The Gryffindor Table 2025-2026

This was very new to Paul. Magic was new. He had no idea what to expect from a wizarding school. Perhaps, some ghosts? Or self-adding drinks? All that seemed to be the matter here. Upon entering the Great Hall, he, again, looked up to check what the ceiling looked like today. It was impressive. One of the plethora of amazing things he has been a witness to at Hogwarts so far.

He rushed to the Gryffindor table, sitting down somewhere opposite Eric. He couldn't wait for the food. He was normally looking forward to any sort of it served to him. Considering the greatness of every aspect of this school, he assumed the food would be no less great. He reached for what seemed to be an orange juice to start with. After the first sip, his lips twisted in a grimace. It was sweet but the taste apparently wasn't what he expected to be. He managed to swallow, but the grimace now resided on his face.

"Ugh... what on earth was that?" He took the cup again, inspecting the liquid in it, smelling it and tasting it again, with the tip of his tongue. "Weird. It tasted like... some vegetable, but dunno which."

Choosing not to finish the strange drink, Paul starts with the food, listening to his housemates' conversation. After the girl's question, he merely just humms: "Well, I don't know many people here yet. And I'm still getting to know... um, everything, trying not to look that stunned, which I am." Replied the boy, smirking. "You?"

When the ginger boy says it's more than he expected, Paul nods, agreeing.

"Yeah... way more. It's almost overwhelming."

Paul chose to go silent then, cutting the meat in order to take his first morsel of his chicken steak.

The Gryffindor Table 2025-2026
G., the Boy Who Ate
Date: September 1st, 2025
Time: Evening

After thanking Headmaster Solomon, G. walked past a hundred – what seemed like thousands of students – over to the Gryffindor table. He noticed the relief of those already sorted and sitting at respective tables, and the tense anticipation of those whose lives were about to be determined forever.

G. made light eye contact and gave a subtle nod of gratitude to students as he made his way to his house’s table. He picked an open seat and casually sat down. Several of the more social students were already engaged in conversation, exchanging names and chatting.

He observed the table, noticing the magnificent feast laid out in front of him. His stomach rumbled, and he realized he hadn’t eaten anything that day. This was not unusual. G. and his friends would go out skateboarding from morning to night, and forget to eat due to being totally absorbed in their hobby. With the novel experiences G. had today, from Platform 9 3/4s, to the train ride, to the boat across the lake to the castle, and now the Sorting Ceremony, there had been more interesting things to think about than food. But now, he felt the whirlwind of today coming to a close, and it was time to eat.

He grabbed a plate, and while loading up food, he casually glanced around the table, with a calm demeanor. “Sup, I’m G.”

The Gryffindor Table 2025-2026

After removing the Sorting Hat, Bartholomew started to walk towards his new home—Gryffindor table. Looking from the entrance Gryffindor table was the farthest. To reach there he had to cross all of the other three houses' long tables of Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. At every table students were talking with each other about different types of spells, wands, professors and most importantly school rules, but Bartholomew's observant eyes looked up. Great Hall's enchanted ceiling was looking like an open sky which mirrors the outside weather. Looking at the star filled ceiling, he was reminded of his grandmother's house in the Muggle world, where he had developed his musical skills while sitting under the stars.

When he reached the final table, students sitting in Gryffindor robes which were black from outside and scarlet red & golden from inside, welcomes him with so many claps or cheerful noises. He was not able to understand why those people were getting so excited about him. He thought they might know his parents who were also Gryffindors. However, those loud noises were a bit strange for his calm nature, but this time he didn't dislike that chaos. That was like a melody full of chaotic but happiness. He quickly found a quiet peaceful place and sat on the bench.

As soon as he sat down, he saw a feast of strange and amazing dishes spread out on the table. He frustratedly pushed back his messy black hair, which kept falling over his eyes, as usual wishing he could learn a spell to make his hair obedient. Leaving his favourite cozy music room had been very hard for him, but the warmth of the table provided him with some comfort. He looked at the other first years and passed them a nervous but genuine smile. He hadn't started a conversation with anyone yet, but he was absorbing that new environment and new magic sitting calmly.

The thundering applause that followed his Sorting began to turn into a symphony of smiles and greetings as Evander made his way towards the Gryffindor table. The students at the table made space for him to sit and introduced themselves to him amidst masticating mouthfuls of supper and some light-hearted jokes. Greeting each of them with a courteous smile and "Thank you!" he found himself seated at the empty place, gazing around at all the wonderful excitement surrounding him.

The table looked endless, brimming with roast chicken, buttered potatoes, honeyed carrots, steaming bread and more varieties of desserts than he thought a single castle could have produced. He had never seen a table like this before – even though there were plenty of lavish meals served at the Beauchamp manor. It was simply too perfect, free of constraints. Laughter rang out in the hall unhindered, conversations continued amidst utter disregard for perfect manners and no one bothered about spilling goblets or making mess on the tablecloth.

Perfection was no longer the prerequisite here. Before taking a warm roll of bread for his dinner, he would make sure that he was taking only small servings of food. As he ate, he discovered that he found himself listening much more than talking, memorizing names, faces, and stories being told. It should have seemed very alien to him.

However, with people welcoming him as if he belonged to them from the beginning, Hogwarts Castle was slowly starting to feel like his home.
