Lauren held her breath as the Sorting Hat was put onto her head. She could hear a whisper in her brain, something asking her... if she wanted to be a Ravenclaw.
NO! she screamed fiercely in her mind. I DON'T WANNA BE A RAVENCLAW LIKE MY FAMILY! THEY'RE SO MEAN TO ME, I HATE THEM! NOT RAVENCLAW! ANYTHING BUT RAVENCLAW! I NEED REVENGE! AND I DON'T WANT TO FACE MY SIBLINGS TAUNTING ME EVERY SINGLE DAY! I WON'T EVEN BE ABLE TO STUDY IN PEACE!
Ah, a fierce mind. And a desire for revenge, even though it's not the traditional, direct kind... doubt... embrace of darkness... loathing... hate... you'd better be... in... SLYTHERIN!
As she headed towards the Slytherin table, the cheers filling her mind, Lauren really didn't know what to think. She was glad that she wasn't sorted into Ravenclaw, but Slytherin... it was the house her family despised most, the house which she was made clear to not go to. Her aunt Loratrix was formerly a Slytherin and a Parselmouth, just like Lauren, and her family had hated her so much that she got disowned by her own parents.
And then aunt Loratrix asked Lauren to forgive the Vanes family.
Much as she loved her aunt, Lauren sometimes really didn't know what she was thinking. She wished that her aunt simply wasn't so different from her usual self at times. She was the one who taught Lauren that it was necessary to stand up to her family and other people who were mean to her! And in platform nine and three quarters, Aunt Loratrix had requested for Lauren to forgive the Vanes family for what they did to her. Even after they disowned her.
Rolling her eyes, Lauren glanced over to the Ravenclaw table, where her siblings were sitting. They seemed to be indifferent to which house Lauren was sorted into. Coming to think of it, it was for the best. She didn't want her siblings to know and tell her parents. Who knew what they might do to her.
Just to make sure, Lauren walked over to the Ravenclaw table, but her attention was diverted with she caught sight of the most beautiful girl she had ever seen. And she wasn't just beautiful. There was something more to her -- that she seemed to be emotionally connected to Lauren, to know how she felt in that very moment. Stopping dead in her tracks, Lauren stared at awe at the girl.
Stop it! she told herself. You'll make her uncomfortable.
Making a mental note to herself that she would come back and try to start a conversation with the girl after the dinner, Lauren walked back to the Slytherin Table.
But as she sat down, thoughts flooded her brain. Her self-crictism was the loudest, drowning out everything else.
Why do you like her so much? She's a Ravenclaw!
Lauren had been unaware of that. For the first time in her life, she wasn't hostile to a Ravenclaw.
I'll just act like I'm more superior than her if we actually do manage to have a conversation, she thought to herself. But of course, she forgot all about her plan to act superior the moment dinner ended and she found herself walking back to the Ravenclaw table.

Dinner was finished. And Lauren was walking towards the Ravenclaw table again.
