Lauren shuffled her feet as she left the Slytherin Common Room, still brushing her hair. She glanced around the corridor, dazed, as she picked up her Potions materials and wondered if anything would happen that day.
Lauren's Hogwarts life had been far from ordinary -- she had endured her siblings' taunts, her parent's final declaration of disowning her when they knew that she got into Slytherin. It was better than Ravenclaw, as far as she was concerned -- at least she didn't have to be bullied by her malicious siblings even in the common room. And she didn't want to share the same house as her family. In Lauren's world, they were pieces of garbage that consumed space which always attempted to injure her.
The previous night, Lauren had struggled to sleep peacefully, as always -- dreams invaded her. There was a snake -- a loyal one, it seemed, but next to it she could see her siblings' horror, and hear her parents' declaration that she, Lauren, must die. The last thing she remembered from her dream was a wand being pointed at her.
Lauren slapped her cheek, ushering herself back into reality. She was one step from being completely immersed in her thoughts and forgetting what she had to do now -- walk to Potions class. And she was almost late.
She ran through the dungeons, finally reaching the classroom where she was to have her Potions class. Annoyed with herself, Lauren slammed her books down onto a random empty table when she realised one thing.
She had completely forgotten to bring her cauldron. Instead, she had brought a whole heap of potato peelings.
