How embarrassing it was. She sat on the bench near The Great Lake and looked out at the smooth water. There was no wind, no ripples in the water to even keep her company. She was all alone, now more than ever.

Alina was convinced she had been placed into the wrong house at Hogwarts and had been very vocal about it. She embarrassed herself in front of the entire school. Even her sister was upset because being identical twins, people were mistaking Bella for Alina and getting snippy with her for her remarks earlier at the sorting ceremony.

She had been sitting there for going on her second hour when a soft wind blew and she looked up. There, slowing walking out of a grove of trees was a small red fox. She froze in place. She was accustomed to seeing birds and squirrels but this was the first time she saw a fox in something other than photos! Slowly she stood, just a basic reaction and the furry creature paused in place. “I’m sorry!” She said to it and reached out her hand then froze again. “I didn’t mean to startle you. It’s okay. I’m alone. ...Completely and entirely alone.” She lowered her head, feeling as though the creature wouldn’t even want to be around her.

But then she heard it walk by, rustling some of the fallen leaves, and her attention was peaked again. She watched as it lowered its head to take a drink of water from the lake. It then lifted its head and turned around. She expected it to leave but it surprised her by coming right up to her and lowering its head again, this time placing its muzzle within her hand. She touched the warmth of the animal and smiled. “Hi there, guy. I’m not going to hurt you. Look how amazing you are!” The fox allowed her to stroke the top of his head but when another gust of breeze came and rustled the leaves of the trees, it perked up and rushed back into the forest.

Amazed by the beautiful creature, Alina sat back down and pulled a notebook out of her bag where she sketched a drawing of what she just saw in every detail possible.

She smiled and looked around, hoping maybe it would come back but no; she was alone.

Phoenix grabbed her books and walked to the library to study. Halfway to the library, she stopped her steps. Admiring the scenery behind the window. It looked like it came from a painting. The colors were bright. The weather looks perfect. A pleasant day to be outside and to get fresh air. Why stay inside? She thought for a moment, if she should go or not. Debating if she should relax or study. With that beautiful weather, she decided that she will be fine to relax for one day.

She first went to the courtyard. The courtyard was filled with students. Some were chatting, others were playing gobstone or chess. Sadly, the courtyard was not quiet enough for Phoenix to relax. Her feet carried her towards the lakes. When Phoenix stepped outside, Phoenix felt the sun. The sun felt wonderful against her skin. She wished everyday felt like this. Phoenix walks towards the lake, and she sees a girl sitting near the lake. The girl was drawing a fox. It was a beautiful to see human and creature interact so peacefully. Phoenix walked closer to lake and realized the girl was a fellow Hufflepuff. She stood there and debated once again if she should go back to the castle and stay here. After forty seconds, Phoenix decided to talk to the girl. Phoenix gently tapped the girl's shoulder and said, "Hi, do you mind if I sit here?"

With peace and love.

She had been just fine sitting there along the Lake by herself. She didn't need little chats, longer conversations, games, fun, or friends. No, she was just fine on her own with herself and her thoughts.

When she heard the girl's voice it irritated her. Did she MIND if she sat? Yes, she did mind. Didn't she see she was busy? Alina glanced up to the girl and went on with her drawing without saying a word at first. However, this wasn't the grounds of her estate, it was the grounds of Hogwarts and it wasn't as if she had any say at all who went where.

She then realized she wasn't alone and Alina quickly looked to her bag to make sure her Hufflepuff uniform time was hidden away out of sight. She took it off every chance she could so not to broadcast her house. It was rather silly though because as the girl had recognized Alina, Alina recognized this girl for being in many of her classes as a fellow Hufflepuff so she probably already knew.

And Alina should be happy that someone in the school, especially a fellow Hufflepuff, was even talking to her. She had made a right fool of herself at the sorting ceremony, insulting the masses. It was bad when even the Hufflepuffs didn't really want to talk to you.

"Sure, whatever. Sit," she muttered to the girl and closed her notepad. Her drawing was stupid. Since coming to Hogwarts it seemed everyone had talents and they were all far better than any she thought she had.

Do forgive Alina's cold demeanor, haha. I am open to any and all interaction and would love a reply back. I'm just trying to keep her in character because she's cold to people at first.

When the girl glanced up at Phoenix, Phoenix recognized her. The girl was in a couple of the same classes as her, but she knew the girl from elsewhere. The girl's name is Alina. The other Hufflepuffs talked about Alina for being vocal about her thoughts at the sorting ceremony. Phoenix had nothing against Alina, nor she did not understand the gossip either. In fact, it impressed her. She thought it was cool to openly express one's opinion, especially with that many students in one room. It takes confidence.

She stared at Alina, and her drawing as she continued with her drawing without saying a word. Phoenix wondered if she was not loud enough. She looked at Alina's drawing. The drawing was pretty. It captured everything about the lovely fox. Phoenix tapped her index finger with her thumb, an old habit of hers. Waiting. She felt a little nervous. Finally, the girl spoke, pulling Phoenix out of her thoughts. Phoenix sat down, keeping a comfortable distance between her and Alina. She gently put her books down next to her. Alina's stiff demeanor took Phoenix off guard. "Thank you." Phoenix cleared her throat, "Bad manners. I forgot to introduce myself. I am Phoenix, and you are?" Phoenix decided to not bring up that she already knew the girl's name. It probably sucks having classmates talk behind one's back. She did not want to add onto that pile.

Do not be sorry :-) It is all good!

With peace and love.

It was times like this that she wanted to pretend to be her identical twin sister. Would anyone really know? She could say that she was Bella, and be the Slytherin she wished to be if only for this moment and to this girl. She could not be the girl the insulted so many.

But it really wasn't worth it. Lying just meant you had more to remember because not only did you have to remember details about your actual life, you now had to remember details of your lies. Alina took out a lemon drop from her bag and waited a moment before placing it in her mouth. She loved lemon drops, they were one of her most favorite things.

"Alina," she spoke. She felt rather bad for being so short with the girl who even acknowledged her own not-so-bad manners and here she was being short and snippy with her. Plus, she had a pretty cool name. Phoenix. A lot better than Alina.

"Alina Rosier," she said again. "And I suppose anyone can come out here to the Lake at any time, really." It was her cold way of saying 'sure, it's no problem that you sit here' without actually saying it.

Phoenix noticed the lemon drop that Alina pulled out of her bag. Lemon drops were not Phoenix's favorite. Phoenix has a slight taste for candy. Most candies were way too sweet for her. Phoenix preferred bitter candy. Usually, Phoenix does not bother with eating candy.

When Phoenix heard Alina's voice, she felt relieved. Phoenix did not want to be a bother. Perhaps Phoenix had a slight fear of rejection. She adjusts herself to be more comfortable by straightening her back as it was slouching beforehand. Looks forward again, viewing over the lake. It felt nice. Phoenix makes a mental note that she should visit the lake more often. The lake is an enjoyable place to visit. It is peaceful. Nothing felt better than being one with nature. She turned her head towards Alina again. "Nice to meet you, Alina." she paused, "I guess so, the lake is lovely. I have not seen many people here. That might be because this is only my second time visiting. Is there a particular reason of why you are here? Or here to just relax." After Phoenix said that, she yelled at herself in her mind. Why would she ask that? Phoenix did not need to question her, she could have chosen any other question to ask.

With peace and love.

Why was she there? It was simple, really. It was beautiful and it was peaceful, probably the very same reason Phoenix herself was there. Then again, she would probably be in the corridors or the courtyard if she had a group of friends to spend her time with she would probably be with them on that very evening.

"I like the Lake," she answered as she looked out. It truly was more like an ocean than a lake as you couldn't see any land on the other side. It was vast and dark and deep and let one gaze upon it and their thoughts wandered. It brought her peace even when there was a storm inside.

"Well, when I'm not IN the Lake," she laughed a little, thinking back to her one adventure. "Don't. Don't ever. That water is freezing and when I say freezing I mean terribly cold, frigid cold, colder than anything you've experienced in your life - cold." She was rambling but that was one of the things that Alina Rosier did best and it was nice for the moment to have someone to ramble to.

"What're you studying?" she now asked of the girl. "Crazy how many classes we have first year, but I'm liking it - learning the different areas of magic."

Phoenix was glad the conversation did not go downhill because of her question. She listened to Alina carefully, nodding her head every now or then. As Alina told Phoenix not to jump in the water, Phoenix imagined herself jumping in and freezing. Phoenix move her shoulders, shaking off that idea. It would be an awful idea, a hundred percent. She makes another mental note to never jump in the lake, unless she has a death wish. She enjoyed Alina's ramble about the lake. Phoenix loves when people ramble. It is interesting to see them talk.

Phoenix replied to Alina's question, "I am studying for Defence Against the Dark Arts. I suck at it. It makes little sense, but not much. I would prefer if everyone lived in peace and in a small and cute mushroom shaped homes." World peace is all Phoenix wanted, along with some recent books that she has not got her hands on yet. Phoenix did not see the hype of Defence Against the Darks Art. It is important to defend yourself, but it would have been nicer if world peace was a thing. "Yeah, I am still get a bit overwhelmed but as time goes on, I will adjust. I am glad you are enjoying it. If you had to chose, what is your favorite subject?"

World peace and mushroom houses? This girl truly was a Hufflepuff if she ever met one.

"I can't choose. I favor Herbology and Potions myself," and was really interested in the healing aspects of both. "I'm quite awful when it comes to Transfigurations. I'm not sure exactly why but it just seems so off to me." Turning things into other things. And she was of magic and had been around it her whole entire life. She could only imagine how weird it was for those that hadn't.

"But it's nice, nonetheless. I'm surprised the castle has as much charm as it does, being so old."
And her first impression of it wasn't one of elegance at all but she liked her dorm well enough. "It's all a bit of an adjustment I suppose, no matter who you are and I suppose none of us have really seen anything like it." She wished she could share the differences with her twin sister Bella but that wasn't happening just yet. She was adjusting to her Slytherin lifestyle and Alina was there to suffer in all the Hufflepuff-ness.

She also missed home, but she didn't. It was hard to explain. "Where are you from?"

"I agree, transformation rubs off on me in a wrong way. It could be because I am a muggle-born so maybe I do not understand it,” she sighs. Transformation is a bit weird. Phoenix did not like when she had to turn animals into objects. It was somewhat against her morals; she believed animals are equal to humans. She tried her best to understand that it was a needed skill or that the animals were not being harmed. That it is okay and normal to do this in the wizarding world. She hoped their feelings did not get hurt when the animals transforms.

Phoenix adored the castle’s architectural style. It made her feel like she was a part of a movie. Everything about the castle was aesthetically pleasing to her. Her jaw dropped the first time she saw the castle.

“I am from Sussex, England. Now if I think about it, I miss home. What about you? Where are you from? Have you been missing your family?”

Phoenix misses her parents. She has not been thinking about them much as she only thinks about school, lately. She felt guilty for not keeping them in her thoughts. Phoenix still misses them though. She misses her father the most. He hasn’t written a letter yet, he is probably trying to figure out what to write. Father always hated writing letters. She wonders how her mom and dad is doing.

With peace and love.
