Ravenclaw v. Hufflepuff
SPECTATOR THREAD FOR BROOM RACING
RAVENCLAW vs HUFFLEPUFF - SPRING 2026
Spring. It's a nice season, but it wasn't Summer. It's a season of warmth and blossoming flowers. It wasn't the season of smothering trees and ashes from a good, allegedly accidental fire. It's okay, but not great. But what was an Ashwood to do but accept that nature chooses not yet to have good fires? Actually, there was still something an Ashwood can do...Date: May 1st
Time: 10.00
Weather: Warm, Dry
Vale clasped her broom with black, sharp nails. The air was crisp today, like a good fire over old, dead logs. A smile that only meant one of three important things in Vale's life: watching people die gruesome deaths, starting a fire, and when flobberworm fritters were once again back on the menu in the dining hall. Yes, something good is soon to happen.
"Racers, are you prepared to finally meet your demise?! I envy you all. I remember the thrill. The everlasting taste of watching your sworn enemies soon meet their fated end by your own hands, or even their own! Ah, what a experience." Vale daydreamed her time of racing, her amber eyes staring up to the sky as if her past was her very present.
"You all know the rules, and if not, here's the quicker; no pressing the starting line. No talking back to the referee, which is me, I will kill you and your entire family if you do. Blah blah blah. Did everyone signed for their preferred coffin color? The default is black otherwise. Okay, is everyone ready-WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT PRESSING THE STARTING LINE? MOVE, BACK! OR I'LL SHALL CURSE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY LINEAGE WITH PEELING TOE NAILS FOR GENERATIONS!" Vale hissed, pointing out someone in the mix with a sharp, black nail.
She sat back comfortably on her broom, smiling as if she didn't wish a harrowing curse on someone likely not experienced with the Ashwood family traits. "Well, what are you all waiting for? Go!"

Colin was stoked for the day! He and Liam came up to cheer on their favouritest broom racing team of all! Ravenclaw versus Hufflepuff was up first and it was a fine morning for a race. Neither too hot nor cold, and it was sunny. The stands were fairly crowded but they eventually found a spot to their liking not too far from from where from where his own beautifully homicidal housemate, Vale Ashwood, was announcing the race.
Once they got settled, they unrolled the gold lettered cheering sign they'd made. It came out really well this time! Previous attempts at making signs had resulted in some really quite spectacular flops as the magic refused to spell AngelFyre's name correctly! The best of the bunch had yielded "Angle Fire", which at least made some sense! But they got it right at last and were super proud to cheer on the Best Broom Racer Ever! (Apart from the entire Slytherin team, of course!)
And at last the race was set to begin! Colin nudged Liam's ribs and nodded down towards the racers. Fyre and Simon were holding hands. "I'm no seer, but I predict a snogfest by the end of this race!" And at last Captain Vale's familiar voice cut through the random din of the gathered students. Colin laughed as she ran through her pre-race speech. "Hah!" Colin leaned into Liam. "That girl always get straight to the point! Mind you, generations of peeling toenails is a new one. Makes me wonder if she's actually reading from the same spell books the rest of are!"
"She must have caught someone!" Liam replied. "Honestly, those claws of hers send the shivers up my spine."
Colin smiled appreciatively. "Yeah, ye get used to Vale after a while." He smiled softly. "She's a wicked hard cap, I'll tell ye that." Once she finished, Colin shouted over to her: "Kill Em All Vale! Win one for Slytherin!!"

Ravenclaw v. Hufflepuff
Cassie seldom watches sport games. She isn't that fond of watching games, though she is interested in playing them herself. However, she finds herself sitting by the broom racing tracks on this warm, sunny spring day.
This race is no ordinary one. Held between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, it is the last race of the whole school year. Despite she wasn't that interested in school sports, she paid attention to the game results this school year when she realized that Zephyr is on the broom racing team. She knows that both Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff have won and lost one game each, this last game might decide the winner of the year.
Cassie sits by the tracks, watching as the broom racers mount their brooms. She recognizes Zephyr at once, though she is not quite sure if he notices her. How desperately she wishes that he can look at her direction. But she hopes the opposite at the same time too-- she doesn't want her prescence to distract him or affect him of any kind.
It is quite a warm day, so she has two cups of iced lemonade with her. Deep in her heart, she hopes, even though the chances are rare, that she can find an excuse, reasonable or not, to hand a cup to Zephyr after his race.
The race begins. Cassie is nervous. She doesn't want to see anyone get hurt in the race, especially the boy she is fixing her eyes on. But on the other hand, she is not worried about the results. Either Zephyr's team or her house's team will win.

⚝⚝ It was the second broom race I had ever been to watch. I woke up early, and got sorted out, before walking down to the pitch at half nine, so I could get a good spot.
The referee threatened a few people on the teams, which made me smile. Classic Slytherin behaviour. Although, my smile turned to dread as I remembered that the two seventh years were participating in their last race, meaning that next year I would be on the team. And, it might be me being threatened by the referee.
I watched, excited, as the Ravenclaw team stole wands from the Hufflepuffs. I saw that Brookline executed a perfect alley-oop on Dealla, sending her flying into the lead. Sadly, the Hufflepuff team did the same, sending one of their players into the lead as well. I looked around at the spectator stands - I saw that there was another person sitting near me. I looked at her, before realising who it was. It was Cassie, a third year Ravenclaw, who I had ended up going to the ball with.
I went over to her, and sat down near her.
"Hi Cassie! How are you!"
I looked back at the track. There were two other people neck and neck behind the leaders, a Ravenclaw and a Hufflepuff. The Ravenclaw was in my year, but, as far as I remembered, I'd never spoken to her.
I turned back to Cassie.

Ravenclaw v. Hufflepuff
Sports were never really a thing Denise enjoyed. Yes, she did play lacrosse during the summer (well, before she got expelled from primary school), but she was never really into watching sports in general, whatever it was, football, lacrosse, rugby, cricket, etc.
Now, here Denise stood in the warm May weather. It was rather dry, and Denise felt her forehead and mouth feeling dry and chapped. She should have brought some moisturizer and lip balm with her, but fortunately, it wasn't unbearable. Vale Ashwood, the moderator and well... commentator flew up screaming. Denise felt a bit intimidated by the pureblood and her screams, feeling bad for whoever was pressing the starting line. She really hoped they didn't get peeling toenails.
After chasing them off, the racers sped off. With the spectators, she noticed someone odd in particular. Two boys, well, looked rather alike, didn't they, held up a gold-lettered cheering sign for AngelFyre McCubbin, one of the racers in the Hufflepuff team. Both looked like Slytherins, though, so Denise assumed that they were good friends with McCubbin. She never spoke to her but assumed that she was probably nice enough.
She backed off a bit as one of the boys screamed, "I'm no seer, but I predict a snogfest by the end of this race!"
Maybe she should back off from people's, umm... personal business by not interacting with the crazy boys. She can't exactly imagine snogging anyone, especially since she didn't even have a crush yet. She didn't exactly understand the concept of romantic love. Familial love, of course, with her grandmother, and love from friendship with her classmates, but not exactly the love that lets someone kiss her.
She also noticed Cassie Jiang, holding two cups of lemonade. Maybe it's for a friend in her Ravenclaw team, likely. How nice, Denise wished she had a friend like Jiang.
She also spotted Mirada Johnson, who moderated an unofficial Broomracing that Denise was in a while ago. Cassie Jiang was on the opposing team, but it's all over, and they can talk about broom racing in general. She hoped Cassie Jiang didn't hold it against her when one of her teammates, was it Zephyr Deakin, who tried to blatch Cassie Jiang at the beginning of the race and failed miserably.
Denise exclaimed, "Hi Mirada! Hi Cassie! How are you guys and how do you find the race so far?"
Well, she certainly did not expect an experienced sixth-year Simon Kincaid who went the furthest to go KOB by the second round.
