They left Gringotts with a sack full of galleons, sickles and knuts. The wizard escorting them separated from them for a moment to get a copy of a news paper called the Daily Prophet. Josh was very excited to get all of his school supplies, and even more excited to find out more about the wizarding world from his textbooks."What are we going to buy first?" he asked his parents eagerly. His mother and father both looked at the same shopping list that had arrived with his acceptance letter to Hogwarts."Maybe we should first stop to buy your wand." He imagined waving his wand around as soon as he bought it, and seeing what types of cool things he could do with it."Alright, where do we get a wand?" The wizard returned at that moment."Ah, so we'll be getting a wand first? We'll need to go to Ollivanders for that." They proceeded down the alley a little further until they reached a little shop. Inside the shops window display, was a wand laid upon a faded purple cushion. The shop looked very run-down, and Josh wondered to himself if their wands were just as bad as their storefront."Are you sure this is the right place?" he asked the wizard."Well of course, this is Ollivanders. Best wandmakers in the world, people from all over the globe travel here just to get an Ollivander wand. There process can take a while though..." he responded as he checked his watch anxiously. They entered the shop, which was just as small on the inside. It looked very dusty and untidy, there were maybe hundreds or even thousands of small boxes pilled on shelves up to the ceiling. The wizard sat down in a chair on the side of the store, and started reading his copy of the Daily Prophet he had bought. His parents also sat down on two chairs in the corner of the shop, seemingly taking in the scruffy appearance. A shopkeeper came from the back of the store and stood behind the counter."Good afternoon." he spoke as he looked at Josh curiously."A young wizard looking to buy his very first wand? You have come to the right place, Mr..?" "Ericson - Josh Ericson sir." Josh examined the shopkeeper as carefully as he was examining him back."Well Mr Ericson, we should be able to find the right wand for you today. It might be a lengthy process, but we have a wand for every witch or wizard here at Ollivanders. First I'll need to take measurements of your wand arm and what-not." He came from behind the counter, and started measuring Josh carefully. Josh was very confused as to why this was all necessary, all he wanted was to buy his wand and leave the mysterious shop, and didn't think that measuring him would help him take a wand and leave.Sorry, but, I just wanted a wand if you have one left." The shopkeeper did not respond immediately, but continued measuring. Finally, after he was done, he walked back behind the counter and started shuffling through the many small boxes stacked up on top of one another.Of course Mr Ericson, we have a wand here for you, but you cannot rush the process of finding the perfect match." The shopkeeper occasionally took out a box, muttered to himself so that nobody else could hear him, then stuffed the box back in it's place."Can't I Just have one? It seems like you have hundreds in stock..." The shopkeeper yet again took out a box, muttered to himself, but this time walked back to the counter holding the box."Oh I'm afraid it's not that simple Mr Ericson. You see, no single wand that we sell here is the same, and therefore not every wand is a good match for a witch or wizard. You can't just take the first wand you see off the shelf, oh no... The wand chooses the wizard, not the other way around, and today we will find the wand that chooses you." Normally this would have confused Josh, but after seeing goblins running a bank, nothing seemed strange to him anymore. The shopkeeper took the wand out of the box, and handed it to Josh."Try this one Mr Ericson, give it a good wave." Josh waved the wand in his right hand, but before he could see what happened, the shopkeeper snatched the wand and placed it back in the box."That's not right, but no problem. It's very rare to have the perfect match on the first try." The shopkeeper placed the wand back in it's box, and back on the shelf, and started searching through the many boxes once again. He took out another box, and returned to the counter. He took the wand out of the box, and handed it to Josh."Maybe this one? Give it a wave." Josh waved the wand in his right arm as he had done with the previous one, and again the shopkeeper grabbed it away quickly before anything happened."No no, not that either. No worries, let's try again." This process continued for 8 other wands, until finally, on the 11th try, the shopkeeper handed Josh a wand as he did the ten previous times, but this time he appeared intrigued."Try this one Mr Ericson. It's rather unique for a wand we sell here. 24.5 cm, cherry wood and snallygaster heartstring core. Give it a nice wave it" Josh obeyed as he did the previous times, and waved the wand in a sophisticated manner. This time, a shimmer of yellow light shot from his wand, and illuminated the entire shop."We have a match, bravo! A very unique match. This wand particularly seeks a wizard who will use it on dangerous quests, and is gifted at defensive magic. One might call it an auror's wand, and for whatever reason it has chosen you... A young ambitious, clever, and kind-hearted mind. We cannot question the art of wandlore , so I congratulate you on your new wand Mr Ericson." Finally, Josh had a wizards most important tool, the item he wanted to get the most, his very own wand. He held the wand proudly as his parents paid the shopkeeper, and they left the store with the escort wizard, with his wand still held tightly in his hand.
