A Familiar Face.

Ira was intrigued by what potions was actually about. She was always interested in DADA, Transfiguration or even Charms, she was never quite interested in Potions class whatsoever. After a disastrous first class, she went ahead to attend potions in the dungeons accompanied by @Anne Brown when she found out that they were to attend the class with the Slytherins.

"Wow the emerald green of the slytherins look so dashing." she thought as a couple of students brushed past her, whispering among themselves.

The dark black benches, with an atmosphere full of awe, the green fumes from a hot pot of an unknown potion brewing, the smell of wood and magic filled the room with strange nostalgia. Ira was bedazzled by the vibes of the room. She was so immersed in observing and absorbing every little detail of the room that she did not realise where she was going as a large number of students rushed past her.

For a few moments she was lost in observing and absorbing the great details of the dark classroom only to realise she had not taken her seat. She looked everywhere around the classroom and found Ann sitting at a corner. She quickly reached beside her, catching a glimpse of a familiar face who had walked right past her.
He was a Slytherin boy, dark brown hair, blue eyes and the same friendly aura that she had seen somewhere before.
"Wait, isnt that @Alex Kavanagh from before?" she thought, finally recognising the guy who had offered her a sit.
"Hey Alex!" She called out, "How was your first day? Oh and meet Ann! She is my friend. She is really nice and super friendly.
Ann this is Alex, he was kind enough to offer me a seat while boarding the train. We had lots of fun discussing about our likes and dislikes. I think you two will get along just fine, we should hang out together sometimes, what do you guys say?
"

The castle is big enough that if you take a wrong turn, it'd lead you somewhere you won't even know of. Speaking for the first year obviously. Thank goodness, the Slytherin Common room is closer to the Potions class so Alex doesn't have to walk too far and figure out how the moving stairs works again. Just when he enters the class, the herbal aromas greet him almost instantly. Alex scan around the classroom almost awkwardly, 'am i late?' searching for an empty seat in any table of group.

Just when he thought no one would recognise him here, a girl calling out his name. 'oh for Salazar sake.' He thought to himself, looking at the owner of the voice. "Ira," He mutter her name under his breath before walking to the table where Ira sat with her friends. "It's you." he say, looking at Ira's red tie and mentally nodding his head. When Ira were introducing him to her friend, Alex turn his head slowly with his usual blank face that people sometimes mistook as a rude.

"Alex Kavanagh. Nice to meet you, Anne Brown." He say simply, taking his seat on an empty stool.

Alex quietly watch and listen to the chatters around him as he fidget around the hard cover of the potion textbook. "I don't mind." He say as Ira mention about hanging out together. Then he find himself watching something moving in a large clay vase in front of the classroom, he tilt his head slightly as if studying the plant with a curious gaze.
"It behaves like a feline." He say mostly to himself, a habit he sometimes never even notice, not until someone pointed it out.

Ira was happy to hear that Alex had recognised her. She was sad they couldnt go into the same house after all he was one of the few people she met on the first time boarding the train.
Alex calmly replied to her and acknowledged her. Ira liked this serenity about him. His presence never screamed for attention neither was he too loud or overwhelming, he reminds her of her best friend before Hogwarts, Damian. Ira was glad Anne could also meet him and she pictured a perfect friendship for them.

Ira is usually clumsy and careless but she seldom fails to reas the room. Seeing Alex fidget with his potions bookcover, she thought perhaps she was being too persuasive and didnt want to pressure anybody to accept anything out of mere obligation.

"So-" She was trying to loosen up the mood when she noticed a plant like thing flailing around in a closed glass jar. It piqued her curiosity. Ira didnt know much about plants. That plant was sort of special. It beamed with sparks of joy, Ira thought.
"Its sort of cute." she muttered under breath at the same as Alex when she realised he had noticed it too.
"Do you know what it is?" she asked him as she was sure Anne couldnt know much about the Wizarding world being a muggle born.

Anne made her way to her potions class accompanied by Ira. Anne was intrigued by all the potions, glass vials and elements surrounding them. The class was somehow gloomy but it had a lot of different objects Anne couldn’t recognize. The professor who was already standing there seemed very serious. Anne was wondering if it would be an easy class.

Then, as they found a seat, Ira had recognized a boy. Then she called him over and introduced him. He seemed calm with an unreadable poker face. “Nice to meet you too.” Anne said as he introduced himself.

Anne could barely imagine how Ira hung out with Alex. They seemed polar oposites. Ira was super cheery and talkative. She would never shut up. While Alex seemed more formal and serious. But, well, let them be. Anne will probably get to meet him better.

Then, they switched the topic to talking about some plant. Anne found it peculiar. It looked cute but she had no clue of what it was. “I don’t know” Anne said. “What is that thing?”

Anne noticed how Ira wanted to brake the ice. But right now, Anne wasn’t even sure what else to talk about. All her interest had gone fixated over some plant sitting in a jar.

The class slowly fill with first year students, searching for an empty to seat and a partner to chat with, perhaps. Alex's gaze still fixed on the moving plant in amusement. He'd soon pierce a hole straight to the wall if he kept staring at it but then Ira's voice cut through the brief silent. "I have seen it somewhere though it's quite hazy." He say, thinking more intensely but the memory of the plant doesn't appear in his mind.

"Is that a pet or a plant? or half of each?" He mutter more to himself before he look elsewhere, noting that he'll be reading about the plant soon enough. In the library perhaps. Merlin, he couldn't wait to see the library when he think about it. "How's your first day going so far?" Alex ask to the both of the girls, face still giving nothing away but he's genuinely curious and try to engage in conversation. "I hope you settles just fine." He then turn slightly to Anne.

"Praytell, what's your favourite animal?" Alex ask, out of nowhere. He always ask this question to all of the people who try to befriend him or he try to befriend with, out of curiosity and interest that's been waiting to jump out of his chest. "If you don't mind telling of course." He say again, trying not to pressure them with the sudden question.

"Its so playful. I will call it Frolix." she said giving it another glance before facing Anne and Alex. Ira is not that interested in plants or animals but the sort of creatures that are cute, mischievous or adorable seems to be her type.

"Oh please dont ask me. I wish I could have just said marvellous but it was a nightmare! I don't want to study theory!! Ughhh. We can simply learn the incantations why do we have to study it from the books? What a pain!" Ira complained making an annoyed face. She was expectating for some dashing magic tricks but got hit with a reality check. Ordinary and Ira? They dont go well together.

"I am just glad I made a friend. Ann is the best." She smiled reassuringly at Anne, "What about you Alex? Did you make any friends from your house? Man...I wish we were in the same house." Sighs "Nevermind lets just hang out in the great hall or maybe the library" Ira was glad that Alex was asking questions about them. She loves talking and anybody who wishes to yap with her becomes her bestie. Although Alex seemed to be reserved, Ira loved the fact that he was considerate and friendly.

"Favorite animal?" Ira was startled at the question. She never had much interest in them so the sudden question made her think for a while.
"I think mine would be a niffler. They are fluffy, cute, mischievous and like me, they love shiny objects! Such a cute creature. What about you guys? And why do you like them?" she asked the two of them in a lowered voice so that the teacher doesn't hear them.

"What's a Frolix? So you do know what its name." Alex ask, turn his head towards Ira with a curious tone though his face were still as stone. It's one of the most expressive he's been since they met. "Frolix.." He mutter the name, as if foreign on his own tongue. He sure is clueless sometimes. His finger trace the spine of his potion textbook, eyes wandering around the classroom; observing.

When Ira complained about her 'absolutely wonderful' day, Alex watch her talk and listen carefully without interrupting. He'd known better than to do that. Then a question come. "What about you Alex? Did you make any friends from your house? Man...I wish we were in the same house." Ira asked. He didn't respond instantly, letting a beat pass.

"Well, at the moment no." He finally say with the same tone of voice as his gaze were still on both of the girls.

Alex doesn't look bothered by the lack of friends he have in this school. He'd rather be focusing on his classes and improve himself on where really need to though there's time where he feels like he's doing something wrong even if he's just being himself.

"I like niffler too. though i wouldn't want it near my belongings." Alex say, his face soften ever so slightly before he speaks again, voice slower as he moves his inked quill against his parchment "I have a soft spot for cats and dragons. such a fascinating creatures i would say."

"Wait, wait, wait.... A what now? Since when are plants pets!" Anne asked surprised. "Well, good to know its name. Though I agree with Ri. Studying that would just be tedious. I mean, cool to look at it, but I really don't care anything else about it. Or at least for now." Anne said.

"Well our day so far has been okay. Except that Ira arrived late to Charms." Anne said chuckling.

Anne smiled at Alex and said: "Well I guess if you hang out with us, we'll be your first friends. But you'll really need to socialize a bit more. Getting through the year without friends from your class wouldn't be as fun. Company is always better. But you do you. It's just a suggestion. Well I guess the library would be a good meeting spot. Though don't expect me to sit still for very long. I can easily go through some hours. But no more than 4 or maybe 5 if we've got a lot to do." She added after giving it a quick thought.

"What's a niffler anyways? They sound nice but is it like a type of dog or something? Never heard of it." Anne really thought about that. Had she ever heard about it? Maybe. But she wasn't sure. Then, she had to think what would be her favorite animal. She wasn't really sure. She had never really thought about that. "I guess I like dogs." She said after thinking about it. Then she knew what it was. "A golden retriever would be my dream. They are beautiful, loyal, fun, anything you can ask for!" She finally answered. "Cats sound nice too, but they are too lazy. And dragons.... Well I don't know. I still have to get used to the idea of a bunch of magical creatures."

Ira gave the two of them a huge side eye. "Heh? Its just a made up name by me" she thought but didnt say anything. It's fun for her to watch people go along with whatever nonsense she says. She was enjoying the 'know it all' vibe.

"Well yea its a cute name. I think I heard it somewhere, I probably forgot about it." she said with utmost confidence when she clearly mentioned she didnt have any idea previously.

Hearing Alex having no friends made Ira very sad. She was mildly pitying him.
"Yes Ann is right! You should also hang out more with us if not with other people. Its just the start of school, I am sure you will come across more friends in no time!" she wanted to cheer him up as she looked at his stoned face thinking he must be lonely and depressed deep inside.
Ira flinched at Anne's mention of library time though. Like 4 to 5 hours? Perhaps she is most likely to be found at the prohibited area or about the history of quidditch but if you expect her to be studying, it will probably because she was almost failing and now she has no other choice.

"Nifflers are unique Ann! They have flat beak, small eyes, a small body, sort of blackish in color, flat padded hands and feet and is very mischievous! It can steal your coins and jwellery if you arw not careful enough. Ira explained to Anne.
"Same! Cats are literally my dream pet. I especially love that they are indifferent to people who take care of them but love random strangers. I think it adds up to their character. I like thestrals and hipogriffs and dragons. They do give off the same vibes. Wow AL you have nice taste." she said, being genuinely proud of him. Ira was trying her best to befriend the lonesome guy. He was giving off vibes of that of a lost child to her. She is the type to pat a random child on the street if he were get an A or win a medal in sports, just because her inner 'elder sister' core was proud.

"Golden retrievers, I think I have heard that name... What sort of a dog is it? Does it have sharp canines or a cute face? Is it strong? Does it retrieve anything? Maybe jwellery or shiny objects like a niffler?" she addressed Anne, curious about a new creature. She will be curious about anything but her syllabus.

The entire lesson is going pretty well, Alex found himself enjoying the lesson more than he thought. He glance to Anne briefly as she speak, "Well I guess if you hang out with us, we'll be your first friends. But you'll really need to socialize a bit more. Getting through the year without friends from your class wouldn't be as fun. Company is always better. But you do you." He listen as he always does while his quill move again, jotting down the notes that was written on the board. "I must thank you Anne," He mutter to her before dipping his quill in the ink gently and begin to write again.

"My mum once encountered a niffler and it stole her silver watch and necklace but thank Merlin she's able to get it back." He mutter while his face soften by the mere thought of his mother.

Alex's brows briefly furrowed as Ira asked what is a golden retriever, "It's just golden looking dog and it's friendly enough to rot my emotional state." He say after finishing the note and copy the homework questions. "I wish i have a pet." He sigh quietly as he focus on the lesson ahead.

" The lesson of history is that no one learns. "
