Finally.

As Lauren pulled her trunk further down the Hogwarts Express, she came upon a compartment that appeared to be empty. She checked for any signs of Ravenclaw robes (which belonged to her so-called superior siblings), found that there were none, and tapped the door curtly. Hearing no reply, Lauren pushed her trunk into the compartment, and sat down on the opposite end of it.

Other First Years' hearts would be pounding with excitement upon reaching the Hogwarts Express, and, after that, Hogwarts. Their hearts would leap with joy if a potential friend would walk into their compartment and do so much as to share a chocolate frog and a box of every flavour beans. But not Lauren. She was simply glad to escape from her abusive parents, her malicious siblings, and jeering relatives.

Earlier that day, her mother, Sabrina Vanes, had pulled a huge chunk of her hair off to prevent her from attracting other students. She simply wanted Lauren to continue being hated and unloved, even in Hogwarts, to evoke a sense of shamefulness for being an outlier in her family. Normal. It wasn't just her; everyone in her family hated her, wanted her to suffer, wanted her life to be more miserable than someone who just lost their soulmate. Every single day. But they had made one mistake -- did it so many times as to get Lauren used to it.

Lauren tapped her feet on the bare floor of the Hogwarts Express in irritation as she recalled the memories. She curled her lip in disgust as she recalled her sister Arianna's attempted prank a year ago, on her tenth birthday, which had nearly cost Lauren her life. Why did they hate her so much, though? Why couldn't they just let her be? What did she even do, in the first place, to deserve this?

Maybe this is all your fault, a voice in her head said. Maybe they only did this to you because you--

NEVER!

As she screamed at the voice in her head, trying to vanquish the doubts that she, Lauren, was the one in the wrong, instead of her family. She hated them so, and hoped with all her heart that she was indeed right, that she hadn't done anything wrong, and that it all was blindness and foolishness in her family's part. Yet, something inside her told her that it wasn't true. It was true that her family was evil, and had negative intents. But it didn't necessarily mean that Lauren wasn't.

As she put down her comb, she came to a conclusion: she hated - no, she should - hate Ravenclaws. Everyone in her family was a Ravenclaw, except Aunt Loratrix. And Aunt Loratrix was the only person in her family that she didn't hate.

No, not quite. She still loathed her aunt for her desperate attempt to persuade her that she should forgive the Vanes family and pretend that nothing had happened. It wasn't right for her to stick her nose on Lauren's boundaries and personal issues with her family. And her aunt oughted to understand. She had gone through... similar things, though Lauren privately thought that none of it was as worse as what Lauren experienced. There was no proof, however.

She still felt an undeniable surge of anger towards the Vanes family. They were Ravenclaws. The people who had ruined her life. Despite her doubt, one belief would always be truer than ever -- she should never forgive them, and therefore Ravenclaws. Her family valued being a Ravenclaw above all else. Fine. She would hate Ravenclaws above all else. Her rebellion was kicking in, and Lauren smiled. She would make it her mission to show the whole of Hogwarts the entirety of the Vanes family's cruelty.

She kept a close eye on the door, aware that her siblings might storm into the compartment and attempt to bully their way into making her feel unpopular or worthless, and ruin her day.

I'm finally back to Hogwarts! Cassie shouts happily in her mind.

She has been absent from school for nearly a whole year, during which she went to China with her parents and relieved her stress. She takes her luggage and walks through the wall to the Hogwarts Express, with a huge grin on her face. Feeling energetic, she puts on her Ravenclaw school robe. It has been so long since she last wore it at school, and she really misses her old friends and the nights she spent on her four-post bed on that tall west tower. And it is all coming back to her again.

Not out of her surprise, she spots some of her old day friends, but none came to talk to her. Over the past year, they must have began many new friendships and experienced many new adventures without her prescence. It's alright, Cassie thinks to herself, just treat it as a brand new start.

Putting some bags of chocolate frogs in her pocket, she boards the train, eager to meet new friends. Maybe the journey will be unforgettable. She will share sweets, talk about her experience last year and make new friends.

Standing by the nearest compartment, she knocks on the door and enters. There is only one student inside right now. Probably a first year. 'Hi! I am Cassie Jiang, a third year Ravenclaw! Would you mind if I sit here?' she says as she lays her luggage on the ground. The train is about to leave.

It was finally time to board the train. It took a while for Ava to gather her courage and let her father's hand go. She is old enough to go and study at Hogwarts. Isn't this something she had wanted all this time? Then, where does this sudden anxious feeling come from? Her mother was trying her best to calm her down.

The seer took a deep breath, finally setting her foot on the train. She turned back to wave a tiny goodbye to her parents. Her mother looked like she was really emotional. She smiled at her emotionally dramatic mother.

She found a compartment where a young blonde was sitting, and another older girl who was wearing the school robes was standing. She slowly made her way to the doorway of the compartment. She heard the older girl talk, Cassie Jiang, a third-year Ravenclaw. "H-Hey! Can I come in, too? If it's not too crowded?" The seer asked, a bit tensed.

Now that she looked closely, the older girl was part of Ravenclaw, the same house as her father. She smiled, wondering which she would be sorted into. Everyone in her family thinks she would be a great choice for Hufflepuff. But Ava didn't want to think about raising expectations for her. Whatever house she gets into, the only thing she wishes for is not to be lonely there.

Ravenclaw?

Fury surged through Lauren, so she didn't bother listen to the rest of girl's introduction, and completely forgot her name. How dare someone else attempt to enter her private area -- and a Ravenclaw too! With any luck, it would be her petty older sister, Arianna, probably begging for a seat because her friends deserted her. Well, I guess malevolent Ravenclaws are always lonely. Even getting one friend might be too hard for you! she sneered.

All the doubt she felt earlier had worn off her, and now she could only feel a cold satisfaction as she pictured her older sister moping around in the train without any compartment to sit on, begging random first years to let her sit in their compartment, all the while tugging her bulky trunk around the place, polluting the floor of the train with the extreme amount of dirt that covered her trunk. She imagined the train lady shouting at her on the top of her lungs, shoving her to the ground and forcing her to clean up her mess.

No. That was way too good to be true. And, currently, whatever Arianna's situation was right now was irrelevant to what was happening right in front of me. Arianna -- or whoever that freaking Ravenclaw was -- would be right in front of my compartment door waiting impatiently, probably deciding that I'm asleep or something. And I need to let her know that she's not welcome, or someone else might barge in here again. I don't want her -- or anyone -- disturbing my rightful peace.

Taking her time, Lauren moved over to the compartment door, then, gathering her energy, yanked it open with all her might. The Ravenclaw looked like a third year at first glance -- the same year her sister Arianna was in.

That only made Lauren's insides burn with even more intense rage. But she had to keep her cool, or she would be known in school as "the girl who shouted at her sister with no reason". What an amazing name.

Without even glancing at the Ravenclaw's face, Lauren started to speak, apparently deciding that it was her sister waiting outside the door. "Your petty Ravenclaw friends abandoned you, didn't they? Felix won't talk to you because he's way too popular and he doesn't want immature younger sisters barging into his compartment? And, despite the many times you bullied me, you still expect me to welcome you and treat you like some guest? No, that's too late. GO MIND YOUR BUISNESS, I DON'T FREAKING CARE WHETHER YOU FIND A COMPARTMENT OR NOT! Mirrors how you treated me in the past better, doesn't it?"

Lauren smirked, waiting for the Ravenclaw (or her sister, as she thought) to answer. She longed to hear her horror, sense her fear of being the outcast, and listen to her defeated sigh.

Cassie is shocked when the first year looks up at her, turns her head away and starts talking in anger. She stands by the compartment door, frozen as she listens to what the first year is talking about. She is at a loss and confused at the same time. At first, she thinks that the girl is just being rude. The words about Cassie's friends abandoning her really hurts. Cassie is indeed worried about her old day friends leaving her. Is it possible for her to make new friends after being a year absent? She does not know.

But she soon realizes that the girl isn't even talking at her. Who is Felix? And how on earth could Cassie have bullied a girl whom she has never met before? This girl must be crazy! Cassie wonders.

After the girl's shouts end, Cassie stands in quietness for a few seconds, hoping to regain her power of speech. She notices that another young student, another first year is by the compartment door. That girl seems friendlier. Anyway, Cassie doesn't want to make her first interaction with a new student a total failure, so she puts up a smile on her face again.

Hoping to sound as friendly as possible, Cassie says in a soft voice. 'Excuse me, but I don't really quite get what you're talking about. I don't know Felix. I'm sorry to know that you were bullied by someone else but...' she stops to organize her words. She hopes that the girl can realize that Cassie is friendly and be kind to her too.

The sudden insults and anger towards the older Ravenclaw scared Ava to the core. The first compartment she decided to sit in was quite creating a scene she did not want to be a part of.

The Seer backed away a little, not wanting to be at the end of her screaming. Ava wasn't sure what was going on between them. Did they know each other? Did the older girl really bully the younger one? Before, the seer could come to any judgements, the Ravenclaw replied in a softer tone. She wasn’t the person the other girl was calling her. Looks like it's all a misunderstanding, or is it?

Ava was confused, looking at both the girls turn by turn, not sure if she should intervene or not. "Uhm. . . I think. . . We should calm down. . .?" The brunette wasn’t sure if she should have said something or not, the previous scream had already shaken up the girl.

Ava wasn't much of a confrontational type of person, she was scared of it. Some would even call her a coward, but she just shrugs it off and calls it a survival instinct. And at this time, her survival instincts are screaming at her to just leave and find another compartment. But she was scared to move and catch the blonde's attention on her.

She wasn't Arianna?

She looked up at the Ravenclaw questioningly, and realised for the first time that she looked different from Arianna. Not just different. Her voice was also different -- it didn't contain the taunting and teasing which was present in her sister's voice. Which was a good thing. She'd heard enough to last the rest of her life.

But that wasn't the point. She had wrongly accused a passer-by Ravenclaw of such great crimes. And she guessed that she owed her an apology.

But she's a Ravenclaw! she exclaimed to herself. You shouldn't apologize to Ravenclaws -- look at your family! Nasty beasts, always seeking for a chance to make your life miserable! Maybe ALL Ravenclaws are like that -- you really shouldn't trust them!

But what if not all Ravenclaws are like your family members? Will you only hand out with Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs and Slytherins in Hogwarts? You'll have to make friends -- you always call Arianna friendless, but being mean to Ravenclaws will only make you friendless! What will your others friends think of you? They might start to hate you because of your discrimination against Ravenclaws! You've got no proof that all of them are mean and crappy and petty! Maybe your best friend might end up to be a Ravenclaw!

Hesitantly, Lauren opened her mouth. She really didn't want to make the other first-year along the doors of her compartment to think of her as spoiled and rude. She had to make a good impression! And right now, that mattered more than the hostility she felt towards Ravenclaws. Her first day at Hogwarts couldn't ruin her life!

Don't let your family ruin your life, remember? she reminded herself. If you're mean to Ravenclaws just because of them, then they've won! Remember what happened in Platform nine and three-quarters -- you told Aunt Loratrix that you didn't care about them, and that you believed they were just trying to make you depressed and lonely, with no loved ones to turn to. You must show them they're wrong, and when you're capable of it, seek revenge!

But then the worst thought of all entered her mind. What if I'm a Ravenclaw? It's not like I hate books and studies and everything associated with Ravenclaws. If I'm a Ravenclaw, then I'll just be as bad as my family, even though they might not be that hostile towards me after that. I hope I get into Slytherin with Aunt Loratrix!

But there was a chance that she would get into Ravenclaw, after all. Which meant that she had to pretend to be nice to the Third-Year to prevent the possibility of her getting too mad about her rudeness and decide to tell all of Ravenclaw about it. If that happens, that girl and Arianna would likely become best friends, which would be equivalent to jumping off the roof of her house.

Trying not to sound as rude as she previously was, Lauren grudgingly apologized. "I'm really sorry, I just got immersed in my thoughts and forgot that I'm surrounded by people. Here, take a seat. And... and you too." She nodded to the other first year farther from her compartment door, and moved her trunk towards the window to make room. "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean it," she apologized one last time, hoping that her first impression on those two girls wouldn't be one of a brat's.
