The courtyard was surprisingly quiet on the sunny afternoon. Classes had just finished leaving students to do as they please for the weekend until the dreaded Monday came again. There were no clouds in the sky. A few birds here and there along with a small breeze running through the open area.

Lizzie was laid on the edge of the fountain with her left arm dangling into the flowing water. It was a way she used when she got to hot or a bit stressed out. She had her eyes closed while humming gods knows what. The blonde girl did like to just make random tunes and then never use them ever again.

She sighed and sat up suddenly. There was nothing to do. Lizzie thought at the start of the year it would actually be exciting every single day but boy she was wrong. It got so boring o quickly because everything became natural to the students.

The Ravenclaw swung her legs so her back was facing the fountain. It was getting even hotter by the minute and Lizzie had started to slightly sweat. Normally, that would be when she went inside to the Castle but she stayed knowing something good or bad would be happening soon.

She lent against on of the pillars and watched as few students walked in and out of the Castle. Many of whom she did not know. Some first-years she had never actually talked to. There was hardly anyone she had said even a few words to.

Lizzie closed her eyes and pulled on of her legs up to her chest. It was probably going to be a very un-productive day for her. That didn't matter as long as someone came and said hello the the very short girl. She smiled slightly while going back to humming her weird tunes.

Leonard was not quite tense, so much as bored.

His backup plan wasn’t quite as detailed as he had hoped. He would later berate himself accordingly, but for now, it was time to fill in the blanks.

Number One was in progress; the girl he’d met in the library seemed to be able to tolerate his presence.

Number Two had been accomplished with unsurprising ease. He’d always had a knack for pissing the pants off people. Literally and figuratively. The former had a story that was best saved until need it be said.

Number Three was doing just fine, he was neither failing nor passing.

Though, some closure on Number One would be best.

He’d been walking along the courtyard, looking at nothing in particular. The view was pretty nice, though. If he had a canvas, a palette and a brush, he would’ve stopped in his tracks and used them.

In one way or another, it was lucky he didn’t have any of those things. Otherwise, Number One wouldn’t be ticked off until third year, probably.
It hadn’t been the girl that had caught his attention. No, it had been the tune she’d been humming. Leonard could swear he recognised it...

“What’s that you’re humming?” Suddenly, he was sitting beside her, back against the fountain. Curiosity might have killed the cat, but it also might have saved Leonard’s social life. Hopefully.

Lizzie opened her eyes quickly as she heard the voice speak. It was another first-year from Slytherin. She opened her mouth to speak. He was sitting next to her. The Ravenclaw probably looked like a manic with her eyes wide open.

".. Hi.. Hiello." Her eyes went even wider when she said a mixed word in between hi and hello. What type of person was she? Lizzie did not act like that. She was normally confident but he just caught her of guard. She sighed and looked away being embarrassed.

After a few seconds of taking long deep breaths and finally got some confidence and looked at the boy across from her, "I wasn't really humming anything. It could have been a Queen song mixed with a Beatles song. Maybe a pop song I heard on my Uncle's TV?"

She studied his face while grinning. She hadn't expected to actually speak to so many people during her stay at Hogwarts for her first year. She was becoming pretty over-whelmed with how many people came to talk to her.

Maybe it was her Charm. Her Wit. her beauty? No that wasn't it. She probably was just a very approachable person and had a good aroma. That was it. "Do you have a name?" She asked while giggling a bit. Obviously the boy would have a name. What human didn't have a name.

"I have a name as well." She grimaced. What a way to make yourself more embarrassed. "I... I mean mine name is Lizzie."

There were two possibilities, Leonard figured. Letter A, the most likely, was that this was all a fever dream, and in a few minutes he’d wake in a cold sweat in the hospital wing. Letter B, he had indeed met a person who was just as awful at human interaction as he was.

Leonard was fairly sure it was Letter A. He resolved to make the most of it, before this all turned into a vivid hallucination starring scorpion-clown-squid hybrids and werewolves on a full moon.

“Queen and Beatles, really great bands. I think Freddie Mercury could’ve passed as a wizard just for his vocals, y’know,” he smiled, picking at the blades of grass. It was a surprisingly realistic dream. He could smell the dew that had formed, and could feel the soft drizzle of the fountain water on his cloak. “And, Lizzie, I do have a name. Leonard. Like the painter, but without the ‘o’. Or the actor. Or the ninja turtle. Your choice. You know what? Just call me Leo.”

He held his hand out. Hopefully it wasn’t sweaty. It didn’t feel sweaty. Merlin, please let it not be sweaty. That would be bloody embarrassing, even in a dream.

Ah yes, the courtyard; one of the busiest places in Hogwarts. It seemed almost all the students spent their free time out here ever since it had started to warm up, yet hardly anyone had been out here right now. Although she didn't particularly have a specific reason for coming out, she was interested in making new acquaintances. It seemed that her bold attitude brought her two new friends in the Ravenclaw common room, so why wouldn't it work now?

Lana wore a simple outfit, one that seemed much more modest than others she had. She decided to wear something lighter mainly because she didn't feel like wearing heavy black clothes in 90 degree weather. She skipped down the halls to the courtyard, Lana smiled as she finally made her way outside. As she passed a few friends she knew she gave them the ol' finger guns, her face filled with amusement.

Though upon walking further into the courtyard, she spotted a blonde hair colored girl. She swore she recognized her, though her back was turned so she couldn't really get that good of a look. Whoever it was, they seemed to be talking to a boy. Lana hadn't recognized him so there was nothing really to base him off of.

So with that, she trotted over to the two and waved. How bloody embarrassing it would be if it hadn't been Lizzie. Though, thankfully it was the same girl she had met in the common room, her brown eyes distinctly familiar. "Yo, Lizzie! What's up?" She said cheerfully, unsure of how to regard the boy she was standing with.

Brilliant, just when the fever dream was getting good. All of a sudden, this girl comes in, chirpy and cheerful, turning it into a nightmare.

It wasn’t her that was the nightmare, not at all. It was just, this was definitely a girl who knew social interaction. Probably prom queen, had she, whoever she was, had stayed at muggle school.

“You two know each other?”

Of course they do, moron, said a little troll in his head, sounding annoyed. This was the part of the brain most knew as the superego, though Leonard knew it as the wanker who kept on calling him out. They’re in the same house. She just referred to Lizzie by her first name. Unless she’s telepathic, they know each other. No wonder you didn’t end up in Ravenclaw, you’re an utter idiot.

“Um, hello. My name’s Leonard, you can call me Leo, though.” It all came out rapid and smashed together, like the syllables were in a race. If this were one to the finish line of the bottom of the social ladder, Leonard would win with ease and grace.

Two things that were currently unavailable to him, as of the moment.

Thanks, troll that kept on calling him out.

The ravenclaw grinned widely at the boy. This was the first time Lizzie was actually scared to say something in fear of them hating or being weirded out. Maybe it was a phase. Had she got a cold or something? I'm not sick. I am perfectly fine.

"Freddie Mercury could punch me and I wouldn't be angry. He is an angel." She laughed slightly while pushing a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "I'm Lizzie. Wait." She grimaced once again, "I already told you that didn't I?" She looked down at the floor once again scolding herself.

"Okay that well that will be easier. Knowing me I'll still call you Leonardo by accident." She wasn't joking. Lizzie got names wrong very easily. It was a habit of hers but she normally remember people she wanted to.

A familiar voice flooded Lizzie's head. The Ravenclaw turned to look at the girl she had recently met. Lizzie grinned and waved her over. "Lana. What are you doing out here? You already got dressed out of your robes?"

Lizzie knew she had a wild sense of fashion and saw her everywhere with it. Did she actually go to her classes in them and hide them with her robe? "You look nice today." She turned to Leo, "Yes we do. We met in the Common Room." She smiled widely at him.

Her clothes. Sure, she guessed she should be wearing her robes, but whats the fun in that. "Those robes are so boring, plus they look atrocious too." She replied, a sarcastic tone clinging to her voice. It was true- that she found the robes to be utterly hideous. Practically made her look like dork, although she wouldn't say it out loud. And even so, if she really had to change back into them- she always had them with her in a the bag she carried around.

As the boy introduced himself, she smiled and nodded in agreement with what Lizzie had said. Leo.. She thought to herself, making note of his existence for the next time she saw him. As she looked back at him though, he seemed almost flustered, like he was afraid of saying the wrong things.

"Ey, you alright? You seem a little.. nervous." Lana asked, cocking her head slightly to the right. He might've just been shy, and Lana just didn't get the hint. She was quite out there, maybe that's why she didn't understand.

Speaking of the common room, she immediately thought of Gem. Lana turned back to Lizzie, her hand running through her dyed red hair. "I was with Gem the other day, he found me and we set some stuff on fire. Not anything big- just papers, but still." She said, unsure of why it was important to tell. It wasn't the more she thought about it, but it did add fuel to the conversation; so she figured it was alright.

Lizzie looked down at her robes. She was wearing the plain skirt, knee high socks, a blouse and her tie. She had left her robe back in her Dorm due to the heat. "They do look alright on certain people." She was right. Some people looked so horrendous in them and others made it like a fashion statement like Lizzie.

The blonde girl turned to Leo and saw the Slytherin like he was in a conflict. "Yeah. You do look a bit nervous. Do you have a fever? Are you ill? I thought I was Ill earlier but I was just a but hot." She grinned at him while also being a bit worried.

Lizzie looked at Lana quickly at the mention of their friend, "Hm... I haven't seen him since the Common Room. I have been pretty busy though." She stated while pulling up the long sleeves of her blouse until to her elbow.

She widened her eyes at the mention of fire, "Fire? Isn't that a bit dangerous. I mean you could hurt someone even if it was only papers." She inquired. Lizzie got pretty paranoid at fire and flames. Anything else related to danger was an absolute blast. This included Lizzie, Blake and Cassie pulling pranks. Harmless ones of course.

"So, Leo. What made you want to talk to a peasant like me?" She asked hopping for a generic answer like 'you looked lonely' or 'I wanted to see what you were doing'. Anything other than that would probably put her in a state of shock. Lizzie was a pretty boring character when people thought about it.

Fire? Setting paper? On fire? Leonard wasn't sure whether to be appalled or start clapping.

"Peasant? Somebody has a high opinion of themselves," he muttered. Was he really that terrible at being calm, that people he'd never even talked to thought he was ill? "Don't know, really. You seemed interesting, and so I walked up to you. It was either that or live with the soul crushing guilt, so it wasn't too hard."

He smiled impishly, then, addressing the girl named Lana. "And, fire in the Common Room? Thought you Ravenclaws were supposed to be the responsible of the bunch. I mean, it's impressive. Things like that could really get someone in trouble. Not that I would ever think of selling you and this Gem bloke out."

No, he was not thinking of selling her and whomever Gem was out. It was just rather amusing to see their reactions. Would it be a, horrified? b, groveling? Or c, indifferent? Leonard personally enjoyed the second most. His cousins had gotten to their knees more times than he could count, and every time it was so incredibly pleasing.

And you thought you'd get into Ravenclaw with these two? The troll was back. That's basically sadism, that is.
