As Natasha moved to cast the spell that Diana didn't know how to cast yet, she held her breath, hoping and praying that the spell would work. If it didn't, well, they'd be stuck in that room until one of the other members participated. Thankfully, the spell worked, and they were able to move on to the next section of the labyrinth.
The thing that nearly caught her attention was the pool in the center of the yard. Why was there a pool inside the labyrinth in the first place? The shimmering teal liquid reflected sunlight so brightly that Diana had to squint slightly against it. Her eyesight is usually great in the sun, too! Around the pool stood marble statues decorated with ruby gemstones, making the entire place look more like a royal garden than part of a maze. Then she remembered they were inside the red queen's labyrinth, so the statues made sense.
For a second, Diana almost forgot they were supposed to be solving obstacles, until her eyes saw the axe. The huge blade swung back and forth above the narrow grassy path crossing through the center of the pool. Even if it looked softer upon closer inspection, the sight of it moving overhead still made her instinctively uneasy. Surely no one would get killed inside this labyrinth, right? Instead of rushing forward immediately, because Diana doesn't rush into things, she studied the movement of the axe carefully. It swung left and right as if it were a pendulum. The rhythm also seemed steady enough and almost predictable and that meant it could be timed.
"We probably just have to run across when the swing moves away," Diana said quietly after a moment as she still watched the pattern.
"It doesn’t look real, but I don’t think getting hit by it would be pleasant either." Before looking back toward Natasha, Diana tightened her grip on her wand.
"I think speed matters more than anything here." And with that Diana stepped closer to the grassy path, waiting carefully for the right moment in the axe’s swing before preparing to dash across and whether the others followed her or not the young seer will run.
