And everything else goes away.
Code by Fawkes Chaos She definitely wasn't supposed to be here.
But, as she walked slowly across the bridge, one foot in front of the other, right at the edge, her shoes quietly stepping, she didn't care at all.
It was good to be out again. Mikaela would probably wake up with her feet killing her, a headache and a lot of stolen sleep hours, but who could ever tell?
That's how The Wraith worked: Reckless. Stubborn. And sometimes, yeah, stupid.
It took a certain level of stress for her to show up. Like the time Mika ruined a potion and then She had to come out that night and do one of her night patrols. Or the time a guy bumped her and didn't even apologize. She had to take it on her own hands by leaving her a note, carefully written with her right hand, telling him all the ways he sucked.
She hummed as she sat at the edge, her feet swinging over the void below her. Inside her mind, Mika screamed, terrified. She just smiled.
If any teacher or prefect saw her, from the distance and thanks to her tiny body, they'd only think that it was a big owl. Or just a random shadow.
She laughed. A shadow. That's what she was. Mikaela's shadow.
After all, she was the one who'd always been there. The one who knew her better. She knew who she loved and hated.
And how much sorrow can live in the eyes of a twelve year old kid.
She hummed. Tonight was boring. The last time she came out, she had seen a couple making out (disgusting) and almost saw a couple of prefects. Nothing bad.
But Mika had been stressed today. And yesterday. And, being fair, the whole week.
A glance at the clock. Ten minutes before the next round. Good.
Staring at the view, she wondered why Mikaela was like that. Why she let being a prodigy control her. Why she made it a part of her personality.
It wasn't bad. She shouldn't hide it.
But again, she was stupid. And someone needed to take care of her. And that someone was going to be Her.
She stayed there a few more minutes, thinking about stupid girls and their sorrow, when she looked at the clock again.
And, before the next prefect passed by, she vanished leaving no trace.
No one but a small hair tie. The one Mika used for her braid. The one she knew Mika would recognize immediately.
After all, she thought while she slipped through the rooftops of the castle, her father was right: It was about time for Mikaela to act like a normal child.
And nowadays, what kind of child doesn't break a few silly rules every now and then?
