“Asterion, Alexis”

Alexis’s eyes widen at the call of her name. This is it. She walked to the front with her head held high and a confident stride, step onto the platform and sat on the old stool in a perfect posture. She could feel that all eyes are on her, she looked calm and collected. Her eyes darted across the hall, searching for her brothers at the Slytherin table. They were grinning and waving at her, she smiled at them.

She felt the professor placed the sorting hat on her head. Everything was silent. After a minute or two, she heard a whisper in her head, the voice was deep and low. “...Ahhh. Another Asterion?”

“Yes” She replied shortly, her voice unwavering.
“Interesting. Very, very interesting...”

“Now, now, let’s see where should I put you.”
Alexis stayed silent, waiting for the hat to continue.

“Kind? Hmm... Not so much. But hard-working? Yes, yes...

Brave? Ohh... very. Loyal? Only to loved ones.

Ambitious? Aha! Just like your brothers. I see, I see.

Very very smart. Eager to learn. Creative too.

This is a hard one. You remind me of your father.
Oh! You want to be an auror too? My, my.”
Alexis thought of her father. She idolize him in everything he does. She thought of her brothers, they always have a way to get what they wants, she got that from them. Her mother is smart, very smart, the reason why she loves reading as much as she does.

“What is it going to be then?” She ask calmly.

“I know just where to put you...”

The Great Hall was a sight to behold for any first years crossing the big doors for the first time. The enchanted ceiling, the long tables, the other students and professors. So many elements to create an unforgettable memory. Riannon was trying to see everything, she moved only because the other first years were moving forward dragging her with them.

The group of new students reached the front of the hall and the Headmaster began his speech. His booming voice captivated Riannon. She was on her toes trying to have a better view of the Headmaster and the Sorting Hat. Her parents and brother told her about the sorting tradition and she was impatient to have her turn with the Sorting Hat. Her turn will have to wait after his song though. But it was a great song so Riannon was not too mad to wait a little more and she clapped loudly once the song was over.

Riannon watched as other students made their way to the stool and were sorted to the four different houses. Finally, she heard her name "Riannon Campbell" and she quickly made her way.

Settling down Riannon had the Sorting Hat placed on her head. Seconds later, she heard as a voice began speaking to her.

"Riannon Campbell ... a mischievous young heart we have here" began the Sorting Hat. "Full of creativity, a big heart and too much energy."

"There's no such thing as too much energy according to my grand-mother"interrupted Riannon.

"Uh ... A smart mouth too it seems." continued the Sorting Hat "Let's not make it more difficult than necessary. You will be right at home in ..."

"HUFFLEPUFF"

With a big smile on her face, Riannon quickly thanked the Hat and made her way to the Hufflepuff table. She had people to meet and make friend with. Her life as a Hogwarts student started now.

Kristen followed the large group of students from the Hogwarts express to the school. From the outside, it looked like a massive castle. Her jaw nearly hit the floor when she saw it for the first time. She couldn't believe how big the school was. How on earth was she going to keep from getting lost? When they entered the Main Hall, a professor talked to them for a moment and then took them into the Great Hall for the sorting ceremony. The Headmaster gave a speech and started with the list.

Kristen was shocked to learn that the hat that was placed on their head could talk. Inanimate objects were not supposed to speak to you. She was quite excited to come to this school, after her parents finally told her about magic and Hogwarts that is, they told her that they both attended this school and met here. Her mother was a first born Hufflepuff, her entire family before her had all been Gryffindor. Her father's family line on the other hand was Hufflepuff through and through. After her parents telling her all about the houses, she was really hoping that she would also be sorted into Hufflepuff to carry on their legacy. She met so many of the traits.

Kristen looked around the room and saw these beautiful candles floating in the ceiling, and the photos on the wall almost seem to jump out at you. She started to become more nervous as she watched her peers sometimes getting yelled at by the hat, sometimes getting sorted straight away and she began to shake. She tried to swallow the lump in her throat, but then suddenly heard her name call out into the great room.

"Kristen Moon!"

She looked at her Headmaster nervously and walked up to the stool. She climbed on and sat waiting for the hat to be placed on her head. Once it was placed, she felt terrified.

"Relax my dear," the Sorting Hat said, "I am not here to hurt you, just decide what house you belong to."

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes to calm her nerves.

"Much better. Mmm, you are a Moon. I can tell by the looks of you, your father, Gregory's bloodline runs so thick in you. Alas, you have your beautiful mother's eyes. Ah yes, Maria was quite shocked to be placed into Hufflepuff when her sister Bethany was placed into Slytherin."

Kristen looked out at the crowd of new students and wondered how a hat knew all that from sitting on her head.

"I know all my dear. I see you are loyal and patient, but there are some other traits I sense too. You do exercise chivalry, but you aren't exactly brave, however, you do have the fuse box of a Gryffindor. I sense an overwhelming need for knowledge and creativity. You are clever and witty. It seems you haven't stopped reading about Hogwarts since you found out about it's existence. I know exactly where I will put you my dear, Ravenclaw!"

Kristen's mouth fell open as she looked around at the tables, 'A first born Ravenclaw?' she thought, 'How can this be?' She stood from the chair and slowly made her way to the cheering Ravenclaw table and fought back the overwhelming urge to cry. When she arrived at Ravenclaw's table, she sat quietly near the end of the table hoping no one would talk to her, she needed time to process what had happened.

A Wizard born girl who loves to read and study. Super outgoing and eager to make new friends.

Mars stood in confusion in the middle of the bright-eyed students. To a certain degree, they did not want to be here. They missed their brothers and the swirls already present in their stomach grew as they contemplated all the horrible things the little monsters could have gotten themselves into. They'd always been uneasy in large crowds where there were too many people to notice them, and too many people to talk to.

They glanced around at all the other students, all eyes fixed on the gold-armor clad headmaster at the front of the room.

"...sorting ceremony..."

His amplified voice bounced hard off of Mars' eardrums and they shuttered. They already missed the comfort of their earbuds, of drowning out the outside world in rising melodies and crafted lyrics.

"The sorting hat..."

The majority of the crowd's attention remained on Solomon Lear, but Mars found themselves looking around for the item in question. They meant no disrespect to the thing, but they had spent 11 years of their life trying to figure out where they belonged with no luck; how was it supposed to answer that question in a matter of minutes? They finally found it sitting atop a three-legged stool at the front of the room. It was hardly impressive, just a bundle of brown rags in the shape of a hat. Then, the headmaster's voice broke through their thoughts again.

"... is very much sentient."

At that, another voice retorted, aged and withered, but with an icy conviction that left no room for arguing.

Sentient, I am intelligent.

The wave of gasps rippled through the crowd as more than half of the heads jerked from side to side, looking for the source of the voice. Mars bit back a choking laugh. They had seen the thing open its "mouth," a fold in the old fabric, and hiss out its obvious disliking of the headmaster's word choice. Chuckling to themself, Mars pulled their arms into their familiar cross-armed position, cocking a hip out, and leaning back on their heels. Okay, they had to admit, anything that makes a remark like that had earned some of their respect.

Pulling their gaze off the "intelligent" object, they surveyed the room in seldom-felt curiosity. They admired the way the candles lit the decorated walls in a comfortable glow, each candle seemingly held aloft by invisible threads. They studied the one closest to them, watching a large, fat drop of melted wax run down the side only to be caught by another one already frozen there from years before. They wondered what would happen if it had slid all the way off of the main body, smiling faintly. They'd hate to be the unfortunate soul that got caught under that.

Their eyes moved from the candles to the walls. Countless picture frames lined the brown room, gold glinting under the glow of the candlelight. They were beautiful and yet... none of them held any pictures, only blank black canvases encased in golden frames.

Deciding not to dwell on it, Mars' attention turned to the four long tables lined with dishes and cutlery. There were already a fair amount of students sitting at each; the one' in red robes jostled each other's elbows, laughing, the blue-robed ones all with noses in their books and half-filled forks suspended in midair, the yellow ones with arms around each other, and the green ones whispering quietly, eyes darting to the rest of the standing crowd, picking at certain individuals with their stares. One of them caught Mars' gaze, the wizard in question smirking at them. Mars kept their flat mouth and cold stare, only raising an eyebrow at the offending student. They locked eyes for a few fleeting seconds before the wizard looked away scowling. Mars let themself smirk at that, shaking their head slightly.

They returned to observing the silverware or maybe they should say gold... but it might have been a trick of the light. As they stared intently at the table, they could have sworn a faint scent lifted off the wood to meet them. It was... sweet and savory, like a Thanksgiving meal, wrapped in thyme and a soft-smelling flower. Something about it was familiar, too familiar, and a flash of someone - soft hands working a floury dough, a soft feminine laugh audible in the background - punched itself through Mars' brain.

They stopped, frozen, staring unseeingly at the floor. Something prickled at the back of their throat and heat built itself behind their eyes. But-but Mars didn't cry. Had never. Would never. Too many thoughts raced through their head, emotions building, a wave peaking, reaching, ready to break-

Someone stumbled into them from behind, knocking them out of their stupor. The tightness and the heat were gone in an instant and Mars straightened up, blinking strangely.

"Mars T'ien!"

The headmaster's booming voice finally registered to Mars. They pushed their way through the crowd, treading in the direction of the sorting hat.

"Yes, yes, I'm here!" Mars called. Then, quieter under their breath, "No need to get your panties in a twist, geez."

A couple of the students closest to them snickered.

They stepped gracefully up to the sorting hat, studying it carefully.

"What?" The sorting hat's shivering voice snaked into their ear.

"Nothing, I just think you're cool. And I'm also trying to decide how many of the people who've worn you probably have lice."

If the sorting hat could laugh, it let out of a half-snort. Mars grinned, picked it up, and placed it on their head.

"Mars T'ien," This time, the voice didn't curl itself around their ears, sending goosebumps across the soft flesh. It spoke directly to their brain, causing them to flinch suddenly.

"Mars. You are a peculiar one."

Mars snorted. They could have told it that.

"I can see your wishes. Your deepest desires and grandest hopes. I can see every thought you've ever had, every mistake, every triumph," the voice declared, "And every..." It stalled as if confused.

"Hmm." It mumbled.

"What?" Mars thought.

"I can see everything in your head. Which should include your memories but... well, something is missing. A large part. An important part."

"Wonderful."

"No matter. I can still place you without it. And I am never wrong." The hat spoke.

"You value intelligence. Fitting for a Ravenclaw. But you are loyal to your brothers. Perfect for a Hufflepuff. You are quick and clever on your feet. Quite a Slytherin. And... you seek adventure, honor, glory. You would make a wonderful Gryffindor.

"Wow, so I really am as messed up as they come, huh?" Mars half-laughed.

"Not messed up, just balanced. A jack of all trades. This will be difficult." The hat responded.

"Mars T'ien. T'ien. T'ien." The hat seemed to pause at this. Suddenly, the flash of that someone played back through Mars' head. The soft voice was singing while kneading the dough. It laughed as someone else's hand entered the frame, a small hand, still round and chubby with baby fat. Then, it was gone again.

"Huh."

"What was that?" Mars exclaimed.

"So you do not remember..." The hat trailed off.

"Remember what? What was that?" Mars was practically yelling at the thing now.

"Mars, were your parents magical?"

"What? No, they were perfectly normal. As far as I know, I'm the only one with any kind of magical abilities. But what does that have to do with anything??

"So you would like to know?"

"What do you think I've been saying this entire time?" Mars huffed.

"Very well, then," The hat almost seemed to smile at that. "I have decided. You are a..."

"RAVENCLAW!" The word was no longer just in Mars' head. It boomed against the walls, echoing off the empty frames. The table that seated all of the wizards in blue robes cheered.

"What!? Mars exclaimed in their head. "You didn't answer my question, you just put me in a damn house!" The sorting hat made no reply. Angrily, Mars pulled it off their head. They considered throwing it to the floor, but then, what did they always say. The best people (and things, apparently) answer questions with questions. Gingerly, they placed in back onto the stool, brushing it off lightly.

Prickles of the memory still stabbed into their consciousness as they made their way down to the Ravenclaws. No matter. Mars took a seat at the table.

"You know, your red hair is gonna look real weird with the blue robes," someone on their left said. Mars smiled. They hadn't known where they were going to end up, but this didn't seem too bad after all.

[ Home, they said. I should like to go home. ]

Eloise bounced on the balls of her feet as she waited for her name to be called. At 11, Eloise had yet to grow out of her childlike restlessness. Energy coursed through her veins as the small girl waited within the throng of other 11-year-olds. As the crowd slowly began to thin, Eloise took the time to observe the room around her. It was large, packed with students, and oozing magical energy. The beautiful enchanted ceiling and floating candles caught her attention, and Eloise spent a good amount of time gazing up in awe.

"Terrel, Eloise.

Eloise jumped in surprise when her name was called. Pushing past other students, she tried not to trip over her feet. When the hat was placed on her head, Eloise heard a voice echoing around the inside of her head.

"What have we here? Oh, stubborn, yes, and temperamental too!" At this, Eloise frowned. She was not temperamental! Well, maybe she was, but just a little! The hat didn't have to go announcing that to the whole crowd, did it?

"Inquisitive mind, though... hmm... Must be RAVENCLAW!

With that, Eloise let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding. Once the hat was plucked from her head Eloise began making her way over to her new housemates. If all of Hogwarts was to be this wonderful, Eloise couldn't wait to begin learning everything she could, especially how to enchant floating candles.

After all the stories her parents had told her and all the time she had spent psyching herself up for this, Alice's breath was still caught in her throat when the doors to the Great Hall were opened. It was magnificient, and she knew right there and then that no amount of preparation would have made her ready for this. No tale or picture did justice to being there in the flesh, hearing that soft murmur of fellow students she would be joining, the nervous tension from the other first years around her, the feeling of space and age and magic in the air.

Alice couldn't take her eyes off of…… Well, everything. There was so much to take in, and she lost all sense of time until the headmaster's sudden booming noise made her jump. Embarrassed, she smoothed an unruly lock of ginger hair back behind her ear and hoped that the stone floor would swallow her. First impressions matter, and she was already acting like a fool. Let her at least get through this first dinner before revealing just how uncool she was.

There was a shocked murmur from some of the first years as the Sorting Hat began to speak. Ah, of course. Not everyone here had magical parents who would have told them exactly what to expect. Alice wasn't sure if she was sorry for them or jealous of them – on one hand, they must be so nervous, with no idea what was coming, but on the other, they were experiencing everything as a surprise. Perhaps, considering how badly her hands were sweating, Alice was more sorry for them than anything else. She knew what to expect and how to act and still she felt like fleeing for the fear of doing something wrong.

"Alice Lemont!"

Lost in her thoughts, Alice hadn't even noticed her turn had come, and she managed only barely not to stumble as she stepped up to where she would be sat and the Sorting Hat would look into her heart and find her place.

"Oh, yes," came the strange voice, seeming to echo and boom inside her head although Alice knew very well she wasn't the only one to hear it. "Courage, wits and a high sense of honor and pride." Alice barely contained a smile, preening under the praise. "Rather self-centered, aren't you?" The smile dropped as quickly as it had come. "Now, now. There's nothing wrong with knowing your worth. You'll be a hard worker for sure, and as for bringing the best out of you, I know just what you need, people you can trust with your life and who can challenge and lift you to be the best version of yourself– SLYTHERIN!"

Slytherin? That was good, that was alright. Her mother had been in Slytherin, her father in Ravenclaw. Alice's shoulders sagged with relief. She jumped up and hurried over to where her new House was cheering for her with a bounce in her step, the smile that spread on her face.

Ed did not quite know how to feel about all this. A bunch of kids his age all bundled up together in silly black robes with collars that buttoned up all the way to their chin. Pulling one of these off at the end of the day must have been the most satisfying feeling ever. Or so he thought as he furiously pulled on his own collar to try and loosen the fabric a little. Not really paying any attention to the ceremony, he looked around the room. Whatever his mother had told him was proven true. Even the intricate details that described the room all fell in quite nicely with the actual scene.

His father would have shredded these robes apart though. Ed could already hear his father's voice complain about all the fashion disasters going around this place. Quirking an eyebrow at his fellow students being called forward one by one, he wondered how long he was meant to be waiting he-

"Eldridge Seath?"

His eyes perked up as his attention was drawn to the stage. Not having followed anything that had transpired during the ceremony, the boy was at a loss on what he was expected to do. Quietly stepping forward out of the crowd, he gave the rest of the gang a formal nod. Straightening his back, getting his hair in the right swing and the boy was ready to meet his fate. Ed was directed towards a hat. A hat that spoke and sealed your destiny in this school basically. Determining what family you belonged to.

"Ha! Another curious fellow eyyy?" The hat began while barely touching Ed's head. "I see some hidden strength, a desire to learn, yes. But still... I think this will go better if we'd pick... SLYTHERIN!"

Looking up to see the hat being lifted from his head, the boy's hair got all messed as it stuck to the fabric of the enchanted hat. He knew next to nothing about house Slytherin, guess he was about to find out what they were made of.

SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2019

Hogwarts. H-O-G-W-A-R-T-S.

The girl muttered the name of her new school for several times. She was here, finally, after dreaming of it for days and nights from the age of five. She got extremely excited since her brother Edmund and cousin Perseus were accepted, and the brown eyed young girl wasn’t even bored to think of it even an hour ago.

Setting her feet on the marble floor of the Great Hall, Lindsey started glancing around. She was curious. Or very curious. For, you would only have a sorting ceremony once in your life, right? You couldn’t start it over again, or have a second choice.

She began admiring the candles floating. Lindsey heard Edmund talking about it enthusiastically before, and her parents just smiled and nodded silently. And those older students sitting beside the four long tables. Her eyes began wandering through the Gryffindor and Slytherin one, trying to find her brother or cousin.

The youngest Springhall children failed. Perseus Linfield must somewhere in the snakes crowd, however since he looked quite normal — brown hair and green eyes — Lindsey didn’t find him. She did find her brother though. Edmund Springhall was busy talking with a friend, and sadly he didn’t see his sister was busy wanting to contact him.

The brown eyed girl sighed. She looked back to the front of the hall, where the sorting hat sat. Well, if you could say “sat” regarding a hat. The headmaster — his name’s Lear? — had already begun calling names.

The list was long, and Lindsey knew that she had to wait for a long time, probably. The “S” came one of the last. But she wasn’t bored, anyways, cause the girl was curiously listening to the unacquainted names and their houses.

She counted how many Gryffindors were sorted. Then Ravenclaws, Slytherins, and Hufflepuffs. Listening attentively, she couldn’t help trying to figure out the hat’s interactions with her later — what would it say, and which house would she be sorted into?

It had always been a question since she had ever found out the Hogwarts sorting system. Her parents, well mannered and intelligent, were both Ravenclaw graduates. They were the best people in the whole world…well, all the Springhalls were all Ravenclaws, as her grandfather said. Although Herbert Springhall didn’t tell her the exact year and name of his own parents, Lindsey believed it steadily. Though, she might make a Slytherin as well. The Linfield family were Slytherin in a whole, although her mother wasn’t — but what’s the matter? Slytherin and Ravenclaw were similar… Also, why not consider Gryffindor? Look Edmund, he’s a Springhall as well! It was confusing. However, deep in Lindsey’s heart, she knew she just wanted to be a lion. Like Edmund.

She thought carelessly through the things related to sorting. That was until the applause of a student successfully sorted was finished, and the Great Hall turned back into peace.

“Springhall, Lindsey.”

Her eyes widened. It’s already her turn? Wow, quite fast. And the unsorted girl walked quickly up to the front.

Was she afraid? Or was she nervous? Maybe, excited? Happy? It’s a mix of the all. Her future was quite unknown, and it might be determined by this hat — no not determined, only guided. Lindsey wanted to know about her house, so that she could have a basic peek at her own personality. Though she knew the hat couldn’t be accurate all the time, still, she wanted to know. But there’s an important thing. She had to be fully convinced. The cautious and proud girl could be only sorted into one house, and she needed to know that it was the best.

She took a seat in front of the students. Surprisingly, she wasn’t nervous or excited anymore. She just felt cool and calm. Very. Maybe that’s because she was actually presenting at the dream scene she dreamed so many times when she was very young, or maybe, she knew that she could get what she want.

“Ha, you are quite calm? Shouldn’t you be excited or something?” a voice started. That’s…the hat? She nearly forgot that it was already placed on her head. Ah, it must be it.

“No, sir…I was, but maybe not now…I think I would be quite calm to hear my result what ever it is…” she muttered. Her voice was low, but it’s enough for the hat to hear.

“Oh, really? Never mind, let’s see.” pleasantly it answered. “Agreed to begin?”

“Oh…okay…yeah.”

“Hmm, you are smart. Probably extremely intelligent. Seems that you had successfully inherited not only your mother’s facial appearance but her smartness too?” the hat started.

So…it’s going to sort her into Ravenclaw?? Wondered the girl. Ravenclaw sounded nice…but…she wanted to be unique, instead of “like your mother”.

“By the way, you seemed like a Mecmillan. All Ravenclaws. Heard that only female heirs may inherit the Mecmillan Castle, so that’s you, hmm? You don’t have any older sisters, do you?”

Mecmillan? Who…who’s tha…that? Why did she have connections with those people? That’s so…she didn’t even know them! And why she’s gonna inherit their family castle? Confusing…she knew nothing about it!

“What…what do you mean by that?”

“Ah, nothing. And no no wait. You lack creativity. Not really qualify for a typical Ravenclaw…but let’s see. Quite proud, competitive and ambitious…like your great grandfather and his father…”

The hat skipped the part. Weird…why? She didn’t know.

And, it started talking about her great — great grandfather? Who’s that? How come? And his father? Who were them? She had never met them, or even heard of them. It was like the upper generations in her family didn’t even existed. But now, the hat told her about them. And they seemed like in the house of Slytherin? But…grandpa Herbert told her they were Ravenclaw graduates, right?

“Sir…you might have mistaken…all of my family are in Ravenclaw…” she muttered, hoping the hat could say that it had indeed be mistaken.

To her surprise, the hat skipped the part of which house her family was in quickly again, and Lindsey was quite curious. Were there a…a secret? But no, definitely not…her grandfather would not lie. He would never, she knew it. So maybe the hat was not that intelligent and observant like before.

“Anyway, let’s get back to our topic. I see that you are kind. Very kind, probably. Never cunning, are you? So not Slytherin. Speaking of kind and friendly, what about Hufflepuff? You are very loyal in my opinion. And sympathetic.”

And the hat asked her about whether Hufflepuff fitted. Lindsey was surprised. Very surprised. “Huffle…puff? Sir, maybe…maybe not, alright? I…I want to be in Gryffindor…” She struggled. It seemed the hat had determined his decision. But…but she didn’t want to be in the “dumbest house”. She knew it was only a stereotype, but…

“Gryffindor? I couldn’t see enough courage though…you are adventurous and noble, but still some way away from the house of brave.” said the hat. “So, it seemed that we have decided?”

“Sir…sir?”

”HUFFLEPUFF!”

And there she was, sitting beside the table of yellow and back, as a new member of the house started by Helga Hufflepuff. To be honest, Lindsey was indeed a bit disappointed to not be in Gryffindor. But, after all, she’s the first badger in her family, even if you count the weird “Mecmillan” and weird great grandfather whom she knew nothing about, right? She was unique, after all.

Also, who said she couldn’t be the best in Hufflepuff? She could be the top in any houses, without a doubt. She could always shine brightly, and be the brightest star in the night sky.

Always.[/font]

Ileen was overwhelmed by the sight. Thousands of floating candles were spreading warm and welcoming light right under the ceiling which mirrored the night sky outside – that was the most magical thing she had ever seen in her entire life. The view was so magnificent she didn’t notice all the people sitting at the four long tables at first. The moment she did, she tightened her shoulders and defiantly raised her chin. Although she felt a little more comfortable with the presence of her new friend Dee beside her, she still felt the looks of the older students burning on her skin.
Relax, she commanded herself. They don’t know anything about me. Mum and Dad left a long time ago. They won’t even recognize the family name Knight. And if they know – well, I will just stay away from them.

While nervously waiting for her name to be called, she thought about the four houses. Both of her parents had been in Slytherin. They had never talked much about their school days, but Ileen knew that their best friends had been in Slytherin, too. and also that they had turned into their biggest enemies. But they had some friends and enemies in other houses as well. Maybe it didn’t matter which house she was sorted in. She clenched her hands into fists. No matter what, I will show them that I’m as good as anyone here. And then, they will leave me alone.

“Knight, Ileen!”

She flinched when her name was called. Before stepping up to the chair and the hat, she glanced suspiciously at the other children. She was searching for suspicion, dislike or rejection in their eyes. Before she could come to a conclusion, she had already reached the chair. She took the hat and put it on her head and sat down. Immediately it slipped over her eyes and darkness was around her. Her hands were shaking although she tried to stay calm. If it didn’t matter, why was she so nervous?
She remembered the story about the Sorting Hat her father had told her two days ago. Don’t worry about the sorting ceremony. The hat is wise and friendly. He will make the right choice for you.

Judged by a hat, huh? Maybe it has less prejudice than people. Even her thoughts were dry.
She flinched so hard she almost fell off the chair when a strange giggle appeared in her mind.
“I guess somebody didn't have a good experience being judged, huh?”
She recognized the voice of the hat and smiled. Judging people by their minds and morals is okay, I guess.
The hat giggled again. “You are funny and smart, but also fast in judging others. Hmm… ambitious to prove your worth…”
Ileen felt the blood rush to her cheeks. I need to do that, so I won’t get hurt , she tried to justify herself.
The hat ignored her protest and kept on talking in her mind. “I see great loyalty, helpfulness and a strong need to fit in.” He paused and as he continued talking Ileen got the feeling he was smiling. “You would use your cleverness and energy for supporting people who mean something to you… I think, I know where you can fight your inner enemies and find the support which will make you strong... SLYTHERIN !!”

Ileen heard the last words shouted into the Great Hall by the hat. The table decorated in green started to cheer for her as she stood up, placed the hat back on to the chair and walked towards her new house. She was happy. And worried. And confused. Was it good to be in the house her parents had been in? Would she meet some children of their enemies and former friends there?
It doesn’t matter, she reminded herself. She would prove that no one was defined by the past of their parents. And if they wouldn’t accept it, she still had Dee.
Almost at the Slytherin table she turned and searched for Dee in the small crowed of students, who were still waiting to be sorted. Ileen knew that Dee wanted to join Slytherin. And now, she hoped for that as well.

"Some people are in such utter darkness that they will burn you just to see a light."
Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020 Archived
Crystal was currently distracted by everything around her, not listening to all of the chatter of the sorting ceremony. Depending on how they red out the names it would be either a long time till her name was called or not long at all, so she did keep a small part of her attention on it. Just not as much to where she would be able to recall exactly what they were saying. There was too much going on around her anyways, so many people and such strange decor. I mean there were floating candles, who was even keeping those afloat? Were the permanently floating? Wh-

"Crystal Jagger?" Her name was called, probably more than once but she quickly pushed her way to the front of the crowd. She didn't really know too much about the houses, only that her mother was a Ravenclaw. But she didn't care much about whether she was put into the same house. Her mother made sure that crystal would know that she doesn't mind if she turns out to be a different house than Ravenclaw, even if it is her first choice.

She carefully sat down on the stool, this was kind of strange. She felt rather awkward, hoping that the hat wouldn't speak everything about her to everyone. She liked her thoughts staying in her head most of the time. To her relief, it seemed to speak quietly once it was placed on her head instead of the previous booming loud voice she heard while she was in thought.

"Quite interesting, you seem to have quite the love for exploring... Rather brave too, but only in certain situations it seems." The hat spoke, even with it being quieter the sound rebounded in her head like it was yelled out. She bit her lip slightly feeling nervous.

"You would do anything to help those you trust, once you trust them. You don't take kindly to others being harmed either, jumped in to defend others before I see." It kept talking. "Very bright as well, quite the problem solver. Very creative as well, you are an artist?" Crystal nodded very slightly, all too aware of the people around her watching. "You are one to always play fair, even in a fight you wouldn't want to cheat."

"I think I know just the place to put you," The hat raised its voice for all around to hear

"HUFFLEPUFF!"
