Off to the Races
Sabrina's snicker as Reid gave into her threat was hard to miss. She nestled herself further into her corner of the couch, and took a bit of her sandwich. It was probably one of the best things that her mother could ever make. Sabrina was a total sucker for sandwiches, especially with Honey Dijon mustard, lettuce, ham, turkey, mozzarella and cheddar? Oh god. She could just die for these.
"What was this again? Ant Farm?"
The girl's red hair whipped around a bit as she turned her head to look at Reid. Her shoulders shrugged up, and she didn't respond until she had fully finished the bite of sandwich in her mouth. "I think so. I don't really watch it much." She mentioned. She didn't watch much television at all, actually. She would rather study up on anything she could find in her house relative to magic. It was kind of a habit of her's. She hoped she wouldn't get sorted into Ravenclaw for that - she always wanted to be Gryffindor. She wasn't sure why, but red was just.. appealing to her.
"Oh did you know, I practiced riding my bike over the summer. You owe me a race, Hurst."
This caught Sabrina's attention again, and a wide grin spread across her face. The two hadn't raced on their bikes in months, but you could bet your last galleon that the fiery redhead was as confident as ever in her riding skills. She had insisted on bringing her bike with her to her father's, and she had rode it all around - wherever she could! The mention of racing made her excited, and she quickly finished her sandwich. Taking the time to swallow it correctly, of course.
"You still have your bike right?"
"Of course I have my bike, you dweeb!" Sabrina lightly slapped the dark-haired boy's shoulder with the back of her hand before she took her plate, leaning forward to put her plate on the table. A good distance away from Reid's feet, in case he decided that he wanted to kick it off. Which she doubted he would be able to, his legs were shorter than her's, even. Her mother did insist that he would grow at some point, though. Sabrina was still waiting for that day to come around.
"Come on, let's go! I bet I can still beat you with that, too!" She teased as she hopped up from the couch. She raced through the house carelessly, and tugged open the garage door (after a single failed attempt due to excitement). Her bike was leaned up against the wall, parallel to her mother's small car. She descended the stairs, and made her way to the old-fashioned bike. It was one with large tires, and a basket in the front. She adored it. It was a baby blue, even, and that was probably Sabrina's favourite colour at the moment.

Reid wiped some sauce off his jeans, not hesitating to stick his finger in his mouth. He made a noise as she slapped his shoulder, earning her a short glare from him. That hurt, a little. There was never really a real moment that he's ever been angry with her. Even in the heat of the moment, it was flashes of anger that would die quicker than it came. Maybe it was the fact that he knew how she was and that was enough to convince him otherwise.
He continued to eat till he realized what she was doing. "Hey!" Reid barked, practically shooting up from the soda. He was going to lose, again! The sandwich in his hand started to get stuffed into his mouth, a true gentlemen. He chewed it as he bolted from the door and chose to forget his shoes on the way out. At least he had the courtesy of closing the door, gently of course. This time, he'd win this race - with only socks most of all! Some of the bread and its contents hard fallen out of his mouth as he propped his bike up.
"See you at the end of the finish line, Hurst!" he hollered. The boy seethed as he bumped his toe on the frame before pulling himself onto the bike. Any more injuries and he might just end up bursting into tears, his toes were sensitive. Reid pushed himself forward and out of the driveway, taking off in the same direction as he did before. He didn't see if Sabrina was behind him and he wished he discussed the terms of where they exactly were going to stop. Maybe he could just keep going till she gave up. Where was she? This had the boy look over his shoulder to see where his friend went.

Off to the Races
It didn't take too long for the short, redheaded girl to pedal out of the garage, after Reid. She had laughed at his taunt, knowing full well that she was confident in her own victory of this race. The fact that she was in bare feet didn't bother her - she was the closest thing to a reckless, careless tomboy that you could get. The pedals were rough against the balls of her feet at first, but the annoying pain subsided once she began gliding across the pavement.
Her legs circled quickly as she pedaled onward, determined to get ahead of her friend. Her red hair was blowing back behind her, and a grin was plastered onto her face. She missed this while she was with her dad! She never got to bring Reid with her, so when she came back, it was like a breath of fresh air. It didn't take her long to catch up, and when Reid checked behind him, she was just catching up to his back wheel.
A giggle escaped her as she pushed onwards, leaning forward to the handlebars as though it would make her go faster like those Quidditch players. It seemed to work, or her will did, because eventually she passed Reid, and went zooming down the remainder of the street, toward the cul-de-sac. It had been a few moments since she saw Reid in her line of vision, and now she was the one to look back over her shoulder.
He was still a couple of paces behind her, giving her a boost of silly confidence. But apparently, she had leaned too far over the handlebars of her bike, and when the front wheel hit a bump in the road, Sabrina was flung right over them. A scream emitted from the girl's throat now as her chest skidded across the ground, giving her a good amount of road rash. Her knees scraped against the pavement, and her bike had toppled on top of her in an awkward position. Somehow, during all of this, her fingers which seemed to be glued to the handlebars had hit the pavement wrong as well, causing them to hurt more than she expected.
She was not one to cry. Sabrina Hurst never cried over injuries. She had scraped her knees plenty, and she even got scraped on her upper thigh, by her butt once! But this pain was all over, and it was searing. She hadn't felt anything like it. And call her dramatic for an eleven-year-old, but she could have sworn she had broken her fingers! They hurt so bad, and she clutched her hand to her equally painful chest.
She was kind of stuck there until Reid came around to help her. The bike being on top of her limited her movements, and being in pain while still laying on all of the painful parts was making it really hard for Sabrina not to shed a tear. Her eyes actually welled up, and she attempted to look up from her position on the ground, catching sight of Reid's bike tires nearing her.
"Reid!" She called out, whimpering slightly after. Any movement against her scratched-up chest hurt a fair amount. "Help!"

Off to the Races
For a good minute or so, he really thought he'd win this time around. The wind was at his back and he was pedaling as hard as he could into sweet sweet victory. That was until he saw the flash of red that passed him by with ease and the boy could only helplessly watch her ghost by. Well there goes his victory. Reid groaned as the girl throughly had a decent lead ahead of him, what did he have to do to get a decent win under his belt. It seemed that he'd just have to beat her in a test of strength, maybe they can see who can lift each other up better someday.
Reid had lost sight of the red head for a few seconds but in those few seconds - he heard quite the scream. It almost startled him as he heard Sabrina call his name, prompting him to pedal even faster than before. He saw what finally happened and almost had a heart attack thinking that she had been hit by a car or something. "Hold on!" he slightly panicked. The sight of his friend nearly had him jump off his bike, letting it fall on the floor as he reached her. Running on the pavement with his socks wasn't an issue, he only winced a bit as he felt a rock poke his foot.
It looked like she was trapped under her blue bike. "Oh man, okay, okay. I'm going to uh ... move this." Reid grabbed her bike frame and sucked in all of his breath. Cold sweat stuck onto the back of his neck and the loose ends of his hair matted to his forehead. With one heave, the boy managed to pull the frame off of her without having to drag it off. Reid placed it on the side and kneeled down on both knees beside her. "Whoa ..." he breathed, looking concerned. How could he not be after seeing the scrapes on her body?
It was so red that he was trying not to panic for her, she was alive and that was the good part. "Can we head back? I can carry you back? You mom is probably going to want to look at that, Sab." He sounded like he was on the verge of panicking, his voice was a little higher but somehow fighting against the urge to not have a meltdown. There was an awful amount of redness, and the fact that he couldn't tell if it was blood or not scared him. Still, what if she bled out here? What if she died? Reid offered his hand out to her, he could at least take her back home to ease his troubles. He could come back for their bike afterwards.

Off to the Races
As the bike got lifted off of her, Sabrina rolled over onto her back to keep from putting more pressure on her chest, and causing more potential infection in her wounds. Her mother putting alcohol on her wounds would definitely hurt. More than she hoped to admit. But with the way her fingers were feeling, she doubted she'd be staying at home for long. Her mother was a worrywart, and she'd probably end up sitting in the Hospital waiting room for five hours. Reid would probably go home, and she'd be left with the scolding for the rest of the night.
"Can we head back? I can carry you back? You mom is probably going to want to look at that, Sab."
A whimper emitted from her throat, and she shook her head, grateful that she hadn't hurt her head or face, at least. "Yes, please just help me up," She pleaded, her lips turning into a pout without her permission. Now that the road rash was more exposed to the air, it felt like searing pain. She kept her hand with the hurt fingers close to her chest as she pulled herself up into a crunch position, reaching out to grab a hold of Reid's arm. Whether he was ready for her or not, she tugged herself up onto her feet and breathed out a huff of air.
"Mum is going to kill me," She whined, going over to where her bike now was and trying to haul it back up onto its two wheels with her one hand. She wasn't the strongest, but somehow she managed. She felt lightheaded though, like she might pass out. Her fingers had become a throbbing pain, but she wouldn't dare move them. It would just flare the pain up all over again. The redhead looked back over to her friend, pushing a smile on her face, "Do you think I'll get any cool scars though? I don't think I got scraped up anywhere real badly," She mused, looking down at the front of her legs.
There were a few scratches there, and Sabrina's shirt must have lifted when she went across the pavement like a slip 'n' slide, because there were a good amount of scratches there, too. Her chest seemed to be the worst, though. She didn't even really want to look at it. While looking, her bike happened to lose balance, and it toppled over the other way. The girl jumped away with a squeak, one of her legs instinctively coming up to about her bellybutton, which wasn't the brightest idea. The pain was angry at her for doing so, and she put her leg back down with a sigh. "I just have bad luck."

The whole time she moved, he watched her with a close attention to her wounds. She really was the toughest person he knew, he would have started crying if this happened to him. He wasn't the most pain tolerant kid around, he could take a few punches, but to scrape sounded terrible. Her mom was probably going to give her an earful for what happened here, would she get mad at him too? He was there after all and perhaps it wouldn't happen if he didn't make it out to be such a competitive race.
He had the urge to apologize to Ms. Hurst for not watching out for Sabrina, this was his best friend. The boy flinched at the sound of her bike falling and walked over to pick it up. "I think today is just a bad day Sabby." he apologetically replied. It hopefully was the case, if anything else happened to her - she might just start thinking that. He pulled the fallen bike up and kicked the stand up once again, pausing to make sure it didn't topple over this time.
His racing heart slowly began to calm down; she was okay and nothing too bad occurred. It was a little scary to see what had happened to her, the cuts and scrapes looked like absolute death to deal with. But worse things could have happened and thankfully they didn't. "Here, I can support you on this side and just walk your bike home using my other hand."
His voice sounded a little hopeful, perhaps she'd let him help her. It wouldn't be any good to leave it behind, plus her mum would probably be more upset if she didn't come home with it. "Unless you're going to try and ride it back?" he asked, sounding rather quizzical. Could she? She probably could with the tenacity she had. But Reid stayed beside her in case she fell, she was tall enough to easily keep her arm around his neck anyway.

Darn, today had ended up going so awfully, that she wanted to cry because of that more than the pain that her little crash had caused. She looked around them to see what could have even caused it, before catching sight of a decently-sized rock that had a good chance of knocking her off her bike, "God," She muttered, walking over to the rock to kick it off of the road, or to the side of it at least, "Stupid rocks."
It was safe to say that she was irritated by the situation, but she shouldn't take it out on rocks. She should definitely take it out on her very, very stupid bike. But for that, she just gave it a glare. "Thanks, for standing it up," She mentioned, a frustrated blush overcoming her cheeks, "My hand hurts."
"I think today is just a bad day Sabby."
"Maybe," She huffed, and wandered back over to Reid. She didn't want this to happen. Maybe she should just hide the fact that her fingers were feeling broken - though somehow, she assumed that wouldn't work for long. Sooner or later, her mum would find out, and Sabrina would go have to spend the five hours in the hospital room. Maybe it was better if it happened sooner rather than later, after all.
"Here, I can support you on this side and just walk your bike home using my other hand."
She watched as he looked from her, back to the bike, and then back to her again. "Unless you're going to try and ride it back?" To this, Sabrina shook her head, then looked down at her fingers, huffing, "As much as I would love to make it easy like that, I don't think that's the best idea. Riding it, I mean," She muttered, and stepped up onto the balls of her feet. The longer she stood on the pavement, the hotter it got underneath her feet. They should really get moving.
"Could you walk it back for me, though? I have a feeling it would just keep falling on my end." She frowned, using her good hand to pull her shorts a little bit down, off of her road rash on her stomach. She'd rather not have denim on that - it hurt far more than it needed to.

Like clockwork, Reid listened to her request took the bike's stand off. He would come back for his own afterwards. Anyway, his feet was starting to burn from the pavement too. He held the bike close as he beckoned her to follow him. "How are you going to explain it to your mum?" he asked curiously. He had a feeling she might get more than a stern talking to. "I don't want you to get grounded." He wouldn't be able to hang around her for a bit and that meant they'd have to be apart for a little longer. Who was going to help him pack for Hogwarts?
Not only that, who could he bother about the magical world on his spare time. He pursed his lips and frowned at the thought of it. But then again, what if she broke something? It wouldn't be anything out of the blue, but he would feel really bad if Sabrina broke a wrist or even a chest bone. "Maybe you should go to the hospital too just in case? It looks really bad. But also kind of cool because you might get scars." Reid grinned. He stayed beside her as she walked, bike in tow as he left his back on the ground.

Sabrina shrugged her shoulders, and followed him along the middle of the street. She discovered that when she walked on the painted yellow line, it hurt much less on her feet. "I don't know. I'll just say I fell or something. Do you really think she'd ground me for getting hurt?" She asked, furrowing her brows and pouting her lips a little bit as she thought about it. She didn't get grounded for hurting herself before, would she now because she was potentially seriously hurt? She sure hoped not.
"Maybe you should go to the hospital too just in case? It looks really bad. But also kind of cool because you might get scars."
"I was thinking my mum might try to take me in, but I doubt it's that serious." She mentioned, shrugging off the fact that if she held her hand away from it's current position on her chest that she would feel much more pain than she wanted. At the mention of scars again, she looked down at her road rash, scrunching up her nose as she grinned, looking back at Reid, "I guess that would be pretty gnarly, eh?" She turned the corner, and was glad that there were still no cars. She could continue walking on the yellow line, which hurt way, way less.
She looked back in front of them, focusing on the road ahead. "Thanks for helping me out, Reid," She mentioned.

Glances were thrown her way as she walked, keeping a close eye just in case she might topple over again. His bike was left to the wayside behind them and he toted Sabrina's ride along, it was a nice one and he was glad it didn't break either. He was still in his socks and thankfully the thickness was enough to not let him get hurt. Reid nodded along as she talked, smiling and laughing shortly at her comments about it being 'gnarly'.
He always thought she was a pretty cool girl for being so outgoing and sporty, he never really met any other girl aside from Sabrina. Well he has, however Sabrina seemed to stand out - like this particular reason. She looked like she went through a storm and looked quite fine, even joked about it too. Reid appreciated that about her, he kind of looked up to her sometimes even. When he got hurt, he often tried to be strong like his friend. But of course he was a bit more softer than the girl and a tear or two would slip.
"No problem, dork. You're too fast sometimes, I swear." he nervously laughed. He saw her house ahead and continued on to stop near her yard. Reid used his foot to push the stand down, but struggled to so he leaned down and used his hand instead. He stood up and turned to the girl, looking a little frazzled himself. Would she get in trouble? Probably. He rubbed his hands together, pulling his finger slightly, a nervous tick when he was unsure. "I can cover for you? I can just say I pushed you to a race. I don't want you to get in trouble after all." There were only a few rare times he's ever willing to lie, let alone lie for someone. This was one of those times.

"Trouble usually finds me."
