Lily had received another letter from Nova. She had already written to her sister, Isabelle, about Nova's rude behavior and made it clear she wouldn't tolerate it anymore. She really hoped Nova had understood, even though Lily knew it was a long shot. But having inherited a little bit of optimism from her grandmother, she couldn't help but hope.

She had now received the letter, and Lily hoped its content wouldn't be as rotten as before. She slowly opened the letter, somewhere in her brain still expecting it wouldn't be good at all. For a moment, she considered throwing it away. But a tiny part of her heart still hoped Nova had really apologized.

Taking a deep breath, she opened the letter. Inside it read:
Lily,
So... I see that you have snitched about me. This letter might be an apology letter for your sister, but she doesn't control me. She can never deny the fact that you aren't good enough to be OUR sisters.
Lily had only read the letter up to here, and then folded it up and threw it across the floor. She didn't need to care about what Nova thought or what she might be saying. All she knew was that she wasn't going to let anybody else throw her down anymore.

Although she wanted to be determined enough not to care, some part of her was still hurt by Nova's words. What had she ever done wrong to Nova? She had never been rude to Nova, nor had she ever excluded Nova, so why was Nova doing that?

She was just sitting down, thinking about this, when she heard a loud noise, making her flinch a little. What was it? She craned her neck to see what was going on outside.

Briar walked into the courtyard, her hair swaying due to the light breeze. Today….wasn’t so nice. Well, days usually weren’t, but today just felt different. She had been sent a howler through her parents again, about the usual ‘Why did you get detention I’m very disappointed in you.’ Honestly, she had learned to zone it all out by now. She would usually just start composing something random in her mind or start humming, it really helped a lot.
But today, they mentioned how Rose was always better than her at everything. Yeah so? She knew, she told herself that constantly, enough to make it hurt. It was the cut that always bleeds for her. Yes, the Conan Gray one.
She didn’t know why it stung so much, she was usually someone who could shrug off hate in a second, it didn’t mean a thing to her. Yet being compared with her ‘other half’ as they called her just didn’t seem right. She was her own person, why couldn’t anyone ever see that? Yes, she was imperfect. So? Isn’t everyone? It’s surprising how much four words, “You’re not good enough”, can hurt more than a thousand punches.
And the crazy part was, she had no one to talk to about all this, even Rose was compared the very same way due to something or the other, so they were on the sane page there. She used to look down at family dinners, whenever someone used to remark about one being better at something than the other.
She was deep in thought about this when she reached one corner of the courtyard, she was seemingly walking around in circles till now.
She then came out of her trance, and looked around. She had walked close to a girl…wait no, not just any girl, her cousin, Lily, seemingly upset about something. She wasn’t…the usual cheerful person she usually was today. Well, Briar wasn’t either.
She sat down next to her and put an arm around her.
Hey….Lils, is everything good?”

Lily had been looking around for that sudden noise when suddenly someone slid up to her and put their hand around her. She flinched at the sudden contact and then looked at the person. Thank goodness it was only her cousin, Briar. "Girl, a little warning next time would be better? Also, what are you even doing here? How did you even find me anyway?"

And then she looked at her, really looked at her. There was a bit of sadness in her eyes as if something had really hurt her. She did not seem to be the usual teasing herself and looked as if she would cry at any moment, though knowing her, she wouldn't cry in front of people and pretend as if she was alright even if she wasn't.

"Yeah, well, I am fine, a bit disappointed, but fine still. What about you? It looks like something is really troubling you. Did anyone say anything to you?"

Judging by her still sad eyes, Lily assumed someone had said something to her. And since Briar wasn't one of the people who would get saddened by any random person's comments, Lily thought that the twins might have had a small fight.

"Are you sure you are alright? Doesn't seem that to me... If you want to talk, I am here."

"A little warning? Where's the surprise element in that then? Please Lily, you're my cousin, raise your standards! Kidding..
I don't know, I guess I was just...walking? And saw you? It's not like this school has 8 billion people, and I do think I have the capability to spot you in a crowd, to be honest.
"
She suddenly became aware of the teardrop that was going to fall from her eye. She turned away and wiped it off; she could NOT seem vulnerable. Even to someone as close as her cousin, she was the person who fixed issues and made people have a smile on their face, she couldn't stand the opposite happening. She was afraid she might get judged...like she was judged for everything. It wasn't even something she could shrug off and move on with. The standards society had set were far too much, not everyone could be pretty, perfect, and courteous at the same time. Yet it would take eons for the world to understand.
"Now my head is full of poison and my heart is full of doubts...."
"I'm fine, don't worry. There's definitely something that's annoying you, and we don't keep secrets here, do we? Come on, spill!"
She moved closer to her, mentally thinking of people that would annoy her lovely cousin, the ray of sunshine surprisingly had a lot more enemies than Briar. It was ALWAYS the cheerful ones.
"I told you, I'M FINE! I don't need to talk, no one needs to hear me, I'M A DISGRACE TO THIS WORLD, OK?!?"
Woah. That part came off a bit strong.
