✽The hairs on the back of Avery's neck tingled with a sensation. She felt as if someone was watching her. Turning her head, she saw the one person that made her heart skip a beat every time. Mikey. Her boyfriend. He looked dashing with his wind tousled hair and piercing blue eyes. She smiled.
Then in a matter of moments chaos erupted. An explosion rocked Avery's world as screams began to fill the air. Memories began to flood her mind. Bad memories. The wedding. She could still hear the sounds of magic crackling in the air, the smell of smoke, the explosion that ripped the walls to shreds.
She could still hear the screams and cries for help as people cried over their dead loved ones or begged to be pulled from the depths of the chasm that had torn the floor in two. She could still see the look of terror on people's faces as the attackers flooded in. The smell of blood still in her nose as she begged Dylan to stay with her. He had been so pale that night. So close to touching death. It was a nightmare that was real. A nightmare that she had somehow survived.
Someone called her name from what felt like miles away. A ringing began to envelope her. She was about to faint. This. Was. Bad.
A familiar hand gripped her own and brought her back to the present. In the blink of an eye Mikey arrived and pulled her close. She nearly collapsed into his chest, but she held her ground and allowed Mikey to check her for injuries. "I'm fine. Just a little shaken." She gave him a weak smile before turning to the matter at hand.
Regaining her senses, she acted purely on instinct and in a flash whipped out her wand and shouted, "Extinguo!" toward the flames. She could hear Mikey do the same. She gripped his hand tighter. Wondering if he too was remembering the haunting memories of that night. The night that had changed her forever. ✽

Jada finally arrived at the ball. She’d gotten caught up in her dorm, polishing her appearance after the labyrinth. Her dress was made of emerald green silk (of course), lined with hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds. Although her dress wasn’t as puffy as others’ were, it still looked elegant without drawing any unwanted attention. She’d also taken it upon herself to wrangle her hair into an elegant half up half down look, using bobby pins in the shape of playing cards to further match tonight’s theme.
She had come alone, it was kind of a last minute decision. She wasn’t planning on attending, having preferred to spend the evening alone in the now near empty castle. Everything had changed when she’d decided to run for royalty, you couldn’t win if you weren’t present, after all.
She entered the hall to the sounds of screaming as fires erupted all around. Her eyes darted around, quickly, assessing which fire needed putting out most desperately. She decided on the one near the table of red hearts. She rushed towards it, wand in hand. Her heart raced, the adrenaline doing little to downplay the stifling heat and smoke rapidly filling the room.
Not knowing what to do, she followed the lead of other students around her. She cried out; “Extinguo!” doing her best attempt to subdue the roaring flames.

'Come on!' Cassie says to Mirada as she enters the courtyard. She is delighted to have a companion to the ball, at the last minute. She is entering the ball quite late, after all the preparing and talking by the entrance. She can see that the courtyard is filled with students in ball gowns and suits, smiling and chatting together.
Although Cassie is prepared for the courtyard to be well-decorated, she still gasps when she sees the blooming flowers decorating the courtyard. Red and white roses surrounds the whole place, the purple wisteria cascading reminds Cassie of the botanical garden where she met Mira for the first time this summer. Four tables provides countless types of desserts and drinks. Picking up a cup of iced tea from the table of black spades, Cassie walks towards the white swings. There was a swing back in the botanical garden too.
She thinks she hears someone announcing the results of the spring royalty. I'm here just in time! she says. But out of her expectations, the chandeliers start swaying and falling to the ground. Cassie is so scared that she cannot make a sound. Then, 'BOOM'. When Cassie opens her eyes again, she can see fire nearly everywhere. Students are running and shouting. Some of those brave students pull out their wands and try to extinguish the fire.
It looks like I'll have to wait for a bit longer to know the results. Cassie sighs. She returns to the swings. Pulling out her wand, she points it at the fire by the swings. 'Extinguo' she says, hoping to extinguish the fire. She takes a sip of her iced tea.
Actions: enter the ball, casting extinguo at the fire by the swings.

Code by Fawkes Chaos My jaw dropped the second she started taking everything away.
HOW on EARTH did she managed to get ALL OF THAT in there!?
I just nodded like an idiot while she took out all of it, eyes wide open.
And I was just about to tell her that, even if it was impressive and pretty cool for her to bring it all here, what if one of the teachers of prefects caught us? I mean, it's not like we're doing s bad thing, but what if they think so? When a guy called out Sky's name.
She seemed to know him. I didn't. And it terrified me, cause, what if she randomly decided to make a friend introduction? I felt the blood leaving my face in a second. I don't have anything against Sky's friends, but if he came here, it meant i'd have to introduce myself, and possibly consider him as a friend or, at least, a contact.
Was it too late to fake a headache? I was good at faking them. I could do it quick. However, I didn't have time to think about my fortunate pain when another guy spilled juice over him.
I narrowed, tilting my head. Huh. Interesting. Sky got mad immediately, her Gryffindor spirit jumping up. Seriously, how did she expect to come out a Ravenclaw in the first place?
Before she did something stupid, like jumping up and saving him, he turned the table and danced with the girl of the other boy. Fearless. Huh. Even more incredible.
I sighed. This was being more of a fun night than I thought.
And yeah, she might've looked pretty cool fighting. But her dress and shoes would be ruined, then.
We chatted a bit more, until The Mad Hatter arrived.
Wait, no. I was mad hatter!
It was one of the staff member. And he was here for the...
Oh. The royalty.
Sky had signed up to be a pageant and, the day of her presentation, I managed to get a very fortunate undone homework. Don't get me wrong, I love Sky, and I would've killed to be there, it's just... It was too crowded.
And I had to leave the second my lunch started feeling on my throat.
I made it up for her later, though. I spent the whole day with her, and even got her lots of chocolate frogs.
Anyway, the second he was about to give the results...
Fire. Explosions.
"For all the Saints and your aunt Eva!" I screamed as I stood up from the table. What was going on!?
And, before I could even process it, Skylar was already running into the fire.
She casted a extinguishing charm at the Black Clubs table. Without even looking at it, I yanked her by the arm and grabbed her out of there.
What was her problem? She could've ended up hurt! She was too close.
And my world spun. She was playing with fire, literally. And life had already taken one joy away from me. I wouldn't allow the Saints taking the other one away.
"What were you thinking about!? You could've gotten yourself killed, did you think about it? No, of course you didn't, you-"
Smoke. I had grabbed her and walked and didn't even notice we ended up by the swings. Which were on fire, too.
Quickly, I grabbed my wand before she could do it again.
"Extinguo!" I casted at it and, one second later, I turned back to her.
"You're reckless, I know you're a Gryffindor and all, but seriously, woman, are you trying to kill me!? Do you have any idea what could've happened?"
But my hand was on her wrist now. Right at her pulse point, almost unconsciously, checking it. Making sure she was with me. Here. Alive.

Speech -- Thoughts
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Not for the first time, Pam found herself thinking that Ruth Fairchild truly was most beautiful.
Of course, Pam already knew that. It wasn't a new or fresh observation. She'd thought it in their previous ball, and the one before that too. And that one time Ruth was talking about her rock with increasing animation and Pam was understanding absolutely nothing.
Tonight though, she felt that the universe was specifically determined to make it everyone else's problem. Especially hers. Fairy lights caught in her hair whenever she moved, soft golden settling over her features in a way that left Pam torn between mild jealousy and a funny desire to ask her best friend out. She looked like she'd stepped straight out of those fantasy novellas Pam liked to read at 3 a.m. in the morning instead of sleeping like a responsible schoolgirl.
Or perhaps Pam was being biased because of the fact that the girl was crowned in purple.
It was a stunning, stunning look on her, Pam thought vaguely. I should switch out her closet, except she would never allow that so I'd need to do it while she's sleeping.
Worst of all, Ruth carried it way too casually. Was she aware of how amazing she looked? Why did she carry it like she wasn't in the middle of a glowing fairytale courtyard looking perfect and Pam wasn't losing her mind over it.
It was deeply unfair to her.
Now we just need a handsome gentleman in a black suit to ask her to a dance and—
Pam's mental image of a perfect ballroom dance date for her best friend was rudely cut off as the girl in question caught her wrist and steered her through the sea of men and women until they came to a rest. Beneath their feet, the platform turned slowly, smoothly under the glass surface, the polished brass reminding Pam of the covers of those ornate leather books she had seen in drawings and pictures. Dresses spread outwards, polished shoes glided over the floor with varying degrees of success and the lights in the sky reflected the glass surface until the event looked less like a school event and more like the wedding venue of the eldest prince of the most prestigious kingdom in the world.
Pam grinned, knowing what was coming as the familiar words slipped out of the girl's rose-kissed lips.
Not quite the ideal partner I was thinking of, but that's alright. Somewhere, them being each other's first dance had become a tradition. Pam selfishly hoped it never changed.
Pam dipped into what she hoped was a decent curtsey as she smiled, "Why yes, Lady Fairchild, for you I would gladly offer not merely one, but every dance this evening."
Pam was still grinning when the music began to fade into the background. She blinked, smile morphing into a pout as she turned away. They had not even begun to dance, what was it now? Soft confused murmurs had broken out in the crowd as everyone's attention shifted to the white gazebo at the centre of the courtyard.
A staff member had stepped onto it sometime. At least, Pam assumed they were staff. The painted face, the black hat that seemed almost too nig for his head, and the violently colored suit made identifying the human difficult, although they had dressed as a character Pam recognised quite easily.
Honestly, it was quite impressive.
Their enchanted voice echoed around the venue, loud enough to cut through every lingering conversation as well as Pam's thoughts. She listened with growing curiosity, even though she herself hadn't participated in the beauty pageant. The figure bowed dramatically, removing their hat with a practiced flourish.
Before he could announce the winner, however, a sharp sound split through the garden.
Pam blinked, eyes lifting towards the sky, from where the sound had appeared to come.
The chandeliers.
They shook violently in place where they were suspended in the air, sending fractured light dancing wildly across the floor. The chains strained with their weight, the entire structure unstable in a way they definitely should not be. Then, quicker than lightning, they fell.
Someone screamed.
Panic rippled though the crowd, people shuffling back and falling over one another as the impossible wait of glass and metal rushed towards them, turning the elegant glow of the evening into something catastrophic—
—and stopped.
Pam let out a sudden, almost involuntary breath of relief. However, the nightmare was not yet over. While the chandeliers remained suspended just above their heads, flames erupted in various parts of the courtyard.
Fear, raw and blinding, left goosebumps racing across her skin. she stumbled back, and right into Ruth. Pam caught hold of her hand, perhaps almost painfully.
For one horrible second, Pam couldn't think past the pounding of her own heartbeat.

Thinking back to what he said, did he really think of her as divine? To her it seemed like he complimented her as being very pretty which was very flattering although she wouldn’t have thought of a comment she’d get alot to be flattering now. The music was fast paced much like rock and roll and pop. Strange. Angel couldn’t help but notice how the chandelier was well, a hazard? It was shaking and the high winds were making it sway a bit too much and by looking at it, it was a frenzy. Her sight could not be more true as the chandelier’s diamonds and lights fell coincidently to several vials which made or started a fire two words were true at the same time. Fumes spread like wild fire. Angel shocked and confused for a bit lightly placed her laced hands on her red lips. This took a turn and one she could not have expected but the music might’ve helped create a foreshadowing of what was to come which is the present, now.
Angel took the steps, but before she could go any further she turned to Aamon and hold his hands tightly in a hurry. Her motive was to quickly extinguish the fires before it extended after the slowly burning courtyard. It was indeed a very rare and grim sight to see the curtains and few other places smelling like ashes.
“Aamon! Sorry I think we caught ourselves in a predicament time!” she raised her voice just a little to muffle out the concerns and shouting.
Turning like a blitz, with her great speed she was able to reach the swings which in her favour in the times of odds was much closer than the rest. Others were dealing with the fires too which was great because the situation can be descaled.
“I’ll be right back!” she said to Aamon whilst she ran with her heels.
Finally, reaching towards the swings she stepped back and grabbed her wand to be ready to cast the spell.
“Extinguo!” she yelled this time with care and effort she would hate it if the mood was ruined for others because of a sudden mishap. Angel frowning as she exchanged her focus towards the swings. It was a pretty set very unfortunate it had been burnt.

Some of the things Ava missed the most about her life back at the Muggle town were the evenings and nights she spent playing all types of tabletop games. It could be either with her Muggle friends or her dad, who always let her win. The excitement she felt when Arin agreed to play those games with her, brought such joy that she wanted to just jump around. She didn't even notice that Arin didn't actually want to play them.
While he was done eating and was grabbing something to drink, he asked her if she wanted something, "Grab me a soda, please," she replied, smiling with her eyes. Arin brought her a drink and got himself a lemonade. Once she was done eating and drinking, they both made their way to the game table, finding empty seats. She, on the way, grabbed a pack of UNO to play.
Once they were settled, she started opening and shuffling them. The feeling of a new deck always made her giddy, there was just something about how the cards felt. She started dividing it and shuffling in a way that might impress her date. But when he did say something, it was the words she did not expect. He doesn't know how to play UNO. How could he not know? Isn’t this the most popular card game? But then, Arin was a pureblood, what if it was a whole different thing for him?
She started putting the cards by card explaining which card refers to what, telling him about the rules and all the basic stuff. "I think if we play, you could understand it more," she told him, as she once again shuffled them and divided them into two groups while putting the rest in the middle.
As they were doing this, an announcement rang welcoming everyone. They were supposed to tell the winners who gets the Spring Royalty. Ava suddenly remembered that she too put her name in it, because every one of her friends did. But she actually forgot to perform for the pageant.
The names were going to be announced when a sudden burst made her jump in her seat. A fire broke out. "Huh?" She looked at places around her, near the table of Red Hearts, fire was catching its flame. "We need to do something!" She told Arin, who was sitting there calmly as if everything around them wasn't burning. She looked around, "W-we should help!" The seer, panickingly looking around to find something that could help, forgetting altogether that she was a witch.

Aamon was, as he often was, tongue tied. That was a problem that came from being around pretty girls.
Aamon had been mid-step. Mid-thought too. Something dangerously close to another regrettable comment about her name or her genetic lineage. That was the problem when a socially inept, well-trained pureblood attempted to garner a relationship or engage in a conversation. Shakespearian tragedy that would cause this evening to collapse theatrically.
That is until the ball decided to implode on its own. The chandelier shuddered and Aamon looked up. "…No," Aamon said, with quiet, immediate authority; like one might correct a misbehaving servant or a poorly timed metaphor. However, the universe did not comply. Glass fell. Fire followed.
For one surreal, offensive second, the music continued, as if this were all part of the chaotic, disjointed ambiance, before dissolving into panic, shouting, and the unmistakable sound of expensive things being ruined. Aamon stood very still, his mind short-circuiting. Weren't there people to manage this. Well, almost-people, like house elves. "What was a chandelier doing outside anyways?" An offended part of his psyche cried out.
Then there was the flames. They came so fast. And it was with that alarming enthusiasm with which the fire was spreading that left the snake in a daze. Then Angel grabbed his hands. That, more than the fire, disrupted his train of thought.
He was supposed to say something smart, something soothing, something valiant. Maybe something he read somewhere. People did that, copied the work of others and made it their own all the time. It came out cheap and nonsensical, but to someone as talentless as he, it would seem artful. But before he could embarrass himself, Angel was already moving. Aamon blinked as she turned and ran, in heels, which felt like a personal affront to physics, declaring she'd be right back as though she were fetching refreshments and not actively sprinting toward an unfolding hazard.
"…Right," Aamon muttered, watching Angel go. "…Of course she's competent. Why wouldn't she be?" The fire spread. Aamon exhaled sharply, rolling his shoulders back like he could physically reassemble the situation into something less chaotic. "Fine," he said under his breath. "We're doing this now."
Aamon drew his wand, the device did not seem to suit him: aspen wood and kelpie hair. As humble the device, the motion was clean, practiced, and almost immediate. "Metelojinx" Aamon incanted. This was the Weather-modifying Charm, more generalized than a spell that would snuff out the flames with a blast of water. Why take out the fires one-by-one when he could simply summon a thunder storm. Certainly this was not an opportunity for the mods to make something go worse.
"Truly," Aamon continued under his breath, flicking his wand toward a burning drape, "if one is going to suspend a large, fragile, highly decorative object above a crowd, one might consider ensuring it does not develop murderous ambitions."
Action: Ammon cast Metelojinx, the Weather-modifying Charm to summon a thunderstorm.
