FLYING BLADES vs RED PHOENIXES |
- 1st String Chaser - |
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────As the game came into full swing, Lyanna needed to adjust to not being a second string and cheering on her team at the beginning of the match before kicking off the ground herself. On this particular occasion, however, the game was different. She was captain and first string chaser from the very beginning, cheering on her team when able, but decisively more focused on saving any who fell to the ground thus far.
The game was going well; despite the penalty laps awarded to Aodhan and Maisie who had both managed to knock an opponent from their brooms (which in itself was already a plus), they were ten points up Quaffle-wise and Prat – who had seemingly woken up from his nap enough to aim but was too sleepy to dodge – had bludgered Hana successfully as well. Overall, the win seemed to be in their favor.
As long as they kept doing good, the match would be theirs. Even the sky was as blue as ever, the clouds and wind a relief from the hot sun, which to the sunchild served as a propellor, the light that kept her going, blessing those living on planet earth with its brilliant rays.
"Good job guys, keep it up!"

Taking to the Sky
The second they launched into the air, Joseph was lost in the action.
Wind rushed past, tangling his hair into thick messy knots. People zipped around him. Which were his teammates? Where was everyone? He tightened his grip on Gazzo, as a bead of sweat trickled down his forehead. It wasn’t possible to keep up with everything, not with everyone speeding around like overexcited chipmunks.
Looking out for flying ball missiles while playing his role was hard enough. Surely he wouldn’t have to look out for human projectiles too. No one could be THAT merciless in an unofficial quidditch game… right?
“Focus,” he muttered, eyes snapping around the playing field. A chaser, that’s what he was. His job was to score goals.
Forward he bent, then dipped to snatch at the huge red ball, the act almost sending him careering off his broom. Perfect. With gritted teeth, Joseph shot towards the hoops.
The next moments passed in a blur of colour and light. His first attempt at goal was far from great, with him ending up in an awkward block by some opponent girl, but he recovered quickly, returning to somehow score not just one, but two goals for the team. All thanks to Gazzolax, of course.
“You're actually cooperating for once,” he noted, beaming down at his broom with his fist still raised in triumph. “So much for trying not to fall. We're actually winning!”
He'd never dared dream of playing quidditch, let alone score. “We've got a ten point lead. Let's expand that a lil, shall we?” A smirk slid onto his face, eyes gleaming with wicked joy. Not that anyone noticed.
Then he noticed something that made his heart twist. His friends, Avery and Pam knocked right off their brooms. They were from the other team but still…
He made a mental note to check in on them later, maybe with a chocolate or two. That would help. Chocolate made everything better, after all.
He tore his gaze from them. Back to task.
Time to score more goals.

ROUND 2
Once more, Joseph and Ellie would battle for the Quaffle. However, with no keepers guarding the goalposts, their jobs would be far easier. For each student, it would be simple to score should they not fumble irreversibly. Fortunately for them, neither did; Joseph landed an easy thirty points while Ellie scored twenty. 'Thirty points to the Flying Blades; twenty to the Red Phoenixes.'

Unfortunately for the Snitch, no one cared to deal with it. Maybe it was due to Avery having been targeted during the last round. Whatever the case, it fluttered its little wings and perched atop one of the goalposts as if posing for a photograph.

The Beater action was a lot less interesting this time. Only Prat opted to attempt to bludger someone. The attempt was successful, with Hana falling off her broom. She maintained consciousness somehow, which made Jessamine panic momentarily before casting a quick Arresto Momentum followed by an Episkey. With the way her heart rate had spiked, she would not have been surprised if she had gained a grey hair.

The teams certainly appeared to have a propensity for cheating. Jessamine bit back a tsk and instead lifted her eyebrows, intrigued, as Mikey and Denise set their sights on fouls. Mikey came close to Ellie – quite close, so close she would likely feel a rush of wind – but did not manage to knock her off her broom. Denise had even less luck. Though she extended her arms, she just did not come close, as Mikey easily darted out of the way.
'You'll have to be a bit smoother than that – two penalty laps, coming right up, one for each of you.'

It's like have Aodhan had little antennas, little feelers that insects had that helped them sense fear and presence of people before leaping towards them, immediate death. It hadn't been immediately, the game had begun kids zipping out and about through the sky. Falling every once in a while and striking each other and throwing balls through goals. Like a horror movie, the boy's head snapped to look at Fire, their eyes meeting. Ah, damn it.
"Fire?!" god save me, god save me... "Remind me not to get on your bad side!"
Aodhan's hair was currently a deep bright purple hue, an annoying color for a vermin. Well not really, purple was a fine color but he had to think of some reason why the boy annoyed him more than he already did. Fire hadn't even noticed the way his eyebrows knitted together, and his nose and lips pulled into a sneer.
Taking a moment of sadness to realize that they were also on the same team, he groaned inwardly from cringe, a small roll of his dark eyes at the Gryffindor's comment. Man that voice, jesus christ, he wished so hard he was on the other team just to have an excuse to knock him off his broom. But he settled to do so to another player.
"Hey little gripper," Fire spoke boredly as he got into position, not knowing what to say to the next part, instead opting to just give a look that was a mixture of disbelief and 'you cannot be serious'.
The boy watched as Aodhan zoomed on his broom like a tiny turpedo, he had to give it to him, he was extremely fast it was like he blinked and the kid was on the otherside of the field smacking someone to the ground.
Fire refocused himself setting his eyes @Ellie Radensmith moving through the sky with ease, surging forward in attempt to bludger the girl.

Taking to the Sky

This was going well. Lyanna had implied as much with her encouragement. And Maisie had done the math and found what she thought was the easiest path to victory. And yet watching the opposing team fall was never fun. Each team Maisie grazed the side of an opponent, she felt the knot in her stomach as she watched them fall. Grazing the quaffle, which she had yet to do today, created worry, but it was not the same. Grazing the quaffle at least had seconds of help and hope.
But that wasn't this game. This game seemed very aggressive and she was complicit in it. Maisie was competitive, absolutely. But there was a gradient and they were running it up. Maisie suspected there wouldn't be much of this left.
And yet, the reality was she didn't know very many people on this team. There was one housemate (Mikey) and Lyanna, whom she only knew as a referee from duelling. She grit her teeth, hoping whatever the outcome, it might give her the opportunity to get to meet more people. Despite her more extraverted nature, she often found herself among the same circles of people.
Maybe that was what she liked about the sky: up here, you could be anyone.

Taking to the Sky
The penalty lap wasn't actually what bothered Mikey. At first he'd been annoyed. He thought he'd almost pulled it off. But the longer he flew, the more his thoughts kept drifting back to Ellie. He hadn't really thought about it when he made his move. It had just been part of the game. Someone had a plan, he followed it, and for a few seconds all he'd been focused on was getting close enough to make it work. Now that he had time to think about it, though, it hit a little differently.
Mikey glanced across the pitch toward the opposing team as he rounded the far side of the field. If he'd actually succeeded, Ellie would have been falling. His grip tightened on the broom handle. That didn't feel great. Quidditch was supposed to be fun and competitive, sure. But actually trying to knock someone off their broom? He let out a slow breath and shook his head at himself.
Somewhere overhead the Snitch was still being completely ignored. If he was going to win, he'd rather do it with a smart play, or a lucky catch. Not by sending someone else to the ground. With that thought in mind, he leaned forward and accelerated, letting the wind carry the rest of the guilt away for now.

Out of the many games Denise played, this might actually be the most disastrous game she has played, ever. Their luck was worse than spoiled milk, already by the second round.
First, the Red Phoenix's seeker, @Avery Gray, and chaser @Pamela Graham were out, but clearly, that couldn't be the total end, right?
Until... well... they shouldn't have forgotten about Prat Pass. Prat has always been rather an annoying and pesky menace, and he continued to be so, much to her disgust and distaste. With the large bludger, he bludgered Hana Suzuki, likely from a bloody revenge since she had successfully attacked him before. He was, unfortunately, rather successful. Instead of a bloody mess, Madame Lancaster again at least had the kindness to levitate Suzuki, like with Gray and Graham.
But Suzuki was out, with no players out on the other team. There were only four players left in the Red Phoenix.
Denise truly didn't want to pull out a blatching, which was a KOB foul, but well... she didn't exactly have a choice. Her victim, well, if she was successful, Mikey Forville. Before she had the chance to do so, he tried to blatch Ellie Randensmith, much to her surprise.
Randensmith was able to evade. Perhaps watching the blatching and seeing Suzuki fall distracted Denise too much because when she attempted to blatch Forville, she failed miserably, even more than Forville's own attempts.
She shot a glare back at Forville as Madame Lancaster spotted both fouls. Annoyed, she went off without an argument, off to her penalty lap with her entrusted Comet 180.
