Studying Amongst the Shelves

It is Cassie's regular shcedule to go to the library after dinner. Reading and studying in a fancy room while seeing the darkness and quietness outside the window makes Cassie feel excited and energetic. Checking her timetable, she realizes that she would be having Astronomy tonight. She takes a look at her watch. It is only six in the evening, so she has plenty of time to review and preview her lessons before class.

She walks excitedly towards the library. Ever since she entered Hogwarts, Astronomy has been her favourite subject. She remembers how she stared at the starry night sky in awe in her first Astronomy lesson. It is fabulous just to think of the countless stars far away from where we live. She performs well in the subject, putting extra effort and care into her homework. She has been an Astronomy Intern for quite a while too.

However, she frowns when she enters the library of Hogwarts-- it is way too crowded. When there are fewer students in the room, Cassie always picks an empty desk and occupies it all for herself. She enjoys studying in her own quiet corner. Today, on the other hand, she walks around the library, only to find that every single table has someone sitting beside it. It seems that she has no choice but to sit with someone else.

She starts to look for a desk by the large windows, which are always her favourite seats. She does not find any of her friends studying in the library. She does see someone she has noticed before though. A boy, a first year Ravenclaw to be precise. Cassie knows little about the boy, but she is indeed curious about him. The reason is simple. The boy seems to enjoy studying in the library as much as Cassie does, and he seems to pay much attention to his academics too.

Cassie walks to the desk he is sitting by. 'Hello.' she says in a soft voice. 'The library is just too crowded this evening, would you mind my sitting here?'

𝓐s Leo went over his notes, he found himself falling into a daze. He was usually more focused than this but he was tired from the Astronomy class the night before as he didn’t end up sleeping well afterwards and now it was haunting him all over again as he tried to continue his work. As much as he tried he couldn’t get himself to focus on the subject today, not alone. He wondered if anyone was free to study with him but he also was too prideful to admit he was having trouble with a subject when he always was working so hard to be at the top of the class like his siblings.

Of course the atmosphere of the library right now wasn’t helping since many students were studying together at other tables and he was off by himself with no help or just someone to quietly study with even. That is until he heard a voice over the other low conversations going on. Leo looked up from his books to see a girl standing there beside the table. He paused for a moment before nodding and gesturing to a free seat. “No of course not, please sit.” He said politely as he looked down at his books and tried to make sure he wasn’t taking up too much space on the table so she had room as well. He glanced at her again as she got settled and was sure he had seen her before. She was a Ravenclaw like him so he figured he probably had seen her around the common room or maybe even here in the library, as it was very fitting for Ravenclaws to be found in the library.

He couldn’t help but notice she had an astronomy book with her. She seemed like she was an older year than him, would it be horrible to ask this perfect stranger to help him with his classwork? It’s not like he was a bad student so he was sure that having someone ‘tutor’ him a little would maybe be just what he needed to get his grade up more and have a better understanding. Leo took a deep breath in before speaking up, “Excuse me,” he started, speaking somewhat softly still, “would you possibly be able to help me with my astronomy lesson? If it’s not too much trouble that is.” He asked her with a small smile hoping she would agree to help the poor boy.

After the boy agrees Cassie to sit at his desk, Cassie places her stack of book on the wooden desk and lays her parchment. Just as she is dipping her quill into her bottle of ink, she hears the young boy talk to her. Help him with his Astronomy homework? Cassie feels excited in an instant. Astronomy has always been her favourite subject, since stargazing, in her opinion, is the most romantic thing in the world.

Without hesitating, she smiles and says, 'Sure! Astronomy is my favourite subject. Let me have a look.' She says as she reads the requirements of the boy's essay. Meanwhile, she goes through the knowledge of first year Astronomy in her mind. Constellations? Did they learn about vasic observing tools likectelescopes? She wonders and opens her own Astronomy notebook. Cassie has the habit of organizing her notes of the previous years and keeping them with her in case she needs to do reviews. She also wonders how she should help the boy. Writing everything for him is never a good way. Maybe she should help him brainstorm some ideas? Or provide some unique aspects of writing the essay? She is nearly lost in her thoughts when she realizes she forgets something important.

'Oh by the way,' she says when she remembers she hasn't introduced herself yet. It is never a bad thijg to introduce oneself and get to know each other before further discussions. 'I am Cassie Jiang, a third year Ravenclaw.' Cassie says with a smile. She is also curious about the boy's name. After all, she has seen him for quite a few times at the library but has never talked to him before.
