"Why does this keep happening to me?" Rosie muttered under her breath, feeling frustrated. She had managed to get lost for the-one, two, four, eight, she honestly had no clue-time this year! Somehow, she continued to lose her way in a school that had become her home for nearly the past year. She'd spent so much time just wandering around exploring or going to classes, yet she still managed to get lost!

It was the afternoon, and she had been trying to head to the Trophy Room. She'd once found her way in there, while lost after curfew, and got detention with this boy. She had finally gotten back her courage, yet she couldn't even figure out how to get there!

She decided to act as if she'd been trying to get to the Courtyard the entire time, going and sitting down, pulling out one of her class books to do a bit of studying. It was for Defense Against the Dark Arts, which she was really enjoying but found a bit difficult at times. Luckily for her, she loved to read, and knew that she'd be able to memorize whatever she needed to learn with just a few re-reads of the textbook. She'd read it twice so far, and as she opened it and began to look, she recognized many of the terms and spells, feeling quite proud.

Millard made his way to the courtyard with a huff and stomping feet. "Stupid Professor and pointless rules." he muttered. He had gotten dentention with this girl in his house but not his year (some 3rd year?). He swore in class

He hadn't meant to swear that loud in Defense Against the Dark Arts. It just sort of...happened. It wasn't his fault he pinched his hand in his textbook. The textbooks were heavy! He actually meant to swear in Scottish Gaelic but swore in English. Now Millard was stuck with extra homework for the class plus an essay.

Millard passed this girl reading a textbook for Defense Against the Dark Arts. Hey! That girl was in his house! He sat close to her and opened his own textbook for DADA. He took out his notebook (yes, notebook. Like Muggle supplies. He had parchment and quills. But his mother had bought him pens, pencils, erasers, a pencil case and notebooks.). Millard took out his pencil case and flipped to his DADA section in the note book. Margins decorated with little doodles and scribbles where he had tested the ink. Ah. Yes. This felt normal.

He started taking a few notes, stopping every once in a while to check on the girl beside him. She looked spaced out, but Millard knew how that felt so he didn't say anything.

I came out of my History of Magic Class, which always felt longer than it actually was. I liked the topics we studied but it was too hard to remember everything. Potions and DADA, I found them to be the easiest. I decided to go to the courtyard to get some fresh air. I had a free period, after which it was herbology.

The courtyard seemed well in use. The floor, though cleaned regularly, still had footprints of students all over, in direct contrast to the Majestic fountain in the centre. I walked around in the courtyard looking for something interesting, or perhaps someone to talk to. I noticed large groups mingling and wasn't so confident about joining them. What I needed was a smaller group of friends, one I'd really enjoy being with.

Then, I noticed two Slytherins sitting on a bench with a DADA textbook in hand. Hmm... they seem like nice folk, maybe I should talk to them. I was a bit hesitant, but I then approached the two and sat next to them. I said, "Heyy guys. I hope I'm not disturbing you. I'm Avery Abernathy. What are your names? Do you mind if I join you guys?"

Millard looked up from his textbook when he heard footsteps, a little surprised. Huh? Who was this? Millard's dark brown eyes scanned the girl over as she walked over. A Gryffindor, first year too probably. Judging by her tie. Brown hair, brown eyes, caramel skin, long lashes and full lips. Millard had to admit, she wasn't that bad looking. He realized he'd been staring and looked away quickly. Oops....awkward

Millard marked his page in his textbook, finishing the note he was on. He listened quietly as she introduced herself. Avery Abernathy was the girl's name....he should introduce himself, right? He really didn't know, he usually didn't do talking. Even back home in Scotland. It was just never his thing.

He realized he had gone silent and quickly spoke up. "I'm Millard MacLeod." he introduced. And about joining them....Millard turned his head to the girl next to him. She had dirty blonde hair highlighted pink at the ends, a pretty cute style. Should he dye his hair? Maybe...oh shoot! Millard had gotten side tracked....he also didn't even know that girl's name. She didn't seem to mind him sitting there so maybe she wouldn't mind Avery joining them.

He assumed it was fine if Avery joined them, she seemed nice.
"Yeah, sure." Millard said.

The boy looked up from his DADA textbook and replied, "I'm Millard Macleod". He looked at the Slytherin girl next to him, and then turned back to me. For my question about joining them, he said, "Yeah, sure". I was overjoyed. I smiled warmly at the boy and said, "Thanks".

I realised that I hadn't really thought of what to say to them. I was bad at making conversation, especially small talk. I didn't want to embarrass myself or make make the situation awkward for us. So, I started to think quickly about what I could say to him. Luckily, he seemed patient enough. I quickly decided on what to say, and struck him with a few basic questions.

"So Millard, Are you a first year? I think I've seen you around a couple of times. And how's your day been? Mine's been quite hectic. I just came out of History of Magic."

As I awaited his reply I turned to look at the Slytherin girl with beautiful dirty blonde hair dyed pink at the tips. I spoke to her with a friendly smile, "Hey there, What's your name? Are you a first year too? I love your hair by the way."
I patiently waited for both their replies.

"Oh, hi there, both of you! Sorry, I spaced out for a bit. My name is Rosie, Rosie Willows! It's so nice to meet you both." Rosie said, coming-to from her little zone-out, and noticing the two fellow first-years sitting next to her.

She had heard their introductions, as Millard and Avery. They both looked rather nice, and she was perfectly fine with the two of them sitting there with her.

"Yeah, I am a first year! And thank you so much! I dyed my hair a couple months ago, but the curls and colour, minus the pink, are all natural!" Rosie said, reaching up to tug on a curl, the way she liked to fidget occasionally.

"My day's been pretty good, just a bit busy. I had Herbology, then Potions, then Defense Against the Dark Arts! I like all of my classes though, so it's all good!" she said, thinking back to all of the fun things she'd learned throughout the day.

"I gather that you both are firsties too? This school is so much fun, isn't it! I know it's been months since we first got here, but I still feel like I learn something new every day!" she said.

Hi, guys! Just a quick OOC note for you, Millard! Rosie has only ever had one detention, which was with a boy a while back. I'm not quite sure then what you mean by the 'girl from detention', since they wouldn't have met there and she's only had one!

Millard propped his notebook on his knees. How to describe his day...um...well, he slept in, missed a bit of his first class. Then there's the DADA detention....oh, and the water ruined notes from Herbology.

"I've had a....interesting day." Millard decided on saying. Not exactly a lie but not exactly the truth.

Now about Hogwarts...where did he start? It was awesome! "It's defiently been amazing here. The classes are a bit much, and there's a lot to do. But it's worth it."

Millard spun his pencil around his fingers. His uncle was a hair dresser, could he dye Millard's hair? Would his mom even let him? It'd look cool..but still. Millard spaced out, drifting in his thoughts.

Millard snapped out of it when he realized he was staring at his knees like they were the most interesting thing ever. Heh, heh....whoops. He might as well say something more. He thought he remembered seeing Rosie at his house table this morning. Was she? "Hey, Rosie. Are you in Slytherin too?" Millard asked.

Now that he thought about it? Why were Rosie and Avery even in the courtyard? Not that he had an issue. He was just geniuely curious. He knew he had come just for a bit of fresh air. "Oh, if you guys don't mind me asking. Why are you here? I don't have an issue or anything," Millard added quickly, just to make it clear he was just curious. "I'm just asking."

Millard told me with a bit of hesitation, "I've had an... interesting day." He further added that hogwarts was hectic, but he found the classes and the work they give as a bit much, but worth it. I replied, "Yeah, I love this place too. Hogwarts is very unique. It has a lot of underlying mystery too, some dating all the way back to the dark times. By the way have you checked out the viaduct, it's got a magnificent view?"

The other girl introduced herself as Rosie Willows. She was a first year too. She said that besides the pink colour in her hair, which she had dyed a couple months ago, her curls and blonde hair were natural. "Wow!! That's amazing", I replied.

She further added that her day was a bit busy but good. She'd had Herbology, Potions, then DADA. I said, "That's nice, I had Potions, Charms, and History. I have a free period right now, then it's Herbology."

She then asked, "I gather that you both are firsties too? This school is so much fun, isn't it! I know it's been months since we first got here, but I still feel like I learn something new every day!" I replied, "Yeah, I'm a firstie. I agree, this school is rather extraordinary. I hope you guys don't find me weird for asking but have you guys heard of the secret passageways in hogwarts, or have you ever come across one? I've been looking for quite a while."

Millard had been silent for some time. He then asked what brought us to the courtyard. To which I replied, "Well, I came out for some fresh air. I had History of Magic you see, and it's not entirely boring.... but the class and the subject is quite tiring." I further added, "I can't help noticing your notebook and pencils Millard, are you a muggleborn? Not that I mind btw."

Millard blushed a bit at Avery's notice. "Uh, yes. I'm Muggleborn. My mum bought me pencils and notebooks and a bunch of other Muggle things." He felt a bit insecure and hugged the supplies closer to his chest on instinct.

He felt his mood lighten as he took in the other things Avery had said. "I'm also here for some fresh air." he left out the detail about his detention.

"I agree, History of Magic is a bit...exhausting. And Hogwarts is really interesting. It's old. But good old. Like, you can feel the people who were here before." He added.

Then his mind drifted to what Avery said about passageways and short cuts. Millard knew all the passageways and shortcuts in castle. If there was one thing he was good at, it was mapping Hogwarts. "Oh yeah! I do. I'm pretty good at navigating the castle. I think I know all the shortcuts."

Well, maybe there were some he didn't know. The castle was ever changing, after all(last week, he nearly was late to Herbology due to a shifted staircase And a missing step). And with Millard constantly sneaking around the castle, he was sure a Profesor or two (or more, with his luck) had been notified. So maybe, some were cut off or closed. Now that Millard thought about it....and...he spaced out again.

"It is a bit much, but I agree, it's totally worth it." Rosie said, understanding exactly what Miller meant. Just because it was a lot of fun, getting to learn about magic, didn't mean that it was always easy.

"Yeah, I am a Slytherin! And I was trying to get to the Trophy Room but I lost my way, and ended up here." she said, her face flushing a little bit as she revealed her true reasoning.

"No, Avery, I haven't seen the Viaduct yet! Though I do want to at some point. And thank you! I hope you enjoy Herbology, it's my personal favourite class." she said, hoping that the girl would have a lot of fun.

"Secret Passageways? Well, I have heard of them before, but never found them. One time though, I found this strange room. I was walking around one of the floors, I can't remember which, and suddenly a door appeared. I was having a panic attack, and the door just kind of existed suddenly. It was pretty cool!" she said, recounting the memory.

"History of Magic is a bit of a tiring subject. I've never been a huge History fan, but at least this one is a lot more interesting than History was at my Muggle school!" she said, remembering all of the boring lectures she'd had to sit through in the past.

"You're a Muggleborn, Millard? That's so cool, me too! I have some Muggle supplies in my trunk, I just didn't bring any with me in my bag today." she said, surprised to have found another Muggle-born Slytherin randomly like this.

"I'm horrible at navigating the school! Or anything, really." she said, knowing full well that she got lost way too often.
