Wrong Turn

The classes for the day had ended, and Ophelia was more than happy to go back to the common room and lie down on her bed. It was Friday, and technically she did have time to do her homework until Monday, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to wait until Saturday and Sunday; she could do them tonight, so that she'd have time for hanging out with her friends the next two days.
Ophelia was walking back to the common room with Flame and Fred. It wasn't unusual for her to go around Hogwarts with her friends, since she hated to walk alone, and she always hung out with different people.
They were talking about their day, like usual, and being more invested in their conversation than in the way to the common room. Taking the wrong turn or going the wrong way has happened to Ophelia a few times on her first few days at Hogwarts -so much that she could swear she needed a map for the place-, and she wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.
It did.
"Guys...," she said, as she realized the familiar walls and armors that were everywhere in Hogwarts didn't feel familiar anymore. She had never even seen the portraits hanging on the walls. Meanwhile, she had been used to seeing the moving pictures, but she didn't fully believe she could ask them the way to the common room, either.
She finally stopped in her tracks and looked back. "Have you ever been here?" Ophelia not having been to this part of the castle didn't mean that Flame and Fred had never been here. She stopped, though, because she didn't want them to go too far and not find the way back.
She normally wouldn't mind, but exploring Hogwarts now meant that her homework would have to wait until tomorrow; she probably would do it then anyway, even though she had initially wanted to finish it tonight. However, she still worried about it.

It had been an ordinary week. Between classes of Charms, Potions, Herbology, and the other subjects in a first-year’s Hogwarts schedule, Frederick spent his days doing homework, having fun with friends in the common room, and practicing Quidditch. With Friday finally arriving and the last class of the day coming to an end, Frederick felt excited for the weekend and he wanted to start enjoying it right away.
Eager to leave the classroom and make his way to the common room, he gathered his things, slung his bag over his shoulders, and joined two of his housemates, Ophelia and Flame, on the way there. From the way the conversation flowed, it seemed like everyone was happy that the days of rest had finally arrived. As always, Frederick chatted nonstop as he walked beside the girls, sharing bits about his day and drifting into other stories that kept popping up the more he got caught up in the conversation.
The boy kept pace with his companions, holding onto the straps of his bag, and only stopped, already a few steps ahead of Ophelia, when he heard her call out to them. As if jolted back to reality upon hearing her say, “Have you ever been here?”, Buckley suddenly became aware of his surroundings. They were in some unfamiliar corridor. “Uh-oh,” Fred said, turning on his heels to look around, taking in tapestries and paintings he was certain he had never seen before.
Distracted by their conversation, Fred and his friends had gotten lost, but that didn’t worry him. Even in the most ordinary week at Hogwarts, that was bound to happen. Being a first-year and still unfamiliar with the castle and its moving staircases, getting lost was practically routine. Realizing this, the boy let out a short laugh. “I don’t think I know this corridor,” he said, glancing at the girls as he tried to retrace their steps. “Do you think we should go back or keep going?” he asked calmly, already starting to think about what would be the best way for them to find their way back to the common room.

Flame had been walking along the corridors with two of her fellow Gryffindor's friends, Ophelia and Fred, after classes. She had a pile of homework to do but was saving it for tomorrow morning when no one else was up because they would all be sleeping in. Flame, Ophelia and Fred were all talking about classes and trading stories about how the day had been going.
Suddenly Ophelia stopped in the middle of their conversation. She was looking at the surrounding halls. When she asked if they recognized where they were Flame pulled up a blank. She had often been up past curfew exploring the halls but she didn't think she had ever been in this part of the school before.
Apparently Fred didn't recognize it either because he asked if they should turn back or keep going. Flame turned to her friends, a spark of excitement dancing in her eyes. She smiled. "I think we should keep going!" She told the two. "If none of us had ever been here it could be a fun adventure!" Flame hoped they agreed. She wanted to explore this area so badly! And if they left...She wasn't sure she could find her way back. She watched her friends closely, hoping they agreed.

—date. [ 13/03/2026 ]————word count. [ 239 ]————tag. [ @Flame Afterglow @Frederick Buckley ]————outfit— That was not what Ophelia wanted to hear from Fred and Flame. She would have liked to explore the place, which was no lie, but she didn't want to get caught after curfew if they still hadn't found their way back to the dorm. She hesitantly looked at the way they'd come from, and back at the way ahead of them. It would be fun to explore the castle some more; they might never find their way here again. She noticed how Flame's voice sounded excited when she suggested to keep going. I prefer nights anyway. Adding to that, I'm with these two; if we get caught, we get caught together. It could be fun. Ophelia wasn't sure if she was reluctant to start with this experience or not. She didn't mind walking through the new hallway, per se; she just didn't want to be late to the common room and get detention. Another thing was that she couldn't really decide on which side of her mind to listen to, which made things even more complex for her. This, not being able to decide what to choose out of two things that will affect you, was not unusual for her. Usually, she told her friends, parents, or brother to choose for her, but that was when she was still in the Muggle world. "Sure, we can keep going," she shrugged and looked at Fred. The difference between the group’s reactions was clear. While Flame seemed excited to explore a new corridor of the castle, Ophelia merely shrugged, looking uncertain. With two opinions already given, it was up to Frederick to offer the third and final one, which, apparently, would be the deciding vote. “Let’s keep going,” Buckley concluded quickly, still in a calm tone. “We’ll find the common room before curfew. Besides, look on the bright side, next time we won’t get lost around here again, right?” He tried to sound confident, even without having an actual plan for how they would accomplish what he had just said.
After nodding toward the two girls, Fred resumed walking, making a point of taking another look around, trying to memorize some important detail of this unfamiliar corridor. He spotted a painting further ahead and pointed toward it, choosing it as a landmark to remember the path. “Look, I think that group of wizards playing cards is a pretty good reference for us to keep in mind.” One of the wizards in the painting, noticing Fred approaching, glared irritably at the boy and waved his hand of cards toward the trio as though trying to shoo them away. “Off with you! We’re in the middle of an important match, don’t distract me!” the wizard snapped.
Buckley laughed at the man’s reaction and kept moving forward, occasionally glancing around, then toward Ophelia and Flame, before focusing back on the path ahead. “If only they gave us a map when we started first year at Hogwarts, I think we’d get lost a lot less,” he said. He paused for a moment, imagining what a map of the school might look like and whether it would truly show every path. Some older students had told stories about secret passages and hidden wings tucked within the stone walls, mysteries only a few people knew about. “But then again, what would be the fun in that?” Fred added a few seconds later, his tone lighthearted.
After leading the way for a while, turning one corner to the right and another to the left, still surrounded by endless corridors, Frederick noticed two doors farther ahead, passageways that might finally lead the three of them back onto the right path. “Do we go through the door on the right or the one on the left?” He slowed his pace, almost coming to a stop, so they could decide which path to take next.

Flame looked down the two corridors that were infront of them. They were relatively identical both with read carpets, candles lining th walls, some armor stands and long hallways. She started debating in her head. Splitting up was not an option. Cause that would mean one person had to go by themsleves and no one knew what or where that one person, who went by themselves would end up or if they would be okay. She debated the right side, people always generally go right so it wasn't a bad idea. Flame looked over at the left. People generally went right so why not go left? they could always retrace their steps if they had too. Flame turned to Fredrick and Ophelia.
"So," She says "I think we should go left!" Flame waited for a reaction before continuing. "I mean, if you guys want to. I was thinking because all people normally go right maybe we can go left?" Flame wondered which corridor the others wanted to go down. After all, the corridors were identical. So it really only depended on which way they were going. Know one would know what was at the end of the hallways till they went.

—date. [ 13/03/2026 ]————word count. [ 210 ]————tag. [ @Flame Afterglow @Frederick Buckley ]————outfit— Ophelia halted for a moment when they passed the portrait of the wizards playing cards and attempted to look at the cards one of them had in his hand. The said wizard apparently felt someone staring at them, looked behind him and at Ophelia, and, glaring at her, hid his cards with his body. Ophelia scoffed and continued walking with the two others. This time, all three stopped walking when two doors appeared in front of them, "I don't mind going left," Lia said as she walked toward the left door and tried the handle, "It's open," she stated while opening the door. The corridor looked just like any other Hogwarts corridor, and Ophelia wondered if they should decorate and design them differently so that they varied and didn't look as if someone was going in a circle, even if they weren't. "Ya coming?" She looked back at her two fellow Gryffindors as they walked along the corridor. It was, yet again, filled with armors and moving portraits, one of which saw the three first years and immediately started shouting and nagging about the younger students. Ophelia didn't spare another glance at him and continued looking around, "Can the armors understand us?" she asked, looking closely at the shiny metal armors. ——— [ OOC ] Sorryyyy for the late response!
