Who needs sleep anyway?
Interacting with @Amara Dragamior
The chill in the air caused Vincent to shiver as he carefully tried to avoid all bumps and potholes on and in the path in order to avoid tripping or falling. That proved to be quite a daunting task as the light provided by the blood red moon was nowhere near sufficient to distinguish anything smaller than a tree. And as if that wasn’t enough, the bats that were nervously flying about, hunting moths or whatever nocturnal creatures they could sink their teeth in, made Vincent flinch and duck more than once, even though he knew there was no way one of them would ever crash into him. One could never be too certain, though. Better safe than sorry. He halted for a minute as he tried to follow the flight path of one of the bats that flew very close by, but couldn’t keep track. The animal was way too fast and agile too track and the fact it was as black as the night wasn’t exactly aiding Vincent either. Though not exactly his most favored type of animals, Vincent had always thought of bats as intriguing, highly sophisticated creatures. Their ability to fly, turn on a dime and hunt at full speed without touching so much as a leaf in a tree was, in his opinion, jaw dropping.
Vincent sighed and looked up to the sky, where the blood red moon momentarily hid behind a dark, ominous looking cloud, limiting his vision even more. He hardly ever cursed, he didn’t see the point nor the added value of it, but there were occasions he required a glorious amount of self-restraint to stop himself. This was one such occasion. Fighting back the urge, Vincent decided not to wait for the cloud to float off and started moving again, though this time at an even slower pace. He wouldn’t be surprised if a tortoise, had one been present, would have easily overtaken him. Smiling sarcastically at his rather cheesy joke he subsequently started to question himself. What was he doing out in the cold at four in the morning on his way to the perfect spot to watch the blood moon anyway? Sure, a blood moon was a beautiful, mysterious sight, but at this point, even though he realized in retrospect he wouldn’t have wanted to miss it, Vincent seriously doubted if it was worth all this effort. Without a camera even. Nevertheless it by far beat the alternative, which was getting back to bed and trying to sleep. That was definitely not going to happen. Not tonight. Not after again having had that worrying dream. If it indeed was one.
Vincent stubbornly kept going, all the while thinking back to earlier this night. He had gone to bed early. He had made a serious attempt to get some homework done, which in his opinion was well overdue, but he couldn’t seem to get his focus set to it. Despite the common room being completely empty, for some reason his attention kept straying from the texts in the book. Since he didn’t feel like reading the same page for the sixth time because he found he hadn’t remembered anything from it the previous five times, he decided to call it a day. It was only nine, but Vincent didn’t feel all too well, so maybe a good night sleep would prove to have a healing effect on him. And preferably his focus as well. He fell asleep soon enough, but his sleep was short-lived and far from refreshing. He had that dream again. The dream in which a whispering voice, seemingly coming from nowhere and everywhere at the same time, called his name and begged him for help. Although quite distorted, Vincent was certain the voice was female, but the dream never turned visual, so he had no proof of this. The most frustrating of it all was that there was no way to inquire about the help, because every time he tried to interact with the disembodied voice he woke up. Or returned to reality, Vincent wasn’t sure which of the two options applied. Since the dreams had started since he attended to Hogwarts he assumed it must have something to do with his mind being forced to adjust to him being capable of using magic. Or he was simply going insane. Either way the only way to soothe his confused mind was to get out of bed and go for a walk, a tactic that he had been using for years when he needed a mental moment of relaxation. And so he found himself staggering across an unpaved path on his way to the slight elevation halfway between Hogwarts Castle and the lake to gaze at the blood moon.
When Vincent was near his destination, the moon finally managed to peek from behind the cloud that had covered it most of the way, illuminating the landscape with its somewhat eerie, dim red light. Vincent cast a glance at his goal, the low slope in the terrain from which he had a perfect view of the moon’s orbit. It sure was a great spot. Then he abruptly halted. He narrowed his eyes, focusing on the very spot he was on his way to. Was there… was there someone else? Right there on the top of the slope? Watching the moon? He couldn’t believe his eyes. Sure enough, even in the dim light he distinguished a tiny figure sitting on the top, face aimed at the moon. Vincent hesitated. He made it this far, so he didn’t really feel like returning without at least having caught a glimpse of the, admittedly, beautiful blood moon. The view from where he stood was already awe-inspiring, from the top of the slope it was undoubtedly even more spectacular. On the other hand, he didn’t want to be rude and disturb whoever was up there. Considering the time of day, he or she probably had a very good reason to be out here and Vincent wasn’t the type to intrude.
Vincent considered his options and decided to proceed towards the person that had the best seat in the house. Perhaps they could watch together. He approached carefully, but made sure he made some noise, so he wouldn’t scare whoever was up there half to death when he suddenly appeared. As he got closer he noticed the lone figure was a girl. She had long hair, that seemed an intriguingly dark red due to the moon’s light. Other features remained hidden in the dim light, although she seemed quite short to Vincent. As he was halfway up the slope, the girl apparently heard him coming, because she turned her head in his direction and looked straight at him. Vincent stopped, raised a hand and started to talk to her, softly smiling. “Hello. I hope I’m not interrupting anything? I couldn’t sleep and wanted to take the opportunity to watch this beautiful blood moon. Do you mind me joining you? You have found the perfect spot.”

Who needs sleep anyway?
Reducio
Backdated- May 1st
It was another one of those nights, Amara took her muggle and magical medication to try to erase the nightmare and insomnia but it did not work. It didn't help, of course, that tonight marked 6 years since it happened. Amara spent the late evening doing classwork, reading, and trying to write but none of those things helped. While Amara loves the Slytherin common room and community, she despises being underground and not getting to see the sky and breath fresh air. Amara checked the time and decided to venture outside and get some fresh air. Amara grabbed a sweatshirt and put a thermos of tea, her wand, her notebook, and some bandages, and salve in a bag before she snuck out of the common room.
Amara walked out to the grounds and found a nice patch of grass near the lake and noticed that tonight, the moon was blood red. She took a long sip of tea and started to apply the salve to her scar. Just as Amara was finishing up she heard a twig break and swung her head over to look at whatever or whoever was joining her. She adjusted her hair to cover her scar as the tall figure, her guess was a 2nd or 3rd year, started to speak
Amara looked back up at the figure and grabbed her wand "Lumnos" she whispered while starting to look at the boy. She quickly realized that it was one of the first year Ravenclaws who she had yet to meet yet, "Hello," she smiles at him "And please, come sit. It would be nice to have someone explain to me why the moon is bright red"“Hello. I hope I’m not interrupting anything? I couldn’t sleep and wanted to take the opportunity to watch this beautiful blood moon. Do you mind me joining you? You have found the perfect spot.”

@Amara Dragamior
The girl didn’t seem too surprised or annoyed with him appearing out of thin air so suddenly. She hastily adjusted her hair right after she turned her head towards him, but nothing in her initial attitude suggested irritation or shock. Vincent looked a little closer at the girl awaiting her response to his rather bold question. Still not able to distinct any detailed characteristics he could only establish that his earlier assessment about her height seemed quite accurate. Vincent could see she was dressed in a sweat shirt, but of its color he had no idea. The reddish light the moon reflected back to the earth seemed to give everything a hue that completely differed from its original color, so all he could do was guess. He guessed it was blue, but in all honesty it could have been almost every color.
Not that it mattered in any way, Vincent had learned never to judge a book by its cover very early in his life, so it was of no importance how she was dressed, or even what she looked like for that matter. He just had to keep his mind going to avoid it from straying to less appealing things. It looked like she had made herself comfortable in the long, soft grass and seemed to have come prepared. Vincent noticed an open bag resting at her side and a thermos sitting next to it. Its cap had been screwed off and filled with its contents, based on the steam that rose from it before evaporating into the cold night air it must have been filled with tea. Vincent couldn’t help but thinking she had thought this through a whole lot better than he did, bringing something warm to drink.
On a whim he had simply put on his clothes, slipped into his boots, pulled his cloak over his head and ran out unprepared, thus exposing himself to the still rather chilly nights that were not exactly uncommon at this time of year. He hadn’t cared about anything than to get away from his bed at that moment. That was definitely something to consider if these midnight strolls were to become a more habitual event. Vincent hoped they wouldn’t, but he suspected that was a severe case of wishful thinking. Deep down inside he knew the only way to prevent those dreams from ever occurring again was to fully commit to them and try to figure out it was he was meant to do. Or never to sleep again, but that was, for obvious reasons, not an option.
His thoughts were, gladly, interrupted as the girl, now pleasantly smiling, spoke up, inviting him to sit with her and explain about the blood moon. Vincent gratefully accepted the offer. She seemed like a nice girl and, in all honesty, he was in dire need of some pleasant company. He cautiously climbed up the slope, making sure he didn’t slip and roll back down. To his relief he made it all the way up unscathed. He picked a spot in the lush grass next to the petite girl and as he sat down he offered her his hand. “Please allow me to introduce myself properly.” he said softly, his lips curled up in a smile. “I am Vincent. It’s a pleasure to meet you and many thanks for allowing me a spot in the front row seats.” Vincent’s smile widened as he gestured towards the intensely red moon. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”

Amara nods, she is impressed by the boy's mannerism; it is not nearly as stiff as some of the uppity Slytherins, which makes it feel more real. Amara takes Vincent's hand to shake "I am Amara and why should I deny anyone a view of one of the few things no one can claim ownership too. But yeah, the moon, it is beautiful." She picks up the tea, and since earlier she noticed him looking at it, she hands it to him, offering a sip. Amara adjusts her position so her scar is as hidden as possible and glancing down, Amara notices that she has yet to put the bandages and salve back in her bag. She hastily shoves them back into her bag and turns back to Vincent, "I have lived in urban London all my life so I have never been able to pay much attention to astronomy before so how does to beautiful coloring happen?"“Please allow me to introduce myself properly.” he said softly, his lips curled up in a smile. “I am Vincent. It’s a pleasure to meet you and many thanks for allowing me a spot in the front row seats.” Vincent’s smile widened as he gestured towards the intensely red moon. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
Amara had been wondering for the past while why the moon was red, and it seemed as if Vincent understood it; maybe because he is a Ravenclaw or maybe just because of how he keeps looking at the moon in awe. While Amara originally came outside for some fresh air and to treat the curse appropriately, she did not expect anyone to join her. While having company is nice and part of her wishes to share the burden of tonight with someone, Amara still fears how he will react if Vincent sees what happens every year on this night.

She seemed to react rather coolly to his introduction, both non-verbally with a nod, as verbally with a rather neutral vocal reply. Vincent couldn’t shake the feeling she wasn’t here for the beautiful sight at all and she most certainly hadn’t expected anyone to run into her here. Perhaps she preferred to be alone but didn't want to be rude to him. Nevertheless her subsequent action somewhat contradicted this, as she offered him the warm cup of tea she picked up from next to her. “Thank you.” Vincent accepted the gesture with a grateful smile. He wasn’t really thirsty, but the heat radiating from the cup warmed his fingers that by now resembled icicles more than anything else, despite the temperature being nowhere near freezing point. As Amara handed him the cup she adjusted her position slightly. In itself not particularly striking or out of the ordinary, but since it seemed as if she turned herself away from him, Vincent wondered what it meant. Right at the same time she looked down and secretively put something in her bag. Or at least so it seemed. However, the movement was ever so subtle, Vincent couldn’t be certain about what he had seen. Or not had seen. Maybe she had tried to hide something from him, something that she didn’t want him to see, or maybe it was just a figment of his imagination. Not that it would actually make a difference, if she indeed hid something from him she had every right to do so.
Amara immediately turned her attention back to him, asking him about the blood moon. Vincent, a little surprised at the question, took his eyes off the moon and looked Amara in her eyes. There was something about this girl Vincent couldn’t immediately grasp. Perhaps it was just the simple fact she was out here in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. Sure, that was an interpretation, his interpretation, but still. Either way, he sensed there was more to this girl than met the eye. As he wasn’t the type to run form a difficult or unpredictable encounter and since the girl seemed genuinely friendly, though perhaps somewhat distant, Vincent accepted the fact he couldn’t fully fathom what moved her and tell her what he knew about the blood moon. He smiled at her, handed her the cup with the tea and started to talk.
“Well, I didn't exactly finish top of my class where it comes to astronomy to be honest, but I’ll tell you what I know about it, or better what I remember about it. I’m not much of a teacher, so if I stop making sense or don’t make any sense at all, please stop me.” His smile widened. “Anyway, if I remember correctly a blood moon, which is actually a lunar eclipse, happens when the sun, the earth and the moon align exactly, leaving the moon devoid of direct sunlight. However, due to refraction and the fact every color in the spectrum refracts differently, some of the colors, the ones with the shortest wave lengths, still reach the moon. These are the reddish colors which explains the moon’s peculiar hue.” Vincent, who had stared at the moon while he spoke, shifted his gaze back to Amara and smiled somewhat shyly at her. “It is a lot less mystical once you know the science behind it, right?" he said. "Did I make any sense at all?”

Amara winced as Vincent spoke, she wanted to pay attention, she wanted to learn but it was becoming harder to focus when her scar was re-opening. She did her best to nod along and listen, he seemed like a nice guy and she did not want to be out-right rude to him, "I think the science makes it more mystical than anything," she smiled back at him, "Its the one thing I do not like about magic, that so many witches and wizards just ignore science when really we could do so, so much with it."“Well, I didn't exactly finish top of my class where it comes to astronomy to be honest, but I’ll tell you what I know about it, or better what I remember about it. "Did I make any sense at all?”
Amara holds back a groan as the wound finishes opening. What was a faint scar is now a massive gash running across her face diagonally. Amara realizes that she cannot hide it anymore and pulls her hair up. She wipes away some of the blood with her sweatshirt sleeve and hands the bandages to Vincent, avoiding eye contact "Would you mind holding onto these for me?" Amara asks him.
She hates the idea of people knowing about her- it, but she had never treated it before by herself and while she could have managed, it was nice having someone to help. Regardless, Vincent does not seem like the gossip type or even the judgmental type so Amara felt somewhat secure in her decision.

Vincent pondered Amara’s remark that she, contradictory to his opinion, thought knowing the science behind the phenomenon called blood moon in fact made it more mystical. He agreed the use of science could implemented to a much greater extent in the magical world, in the muggle world as well to be honest, but he couldn’t really see how that would make things more mystical. In this specific case knowing the blood red color originated from the refraction of light seemed pretty clinical, cold to him. No more mystery there, although it would be an interesting concept to figure out why phenomena like this one caused so many people acting peculiarly when there was a perfectly rational explanation for it. Vincent thought it an interesting point to discuss with Amara, he was curious to hear her vision on it. She spoke up first though.
"Would you mind holding onto these for me?"
While uttering these words Amara handed Vincent a messy ball of cloth, that looked like some sort of bandages. Too surprised to even react, he took the bandages from her and watched her as she swiped her hair from her face. The smile on Vincent's face froze instantly as his brain tried to process what his eyes saw happening. It couldn't. What he saw left him pretty much at a loss for words. The huge, bloody gash stretching diagonally across her face, that seemed to have suddenly appeared out of thin air, was too much for his brain to comprehend. Vincent, shocked at the sight, fought to keep his cool and remained silent as he accepted the fact there was no way he could explain this. That wasn’t just there, was it? He needed a few seconds to gather his thoughts and regain the logic and reason in his mind, realizing right at that exact moment he had to do something, say something, anything, just react in any way. Preferably something that actually made sense. But what? What was one supposed to say at a moment like this, when one had just witnessed something beyond comprehension.
"Are... are you alright, Amara?" He finally stuttered. Of course, why not? Seriously. He felt nothing short of an idiot. So many options, so many things he could have said to reassure her, to comfort her, to show his compassion even, despite not knowing her at all, and this is what he came up with... are you alright. He scoffed at himself for being so inattentive, so inconsiderate towards Amara. Of course she was not alright! Who would be when something like this happened to them? He knew he certainly wouldn’t. Vincent tried frantically to recover from this stupid screw up. "I... Sorry… I… I mean, that looks painful, is there anything I can do to help you?"

@Vincent d'Arque
Amara gives Vincent a tight-lipped smile as she started to apply the bandages. Vincent stutters out some kind words, offering to help her in any way he could. Amara closed her eyes, trying to get over the pain before she spoke "Yeah it is pretty painful, and can you just... stay? Keep me company?" Amara is shocked by the fact that those last words even came out of her mouth, this has always been a solitary event- just with her fathers.
Amara continues to apply the bandages while holding back screams or yelps of pain. Her eyes start to well and tears start to fall, but she does her best to ignore it all. She knows that the Ravenclaw's wheels are spinning in his brain, she can all but see the gears and starts to feel guilty, "I-I know you want this to be explained to you but I just can't right now. Is that okay?" Amara's voice cracks, she hates how insensitive she must be coming off right now, asking someone who has no idea what is going on to help; she feels so selfish. Amara groans and looks towards Vincent with big, apologetic eyes. She hopes that he is not squeamish about blood.

@Amara Dragamior
Now that the impact of the initial shock had subsided and reason got the upper hand again, Vincent’s next reaction was a primal one. Of course. The one that usually rears its ugly head first. The urge to run, fed by a natural fear of the unknown and potential threats, had easily won the initial battle that determined control of his mind. As it would with anyone with half a brain that found themselves in a similar situation. However, Vincent refused to allow his body to obey. He had never been one to easily back away from a difficult situation and even though this one seemed to be way beyond his comprehension and most likely well out of his league, he wasn’t about to change that now. He relied on his down to earth attitude and his open mind to deal with this one way or the other. This wasn't the first inexplicable situation he had found himself in lately, although this one was hands down one of the most worrying, if not the most worrying. So he remained rooted to the spot, unsure about his next course of action.
Vincent watched Amara apply bandages to the wound, trying to stop the profuse hemorrhaging. The tint of the blood that, in the reddish light of the moon, had a mysteriously blackish, illuminating hue, left him strangely mesmerized. Realizing he was actually staring, Vincent turned his head away in shame, but immediately refocused his gaze on Amara. He didn’t want her to get the idea he was scared or, even worse, appalled with what he saw. He wasn’t. All he felt at the moment was compassion. He could only imagine the horror and pain she must be going through at the moment.
Still clueless as to what exactly happened to her and, perhaps even more worrying, why, he just sat there on his hands, feeling pretty much useless. His mind slowly, but surely wandered off. Although he knew about the science behind the phenomenon of eclipses, this gruesome scene coincidentally happening on the night of the blood moon slightly confused him. Perhaps, no, not perhaps, apparently science did not provide all the answers and explanations after all. Before he realized it Vincent found himself caught up in a complicated thinking pattern. Too complicated at the time, so he shook off the thought again. He had much more pressing matters to attend to than trying to find the answer to the age old enigma of fact, fiction and that which the simple human brain cannot fathom. Amara.
As Amara closed her eyes, Vincent could almost scoop the horror from her face. Whatever process she was forced to go through at the moment, it was an incredibly painful one. Vincent knew that, even if it felt just half as painful as it looked, it had to be excruciating. The bandages she meticulously applied didn't seem to offer any relief at all, from what it looked like they merely stopped the bleeding, or rather only slowed down the flowing of her blood. Despite her clear agony, she still managed to throw Vincent a thin smile, asking him to just stay and keep her company. Vincent didn’t have to think about that and without hesitation he hastily nodded in agreement. "I’ll be here, don’t worry." he replied. "I might be freaking out a little, but I’m pretty sure I can handle it. I'll be here.”
Vincent wasn’t sure if Amara had heard what he said as she didn’t reply. The ordeal seemed to take a turn for the worst. Despite the bandages the bleeding didn’t stop and her torment forced tears to well up in her eyes. She was obviously trying to keep a brave face, but the pain was too intense. She turned her head towards him and he locked eyes with hers. Did he... did he really discern a look of apology, perhaps even guilt in her eyes? That couldn't be. Why would she feel guilty towards him? Although she obviously knew this was going to happen, or at least expected it to happen, hence the bandages, that still didn’t call for an apology whatsoever. It's not that she had invited him here or could have expected someone to be around in the dead of the night in the middle of nowhere.
For a second Vincent considered the possibility of it being a deliberate action, but discarded the thought the very same moment he conjured it up. He was convinced there was no way this was a set-up. However, in the unlikely event of it being a deliberate action after all, the thought evoking a slight feeling of unease in his mind, he could never justify simply turning his back and walk away from her. Not now, not in this situation. At that moment Amara herself enlightened him, ending his insecurity. It was not about intent, there was no foul play. Nothing even remotely like that. Despite her pain and distress, she recognized his feelings and took them into account, asking him if was okay if she’d explain it all later. Vincent needed a few seconds to fully comprehend the value of this unexpected act of undisputed selflessness before he replied. "Don't worry about that, Amara, or about me for that matter." Vincent said, softly smiling. "You are in no way obliged to explain anything. Most certainly not at this very moment. You have more than enough to deal with right now. Just make sure you attend to your... wound..."

Amara groans out again as she gives Vincent a tight smile, "Thank you, for staying and just... understanding"
Now that her face has been covered, Amara lays down on her back and stares up at the stars and moon. She takes slow, shallow breaths. Amara does everything she can to ignore the pain, "This should be over in the next hour or so," Amara says this as she looks over to Vincent who has a mix of fear and compassion on his face. She can practically feel his unease coming off of him in waves, "Would you be willing too.." she trails off as a large droplet of blood lands on her lips. Amara winces and wipes it off with a spare bandage before continuing, "Would you be willing to talk, I do not really care about what I just need a distraction" Amara adjusts her position on the ground to keep her hair out of the way. It fans out around her like a halo, one with a red tint considering the blood and shading of the moon. She moves her eyes away from the night-sky and towards Vincent who still looks insanely worried. Amara bites her lip, not knowing what to say.
