Ruby was delighted when Xailah had also lifted her hand in a wave. Content, she had wandered around for a little more until she was satisfied that she wouldn't be interrupting anything between the two. Pericles had wandered off to meet Breana—a girl Ruby had met and comforted once when she was crying. He had apparently encouraged Xailah to come talk to her, and while Ruby was excited to properly meet her, she hoped that it was what the unique girl truly wanted and not just Peri's request.

She approached and Ruby greeted her with a smile. “That's correct, it's Ruby Cazares. Xailah, yeah?” When she mentioned not having a proper conversation before, Ruby replied, “I'm glad we have a chance to rectify that, then.” Fortunately for the Gryffindor, Ruby did not entirely remember her from the last Blossom Ball. The Slytherin had only been there for a moment, arriving late and leaving as soon as the chaos started. She should have stayed to help, and that weighed on her sometimes, but she had chosen to flee and put the incident out of her mind.

She had experienced one of the disastrous events that had happened recently, though. The spider attack on Slytherin had affected her both emotionally and physically, and she would never forget the pain that she had felt when she was bitten. While others had suffered more and that was undeniable, it was still the most painful thing she had experienced in her life. Perhaps it should have increased her sense of self-preservation, but it made her want to help others instead and she would hopefully have the courage to stand her ground when it was needed. No child should ever have to endure that kind of agony. Despite typically being on the cold side, Ruby would never wish that on anyone.

Bringing herself back to the present, she realised that Xailah had asked a question. “My coat… my relatives got it for me after I requested something more practical than a dress. They sent it to me not long ago. And you—where did you get your dress from? You look quite lovely in it, by the way.” She meant it. While Xailah was not the typical image of beauty according to society, Ruby was intrigued and attracted by the peculiar, and she thought her companion truly did look pretty.

The Gryffindor asked if Ruby minded before inviting another over. “Fine by me!” she replied simply. “A friend of mine might come join us, too, I'm not sure.” Speaking of Margo, Ruby hoped she was still okay. The prefect was fairly sure that her friend could handle herself, but it wouldn't stop her from worrying and glancing over at the stands. Illowy came over before long, and Ruby was reminded again of Margo as the two Slytherins had been talking in the changing room.

“Yes, I think we've met a couple of times,” she said to Xailah before giving Illowy a courteous nod in return. She briefly noticed the other Slytherin's black veins from the curse. She did not stare, she kept her gaze moving so as not to affect the girl, but it reminded her of the darkness that marked her own leg, and there was currently no known cure. She glanced over at the fight and sighed. There's the first thing to go wrong, and probably not the last.

"Well, yours is..." Breana started. It didn't come to the young girl's mind to take a good look at her date's outfit (considering that they were having a good blast dancing the goofy song.) It wasn't a surprise that the fair-skinned pureblood can have a quite formal attire. Nevertheless, the curly-haired little dancer was still astonished as the young man gestured to his suit. Considering her lack of formal knowledge of suits, she can only guess that, upon getting a closer look at it, it was custom-made for him for balls such as this. Breana wasn't one to focus so much on wealth, but she'd be lying if she told you that she hadn't thought of how expensive it must be to have something tailor-made like Pericles's outfit. "Very... clean...?" She said, questioning her own words. "Ah, I-i mean, of course it's clean! I just... Can't find the right words... S-sugar... It's very... charming...? I guess that's the closest word I can find for it." She said, mentally cursing herself with her basic compliment.

Thankfully, the informal dance that is the macarena is a great eradicator of such awkwardness. She laughed happily as she saw Pericles mimicking her dance moves perfectly. "Well, the real song is, yeah." She said before jumping and turning to face a different direction, repeating the macarena. "But I know the Portuguese one since my dad sings it that way." She explained. Breana followed Pericles as he stopped dancing, laughing along with him as they catch their breath.

"Hm?" As Pericles held out his palm, the freckled child absentmindedly took his hand, slowly realizing that he already pulled her into a slow dance. She can feel her heart getting tied in knots, hoping to Merlin that she doesn't trip or do something clumsy with the dance. She was decent with it, though it was easy to tell that Breana was nervous about the dance. It all quickly melted away as Pericles talk again. Was his voice always this soothing? "I-i... Thank you, Pericles... " She said, her steel-blue eyes finally locking stares with Pericles's own silver ones. If he were to have looked closely, he can see a bit of brown on her iris, mostly surrounding her pupils.

She was about to open her mouth to say something, but then her head turned at the sound of someone shouting. Was a fight breaking out? Unfortunately, she doesn't know the two boys, so she wasn't sure if the fight was all that serious. Still, the boy that shouted mentioned Potter... Could he be talking about Harry Potter? She was fixated on the fight, trying to listen in if it was about the jailed wizard until she felt Pericles's hand on her, and the whisper of his voice in her ear. "Huh? Wait, wha--" With his hand still on her waist, Breana quickly followed her friend's lead as they quickly scurried to another, hopefully safe, location. She was relieved to see a familiar face in their direction. Ruby Cazares, one of the first people Breana met. Then there's the girl Pericles was talking to earlier in the first couple of minutes at the ball. She doesn't know who she was exactly, but she did look formal... maybe a friend of his in his usual circles? Hopefully the two of them can meet up with the ladies without any incident.

Arlo lacked the strength (0) to move the bag. The worn leather duffle was too heavy for the boy, he could try to pull the bag but it would only move a few inches with each mighty tug. The contents of the bag would clatter and clink, as if the bag was filled with glass.

Mary sure knew how to attract a certain type. A bit haughty, even condescending. An air of danger. Bit of an asshole. She probably liked them back, otherwise why would they swarm her like that? Eventually he would not be around to shoo them away from her and she would get hurt. This Thomas fellow gave him a bad feeling, it was not a jealous notion, Mary was like a sister to him. This guy seemed confident and unlike most willing to allow himself to be pulled away without provocation. He was willing to dance with just about anyone, strange fellow.

LeStrange's interest in Victors' bag was a concern. His want for Mary did not seem to be the usual, a relief in a way for the Slytherin. That meant that he had another interest in Mary as well as perhaps Victor. Victor could care less sharing the dancefloor with a boy, he would just much rather take Wren for a twirl. He could feel the stiffness, the strange discomfort in the deviant Slytherin that shared a single dance with the boy who would prove to be a person of interest this evening.

“I could ask you the same question.”

"None," Victor replied. "I tried to take a pretty girl out to a dance that I have hardly seen. Rather than holding her narrow hips... I seem to be holding yours." Yes, he inteded to make the boy uncomfortable. For all his sports metaphors, the boy had no interest in a carnal way towards Victor. In fact, likely the opposite. Victor had a distinct preference for women (sorry Ruka) but was confident enough in himself to be indifferent to a dance with the male. "Took you intially as some pervert bothering my friend, but here you are with me on the dancefloor," he observed. Yes, he was well aware that Thomas had no interest in Victor either.

How many?

"I work alone."

He claimed but Victor was not entirely sure if he believed Thomas. He did not seem like the forthright type but he was not going to blather on about his allies so simply or easily.

Not going to let you hurt her.

“If that were my intention, I would have done it already. She’s seen scary things, answers to a scary boy, and misplaces her trust in…the wrong people"

"So she should what... trust you?"

“I have never laid a finger on Mary, nor do I intend to…I only pried too deep. She is…emotional, you must know. How could she not be after the things she has seen?”

"Leave her alone," there was an uncharasteristic firmness in his voice. "She is fine."

He knew something, was it about what she knew. What she really saw. What she thought she knew.

“I only meant to help.”

"Bullshit," he called him out. There was a bubbling aggression that was starting to rear it's ugly head in the boy that had been seen as so passive, nervous before.

His date would arrive and cut him, addressing Thomas rather than him. Strange. He had no idea that Wren knew the undertaker he was dancing with. He was concerned, even a bit hurt. Were they working together. Planning to harass his friend, harass him. Was this still over the Potter stuff? Was this why Wren accepted his invitation? How disapointing...

You both can share a dance.

Leave the two of them together to plot. He did not have it in him to confront Wren. The unrequited affection effected the bloom in her hair and it held that sad hue. "I am sure you have much to discuss."

Victor would notice the theft of Wren's flowers and he would feel a bit queasy. Victor did not want to start something with his date's... what was she to Rafael? Rafa was acting like a jealous lover more than a friend taking her flowers, but for all he knew that was all aprt of this. It seemed as if the world was against him having a nice evening with a pretty girl that he actually wanted to be there with. It was quite possible, nay probable that she only accepted his invitation to draw him out. Once again, how disapointing...

“Oh, those were your flowers?”

"They certainly were not yours."

But of course Rafael knew that. He knew that those flowers were for Wren. Victor could not prove it, but Rafael's lie just shown him to be a shady person.

“Oh my God, I hadn’t known! You see,”

Victor's eyes watched the boy's non-verbals.

“I’d noticed Aaron hiding them… I thought he was going to give them to Lydia. My bad, really, many apologies. I’d asked my best friend to hold them for me – “

He frowned. Stealing some other guy's flowers for a girl that was also not his date. So much better. There was a single quirk about Victor that Rafael did not realize. Indeed, Victor was by nature a gentle, passive person. There was an exception to this, he had a terminal case of white knight syndrome.

“You’re welcome to get them back anytime, she was going to give them back to me anyways. As for Willow,”

He had lost track of all of the girls the Quidditch Captain was juggling. Between his date, whose flowers he had stolen. Some girl named Lydia, who he thought the flowers were for. Some other girl who was holding onto the flowers, that he might later learn was Ana Beckett. Of course that massive vase of flowers was hard to miss and was not in her posession but rather some young man's, another he did not know Dale Kurt in this complicated game of keep-away.

“she’d asked me for a dance. I’d wanted her to come along, so that I could ask Lydia if such endeavors would be okay with her. Though, she seems to have disappeared, so I suppose it doesn’t particularly matter anymore.”

She, this was Willow this time. He hammed up the expression to sadness, but that was not sadness or even guilt.

“A real shame. I’ll have to find her later…”

If he wanted to find her, he would have then and there. However the revelation only meant that he would give the girl a line sometime later, he decided to take another girl that was not his date onto the dancefloor. "Real piece of work," Victor replied.

Not that it mattered, Rafael was now dancing with Willow.

He would not see Thomas walk off to bother yet another girl, Santario while he was confronting the cad. He would not see Wren walk off and address a boy that he did not know, Gem Stuart.

He was not one to fight for himself, but he would fight for someone else. He lacked the physical prowess of most, something Marion well-knew. When Mary called out to him to drink, he reached back and took whatever she had for him. The bitter bucolic flavor ran down the back of his throat, it had a slight burn but it settled cold in his stomach.

It was then that he would notice his date assailing some guy. He did not know him, just that he had a healthy fear for his future wife date. No, it was just a game she was playing with his heart and mind. Giving him hope and ambition. It was a cruel game she played with him, perhaps not as terrible as the twisted web of lovers and jealousy that surrounded Rafael. The boy was utterly shameless.

He would draw his wand and aim it at Gem Stuart. Little did he know his date was defending the cad that was leaving some other girl likely crying in some corner right now.

"Slugulus Eructo."

If the spell caught the boy or not, he would rush over to Wren's side. "Your Rafael stole your flowers thinking they were for his date," Victor announced from behind her. The story got pretty convoluted after that, he did not understand most of it. "But now he is dancing with some girl that is not his date," she would feel a chill from behind. It was coming from Victor.

He frowned too many names. Too many alternative motives. "Not sure why you accepted if you did not want to," he sighed "but won't let this guy hurt you." He was not the vinictive sort, yet. It was beyond him that Wren might have been the initiator.

Amara had been waiting for Aurelia to explain why Wren was about to punch Gem when another person walked up and attempted to hex Gem. Amara was starting to get fed up with all of these people attacking him. She turns to Victor with a venomous look in her eyes and her tone laced with the same snake poison, "What do you all think Gem is, your personal punching bag? I do not know the whole story with D'Spacito but you would think that a guy like him- who has a literal harem of guys and girls from across all houses- would deserve some karma?"

At this point Amara was fuming, her voice kept getting lower and deadlier with each word. It took all Amara had to not physically assault Victor as she knew that all she would be doing then is lowering down to his level. Her eyes remained a dark, hardened navy as she fumed with a tense jaw and fisted hands. Amara knows Gem to be a caring and kind person, she knows that he would never purposefully hurt anyone; especially by pretending to care about them. Clearly, these people only knew Gem from the rumors surrounding him and D'Spacito and not for who he really is.

It felt like he hadn't even been a part of this for long, but he was already feeling tired and worn out. He felt like that was a fair series of emotions, and he was quite shocked he hadn't started to cry just about now; not just because of the physical altercations, but because of the lack of warmth he was used to, when he returned to the school he knew to be his home, a safety blanket. He wondered what else would go flying at him--

but he didn't have to wonder long, not when he saw a flash of green light out the corner of his eye. He was still able to stand, but he didn't know what spell it could've been, so his body jumped and got him out of the way - he only hoped some poor bugger wasn't behind him to get hit instead, but he was unsure if he had made the jump or not; he figured he ought to leave, anyway.

Whether he was vomiting slugs up or not, he reached over to pat Amara on the shoulder, a tight-lipped smile on his face, a silent thanks for her advocacy. She'd been a new friend he made upon returning back, when he was too scared to speak with his friends he'd had since the beginning. But even after that, he felt like explaining himself in a... well, messy crowd would do more harm than good. He made his exit without another word, he had to catch up for class anyway, no use in being here without having a good time.

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Interacting with @Ivy Bellamy and mentioning @Rafael D'Spacito
Dare he do so? This much would be obvious. Instead of waiting for Ivy to take the initiative, Zyk would instead do so. It was the song that was playing at the time that caused him to want to push out into the crowded dance area to make space for himself and the girl he was with. A teasing smile crossed him as she had played for him just a moment ago, taunting almost, a challenge. Casual steps were taken at first as he back-peddled into the mixture of students that crowded the pitches dance floor.

As it wasn't much of a song, a simple melody from an age that he hadn't even been born into yet. The music had a good beat though and he'd outstretch a hand to grasp the delicate grasp of Ivy's before he shifted himself to the middle of the dance floor with her, softly tugging her along as he let his shoulders roll and lids close in rhythm with the beats to be had. A continuous motion would be played throughout him as the young one did his best to dance to the style of music that was being blasted through the pitch, it wasn't what he had expected, that was for sure.

Not keen to tread upon his dates toes, he kept a decent foot from the girl as he curled his hands in and let the rhythm of the beat take over the motions of his dancing in general. It wasn't like him to just let loose in front of others besides the one instance that the head of Huffle had sporadically started singing within the great hall. Regardless though, he was not ashamed of his young moves and let it all be shown as he continued to dance with the date he was with. Lids lifted once more to gaze upon Ivy and he would hope that she'd be at least having fun with his seemingly blazing style of dance that was gifted with the music provided.

Casual glance to the side was given to the previous crowd that they had previously departed, a blur of vision was seen at that point as he noticed over the shoulder of Ivy a figure, which he gauged to be the hot-headed Rafa lunging towards a figure that he didn't recognize. At that moment Zyk had stood straight and peered over to watch the conflict. A natural step forward would be taken towards Ivy, almost protectively, in case the scuffle took its way towards the dance floor. A more stoic expression pressed upon him as the escalation of the confrontation continued. A hand would eventually come up to rest upon the shoulder of Ivy as he peered, not dancing, towards the fight.

Enough was the games that Rafa would play though, Zyk was tired of the quidditch captain's bravado, ignorance, that seemed to flare at any given moment when a crowd was gathered. A tilt of his head shifted towards the ear of his date, Ivy, "Let us get to the other side of the pitch, have fun without "that" nonsense," he whispered as gave a head nod to the altercation. Letting his hand shift between her fingers, Zykeal would grasp her hand. A flush of red came to his cheeks as he shifted away from her, trying to hide the fact that he was blushing at that time, to lead her away from the chaos and onto the party that he felt that they deserved.

Wren was overwhelmed with all the commotion that had been going on around her and involving her. All she had been trying to do was make Gem feel the pain Rafa had felt, granted this was a bit overboard, but she had to stick up for Rafa. The next thing she knew was Aurelia casting an Immobulus spell to bind her. She jumped out of the way but fell to the ground tripping over her own feet. She groaned. Her dress was going to get soiled. Oh, well she sighed, it was for a good cause .

Then an angry Victor came over and cast a spell on Gem. She rolled her eyes. He thought that Gem was hurting her.

“Dear, Dear, Victor.” She addressed him, “He wasn’t trying to hurt me. He hurt Rafa, so I felt a need to defend him. I am very loyal you see.”

He went on to tell her that Rafa had tried to steal her flowers thinking they were for his date. She figured he was lying but she wasn’t sure since he had gotten into the ball late. She felt a sudden surge of anger at the thought of Rafa trying to steal from her. She quickly pushed it down No She thought. He wouldn’t do that .

Victor asked her why she had come with her if she hadn’t wanted to go with him.

“Oh, Vic, I wanted to come with you, otherwise I would have declined. Here,”
she gave him a quick peck on the cheek. “Let’s go dance.” She picked herself off the ground, brushed herself off, and took his hand to lead him to the dancefloor.

Cokeworth. Vincent searched his mind for any reference to it, but didn't find a single one. He had definitely never heard of the town. He felt sorry for Wyatt for having to grow up in an old factory town. From what little he knew from old factory towns they were not exactly appealing and definitely not suitable for growing up in peace. That combined with the brief description Wyatt provided him with, didn't exactly make it sound like a very pleasant place. Although that, he realized, was perhaps a little biased. After all, he had no idea what it was like growing up in such a town. All based on hearsay. It would be wise to ask Wyatt about it, but now was probably not the right time to do so. As Wyatt spoke about his mother being his hero as much as Vincent's mother being his, Vincent picked up on the boy's restraint to continue the conversation about it. He sensed some bitterness, a feeling that was augmented by Wyatt's choice of words, but decided it was not up to him to inquire any further. If and when Wyatt wanted to share anything more with Vincent, he would do so and if not, well, that was perfectly alright as well. It would be best to change subjects.

He went through the options in his head. Sports, no, even better, Quidditch. After seeing his first ever Quidditch match the other day, a memorable one as far as he was concerned, Vincent found himself trying to fathom the basics of the game even more persistent than before. Not that he was looking for a position in the Ravenclaw team - yet - but it had piqued his interest. He was curious to hear what Wyatt knew about it and if he had any interest in it in the first place. He opened his mouth to ask him about it, but he closed it without having uttered a single tones he got distracted by what sounded like a noisy quarrel.

Vincent turned around facing the dance floor and saw a few students engaged in a heated argument that turned physical right at that moment. He thought he recognized one of the people involved as one of the players he had seen at the Quidditch match he attended to, the one that had been hailed like a hero, the Gryffindor captain. Though he still didn't know anything about the boy, Vincent couldn’t say he was surprised. "Really?" Vincent thought, appalled. "Not even here, at this secretly held ball, where secrecy and inconspicuousness are key, people seem capable of controlling their temper?" A crooked grin appeared on his face. "Well, some of them at least." Vincent shook his head in utter disapproval. Surely it wasn't too much to ask to behave like civilized persons for at least one evening? Apparently though it was. Vincent let out an irritated sigh, but he realized he didn't know the exact reasons for this fight, so he shouldn't judge too soon. Either way, he didn’t want to take part in this scuffle in any way, preferably not even as a spectator at the sidelines. Seeing as this looked like it could very well turn out very ugly very fast and it would most certainly herald the end of this ball, now might be a good time to act, so he spoke up. "Well, I guess this means the end of the evening." He gestured in the direction of the scuffle while addressing Wyatt. "There's no way this will go unnoticed. Let's find a place a little further away from the epicenter to avoid getting involved in any way."

"Would you two excuse me for a moment? Oh, and Dale, keep an eye on these, love,"

Dale held on to the flowers carefully, he looked up with confusion on his face, Why? Dale asked, but Ana was already gone, he watched her as she punched some guy in the face... He blinked a few times, once he fully realized what just happened his eyes eyebrows shot up in amazement, he looked over to Astrea, trying to gauge her reaction. Ana then watched her yell at another person... Dale sighed, he assumed this is when the ball would start to head south, the students of Hogwarts could never enjoy a peaceful ball...

Ana sat down in her chair again, "Ever so sorry about that." Dale just accepted that he could never understand what goes on in the mind of some people... "What did that guy do you?" Dale asked as he sat up in his seat

Cupcakes or treacle tart? Margo's eyes bore holes into the tablecloth as she pondered over the abundance of desserts in front of her. The white cloth was being particularly unhelpful towards her vexation - it remained monotonously still and didn't provoke any useful thoughts whatsoever. She would have taken both treats without a thought to spare, but a nagging voice in her head warned against having her hands full at such an event. Whilst the crowd's shifty glances and retellings of previous, ruined balls didn't faze her, she'd rather her dress remain stainless for the rest of the evening.

She sighed at the woe of having only one slice of dessert and grabbed the biggest slab of treacle tart she could see. Spinning to face the dancefloor, Margo watched the array of gracefully dancing students and- what on earth was that boy doing!?. She watched in amazement as a boy with uncommonly puffy hair lunged forwards, his body travelling at an alarming angle to the floor. Shifting to the side a little, she peered around another curious bystander get a better look at the reason for the boy's lunge- another, fairly normal looking guy. Honestly, did some people forget that they had wands? Privately, Margo thought that a knockback jinx would be a much less painful, less attention-seeking alternative to harm someone you disliked. But then there was the reason for the boy's sudden attack - Harry Potter.

"Well this will be interesting."

Now, Margo didn't know how it went in the Muggle world, but most Wizarding news stories were a mixture of word vomit and outright lies. However, the judicial system was supposed to have vastly improved since the war, and if they found someone guilty of murder, she reckoned they'd probably have some proof. Thankfully, the school's paper demonstrated that wizards were capable of making the truth interesting, and she liked to read the Headliner when it came out. Politics were meant for debating, even occasionally laughing at, not attacking, after all. She'd much rather go and talk to some interesting new people than participate in a fight, of all things.

So that's what she did. Cradling her slab of tart in her hands, she raised onto her tiptoes to search for a familiar dark head in the crowd. Thankful that Ruby was, in fact, taller than her, she started to head towards her fellow Slytherin. The girl talking to her friend was dressed spectacularly. Margo quickened her step in excitement to talk to someone with such an iconic fashion sense and sidled up to Ruby with a strangely enthusiastic grin on her face. "Wonderful evening." She commented. And it was true, in a way. She was enjoying herself immensely, regardless of the two offensive spells that had been cast and the strange boy trying to be a superhero.

Margo stumbled backwards dramatically when she saw Illowy, clutching a hand to her heart to add to her theatrical episode. "You seem to haunt me wherever I go. Is it possible that you are a ghost?" She pretended to scrutinise the girl's skin. "I detect a definite amount of translucence... are you fond of haunting castles?"

Margo whirled to face the uniquely dressed girl, the world spinning for a second at her sharp movement. "Okay, you have to tell me where you got your dress." She couldn't hold in her inner fashionista any longer. The mystery surrounding Ruby's acquaintance was too much for her to handle. She didn't know if the girl intended to attract temperamental snakes like Margo, but her curiosity was not a creature to be held back. It won the race between all her emotions, bounding ahead so that even her sarcasm couldn't catch up. Luckily, the banter she exchanged with Ruby could never lie low for long.

"Didn't know you scrubbed up so well." She smirked at the girl. "It was darker earlier, and I could've sworn there was some mud behind your ears." In reality, she was extremely fond of Ruby's long coat, and even considered asking the girl if she could borrow it at some point... it might ruin the whole teasing effect she had going on at the moment though. She'd hate for Ruby to suffer from too much kindness.
