Maisie spent actually a surprising amount of time outdoors for a city girl. She'd sit on a bench, knitting needles in hand, waiting for the sound of deep footfall or a train that never arrived. Or she'd bring Mischief out for a walk and a chance to find some real carrots since she couldn't simply go to a Tesco. Or some days, she'd unearth one of her father's old cameras and just walk around and see what caught her interest.

Hogwarts was not a war zone or a high-strung political forum—the things her father captured through the lens—but it was a nice place and during the year, it was all she had. And it could look quite different really at different times of the day or at different angles. She just had to make time for it, which was not always easy when she had a million things to sew and create.

But she decided to take a small walk during the best time of the day: golden hour. Now in the spring, the hour fell after class, which was reasonable. And it was not too late she would need to worry about curfew. If anything, she might be a little late to dinner, but she knew Avis would hold a place for her at the Ravenclaw table.

The grounds were just beginning to twinkle with the golden warmth as she set out. Her first few photos seemed banal as she tried to compose images of the buttresses or stain glasses windows. Occasionally, she'd try to take a photo of someone candidly, but usually the students would flutter away the instant they saw the camera. Somehow, she thought street photography wasn't supposed to be like this.

Feeling a little defeated, she continued to mosey along as she pursed her lips. People think taking pictures is easy, but as her father would remind her, it was a real job. Even with the LUMOS club to look forward to, she sometimes faltered when it came to inspiration. It was not quite like the colorful hand-made accessories she paired with her school cloak.

It was then she noticed a cluster of Scottish bluebells or the harebell on a hill nearby. If she could get down low, she could frame it with the viaduct in the background. If the light stayed good, it could look quite nice she thought. So, she moved to do exactly that.

"Oh, sorry," she said as she felt someone bump at her side—or she bumped into them. She wasn't quite sure. Looking across, she saw a young blonde boy about her age—with a camera. Perhaps he had seen the same thing. "You saw it too?" she asked him enthusiastically as she moved over a hare so he could have a turn at composition.

The birds sang their song of farewell to the sun as she spread her golden beams down upon the awaiting greenery. It was May and time was coming to a soft halt. Ezra walked the the grounds of Hogwarts, taking in the evening and the beauty it brought. His steps quiet and thoughtful as his satchel bumped softly against his leg as he walked.

He was deep in thought as he took in the little things that nature presented him. He missed his sister. He hadn't seen her since Christmas holidays. He wished she could be here with him at Hogwarts. He sighed, his hands in his pockets as he hummed along. Summer was drawing near, he didn't want to go home but he didn't have much of a choice. He decided not to think about it and enjoy the beauty that surrounded him.

Ezra couldn't help but smile as he spotted butterflies flutter around the daffodils and rhododendrons. He gasped as he spotted a dash of colour atop a bare grassy hill. Scottish Bluebells! His sister loved those! They were her favourite colour and they looked like stars from the front. He wished she was there to see them. He stood and admired them from afar when he suddenly he remembered he had his camera with him and whisked it out to capture a photograph.

The light hit them perfectly and they seemed to glow in the evening sunlight. He sighed happily, moving to get a better angle. He was by no means a good photographer, for he only barely knew how to use a digital camera his father had once used, but he enjoyed capturing photographs for the fun of it. He squinted, taking a few steps sideways in order to get a better view.

Ezra let out a yelp of surprise as he felt himself bump into someone beside him. It was a girl with shining eyes and a camera in her grasp. He mumbled something of an apology, surprised that he hadn't noticed another person so close. His eyes lit up when she asked him if he has seen what she saw. "The flowers? Aren't they pretty?" He admired, snapping a couple photographs. He studied them for a few minutes. They had come out better than he had expected. The golden light made them look otherworldly. His sister would love them! He couldn't wait to show her.

"Do you come out here often? I feel like I've seen you before." He asked softly as not to disturb the peace that the golden hour presented. "I'm Ezra." He said, extending a hand to shake.

He saw it too, albeit in a more simplistic way. "Yes, the composition," she agreed. Her father always liked to use lots of fancy words—rule of thirds, golden ratio, etc—to describe just the unshakable feeling that the image looked right. She still wasn't exactly sure what made it right, only that sometimes she had a gut feeling that it was or wasn't. It was kind of how she knew if a sewing project had gone off the rails: some kind of base creative instinct. "I think the light really helps—the way it kind of shows through on the petals," she added. There was probably a word for that in Herbology, but with Avis loathing Herbology the way she did, Maisie paid attention as much as she had to and not much beyond that.

"Do you come out here often? I feel like I've seen you before," he said.

"Oh, em, maybe!" she beamed, "I do like to go on a photo walk when I can to practice. It's not the best, but it works." She gently held up her father's older rangefinder camera. It was one of several (both magical and muggle) that he kept in his office at home as backups or memories or both. "How long have you been shooting?" she asked curiously because she didn't recall him from the LUMOS club, at least not right away. But those meetings were often times when she felt the need to focus on pictures rather than peers.

"Maisie," she returned the introduction as she shook his hand, "Second Year, Ravenclaw." She deliberately excluded the word 'duellist' from her introduction. If he cared about sports, he might know it anyway. And if he didn't, she'd rather not spend time examining her pathetic record. She wanted to spend time out here. Her brown eyes looked around the surrounding highlands for a moment. "I have some time. Do you want to go on a photowalk adventure together? I find sometimes it's helpful. You might see something I don't and visa versa." She offered him a little knowing nod down the glen.
