The Burn and the Buddy
@Mirada Johnson3/17/26"Ow! Dang it, that hurt!" Rosalyn said, quickly pulling her hand away. She was in her dorm, trying to light a candle because she felt like reading with candlelight rather than the big lights turned on. She had accidentally blocked the flame from her view, though, so when she lit it she couldn't see, and therefore didn't pull her hand back in time.
Though she had burned herself before, she didn't want it to get infected or something, and she was out of band-aids(her parents bought them from the US when they visited last year, a whole load of them) at the moment, so she figured it would be a good idea to just have someone more professional than her check it, just to make sure that she was fine.
She walked in, looking for someone to talk to. She spotted someone she knew from a run in while in the Great Hall, Mirada! She didn't know if the girl remembered her, but she didn't look like she was doing anything else and did look like she was interning there, so Rosie decided to go to her for some help.
"Hey, Mirada! Do you think you could help me real quick? I got burned on a candle, not much, and I was just hoping you could check and make sure that everything's all good!" she said, walking up to her.

The Burn and the Buddy

It was my first day as an intern in the hospital wing, and I was standing around, looking for something to do. Everyone who was in there currently was being cared for, and I didn't want to get in the way.
Then, I heard footsteps, and heard my name being called. I spun around on my heel, and saw that it was a first year, who I vaguely recognised. It took me a few moments before I realised who it was - Rosie, who I'd chatted to a little bit while stuck behind a crowd in the Great Hall.
I listened as she said that she'd burnt herself on a candle, and wanted me to check if it was okay. My eyes widened.
"Umm... okay. It's my first time helping out here, though."
I thought about what to do, not quite sure what was the best way to deal with the injury.
"Do you want to... come and sit on one of the beds?"
I started walking towards the bed, beckoning her to follow me, before realising that I hadn't even checked how bad a burn it was, as, even though Rosie said that it was fine, I knew that she might be lying, trying to make it seem better than it actually was.
"Can I see your hand? What were you doing with the candle when it got burnt?"
The Burn and the Buddy
@Mirada Johnson3/17/26"Sure thing!" Rosie said, following a beckoning Mirada to one of the beds. She didn't need to lay down because it really wasn't that serious, so she just sat on the side of it, facing the other girl.
"Don't worry, it's really not that bad. I just maybe need a band-aid or something, and a double-check so I don't have to worry about it." she said, pulling up the sleeve of her robes to reveal the really not a big deal burn and keep the fabric out of the way of the new intern's sight.
"What was I doing? Oh, I was just trying to light the candle and accidentally didn't see it was lit, so my hand touched it." she says, absently kicking her feet a bit from slight boredom. She didn't want to be doing this, but if she had to, at least it was someone she semi-knew helping her out.
"So, how's school been? Enjoying the second semester? I'm so glad spring is about to begin!" she said, trying to start up a bit of a conversation so this wasn't all business.
The sweater sleeve slipped from her fingers, temporarily covering the burn. When it rubbed up against the burn it did rather hurt, so she pulled it back up with her un-burnt left hand.
The Burn and the Buddy

I was glad that Rosie was following my instructions - I didn't want to have to deal with an extremely stubborn person who refused to listen to me.
I looked at the burn on her hand, and saw that, although it wasn't particularly bad, as injuries went, it would still be a bit sore for a while.
When she said that it wasn't too bad, and probably just needed a plaster, I looked up at her, and spoke in my normal quiet voice.
"We're at Hogwarts. Plasters are never the answer."
I thought for a few seconds, before saying, "I'll just be a few seconds."
I went over to the Nurse, and said, "Excuse me. Rosalyn has burnt her hand. Is there any burn-healing paste?"
I got given a small pot of it, and then I went back over to Rosie. I listened to what she was saying as I unscrewed the lid of the pot.
"Oh, yeah, lessons have been okay. How have your's been?"
I had finally managed to unscrew the lid of the pot, so I held it up, and said, "This is a burn healing paste."
I took a bit out, and spread it over her burn.
"That should heal it. Have you learnt about healing potions yet?"

@Mirada Johnson3/17/26"Really? I've been using them for the majority of the year, it just saves some time." Rosie said to Mirada's comment about plasters never being the answer. They could be, sometimes, when Rosie didn't want to bother someone else.
She waited for a moment as Mirada went to check with the Nurse, and saw as Mirada got handed a little pot of something. Burn-Healing Paste, she assumed. She'd learned about it in Potions class, but didn't have the things to brew it in her dorm room. Well, she supposed she could have figured it out, but it wasn't worth the attempt.
"I'm glad! Mine have been good too, I've learned a whole lot!" she said as Mirada came back over.
"Yes, I have! I know how to brew it, but didn't know if that'd be the best idea right now." she said, feeling the paste spread across the burn. It immediately felt a bit better, which was most certainly a good thing.
"How long have you been wanting to intern here? You mentioned that it's your first day, but I assume you've wanted this for a bit longer than that!" Rosie asked, curious about how long it had taken her to get to this point. She seemed good at this whole healing thing, so Rosie was glad Mirada was in her element and doing what she was clearly good at.

I smiled at Rosie saying that her classes had also been good. Lessons at Hogwarts were always good, particually as a girl from a non-magical family. Although, I did miss the lessons we used to do outside in the summer back at my primary school.
"Is it feeling better?" I asked after I spread out the paste on Rosie's hand, "It might take a few minutes to fully heal, but it should be fine as long as you don't itch or scratch it."
I listened to Rosie's question, before thinking for a few moments.
"Well, the funny thing is, I don't really want to be a healer. I would much prefer to be a teacher, although my parents are, and they say it's a rubbish job, or I could be an athlete, if I ever get onto the broom racing team. But, I am getting more keen on the idea of being an auror, and for that, I am almost certain you need even a little bit of healing experience, in case anything goes wrong."
I paused for a few seconds. Rosie probably would be okay to go by now, but I wanted to make sure that I'd healed it properly, which would mean that she needed to stay for a few more minutes.
"Do you need to be anywhere soon, or are you okay to stay for about five more minutes, just while I make sure the paste worked?"
I paused for her to answer, before thinking of another question.
"What sort of job do you want to have when you leave Hogwarts?"

@Mirada Johnson3/17/26"Ahhh, yes, thank you." Rosie said, feeling the paste begin to make her burn feel better. She hadn't realized how much it really was hurting after all, too filled with adrenaline, I suppose.
Though, the second Mirada said not to scratch it, she immediately began feeling it itch. Oh, why'd she say that, now she would be fixated on it! It would take all of her self control to not scratch it now.
"Well, I think you'd be excellent at whatever job you choose! I've heard of Aurors as well, and that's one I'm debating on too. Who knows, I suppose I'll just see when the time comes!" Rosie said, still focused on not itching her arm.
"Oh, no, I'm fine! I can stay." she said, perfectly fine with Mirada keeping an eye on the burn to make sure the paste worked.
"Well, as I said, an Auror is definitely one I want to look into. Being a Professor would also probably be very fun, or maybe a shopkeeper! So many choices!" she said, listing all of the future occupations she'd been considering.
Finally, she felt the itchy feeling begin to go away, and she was quite glad that it was. It would really suck if she had to wait a long time without being allowed to scratch it as she felt the need to!

"Thanks." It was very kind of Rosie to say that I would be good at any job. I thought she would be a good auror, slightly clumsy, but surely she could learn to not be. She would be an amazing professor too - I could see her teaching young witches and wizards.
"What lesson would you want to teach? If I taught, it would probably be history of magic or flying."
It was very useful that she was able to stay, as I wanted to make sure that she would definetly be okay, and that she wasn't allergic to the paste, something which I thought would be unlikely, but bad if it was true.
After a few moments longer, I took her hand, and examined it - it looked much better already.
"Thank goodness that was only a small burn. Otherwise, the paste might not have worked. I'm not quite sure about the limits of it." That would be an interesting thing to research in the library. Although, not tonight.
“Do you have any plans for the evening?”
I did, although they weren’t very exciting. I was going to curl up with Isis, and find a random book on the bookshelves in the dorm.
“I think you are okay to go, if you want to.”

"Of course!" Rosie replied to Mirada's thanks. She didn't need the appreciation though, as she was just saying the truth of the matter.
"History and Flying are both a lot of fun, when taught right! Ooh, let me think. Nah, I'm just kidding, I already know! Herbology, definitely. I could maybe do Potions or Charms, but Herbology would one-hundred percent be my first choice. Getting to teach young students about the magic of plants? Yes please!" she said, already thinking about what she'd want to teach students. Mandrakes, obviously. Some of the more dangerous plants later on, of course. Perhaps a lesson at some point on Muggle plants, and their similarities to magical ones! The options and ideas she had were endless.
"I know, right! I'm not quite sure the paste's limits either, but I'm glad it wasn't huge or anything." she said, letting out a small sigh of relief.
"No, not really! Probably just studying in my dorm, or getting a new book from the Library!" she said, already looking forward to getting to relax without the burn bothering her too much.
"Alright! Thank you again so much, I really appreciate it! Best of luck with your job!!!" Rosie said enthusiastically, giving her friend a hug before hopping up and heading out, ready to spend the rest of her day relaxing.
