The Black Lake Closed

I walked around quietly, not wanting to arise a soul from their peaceful slumber. I only wanted o go for a short walk. The brisk night air blew around me in a sort of calming sense. Dew drops lay on pointy leaves. These leaves I knew were quite poisonous indeed. I didn’t dare touch them, as much as their reddish-yellow colors were intriguing. I was careful to not step on anything that would disturb anyone. Twigs snapped beneath my feet, but quiet enough that only means I could hear.

When I had finally reached my destination, I felt relieved. I looked upon a glimmering lake, whose waters reflected the black canopy above. Or so I thought. The lakes was black, not because it was reflecting, it was actually black.

I, who has never come here or heard of the lake, did not know of this. Still thinking this lake was normal, I slid off my shoes and socks. The cold, wet grass covered the bottoms of my feet. Picking up my shoes and socks, I walked over to the lake.

When I had reached the lake, I sat right next to it and placed my pale feet in. My feet became cold. Not a regular type of cold, though. It felt very unnatural, but again, I did not take any notice. I smiled as I sat there. My hands slowly became wet and marked by the grass. Suddenly, I heard the yell and shriek of a distant voice behind me.

Ella hurriedly walked down the Grand Staircase, looking behind her every now and then to make sure no one was following her. She was headed down to the campgrounds, more specifically, the lake with a book clutched in one hand.

After minutes of walking, Ella was finally out of castle. "Ah fresh air" Ella said to herself as she took in a big, deep breath of the cold air. She stood there for a while, admiring the view, and continued on with her walk some minutes later.

"Lumos" Ella said as she took out her wand. The wand gave out a bright, white light. It wasn't dark, but it was dark enough for Ella. She had always thought that there was something that lurked in the dark. She never knew what, but she knew that it wasn't monsters or ghosts or anything, perhaps... dark spirits.

Twigs and leaves that had fallen off trees crunched beneath Ella's feet every time she took a step. She'd wondered if this was a bad idea, going out for a walk in the evening. She'd originally wanted to turn around, but up ahead, she saw the lake, glimmering in the dark, but there was dark figure in the water. Her heart dropped and her her eyes widened with fear. She walked a bit closer to the lake and squinted her eyes for a better look. She couldn't believe it, it was the things she feared the most that lurked it the dark. Ella let out a high pitched shrieked that must've awoken the whole castle. "Who's there?!" Ella pointed her wand at the figure, ready to cast a spell.

Nell jumped up quickly, falling backwards into the bitter cold water. Her teeth chattered as she placed her hands on the muddy ground and pulled herself out.

She took her flashlight from the ground and held it up in front of her. The bright light shone int the figure’s face. Now that she could see the figure better, she lowered her wand.

The girl had long, curly blonde hair. She couldn't quite tell what color her eyes were since it was quite dark. The girl had a Ravenclaw tie, and looked to be in the same year as Nell. A first year.

Nell performed a spell on herself, drying her so she wasn't wet anymore. She knew first years shouldn't know the spell, but Nell might have read ahead...

The girl looked at her oddly when she finished the spell. Nell quietly ignored it and slid on her shoes and socks.

"Sorry for, um, disturbing, er, you," she said quickly and quietly. Nell was shy so she wanted to make this encounter as quick as possible. However, Nell was raised to be polite. On that thought she stuck her hand out and introduced herself.

"Nell. Nell Zoldak," she said quite quickly in a small voice.

OOC NOTE: I changed it from saying "I" to "she"

"Lumos" the dark figure whispered. Ella's eyebrows furrowed as the bright white light revealed a girl on the ground with long dark brown hair with striking blue eyes. The girl stood up and whispered something that Ella thought was a drying spell, a spell that first-years shouldn't know yet.

"a-a-are you okay?" Ella walked over to the girl, who slid her socks and shoes on. She felt bad because she thought that she might've startled the girl when she screamed and that she fell into the water when she did.

"Sorry for, um, disturbing, er, you," The girl replied with a hurried tone. "No! no! you weren't at all! It should be me who disturbed you... my apologies! It's just- you startled me, No one really comes down here..." Ella apologised. The girl stuck her hand out and introduced herself as "Nell Zoldak"
"Oh- um... Nice to meet you, Nell! I'm Ella" Ella took Nell's hand and introduced herself quite shyly.

"Hey, um- you don't have to leave..." Ella said for Nell looked like she was getting ready to go back inside the castle. "You can stay" Ella added.

"Nice to meet you too," she responded.

When Ella said she could stay, Nell became weary. "A-are you sure?" Nell asked shyly. She didn't want to bother the girl in the slightest.

Nell finished tying her white shoelace and stood upright.

The night around her was bitter and windy. Nell usually came out at this time and weather because . . . well . . . no one was usually out here.

The trees blew about behind her. Before Ella could respond to her question, however, a hooded black figure that seemed to have no face appeared in front of her, and behind Ella.

Nell motioned to the figure in front of her so Ella would know. That was no student, not a professor. That was a dementor indeed.

She held up her wand in front of her for security, yet she did not know any spell. There was one spell, but she had no idea what in the world it could be. In fear, she backed farther away from the dementor.

“I - I don’t know any spell,” she muttered to the girl beside her. Nell was scared. No doubt about it. Suddenly the dementor came closer, Nell and Ella ducked, and that was the last thing she remembered.
