Secret Blossom Ball
Crystal shook her head when Mildred suggested moving areas, before realizing that she wouldn't be able to see her. "No, bad idea. I might be able to move around our immediate area, and I might have a general idea of how to get to the exit, there is no way that we could make it all the way back without hurting ourselves. It is too easy to get turned around, and there isn't anything else I can reference to reorient myself. Our best bet is trying to get everybody here to use lumos, get as much of the place visible as possible. Besides, the pitch might be safer than the way back we don't know yet," she reasoned with Mildred. She was thinking over all the options in her mind, and trying to get out with no visibility might be possible, but unlikely. Too risky while leading another person. She didn't know lumos, but she knew for a fact some others around them did. So her brain suplied her with an idea, though she might look like a bit of an idiot.Interacting with @Mildred Wilson
Crystal took a deep breath, hoping that her voice will project itself well, and yelled as loud as she could "Anybody who knows lumos use it! There are people here who don't know how to cast it! We need to get as much visibility as possible, and if enough people use lumos we might be able to get a decent area where people can see things! Trying to leave in the dark could get you seriously injured!" She knew that one from experience. Not super fun to trip from a dip in the ground and break an arm when you can't see anything. She listened to where Mildred is and grabbed her hand "Stay with me, once someone near us uses lumos we can try and make our way to their direction," she told her, trying to sound as confident as possible. Right now they both need to stay calm, that way if something even worse happens they can react quickly. She hoped that people would listen to her, they all needed to be able to see.
Action: Trying to get everybody's attention for them to use lumos. Staying with Mildred.

Selim listened to his companion as he turned away from the girl and to him, his words were interrupted though, by his redheaded dormmate colliding with Lestrange. Reacting on instinct, Selim slid out of his seat and came to his feet, moving up just behind Lestrange and impulsively sliding into a ready pose, the first stance of his fighting style.
Erin Ryan appeared, how could he forget the girl his dormmate had been dating under the guise of another boy. Selim never understood why Jack insisted on continuing that little charade, and he knew that it would all collapse like a tower of cards when the girl found out that the fax was, indeed, not who she thought he was.
Of course, it seemed his dormmate dismissed such consequences, and going by the conversation between Erin Ryan and Thomas Lestrange, that decision had come to bite Burnett in the ass.
Before he had really grasped the situation, Erin Ryan flew at his companion, who had dodged. More words were traded between the pair, but Selim's focus had shifted over to the chaos in the middle of the ball. The boy that had called him 'not-quite-a-grease-stain', had tackled the target, Vlad. It was a useless attack, and was rebutted by a harsh punch from the leather-clad male. Soon after, grease stain boy ended up vomiting slugs, and still tried to talk.
Selim decided that grease stain boy was an idiot.
He focused his attention back on the chaos he was actually involved in, just in time to see Jack dart forward, Erin try to punch Lestrange again, and then... the lights went out.
Selim froze, eyes wide as everything fell into darkness. A hiss esaped his mouth, this was not good, the enemies his paranoia had told him were lurking in the shadows now had a chance to strike. (A part of him told him that there may be no enemies, he ignored that part, there were always enemies.)
His training kicked in, and he remembered that he had a partner in the ball, and he needed to try and keep him from harm... he was the mastermind behind the plan, the plan he had dragged him into, the plan that Selim as a mission that needed to be completed. He couldn't let him get harmed, by hidden enemies or the girl that seemed insistent on punching his face in.
Darting forward, he attempted to grab onto Lestrange and hoist him back behind him, gripping it strongly if he succeded so he wouldn't end up falling on his arse. His other arm tossed the bento box he had been holding onto into the vague direction of the table they had been sitting at, before shifting up in a one-handed defensive pose.
If he was successful in grabbing Lestrange, he would slowly try and shuffle back with his companion. His eyes were useless now, as useless as the wand that hung at his waist, so instead he focused on his other senses.
He remembered when one of his sensei back at the compound had taught him how to fight with a blindfold. He also remembered the many bruises he got from those training sessions. Eventually, he did catch on, learned how to dodge and fight blind... though he still ended up not being as good at fighting blind as he was with sight.
Along with that, screams had begun to erupt among the party-goers as the candles went out. This basically rendered his sense of hearing null.
Eyes narrowing in mild annoyance, Selim took off the top section of his kimono, tossing it aside in the same direction as he had thrown his bento. He was left with the bottom half of his outfit and the body armor that had been hiding under his layers of clothing.
Swiftly, he pulled his knives out of their arm holsters, relying on his muscle memory to avoid nicking his fingers with the blades, and bared them in front of himself. He hoped no one would run themselves into their blades, especially not Jack. If that did happen though, well, no matter, he had bigger things to worry about.
With that, he went back to trying to focus on his other senses. By the light of the stars, he could see varying levels of shadows, some faintly seeming to move around, it was unsettling, not seeing clearly, so he mostly ignored the sights around him.
Finally, he spoke, essentially being his first words since entering the Quidditch Pitch. "Lestrange, what do we do now?" He asked, quietly, so that only his companion would hear his words clearly.
Selim wasn't the one with the plan, wasn't the one making the calls, wasn't the leader.
He was merely a weapon, and he was waiting for his orders.

Ana smiled gentility at her companions as she tried to think of a suitable explanation. "Nothing very interesting, " she finally replied vaguely. She was reasonably confident that it had in fact been Gem Stuart that she had laid out, but if it wasn't, she wasn't going to run around talking about it. Anyway, she couldn't exactly think of anything close to the truth that she could say that would make her behavior seem normal, so she wasn't going to bother. Bloody hell, she loved this illegal ball. Other than the likes of Aurelia being a nosy uppity turtle, there really wasn't any sort of authority figure. Or, maybe there was and Ana was just completely ignoring them. In any event, it was nice. Added to the overall fairy tale aesthetic of the event.
She glanced back over at Gem and saw Wren winding up to take a swing at him and chuckled slightly. She'd only met the younger Gryffindor a handful of times, but she was quite fond of her. Unfortunately, the girl's punch didn't hit and then Wren herself was hit by a curse from Aurelia. That was most unfortunate, and Ana considered going over to help her out when she heard shouting on the dance floor. Of course, it was Rafa. It was always Rafa...
She was rather put out that her jo had been to babysit some boring (although possibly life-threatening) flowers while Rafa was having all the fun. However, these thoughts were swiftly purged from her mind when her friend was slugged in the face and then began vomiting slugs. Served him right for not telling her anything. Glancing back over at Wren, she noted with great satisfaction that Gem was now skulking away and vomiting slugs as he did so. Poor Wren was still on the ground, but now Ana assumed that whatever upperclassman(Victor) had cast the Slug Vomiting charm on Gem was more than capable of removing the body binding curse, so she turned her attention back at Rafael.
Good Lord, she looked away for five seconds and now he was held by the person(Vladimir) who had punched him, and it looked as though the older boy was winding up to hit him again. Despite her irritation at Rafael, she wasn't about to let that happen. Glancing at the table, she noted that the flowers were still there and she considered flinging them at Rafa's attacker. She decided against it, but noticed something peculiar and rather concerning.
A single flower was the same color it had been when she had left the table, while the rest were changing. Now, she couldn't be completely certain since the flowers had been passed around and she hadn't made note of the exact flower that had drawn her blood, but a terrible idea came to mind nearly instantly. What if that was the one that her finger had struck?! Her blood ran cold and she felt the blood rush from her face. She was brave to be sure, some would even say fearless, but Anastasia was not(despite what some might say) a stupid person. Quite the opposite, she was actually quite intelligent, her straight O's proved that. She mind raced with possibilities of what could potentially happen. No, she wasn't going to think like that.
Focusing back in on Rafael and his trainwreck of a fight, she noted that her mini panic attack had taken quite a bit of time and the poor Quidditch captain was in dire need of assistance. She reached under her long skirt and drew her wand. However, part of the skirt snagged on either her shoe or possibly the dagger secured at her thigh and she heard a terrible ripping sound. That was a pity, she rather liked this gown. No matter, she could fix it or get herself a new one. "Flipendo!" she said firmly, flicking her wand at Vlad and standing. It was a risk - casting a curse at a dance floor full of people, but the girl certainly trusted her skill with magic far more than she trusted her throwing arm or her ability to sprint all the way there in a matter of seconds while wearing heels and a ballgown. As the curse left her lips, the light disappeared and she was left in pitch black. That was unfortunate, and she had no idea if her curse had hit anyone or anything, or even worked, much less hit her target.
She heard a symphony of screams and rolled her eyes. If anyone had reason to scream, it was her. The roses combined with the sudden blackout was definitely not a sign that there was some entity there to bring her coffee and couture fashion. "You have got to be bloody kidding me," Ana exclaimed, blindly trying to step away from the table. She heard another ripping sound and huffed. Sooner rather than later, he was going to need to finish the job that her heels had started since she couldn't very well bumble about in the dark in a torn ballgown. Her poor dress...
As she contemplated her unfortunate dress's fate, she noticed a strange buzzing noise. That was definitely bad. "Oh, for fuck's sake, everyone stop screaming!" she shouted, in an attempt to better hear the sound. Honestly, if someone was that dramatic, they really didn't belong at Hogwarts.
She considered casting Lumos but decided against it since it would monopolize her wand and she wanted to be able to use it against whatever was going next. Anyway, hopefully, some other people would do it and she would be able to see. She decided once she got her bearings again, be it when other people provided light or simply when her eyes adjusted a bit better to the darkness, she was going to make her way to her broom and try to figure out what on Earth was going on.

Secret Blossom Ball

Yes, there it was. Just as Bridget had started to entertain the thought that maybe this ball would actually be normal, just as the knot in her stomach had started to loosen, the Blossom Ball lived up to its reputation. Punches thrown. Spells fired, at this point mostly of the sort that made you vomit slugs.
And then, of course, came the visibility problem. Last time it was smoke, fires, and the blinding light of spells. This time they were plunged into darkness as nearly every candle went out. What had caused that? The Slytherin could feel her pulse quickening while her mind raced through all the terrible things the darkness could hide. More spiders sent to curse them? Half-giants? Some other threat? Screams rang out so blood-chilling she very nearly found it necessary to scream too. But she didn't. She had to keep her head. She had to somehow figure out what was going on.
An immediately recognizable downside of the darkness was how it made it nearly impossible to do the first thing that came to mind--make sure her friends, her allies, were safe. She could barely make out the forms of Vladimir and Opeila, much less Thora or anyone else. And there was something else... in the lapse between the screams, her ears were filled with a buzzing noise. Could she just be imagining it, or was the sound really there? What even made that sort of sound, other than certain bugs?
It didn't look like anyone was trying to evacuate with any of the brooms. As much as she wanted people to clear out, specifically the younger students who didn't have the spell knowledge to defend themselves, she wasn't about to tell them to leave with no clear sign that they were in danger. Sure, she had a terrible feeling about the darkness and the noise, but it could just be her own fear that was making her overreact. Besides, her strengths and tendencies had never involved taking charge. Someone louder could do that. No, Bridget was an investigator, a fighter, who's first instinct was to think through things rather than order everyone around her.
The first logical thing that came to mind was to cast Lumos, to see what they were up against instead of groping around. But plenty of other students were already doing that, and too much light would probably only result with the other end of the visibility-problems spectrum. Her other option, it seemed, would be to take advantage of the Nimbus 1700 still clutched in hand. Pulling out her wand and mounting her broom, she shot up into the night sky. The rush of cool air felt good, helping her to calm down, to focus. This was familiar, holding onto her broom with one hand and holding a weapon of sorts in the other. Maybe it wasn't a Beater's bat, but her wand was perhaps even more useful. Following the direction of the buzzing, Bridget tried to get a view of the incoming thing, threat or otherwise. While her eyesight was far from superhuman, hopefully it would be good enough to make out whatever was coming.

Aurelia was a third-year and clearly adept with spell casting, after all, she was the proud leader of the spells wands and games club and it was expected for such a person like herself. The spell would hit Wren and lock her in place like a video being paused. More unfortunately for the boy, Aurelia could not intervene when another boy, keen on avenging Wren, cast the slug vomiting curse at Gem. Aurelia was meant to settle it all in a calm and peaceful manner but achieving peace was proving to be a feat.abilities

The lights went off and the sheer darkness of the night enveloped the area. Aurelia had no blindvision and sudden drastic change of light but a strain to her eyes. The monster hunter could not quite make up of what was around her, sure she at least knew that Gem, the petrified girl and the boy was l close by but she could not see them.
Then she heard a spell yelled in such close proximity which Aurelia had no doubt was meant fo her. Instinctively it was for her to make an attempt to dodge, so she did. However, karma seemed to be at her heels almost literally. Without her sight, Aurelia was clumsy. The gigantic bodice of lace was right beside her on the ground as she made a manoeuvre to move out of the spell's trajectory. Her long dagger-like heel finding home in the poor girl's abdomen as she tripped on the still body.
Due to the terrible misplacement of her footing, Aurelia was flung forwards. With all her body weight and physics in play, her forehead collided hard against the table, a loud thud --- a sound likely to resonate within a 20 feet radius--- was produced from the impact. Aurelia crumpled to the ground, black and darkness devouring her consciousness. It was a wild accident.
Trip on petrified Wren's body (stabbing stepping on her with heel in the process) and hitting head hard on the table whilst dodging Victor's spell -- subsequently losing consciousness and entering a 2-month coma.
Ooc: this is just a great way to explain my absence. Moderators, feel free to god mod aurelia's body if necessary, just don't ruin her pretty face. Everyone else, feel free to react/interact with her even though my baby is unconscious.

@Anastasia BeckettAction: Cast LumosDale knew he was bad at spells, he still cringed every time the memory of the last ball. Dale just sighed when all of the nights went off and the entire ball was enveloped in darkness, he knew something like this would happen, something horrible always happens at balls... why did he think it would be any different this time. He swore to himself that he would never go to another ball at Hogwarts ever again.
Before Dale could do or say anything, he heard and vaguely saw Ana, Dale always thought that she had a bit of temper... but he wasn't aware she knew such... colorful language. He saw her cast a spell in the direction of the boy from before (Rafa), he considered for a second to help her out, but he remembered that the last time he cast magic it backfired on him, instead, he stood up pulled out his wand and walked over and stood next to Ana, he hoped his presence would calm her down a little> He bumped her shoulder with his, "Hey Relax a little." Dale knew he was taking a risk telling her to calm down, he didn't want her casting incedio on him... but he needed her to think and not just cast spells willy nilly. Dale help up his wand flicked it to cast Lumos, he hoped others would follow his example.

Secret Blossom Ball
The Lioness beamed at the sight of her close friend approaching her, she happily waved back at him as well, "Hey, Alan! So good to see you finally made it here!", unlike Griseldis still wearing a dark robe around her covering her dress, Alan didn't hide what he was wearing, he was certainly well-dressed for this secret ball. This time it looked a bit more casual, in a good way of course and she really liked the dark blue coat he wore and the neat tie that was knotted in a Windsor style. He sheepishly apologized for being a bit late, she simply shook her head and looked at him with a smile. Griseldis noticed how the Ravenclaw stared at her with curious eyes, she knew he must be wondering what dress she was wearing underneath but she will reveal it to him once they enter the ball together. Then Alan made a playful joke that almost caused her to roll her eyes, "Don't worry about it, I only just arrived here for a few minutes ago so I really didn't wait that long. But if you really want to make it up to me...", she gently took his right hand and continued, "I think a nice dance will be...", but before she could finish the last word. A boy just came out from the ball and started to puke out a bunch of slimy creatures that looked like slugs. "Huh?", That kind of got her attention, was there such a dish with slugs on the menu in the secret ball?Interacting with @Alan Noble @Lark Flaer @Allister-Jameson MacAllister
It certainly didn't look appetizing...wait...isn't there a spell that can make people vomit slugs?
Griseldis starting to have a bad feeling about this but tried to suppress it, "Come on, Alan. Let's get in and see inside what the secret ball looks like." When they entered the lights, in front of her were a bright and lively sight, however, the moment of brightness didn't last long. The candles around them suddenly started to flicker and within three seconds everything around them turned into darkness, all she could hear was people's gasps of surprise, and a lot of them shouting "Lumos". "You got to be kidding me...", For the love of Merlin! Just when she thought that this Secret Ball would finally be something different but it seemed no matter all the ball events were no doubt cursed in Hogwarts. Funny how her father and uncle never really had a bad experience at a ball in Hogwarts when they were students before.
Good thing, she was still holding Alan's hand. Squeezing his hand a bit tightly, she let out a disappointing sign. Griseldis knew she was always a very simple-minded person but she wasn't thoughtless. She knew due to this ball, her Ravenclaw friend would never want to join another ball but not really a problem. Griseldis had decided after this one, she would never join another ball in Hogwarts again. She wouldn't want her friends to get hurt and would rather have them being safe and sound, she would even go so far to stop her friends to join another ball and would attempt to warn them not to risk themselves. Right now, she could only put her trust to her other Martial Artist club members that they would be fine to take control of this chaos. Hopefully, Aaron would be ok as well, for now, she could only focus on her own friend, "Alan, can you cast Lumos too so we can at least have a little light for ourselves to see things a bit in the dark, please.", Griseldis asked and squeezed his hand gently. But then she heard something unnatural, a strange buzzing noise...why there was a buzzing noise in here? Griseldis's curiosity got the better out of her because she feared the worst that it could be dangerous bee-like magical creatures her uncle who was a Magizoologist once told her about it. She hoped it wasn't Doxies. While still pulling Alan with her, she tried to rely on her hearing following the origin of the buzzing noise. Walking in the dark, you were bound to bump into someone and in fact, she did accidentally bumped into someone, causing the person to let out a soft and panicking voice, " A...AJ-". The familiar name made Griseldis stopped going forward.
AJ? And this voice.....
"Lark? Is that you? And AJ! You there too? It's me, Gris! Alan is here with me too! Are you guys ok?", Without wasting any time, Griseldis placed her hand on the person's shoulder and she believed they must be Ruthie's best friend, Lark. If anything, Griseldis would be glad that at least she and Alan were able to encounter friends they knew in this darkness. "Don't worry, me and Alan won't let anything happen to you guys, we're in this together.", She knew in this kind of situation, anyone would be scared so she tried her best to calm them down with her words of confidence. Griseldis let go of Alan's hand and took out her wand from her robe pocket. Ready to cast her own Lumos for them to have more light around them, "LUMOS!"

Useless.
Ruka felt utterly useless as he watched his spell whirring past Rafael to fizzle out somewhere in the night air without hitting a target at all. The other Gryffindor's movement had been too quick and Ruka's own focus not strong enough, so instead of immobilising Rafa to keep him still and out of trouble, there was nothing to do but watch as a different spell hit him much at the same time as Vladimir's fist.
Wincing to himself as he watched the impact, Ruka didn't immediately notice the lights flickering, putting it down to just a trick of the eye. With all those candles around and this massive commotion in the middle of the dance floor, it would have been surprising not to see some flickering here and there. However, only a few short moments later it was clear that it hadn't been an illusion or just some standard candle flickering; The lights were going out, eerily timed, like all of the candles had just simultaneously reached the last of their capacity. In the distance he could make out a couple of tiny flames strong enough to resist, but they did nothing to illuminate the dark pitch.
Ruka's senses were on edge as he blinked a few times, steadying his breathing to something deep and calm. There was no point in panicking as some of the people around him were starting to do; The death of the candle light could have had multiple reasons, didn't necessarily mean there was anything dangerous underway, and even if there was, there was no point in senseless yelling and uncoordinated running around.
Flash's words about helping out Rafa were almost lost to him, as was the moment in which Flash was separating himself to let out a strange bird call that had to have some kind of meaning Ruka wasn't aware of.
"What?" he asked, feeling a bit of irritation shooting through him at being given a task he had absolutely no interest in. Rafa seemed to be struggling with Vlad much more than with the slugs he was puking up, and hadn't Ruka already tried to keep the hot headed Gryffindor out of harm's way? How was he the one responsible for taking care of the consequences of someone else's actions now? Especially someone who had tried to drown him just about a couple of weeks ago?
He wanted to turn and tell Flash all of that, but by then it seemed like the Slytherin had already moved elsewhere, leaving him standing by himself in the middle of the mess of the dance floor.
Fantastic.
A few seconds of trying to adjust his eyes to the darkness later, Ruka was finally able to make out some silhouettes around him, illuminated by nothing but the stars above them. It was nowhere near enough to really make out specific people, or truly see much further than the hand in front of his face, but it was enough for Ruka to make a split second decision.
Wand still in hand, he turned in the direction he knew he had come from when approaching Flash a while ago, and he started a confident jog towards his goal. Bumping into people was unavoidable but he didn't stop to apologise to anybody on his way. He could hear Willow calling out for Flash somewhere near by, but he decided to ignore it; There was no use in approaching her right now. She'd made the stupid decision of stealing someone's bag without thinking about what to do with it once she got a hold of it, and now she would have to deal with it.
Life on the street had taught Ruka everything he knew about survival, and he was perfectly aware that tying yourself to the weakest link was a sure-fire way to go down.
So without letting himself be distracted by the familiar and unfamiliar voices around him, Ruka managed to reach the table he had occupied with Willow when they had first entered the ball, and he immediately threw himself to his knees to crawl underneath it.
It took him a moment of uselessly patting around the ground, but soon enough his fingers found the large sticks he had left there earlier on, and he pulled them out to lie in front of him. "Okay, don't let me down," he muttered pleadingly as he pointed his wand at the tip of one of the make-shift torches. He had done this millions of times before (and only a really horrible dice role would stop him from achieving it this time) but never quite in a situation like this, surrounded by complete darkness and fearing for whatever kind of terrors the night would bring with it, so he could only hope that his focus wouldn't waver too much. "Incendio," he murmured, lifting the stick he was casting at up just slightly so that, in case the spell worked, the fire wouldn't catch on the ground beneath.

"Your fine. If I had to wear heels I would probably be just as clumsy." he said chuckling slightly.
Percival looked in between Hanako and Kara. The two seemed fairly close, and he couldn't help but feel a little jealous. He glanced towards Hanako as the other walked away. "Oh I'm kinda hungry too." he said taking a step in Hanako's direction.
Though he was quickly thwarted as Kara began to keep up a conversation with them. 'It's fine I bet he'll be back soon.'
Percival let out a small gasp as the lights shut down quickly. "Hanako!" he called instantly calling for his closest friend.

"I don't know."he said clearly confused and worried. 'I hope Hanako is ok.' he thought.
"Hanako?" he called trying to find the other boy.

Secret Blossom Ball
Althea was confused as to why Ginevra left in such a panicked rush, but didn't think much of it. Hufflepuffs tend to run to different places or people at random timings, she learnt over the months of being in the yellow house.
Althea's earlier tease was responded to with a small whack to the head. She narrowed her eyes at Hanako. “ Jealous, Valeden~? I didn’t peg you a clingy type," Hanako joked back, causing Althea to roll her eyes at the boy. She couldn't help the light blush that burned her cheeks because of his words, though.
"Mind you, Tone, I lived without you for a whole month," Althea retorted, "And no, I am not jealous." She quickly finished the handshake with Kara and walked back to where Percival was. She found it amusing, watching Hanako and Kara's interaction earlier. It was rather cute, but also a bit uncomfortable. She finally understood why her father told her to avoid becoming the third wheel at school.
"Sorry for the clumsy entrance. I am pretty clumsy, and wearing heels was probably a bad idea," Kara apologised, which Althea responded with a small smile.
"Well this has been a pleasant introduction!" Hanako suddenly said, clapping his hands together with his signature grin, "But alas, I must leave a while. The food table seemed to be calling me for quite a while now. Have fun chatting it out, you all~” Then, the boy left, leaving her with Percival and Kara.
Althea resisted the urge to run to the food table herself, as Kara yelled after Hanako to bring something back for her. The only reason why she attended this party was for the free food, but, it seems like she would have to wait before she could leave for said food.
"Well, that seemed weird. He just slipped away suddenly...," Kara said. "Tone does not seem like one to run to a food table, does he?" Althea asked Kara and Percival, seeing that they knew Hanako fairly well. Knowing Hanako herself, he might have ran back to the comforts of his room or hung up a hammock in the trees.
Suddenly, all the light vanished from the pitch, darkness falling upon all of them. Althea heard murmuring and gasps amongst the crowd around her as she remained still to avoid bumping into anyone.
She heard Percival shouting Hanako's name, which received no answer in return. "He is probably fine, Rainwood. Besides, you have to guard his girlfriend," Althea whispered to the figure who she assumed was Percival, hoping that the joke would ease his concerns.
Althea then whipped out her wand and whispered the incanation for the Lumos spell, but she was met with nothing but failure. Cursing herself for not practicing the spell more thoroughly, she sighed in defeat and tried to squint and find Kara and Percival. She squinted her eyes and managed to make out two figures in the dark. Kara asked if she or Percival knew what was going on.
"I don't, but I think this is the reason why the professors cancelled the first ball," Althea murmured to her acquaintances, regret rippling through her for attending this ball.
