That morning marked the beginning of a new day, and a new story awaited everyone sleeping in the Hogwarts Castle. The first-year students were starting their journeys as wizards and witches, the others continuing theirs, professors teaching new students, and the ghosts finding new targets to scare. Hogwarts grew with each year, and this year would be no different. Everything changed – some things for the better, some for the worse. It was an undeniable way of life. Sometimes, if one was lucky enough, one could see the beauty in it.

The last of the summer birds chirped. They were still enjoying the warm weather, which was soon bound to change as well. Their songs carried the message of a new day, a bright morning full of new beginnings and opportunities. The sun rose above the horizon and made its way through the thickly grown trees of the Forbidden Forest. It warmed the Hogwarts grounds, its sunbeams motivating everyone for a new day.

But it was quiet and cold in the dungeons. Not a bird song could be heard, nor a sunbeam seen in the first-year girls’ dormitory. Just as Dominica liked it. She awoke solely because of the alarm she had set – not from the sun giving her a headache, nor the annoying chirping that would make her muffle her ears with a pillow. She lay in bed in bliss, feeling as well-rested as she could ever remember. It was truly a wonder to wake to the sight of grey stone walls and an ear-stinging silence around her.

She got up from bed feeling lively and refreshed after a good night’s sleep. As always, she picked up the school uniform she had prepared the previous evening, and with it in hand, was the first to occupy the bathroom belonging to their dormitory. She took her time, enjoying the cold sensation of the stone beneath her feet and the freezing splash of water from the sink.

After washing up, she gathered the books she would need for the day, tightly gripping the schedule she had been given, along with a map of the castle, between her fingers as she went out. She walked through the common room, already occupied by a few early birds – or perhaps night owls – who had not slept at all. She did not care much. She made her way out of the common room into the long, stone corridor she had walked just the previous evening. Walking along it, she made her way up the marble stairs, which also brought back memories of the day before, and finally reached the Entrance Hall.

The light in the Hall nearly blinded her. After spending such a splendid morning in darkness, this was a sharp contrast, and, needless to say, not a pleasant one. She walked to the large entrance doors of the Great Hall, and as she neared them, she began to hear the echoes of chatter and giggling coming from inside. It repulsed her, but she went in anyway. She told herself she would not let some silly noises prevent her from eating breakfast.

She reached the Slytherin table, where several other students were already seated. She was pleased to find her seat from yesterday unoccupied. She sat in the same corner again. She had fallen in love with it the previous day; it had been quiet and mostly empty nearby, which provided her with a much-needed comforting silence, as well as a wider choice of food, since nobody was taking it for themselves.

She sat in exactly the same spot on the bench as she had yesterday. She looked around the table and felt her stomach gurgle, realising how hungry she was. She scooped some yoghurt into her bowl, added some granola, and topped it with a few freshly picked berries. Opening a book beside her to read, she began eating.

The food was delicious; once again, she was grateful to the House Elves of Hogwarts. In their manor, they also had a House Elf – Miranda – but unfortunately, Dominica did not enjoy her company very much, as she would mutter aggressively while sweeping the library floor when the girl was reading there, and would serve not-fully baked pastries, which Dominica found atrocious. Since the Hogwarts meals were much better, she decided they needed a new House Elf.

As she sat in thought, critiquing Miranda’s food and silently gossiping to herself, the morning mail arrived. All kinds of owls swooped in and flew around the ceiling, probably searching for the recipients of their letters. An owl found Dominica as well. A great horned owl, tall and seemingly very well kept, landed in front of her on the table. She immediately recognised it as one of her family’s two owls. Her father kept one owl for business correspondence and the other for personal matters. The one standing before her was the latter.

The owl graciously lifted its talon, which had a letter wrapped around it. The girl carefully removed it and gave the owl a biscuit to snack on while she opened the mail.

With a clean butter knife, she broke the wax seal and opened the letter. Inside was a piece of parchment, on which, in dark green ink, were written the words of none other than her father. It read:
‘Hello, Dominica.

It is I, your dear father, who is writing to you with great concern and anxiety. I could not get you off my mind the whole day yesterday, and today I finally decided to write you a little note and send my well-trusted Breeze to deliver this letter.

I was concerned about your travels. How were they? Were you comfortable? Did you feel well, or did you become ill? Please enlighten your old man to ease my worries. If anything displeased you or you found anything aggravating or unpleasant, tell me, dear, and I will make sure my colleagues at the Ministry of Magic hear about it.

Once that thought floated away, another came. How was your Sorting Ceremony? Which house were you sorted into? How did your fellow housemates welcome you? If it was not pleasant, do they know who your father is?

Ease my wonderings, dear, and let me know the answers as soon as you receive this letter, which I trust will arrive just in time for the morning mail (thanks to Breeze, of course).

Your loving father,
Philip.

P.S. Treat Breeze with a grand prize; the little one deserves it.’
The letter could not help but warm Dominica’s heart. She remembered the note on which she and her father had parted, and although she certainly had not forgiven him yet, this might have been the turning point at which she would. The letter was so sweet that, for a moment, she almost missed the manor, her father, and even Miranda. But she caught herself being sentimental and pulled herself together. She slid another biscuit to the great-horned owl to keep it occupied while she quickly scribbled a reply on the other side of the paper, using a quill she carried in her satchel:
‘Dear Father,

I am doing exceptionally well. My travels were successful; I managed to rest during them and found peace among the chaos.

Yesterday, I was sorted into Slytherin, just as you predicted, and I am proud to carry on the legacy of you and my late mother.

I will write to you soon, after my first week of studies gets off to a start.

Write to you soon. Love, Dominica.’
She put it back in the envelope and, with some distaste for the makeshift letter, secured it with tape. Then she carefully attached the mail to the owl’s leg, taking great care not to harm her father’s beloved creature. After the owl took its last bite of biscuit, the girl told it to bring the letter back home. The owl flew up into the air. Dominica tilted her head back to watch as the owl made its way to one of the open windows high in the ceiling and eventually disappeared from sight.

With that, the eleven-year-old girl decided to end her breakfast, gathered her books from the table, and buried her nose in the schedule to figure out where her next class would take place.

Sitting down at the Slytherin table there was many chatter that stretched along the space. Angel looked around and everything seemed full. She saw other students making friends already. She chuckled and reached for the food as she realized that it seems she was hungry did to her stomach making a little noise.

Angel avoided anything red except the strawberry cakes. Angel grabbed a few corns with rice and a little chicken which was nicely cooked, she could tell it was barbeque which Angel liked. Lastly she grabbed her gravy and ate.

The smells of the desserts enlightened her as they smelled like taffe and sweet. Angel couldn't help but smile, the atmosphere was warm and fuzzy so much happening for a first year always.

Noticing the many owls coming, it seems like everyone is getting a package or letters. Angel wondered if she'd get one herself if assuming there is one for her.

Angel waited by finishing her meal. She went to her dessert once and chowed down. The sweet fruity taste of the strawberries hit her first and accompanied by the sponge of the cake and the vanilla fillings that filled her mouth with flavour.

A Tawny Owl came by with her own letter and a tiny package. Angel then was struck with curiosity. She quickly opened the letter with her own sharp nails.

As the letter pops up she reads it silently for a awhile:

"Dear Angel,

I hope this letter finds you well this is from your Aunt Journee. Unfortunately your parents couldn't be able to send this letter on their own, they have been busy as of now ever since you left.

I wouldn't say nothing has changed but it's just some stuff not worth mentioning.

I know you're busy especially with your new life. Auntie misses you and I know also you haven't seen me awhile so it's also quite confusing why I'm reaching out to you now but you'll figure that out yourself. I know you hate surprises so let's say it has something to do with a half, you know? 1/2!

Be yourself don't get into trouble and keep up with your studies okay?

All the best,

Auntie Journee"

She smiled slightly only. Angel quickly turned to the small package. It showed a comb with silver and fancy design.

It seems like she'll be just fine. Angel packed up and quickly went to her classes to get ready.

September 1st | After Sorting

Ivelle looked at the Sorting Hat with such awe that she looked like a doe caught in headlights. She can't wait to be sorted! Her parents were also in Slytherin and they always talk about their experiences in the Common Room. Her brothers, however, went to Durmstrang which their father insisted them in going to, and they were sorted in Wolverine. Weird, she always thought they're joking.

"Collins, Nichole!"

"HUFFLEPUFF"

"Cortez, Ivelle!"

Ivelle freezes for a moment then she walked up to the stool, the hat placed on her head. The hat pondered and wondered until—

"SLYTHERIN"

Ivelle smiled and stood up from the stool, skipping happily. She felt the eyes of some students from the Slytherin Table, all cheering for her.

Slytherin Table
The ravenette walked towards the table, her heart beating so fast out of nervousness. As she swung her legs on the bench, she sat beside two older Slytherins. None noticed her as they went on in their conversation. She wished that someone in mind would notice her and think to socialize since she is, no doubt, too shy to do it.

As she was about to ask the older student next to her, the food suddenly appeared. She blinked and decided to ask the prefect later instead. She began to fill up her plate with all sorts of food she finds appealing.

She watched the other students interact, feeling a pang of envy as she watched them laugh. She hoped for someone to talk to her too. She always wanted friends especially when she just got to the wizarding school her parents dreamed of her going too. Now, she has to wait for the moment friendship comes as she knows that fate will somehow give her friends.

The Slytherin Table 2025-2026
Morning After
Demelza could barely sleep last night. She sent a very difficult letter to her mother, and cried herself to sleep at the thought of her being maddeningly angry with her. Her eyes were puffy and red.
The scene at the Grand Hall eased her heavy heart a little. Students were chatting excitedly about their new lessons, while the others gobbled the delicious breakfast that lay in front.
She sat next to a timid girl, and looked at her plate, which produced the kind of breakfast she could never get tired of- eggs, mustard, toast, ham, marmalade, sausage, tea, coffee, pancakes, waffles, chicken, bacon- all her favourites!
Just she began to spread mustard on her sausage, the Great Hall was suddenly swarmed by hundreds of owls, circling above the tables, dropping packages and letters. Her stomach dropped at the thought of her mother's reply. She could already imagine what her reply would be.
'You okay?', the girl next to her asked slowly, giving a reassuring smile.
'I think so?', Demelza smiled back, although a bit uneasy.
One of the owls had dropped a letter in her coffee with a great splash. Fishing it out and patting it dry, she gingerly opened the letter, but planned to not read it at all. But well, her eyes betrayed her.
Hello Demelza,
Thank you for your letter. I assume that you have reached and dined well. My love, I was at first shocked myself that you are a student of Slytherin. It was my greatest fear.
However, I've learned that your house doesn't define you. You do. I have the greatest faith in you, more than usual, that you will be noble in your deeds. From a mother to her child, I say that nothing can ever detach that faith away from me. I will always love you. You need not fear my wrath.
Make us proud.
Your father and I await for your Christmas holidays. We miss you very much.
Penelope Rookwood
Tears welled her eyes. Demelza breathed a sigh of relief. Her mother did not detest her, as she feared. With the fire of determination ablaze in her heart, Demelza Rookwood tingled with the anticipation of her future, all while eating her breakfast, of course.

The Slytherin Table 2025-2026
All eyes turned to her as she walked into the hall and sat on her table. Rosy had large black circles under her eyes. She had signed up for all the classes and had so much homework, she hadn't caught a wink of sleep last night.

She picked up her fork and started eating breakfast. She was so tired, her vision was cloudy and she could neither see, nor taste what she was eating. "I need a cup of coffee," she thought as she poked her plate to check whether she had finished her meal or not and almost instantly a cup appeared in front of her. She picked it up and drank till the last drop in one go. When she opened her eyes again, she could finally see that she had just finished a large plate of pancakes without realizing.

The girl on her right gave her a smile and Rosy half-heartedly returned it. She would once again have to attend multiple classes and go through mountains of homework. She was mentally preparing herself for the hard day ahead of her when her best friend, Emma Maverick came and sat next to her. Emma was loudly crying and when Rosy asked her what's wrong, she began screaming at her.

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT'S WRONG?" she shrieked and everybody's head turned their direction. "YOU HAVE BEEN IGNORING ME FOR A WEEK. YESTERDAY, I TOLD YOU TO COME UP TO THE OWLERY BECAUSE MY OWL WAS SICK AND YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE I KNEW COULD HELP ME. TODAY, I WENT UP THERE AND HE WAS EVEN WORSE, HE LOOKS LIKE IF I DON'T NURSE HIM BACK TO HEALTH, HE'LL..." she broke off and started crying even louder.

Rosy sat frozen at the Slytherin table, the green and silver flags waving over her like a reminder of the ambition she had let out of control while signing up for her classes. Emma’s loud cries echoed through the hall. For the first time, Rosy understood that her dream to prove herself wasn’t just bad for her health—it was also hurting the people she cared about.

She held Emma’s hand, promising her that she would help her owl and find more time to spend with her, even if it meant letting go of a few classes. As the talking around the Slytherin table continued after having stopped for a little time, Rosy had learnt an important lesson: ambition was important, but loyalty and friendship mattered more.

After being sorted and making their way to the Slytherin table, December ended up stuck right near the middle of the table to watch the rest of the first-years get sorted. Normally, that proximity would not be his first decision, to put it lightly, but he did want to make friends. He thought, alright, this is fine. I can totally handle being squished between hundreds of teen aged Slytherins on either side of me for dinner. This is totally and completely fine.

It wasn't. And people were touching him accidentally every single time they breathed, which was almost too annoying. However, there was a little remedy: The food. Somehow (and he was sure he wouldn't be able to stop himself from investigating the means later), the food just appeared on the table. Admittedly, he did yelp a little too loudly when multiple platters of various meats appeared in front of him within an actual blink of the eye, but honestly, the taste made up for it. Food was always yummy, but this food was delicious.

The older kids tried to lie to him (at least, he hoped they were lying), trying to convince him that the food was actually all made of rocks and everyone was so hungry their brains made up the taste (he really, really hoped). What is it with older years always messing with me, they thought as they added another dozen carrots to their plate. Is it my face? Do I look gullible?! Whatever the case, after what seemed like infinite hours later, the plates disappeared, and prefects and head people started leading the new first-years to their rooms. The food had been really, really good, but now December was really, really tired. But, he did learn some names, and then again, it's never a bad thing to fall asleep happily full!

Still shocked from the outcome of the Sorting Hat, Arin made his way towards the Slytherin table, who were clapping for his sorting as a Slytherin.

He straightened his robes, sitting beside fellow first-years. He recognised some students from the train. After such a stressful day on an empty stomach, the Slytherin sighs in relief when he sees the food on the table. It looked delicious, to the point where he would forget his manners and would just dive in like a hungry snake. But he controlled himself, reminding himself that he is no stray.

He grabbed a plate and started putting a piece of lamb chops with some roast potatoes and gravy on it. If his father were here, he could imagine him commenting on how English he has become. As he took the first bite, he understood why some of the students were talking about missing Hogwarts food.

Arin would never call himself a 'foodie', but after a whole day of being nauseous and having an empty stomach, he could really appreciate Hogwarts. "Maybe this doesn't have to be a bad experience," he thought to himself, looking forward to the good things that await him. He wonders, maybe the food really has some effect on him, as he was being so optimistic. But the thought could wait while he grabbed a plate of éclairs. He didn’t expect this well-made dish for it to be. He heard it's the elves who are cooking all this food. He thanked them internally while he finished up his food.

Michora walks into the great hall with a smirk on her face and her head high, behind her are two of her friends Catris and Cataris the twins, (npc's not users on site btw) she walked toward the slytherin table. she see's the cat and smirks. "What's his name?" she asked, she reached out to pet the cat. "He is very...special." she says to @Colin McCoire she sits by him. "Are you a muggle?" she asked, her voice actually sounded genuine, this was the first time a Tosphell was ever nice to someone, especially to a muggle. "I'm guessing he doesn't like cats, huh?" She nodded at the boy who was still looking disgusted. "Sorry, I'm Michora Tosphell, you ever heard of the Tosphell family?" she asked, she peered into colins eyes for any recongnition of the richest purebloods. "she smiles again, she noticed the cat clawing the wood. she smirked. "Gonna get in trouble if the head master see's such a thing." she says, petting the cat again. she smiled her green eyes gleaming with pride, her sharp green nails stroke the cat's silky black fur. she Touches her green necklace thoughtfully. "I should probably get a ring..." she says thoughtfully. she smiles warmly.
