ball, which is sometimes, well - anyway, the autumn ball dress. It was mermaid themed, lots of pearls, blues and whites, flowy. Really pretty. But I didn't wear it - or, well, I mean I did but not to the ball –' she went on for perhaps a bit longer than she meant to, lowering her gaze in slight emberassment and disappointment in herself. She was doing so well keeping the nevereneding string of words at bay! Why did they always slip out like that?

Collecting herself with a longer exhale, she shifted the conversation in a different direction, 'Wow, I didn't even notice your shoes, they are so elaborate! You really do think of every detail, huh?' her eyes met the other girl's again, her mouth stretched into a wide smile once more, 'I am a Ravenclaw, second year.' With the fade of music, their movements slowed too, until they stood still. With a yet another curtsey, Sabrina stepped away from the red-clad Gryff, finishing their dance but remaining at her side, 'You know, you are not as bad of a dancer as you may think yourself to be. After all, you didn't crush any of my toes. I'd go as far as to claim that the dance was lovely, so, thank you.'

Like most of the children present, the raven's frame shifted to face the gazaboo and the well dressed announcer. Her hands, ready to clap, immediately shot for the wand hidden away in her pocket when the chandeliers shattered from the impact. As the heavens fell and collided with the ground, all hell fell lose, fire erupting all around. Sabrina lost her partner in the chaos that smudged their world into a frantic blur, her body running on autopilot as she dashed to the nearest flames, the ones circling the gazebo, attempting to snub them out with the use of magic. In the chorus of swishing wands, it was hard to tell if her own spell-work aided in the fire's quick demise, but since the result remained the same, the small girl didn't care.

Finding herself in a new crowd, pumped with adrenaline, her head whipped around to adress her peers standing nearby (@Julia Evans and @Maximilianus Kenneally Vidler), 'Rowena's grace, I can't believe that work-' THUNDER

Another element replaced the bygone fire, a heavy pelt of rain coming down onto the ball attendees. With a squeal of both surprise and joy, Sabrina forgot about her half-finished sentence, her arms shooting up, welcoming the shower with excitement, 'Oh wow,' she whispered, taking off her hat. Eyes closed, she let the rain drum on her shoulders, seep into her hair and the fabric of her dress, making it grow heavy and slack. She 'wooed' and clapped loudly when the royals were announced, shouting something akin to, 'Fly high, ravenclaw!'

XXXXXXThe blonde girl's reply surprised her. Milica had expected a comment, any comment, showing dismay at her rude introduction, but none came. Instead, she was complimented. Not really knowing how to reply to a compliment, she simply shot the girl a weird look. A wordless reply conveying confusion.

Erast's awkward reply confused her even more. They hadn't seemed like 'just friends' to her. Not that it was any of her business. Her next course of action was decided swiftly: she would be ignoring these people and getting herself out of this strange, awkward situation.

Just as she wanted to walk away, a new girl walked up to them. Her extravagant dress was colored light purple, a color she disliked, just as any other light color. She recognized the girl. Milica had seen her around, but she'd never spoken to her before. This was probably one of Cecilia's friends. If there was one negative aspect to her roommate, this was it. She was simply too friendly to most people. Furthermore, she liked to cause trouble. All of this was fine, as long as Milica wouldn't be caught up in it. Now however, to Milica's dismay, the chipper girl introduced herself. Thanks Cecilia, she thought sarcastically.

Accompanied by a judging stare, the dhampir decided to show good manners by replying to the girl whom she learned was called Rosaline. "I'm Milica. As you seemingly already knew.", she said, remembering Rosaline called her by name earlier. Rosaline asked for a person called Fred. She didn't really know who Fred was, and she honestly didn't care either. All she was hoping for at that point was that her savior, Cecilia Merrick, showed up.

Instead of Cecilia, Leo Noxley walked up to them. She knew him vaguely, having done a potions assignment together with him before. He was okay. Seemed capable. She didn't mind him. Rather than saying hello, she acknowledged him with a simple nod. "Leo."

Somehow, Milica had gotten herself into an awkward situation, surrounded by people she barely knew and could probably barely stand. Thankfully, she was saved by a fire. Literally. By some means, a fire had broken out near the entrance, where they just so happened to be standing. While around her, most students were casting Extinguo in attempt to put out the fire, Cecilia flew in together with a boy. The dhampir looked even more confused than before, if that was possible. Why did her roommate decide to enter the ball by flight? What was wrong with her?

As soon as they landed, the boy accompanying her roommate spoke up. He immediately made an attempt to tell a boring joke, to turn the situation into a less alarming one. Irritating, but expected from one of Cecilia's friends. She ignored him.

The students' attempts to cease the fire had looked futile, but before she knew it, the fire was out. And Milica was soaking wet. As if the girl wasn't already confused, now she felt like she was trapped in some sort of ultra-realistic fever dream. The feeling of her dress sticking to her body felt disgusting, and the courtyard became muddy. Looking down, she realised her shoes could use a proper cleaning after today.

"Cecilia. You're late." The statement was blunt. Milica would usually show more kindness towards her roommate, but her mood had turned incredibly sour. Not only was she surrounded by people she barely knew, of which she already knew some would be annoying, she was now also drenched. In all honestly, she wanted to go back to her room and calm herself down. Sit in the dark, perhaps read a book. Anything to avoid this misery. Not even Cecilia could cheer her up now.

Wonderland Waltz 2026 Spring Ball
@Novalie Moon
Harvey did his very best to be patient with Novalie as she began to repeat the gobbledegook with an enthusiasm that threatened to end his existence, but patience was not one of his virtues. "Kurwa?" The boy fortunately repeated the word quietly as he had no idea of its meaning. He was at least cautious enough of her to never repeat it again. Harvey couldn't go around sounding mad now could he? There was a hint of a grin though when Nova nailed the pronunciation. It was nice to hear his language spoken by another, especially a pretty girl like her... What! Where in Merlin's beard did a thought like that come from!? A hint of flush kissed his cheeks and he raised in front of his face and cleared his throat. Goodness!

"Yes, you say it well." Harvey offered a rare compliment and fortunately for him, Novalie would not go on about her thoughts on goblins, gnomes and leprechauns. That would have led to another red faced argument. "I'm not sure many people see things your way, I'm afraid." He shouldn't have been so skeptical of her as she was respecting his thoughts and opinions, but surely this girl was slightly unhinged. Dressing in a muggle mascot uniform would not be in the boy's future. He was no entertainer. It was foolish to play dress up like that. Right? There was a bit a mad hint of joy glistening in Nova's eye. Judge you all you'd like, but she knew how to have a good time and considering Harvey's current state of misery, perhaps he could learn a thing or two.

Harvey's apology seemed to spark a hint of confusion in the girl. Had she not heard of the racial tension between goblins and humans? They had literally warred with each other on and off for centuries now. How was she passing History of Magic?! But Harvey blinked it away. As different as they may be to each other it was still nice to hear words of acceptance and tolerance.

Whatever had come over Harvey and driven him to take Novalie's hand in a dance could only be a momentary lapse of sanity. The moment their hands touched her eyes would almost glow neon green as a smile literally stretched across her entire face! He would have pulled away and rub, but before he could even take another breath he had been dragged out to the dance floor. Harvey's eyes went wide and he looked around to see if anyone important was about to witness this freak show. Try as he might to protest there was nothing the boy could do as he was about to be thrown around the floor like a rag doll. Merlin have mercy!!

The scene around them began to twirl into chaos. There was smoke, rain and maniacal laughter spilling out of Novalie as she spun Harvey around in circles. "Woah, woah, woah!" Try as he might the boy was now apart of this mad dance whether he like it or not. His little legs tried to keep balance, his short arms flailed around. The rather expensive dress robe was now drenched and billowing all around him. From afar it may have even looked choreographed in the way that an expressive dance could sometimes. A chaotic mess in prefect time with the beat. Who knew Nova's crazy ass actually had some rhythm!

When the song came to an end, Harvey would be left huffing and puffing. A look of bewilderment splashed across his face. Did that just happen? Finally his gaze would find Nova's. "That was..." Horrible? Exciting? Embarrassing? Thrilling? Harvey was feeling many things. Part of him felt violated, while the other felt the slight buzz of fun. "That was something." He settled on that before looking for an out. "Im going...over there." That was all the boy could muster before drifting away.

Emiline gripped Kaitlyn's hand tightly as the Slytherin Prefect moves slightly in front of her. Protective. Safe. Without even thinking, she moved closer to the other girl's back. The fire was short-lived, as a large room full of magical witches and wizards learning magic, made sure that water spells were cast. Many were rather enthusiastic and made a heavy rain fall from the ceiling. Before long, Emiline's stylised hairdo was dampened down and no longer bouncy curls and more like rat tails dipped into conditioner. So much for the hours spent in front of her mirror with her curling iron, getting an arm cramp and almost burning her neck many times. But 'beauty is pain' as her older sister once said to her.

Despite the chaos, one of the professors announced the Spring Royalty. To be frank, she hadn't heard of DEALLA PRINCE and ALY SALINGER, the senior winners or CASSIE JIANG and LILIYA STARKOVA for the junior winners. Somehow not knowing them made her confused as she was quite a talkative person and must have talked to at least one of them.... right?! Right?

Still being close to Kait, she subtly sniffed to get a feel of her scent. It was something she read about, if the scent of the person you are dating is inviting, then there is a higher chance of staying together. Kait's scent was calming, grounding in a way. A subtle scent that reminded her of the seaside and the plants around. Kait seemed to always smell of something floral, maybe it was because the girl liked herbology or it was her perfume? Emiline knew she liked it. There was always something outdoorsy about her date, something that seemed fresh.

Then Kait tries to cast a spell to make the ongoing downpour less of a problem, a really good idea especially as many girls are in expensive, thick ballgowns.
