Sorting Hat
The great hall buzzed with chatter and cheers and laughter as more and more first years of Hogwarts get sorted into their houses. Names of students and houses were a blur of celebration and cheers from every house.
One by one the newcomers went to their houses' long tables and sat in their seats. Elara looked around the Hall. The ceiling of the Great Hall resembled a starry night sky with clouds. It looked alike the real night sky but it was all magic.
Elara hadn't seen much use of magic as her family lived in a 'Muggle' city with her mother. Seeing magic being openly used was a sight she rarely saw. It was going to take some time to get used to this but-
"Hawthorne Elara!" The Headmistress/Headmaster called out. Elara almost jumped out of being caught off guard. Elara turned her head and quickly and gracefully made her way to the sorting hat. She took her seat and the hat went above her head alike all the other students.
"Another Hawthorne? I feel as if I have just sorted the last one out. A bloodline of Ravenclaws through and through, yes... You have the nerve of a Gryffindor when upset yet the power to read the Ravenclaw library twice over... but you want to prove yourself worthy... you have the traits of a Slytherin. Difficult to sort, difficult indeed. Well, better put you in... SLYTHERIN!" The Sorting Hat announced loudly to the students and witches and wizards to the entire Great Hall.
Clara Hawthorne froze over at the Ravenclaw table. She was getting ready to cheer, to celebrate for her younger sister becoming a Ravenclaw but it seems like she wouldn't get to.
The Slytherin table erupted in cheers.
For dear Elara on the other hand, time hiccuped. There was no way she was a Slytherin, her entire family, entire bloodline, were Ravenclaws, not a single one was out of place. The first, and maybe the last, Slytherin of all Hawthornes'.
Elara swallowed hard, standing up from the seat and walking towards the Slytherins' long table as the next students name was called up front.
