Tears of Fire book
CHAPTER 1-PART-1
Ruby couldn't breathe. Her vision was blurry, and her heartbeat sounded like an entire earthquake, as she watched the ashes. This....couldn't be right, it just couldn't be real. It felt like a stone had been hurled at her to take away her will from living. Her world...he had just gone.
Her dad, her best friend, her sole reason for being who she was. The person who had taught her to walk, to talk, to do almost everything. And now, she was supposed to just let go? To a whole lifetime worth of memories?
She rested her head on her mother's shoulder, tears falling from her face. She still couldn't accept it, no, something seemed off. How does someone suddenly just- disappear?
The timings didn't match either, it didn't make sense. He was laughing and teasing her just one day back, what had happened to make him do such a thing and vanish? Vanish, that would be the word she would use. Not dead. She couldn't even utter it.
The police had been here for a while now. Up till now, all they had found was his study room completely wrecked and a single note, "I'm sorry."
What was that supposed to mean? He just couldn't get up and leave. There had to be something that prompted it. Had someone threatened him? Had there been an incident she wasn't aware of?
But why was that serious enough to make him disappear? And so suddenly? If it was something related to money, he would have been stressed out a few days prior. But he was his happy, jolly self, and she didn't take notice if he was acting strange.
The police searched every corner of the house for clues, looking around to find anything of importance as to where he was.
They hadn't found anything, his wallet was kept at home, along with his handkerchief and everything else he carried around.
These people couldn't help. They would proclaim him missing, or worse, the d word.
SHE was going to find him. She just didn't know how.
