River held her breath as she reached down in an attempt to grab hold of the rugby ball. Damn it, it was so close she could feel the wind of it blow by as the other student managed to swoop it up right in front of Rivers nose. The ravenclaw quickly gave the girl a wink, she’d done a pretty good job that was for sure.
Now, Rivers next action became unsure. She didn’t plan on getting in a tooth and nail fight for a ball someone was already carrying. The only way to win otherwise was to get the rest off the field, which wasn’t going to work out either.
Accepting her non-win, the dhampir retreated further in toward the center of the area, keeping her eyes out for any spells thrown her way. And spells were thrown. Luckily not in her direction, but some people were going to great lengths for this game.

River wondered how much time was left of the game. And she hoped she wouldn’t have to jump out of the way of any incoming spells. Or of course, worst case, be hit by any of them. That wouldn’t be fun either.
She was aching to use some more magic, and wondered if she should at least try to do something towards the nearing end of the game, but it would have to wait.

Whilst moving out of the Ravenclaw's spells way in a gracefully piroutte, the cool tinge of approaching Spring whipping through her air as she spun, the spell that was intended for its target missed entirely. Surprisingly, in the path of redirection was a younger Gryffindor girl, one who evidently attempted to knock her back with her own jinx. That was not too bad.

For the first time in the whole game, Aurelia was hit by the most used spell of the whole competition. It had struck her side, the impact hard and merciless, throwing the 100 lbs girl backwards like a ragdoll. Aurelia found herself staring up at the darkening sky as she laboriously tried to regain the air which was forced out of her moments ago. It was about to happen sooner or later, there was no way that the club leader herself could avoid taking a hit throughout the game.

About the extent of half a minute, the brunette spent on the ground, her brown hair loose from the braid which had once secured those long locks sprawled around her. Bruises were a definite guarantee. The monster hunter rose to her feet. A mere Flipendo was nothing compared to those dhampir bites and burns she had faced over the years. She raised her wand and her blue-grey hues finding its target. The circus boy. He was taunting and asking for trouble. And trouble she would send flying his way, "Flipendo!"

The metamorph grew excited when she felt the odd texture of the rugby, beneath the think fabric of her gloves. Her excitement was fleeting however, when another person approached. It was the ginger she had targeted earlier in the game. Xailah instinctively swept the ball up, and cradled it to her chest, as if it were some small animal that needed to be protected. Her inky little daggers met the rounded pupils of the fiery-haired lass. The ginger didn't put up a fight. She didn't try to grab the ball out of her hands. The metamorph wasn't quite sure what to think of the young ginger.

If the Gryffindor could maintain her grasp on the ball, she could possibly win the game. So now she was faced with a few options, two of them could possibly secure her win. She could dodge, or she could move to the center. There were less people there, which meant the chances of someone trying to take the ball from her, were low. Those would be the obvious options if she was playing solo- which she wasn't. Happy at first, the girl brought the ball up over her head, holding it up triumphantly for her companion to see. Look! She bounced on the balls of her feet, her energy like that of an happy dog.

The lioness wanted to win, but... she also wanted Pericles to win. At the beginning of the game Pericles said that even if only one of them won, then that meant that both of them won. Sure, she didn't really understand what that meant; but she did understand that she would not feel right, if she was the one holding the ball. Her gaze fell to the oblong object in her hands, and then up at her team mate. Making decisions- making good decisions, wasn't something that she was particularly good at, but that was nothing new. "You ssstay right there!" She shouted to the bird. She was on a mission. If she could get the rugby to the boy, then she could call it a win in her book.

A partial win. That was probably the best way of thinking about it. While the SWAG leader had not fallen for the ruse, others seemed to take advantage of the distraction, as more than two spells came rocketing in the third year's direction. Piérre himself spotted an older-looking girl pointing a wand in his direction, and just as the Britalian was prepared to dodge, the spell exploded backward, backfiring spectacularly on the girl.

Lady Luck was still on Piérre's side, it seemed.

Well, whether or not Lady Luck would continue to be his ally was going to be fleeting, especially if he was going to push her farther than he bounds would allow. Certainly, he could not rely on another spell backfiring to save his skin again. It would have to be yet another test of his dexterity and charisma to see him through to the next round. Perhaps he was close to winning...

Perhaps he could still win this.

Piérre could hardly notice the strifes of other people around him, his vision completely tunneling about the idea of actually winning and succeeding something that he had put time, sweat, and certainly blood into.

With a huff, Piérre ended up on his hands once again, "jogging" around the area as if he were on his feet. If he was going to lose, or if he was going to win... may as well do it in style. Certainly, the Britalian was prepared for fast moves, and his head was still on a swivel for anything which was destined to fly his way.

Just as if history was writing itself once again, a flicker of movement, and Piérre spotted the third year leader pointing her wand at him. With a flip, Piérre was bouncing foot to foot like a little girl, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape, watching the beam of light and the anticipation of possibly having another close shave with death.

You don't have to. You can mess this up. I have a plan, Piérre.

Her line of sight rose upwards almost without her consent, pale eyes staring down at her upperclassman as the Aurelia gracefully pirouetted out of the way of a green jet of light that could have spelt near disaster had it hit. The fluidity that her upperclassman performed that particular move spoke of long days of practice- it seemed that most, if not all, aristocratic purebloods made sure that their heirs kept somehow unworldly in every way and prettily intimidating Aurelia was no exception.

Before her eyes, a stream of red had slammed into the other and the Gryffindor was airborne much like Astrea had been merely a few minutes ago, a cackle ringing through the air as the brunette hit the floor. The Neptune-Chou's breath hitched for a second as she stared, arm still up and yet attention totally detached from the game at play.

It wasn't until Aurelia had risen from the floor with a purpose that the forcing concern seemed to abate, a weakening in the strange spell that enraptured Astrea's entire attention and the Slytherin was herself once more- not like before, for it felt like Aurelia had been prone for so long as she watched owlishly, Astrea's heart skipping a beat as she merely watched sun-lightened locks of hair against brilliant green sprawled upon the floor so still before they quivered with motion. It lasted not half a minute and yet her entire focus was tunnelled and time turned to molasses.

She was fine. Aurelia was fine and Astrea turned back to the matter at hand- she was no scullery maid sent to watch over a pot to keep it from overboiling, no monitor assigned to keep a class in check, no nursemaid and yet she felt the heaviness that came with any of those tasks acutely. Much to her eternal displeasure, neither a spark nor whips had drawn themself from her wand, the pretty cherry-wooded instrument as useful as a decoration at that very moment. Her jaw clenched in frustration as she stared unbelievingly at the wand, knuckles going bloodless at the mere audacity of herself. She had gotten distracted, her mind wandering elsewhere with all the dreaminess of a languid summer's day. What a disappointment. An amateur thing- she would not be like the masses, liable to forget and easy to dismiss, for she had to be better than that.

Both tickets of victory had been claimed and Astrea was not being a coward by immediately choosing to disregard either, only being strategic. She truly doubted her own ability in physical prowess to wrestle away the balls- compared to many of the born-ignorants who relied on the actual body for more than magic, Astrea was practically a limpet. A not very physically strong person, but particularly good at other things. Where her strength lay was magic, and magic was what she would wield like a sword. The only other way to win was to be the last person standing. Which, as she found out, she was more than fine with.

Ready. A simmering feeling of annoyance fuelled conviction gripped her as she resolved to attack the furthest away, body strung up and taut like a marionette doll.

Take aim. A white mop of hair atop a head that was attached to a broomstick body and a raised wand where Aurelia had stood not even a few minutes ago. Perfect.

The other was so far away from the middle of the play, if she landed then there would be one less to worry about. Fire. "Flipendo!"

The fancy footwork which swept Aurelia out of harm's way incidentally sent her own spell wide. Pericles swept to the side instinctively, elation and relief coursing through him when the bolt struck grass. He raised his aspen weapon, another spell on the tip of his tongue, prepared to go toe-to-toe with the older orchestrator. Then, a flash of red, and she was knocked from the first range sanctuary. The Ravenclaw hesitated for a split second before bolting onward. Despite the light of his eyes being hidden by goggles, the great grin he flashed back at Xailah made his happiness all too evident. Clearly the lad as enjoying himself to the fullest.

All the while, he was scanning the field, seeming to have accepted the range's risk and taken up the mantle of long-distance guardian. All active opponents were considered with darting eyes and churning calculations. He watched Katrina bolting into the second range, only to be targeted by Anastasia. Alan, though in the safety of Range One, was casually carrying a conversation. Hitting him wouldn't only be pointless: it would be poor form. So, too, would be striking Aurelia while she was down. There were some aspects of decorum which may be marked as weak traits, but Pericles played fair. River was wisely retreating, and Piérre was... executing a series of distractions which would have impressed Cirque du Soleil. No one was targeting nor coming close to Xailah, yet, and so he simply sought to keep pace with the third-year. He nearly hollered at her to stay in the safer range once she called his way, but instead, he could only laugh. The sound was joyous, a baffled little chortle, fitting a young wizard at play. He was trotting in to meet her when he heard it: another cry of Flipendo!

Silver eyes went wide behind dark lenses. Pericles nearly shouted out for his designated teammate to duck, but there was no time. Instead his arm whipped out reflexively, voice bold as he barked a hasty "Verdimillious!"

Not being targeted was starting to put Bridget more on edge than just holding the Quaffle. Sure, there were other things to do. There were people near the edge of the circle to eliminate. The other ball was up for grabs, or was, as two girls went for it, the third year emerging victorious. But for no one to even send a half-hearted spell at her was strange.

One downside of having the red leather ball in her possession was how much harder it made spell casting. Bridget hadn't tried to cast anything yet, but even holding the length of wood while maintaining a tight grip on the Quaffle was a challenge. The Slytherin had the bad feeling she would do something stupid like drop the ball if she fired off a spell, so she figured, at least for now, that was out of the question.

Well, if no one was going to try to take the ball away or hit her with a spell, she should use the opportunity, right? After all, the center of the circle was slightly less inhabited and gave her more of a buffer between the ring of rocks should she be Flipendoed. Hoping she was making the right decision, Bridget journeyed back to where she'd started.

Thankfully, despite his mind not present in the game, Alan was fortunate not to have spells flung his way. He was a kind-hearted boy who was probably the only one who was concerned about Rafael's well-being. Nevertheless, the outcome for the next round and if he would remain unscathed might not be in his favour. That being said, it was best that he fixated back onto the game and not try his luck.

The unexpectedness seemed to serve her well. While the whole crowd was moving towards the circle for whatever reason it had, Xailah was moving... to the border. She was playing a dangerous game: she had the Rugby ball and would win the game if she'd manage to keep it for just a little more, but at the same time she moved to the most dangerous area — one knockback and she's out while being so close to victory.

Piérre was still kicking... somehow.

And this was the last round. The Britalian was still standing. The lad knew that he had little to no hope of actually snagging a ball from either of the girls who possessed them, but what he did know was that even if he didn't have a trinket from the fight, merely standing at the end of the chaos would be enough to declare him a partial winner.

As such, the Britalian continued his movement, having neatly avoided the burst of magical energy that the club leader had sent his way mere moment before. Evidently, between Piérre's tiny form and his naturally precise sense of knowing when danger was coming his way, his dexterity had been just a bit too much for the intrepid Aurelia to overcome and hit.

Not much longer... Not much longer could the battered and tired form of Piérre take much more strain. Even now, the adrenaline was slowly fading, the bruises and the soreness from the previously successful attacks already beginning to take a toll on the lad.

This really was going to be his coup de grace, wasn't it?

Oh well, time to make the best of it.

Biting her lip in irritation, she scanned the remaining players again. Several seemed to have disappeared into thin air, which was mildly amusing. Twirling her wand in her fingers the way a Muggle might with a pencil, she thought for a moment. Her team had crumbled and she was kind of over all this nonsense at this point. Still, she wanted to win, or at least not embarrass herself the way that some of the other players (Pierre) were. Honestly, what was going on in some people's heads?

Ana furrowed her brow. She wasn't in the same range as either of the balls, and she could tell that time was running out. Clearly, since there were so many people left, she wasn't going to be the last one standing. However, she was spiteful enough that she wanted to take down someone with her. One of the girls holding the balls was in the third range, right on the edge. Ana smirked and flicked her wand towards the older Gryffindor. "Flipendo!" she said. She was hoping her targeting would be more on this round. She had cast the spell perfectly both of the previous times, just missed the second time.

Well, the third time was the charm, right?
