There were about two more hours of sunlight left to burn today, and Sabrina planned to use every second of them. Since starting her research on magical markings, the girl had adapted a rather solitary, densely packed schedule. Most of her free time was now spend in the library, burried under an absurd amount of books. The rest in her dorm room, studying another batch of borrowed manuscripts. One of those in hands, she now found herself in the transitional stage, that is continuing with her reading while strudding through the corridors.

The whole view obsucring aspent of reading and walking hadn't bothered the girl in a while now, her almost year lenght practice and quick feet meaning she wieved through the crowds of robes clad teens with ease. Or at least until this evening. This evening, whilst reading a fascinatingly uninteresting passage on muggle inking history, Sabrina's nose slammed into the yellowed pages at full speed when met with something solid in it's track. The impact send her falling backwards, both her and her book landing on the stone ground with a loud thud.

"Ouch - watch where you're going, would ya?!" she scolded the older student, that seemed to be the obsticle that had blocked her way, as if their collision was only her fault. A ridiculous thought that made total sense to the small raven's exhausted mind. After all, the older girl had conciously chosen to be in that exact spot, right? Her decision to stand in the middle of a busy corridor, "corridors are meant for walking, not standing,"she muttered the remainder of her bitter thought process, rubbing her already aching temples with the heels of her palms.

Summer was fast approaching, and Ebony Vetra could not help but feel apprehensive. Next year was the time for OWLs, in which she had recently found herself frequenting in her nightmares in dread for the coming year, as well as the next Quidditch season, which on the contrary, often weaved itself into her sweetest dreams.

Summer was also the time for family visits. Absent-mindedness plagued her as her ruminations drifted from Hogwarts to home. The girl wondered how her mother was doing; were her plants well tenured? The crazy experiments the woman liked to perform sometimes almost made Ebony feel the slightest bit of pity for the forestry, though she couldn’t find herself caring too much. The feelings of the verdure were the least of her worries. At least they kept her mother entertained. She recalled in memory, with a lingering aftertaste of a smile, the hazy feelings of cheekiness that the younger version of her had felt when she was able to recede into her room to do whatever she had liked as her mother engrossed herself in Herbology. That wasn’t to say that Ebony did not appreciate the accompaniment of the woman — no, far from it. She largely preferred it to the almost solitary life she had led as a child before her mother had ceased her alchemy job. It was simply that her mother didn’t take too well to the… rather strange shenanigans that the child had the tendency to do in her room.

Lost in thought. Absent-minded. So absent-minded, in fact, that she had forgotten where exactly she was. Was she… oh, was this the Corridor? Briefly awaking from her dreary-eyed daydream, she observed her surroundings to see herself encircled by crowds of bustling students and found herself standing still amidst them. The wisest course of action would probably be to get a move on before somebody decided to jinx her.

The girl was in no rush, and so she decided to lethargically drag herself. She only made a couple meters of progress, however, before her ruminations returned, drifting her back into a dream-like trance. She still trudged along, albeit slowly, but simply with no awareness of what was occurring around her. She found her musings returning back to the subject of Quidditch, yet again. The upcoming summer Quidditch matches —

A sharp pain came from her backside as something rammed into her from behind, with the thud that followed jolting her back into the present. What in the bloody — the brunette whipped around to its source to find a younger girl with shoulder-lengthed hair lying on the ground, a book sprawled open beside her. It appeared that she had been reading it before slamming herself into Ebony. Once upon a time, Ebony would have lashed out at the girl, perhaps stuck in a mean jab or two, but the time had passed for those unkind actions. Surely she would be the “bigger” person — literally — this time, and ask if the younger eagle was ok. Her fall was sure to bring a fair bit of pain, after all. This mentality held until the girl on the floor spoke.

“Ouch - watch where you're going, would ya?! Corridors are meant for walking, not standing.”

The younger student’s voice sounded at an annoyingly high timbre that only served to irritate the brunette. Oh, so Ebony was the one at fault? How so, exactly? All previous thoughts of kindness were immediately thrown out the closest window, never to be seen again. There was almost an urge to punch her, now, or perhaps cast a little jinx.

“Excuse me?” she retorted, glaring haughtily at the girl, “you should watch where you’re going! Maybe if your nose wasn’t buried in that book of yours, you wouldn’t be on the floor right now.” The brunette couldn’t deny that she was slightly at fault for delving so deep within her ruminations in the middle of the hallway — not that her pride would allow her to admit it — but come on, anybody with an ounce of common sense would see that it was more sensible for the younger girl to take blame. Had she walked more conscientiously in the first place, Ebony’s positioning would not have mattered in the slightest.

“Oh, and you might want to do something about that voice of yours, by the way,” she added as an afterthought as the younger girl rubbed her temples. It was spiteful of her, she knew, but the girl’s attitude justified a snarky comment.

Truly looking at the one she just went off on, Sabrina saw a face she did not recognize framed by brunette streaks of long hair. If not burden with the current situation, Sabrina might've perceived the girl as beautiful, a picture of grace, even. But said image had not yet have time to form when said graceful creature shattered it by opening her mouth.

'Oh, you're excused,' Sabrina returned bitterly. Although quick to form and keep grudges, it's been a while since she's had such an instantly hateful interaction. But to be fair, it has been a while since she had any interaction outside class. There was no time to linger on her drift from the social circles, the heat of a forming fight bringing the witch's mind back to present. Reaching for her book, she quickly stood up, chin defiantly high and brows furrowed.

The joy and hassle of arguing with another raven was that their arguments often stood on solid ground and were harder to shoot down. But with the power of sleep deprivation and pent up frustration, Sabrina managed to recover after just a scoff, 'Maybe if you followed your own advice, you wouldn't have to listen to my voice right now. And what's so wrong with it anyway? Or is it just that you can't comprehend someone calling you out on your,' crap,' mistakes.'

Despite her dismissal of it, the mean comment did register to the younger girl. She was far from above other's opinions on her, in fact often morphing her self-image around them, and so it did inevitably sting. She'll learn just how much when replaying the moment in the comfort of her bed that night, but for now it only fueled her rage towards the arrogant raven.

There it was again — that voice. Ebony knew it was unreasonable to impose such unnecessary hate upon it, but the sound waves that emanated from the girl's nasal voice just struck her ears from the wrong angle, and very irritatingly so. She wished the girl would just stop talking and leave. Most of the younger girl's talk — something about following advice — was filtered out; the older Ravenclaw had entered yet another typical mid-conversation trance-like state.

Until – "Or is it just that you can't comprehend someone calling you out on your mistakes?"

Bullseye. Her visage would remain still and stoic, brows slightly furrowed, but within her she burned. She burned with the might of an incendio tria, for the girl had unknowingly shot an arrow upon something hidden somewhere deep within the alcoves of her never-ending heart. Ebony Vetra was a girl who stayed away from people on any occasion possible. One would assume that she was simply anti-social, that she despised any form of social interaction. Such was partly true, but there was… something more. Something hidden, something one would not see upon merely grazing her surface. She appeared not to care. She appeared not to give a bloody damn about what other people thought, she appeared — she put on the pretense that she didn’t care for social interaction, when in truth, she was scared. The brunette was petrified of what her peers thought of her such that she deliberated upon every interaction she had, every individual she decided to approach. She was afraid of judgment and criticisms and getting “called out”, as the girl had exclaimed oh so brashly. It was a facade — the stoicism, the smile-less, tear-less face — all farce and theatrics. The girl hid so comfortably behind her mighty curtain of cynicism that she didn’t dare explore further for fear of judgement. And somehow, this younger, annoyingly high-pitched raven had read her like the book she was holding, though unknowingly.

And hell, Ebony was livid alright. Though of course, her visage remained void of emotion, her gestures composed, the only hint of anger revealed through the amber glint of her slightly narrowed eyes. Though the girl's chin was tilted upward arrogantly — perhaps in an attempt to appear more threatening — Ebony remained towering over her younger peer, only naturally. She was willing to bet a decent amount of galleons that she could punch the shorter girl into oblivion. There it was again, that urge to inflict violence that came so easily nowadays, for how had the girl so effortlessly rendered her doubtful upon opening that mouth of hers? "I'd be careful about what you say," she enunciated dangerously, voice laced with something akin to venom, malice, "you hold your chin so high, but… there are things that could be done to you. If I were you, I'd just shut up completely. You say too much, and what you say makes no sense."

She knew it was absurd, non-rational; she knew it was an illogical, fallacious ad hominem that only served to exacerbate tensions; she knew it was lousy for her to threaten a younger student like that. The Ravenclaw was however, ironically given her house, not thinking very rationally. Deep within her mind existed a consciousness that told her how absurd she was being, how the girl was not completely in the wrong, but the brunette pushed it away further into the abyss of her countless spiralling ruminations. She was too vexed, too provoked — too high up — to back down now.

All else blurred into the already hard to register background as exhaustion red-laced eyes zeroed in on the brunette ahead – because to Sabrina, that was all the world had become for this very moment. Not a crowded corridor, not a book which knowledge ultimately lead nowhere. There were no irritating friends – or lack thereof – or complicated feelings, all consumed by the anger – no, not anger, tension – tension so dense it should soon spark lightning between the two prideful ravens. Trapped and completaly in it, the younger girl found strange stability in the verbal fight. Ironic, perhaps a little sad, but true.

The feeling was so strong, so true and overwhelming that it became grounding. An anchor in a sea of confusion.

Although she had no way of knowing just how much her previous comment struck the cord, the witch reveled in the loaded silence that followed. Despite there being no evidence of it in the beautiful brunette's face, a mean smile tugged at the corners of Sabrina's lips because she might've actually struck a nerve. She wasn't of those that enjoyed inflicting pain, never was, and yet, she couldn't help but get some sick satisfaction from this. Which was not right. In fact, it was very, very wrong – something the girl would've recognized and maybe even named if in a better state. But as she was, she barely gave the thought space to form before discarding it. She could rethink her choices later. Not that she planned on doing so, anyway.

Her grin fell and brows furrowed when her opponent countered with her own unknowingly fatal blow. Although the threats of violence were thinly veiled and low, they weren't what caused her to stumble back, almost tripping over her own slow foot – something she soon cursed herself for; she was never good at concealing her emotions. But the jab directed at her speech did it. Her speaking manner – rambly, often pointless and excessive – was something she was fine with and barely noticed until that year's spring, when she suddenly decided it was a problem and a cause for embarrasment. It has been a while since said insecurity found it's way to the forefront of her mind; it has been a while since she's truly spoken to anyone, which rendered the comment even more painful.

'So unsure of your arguments you have to resort to threats of violence? How truly very noble and high of you, really,' she spat, fast and quiet, 'No wonder you can't understand what I am saying – you have barely enough mental capacity to form your own thoughts, let alone understand someone else's,' not necessarily true, but something the fuming girl could easily make herself believe enough to say with conviction.

'I have no time to spare on someone like you,' she would go on. Bitter, dismissive, mocking. Numb fingers slipped between the pages of her book once more, opening it at random. Her eyes slid down towards it and without bothering to read a single word, Sabrina began to walk again, not resisting the urge to bump her shoulder into the girl still somewhat in her way as she did.

If not stopped, Sabrina would leave the thread (but please, do feel free to drag her back in, both figuratively and literally).
