Trying to do my homework… but…

Perfectionism… this was her major problem. She wanted really show what she is really able to do.I just desire to be… useful and have some friends.
The point is that neither she knew which was her limits.
Gaia was sitting at her house table, in early afternoon, with a bunch of books and other stuff for homework in front of her.
At her left side, there was some papers with notes, thoughts, and chess strategies.
She had the opportunity to play with different students; many from her house, but also with some from other houses. But for now she never bonded with nobody…
Gaia always had fun during the many matches, but felt empty because nobody was interested to be her friend.
But she didn’t want to rush. No, absolutely.
But the feeling of being alone was and her big trauma. She didn’t want to please others, but she hated to be judged in bad way, specially when the criticism was not accurate with the reality.
Around her, in that moment of the day, she could hear many whispers and laughs.
In part those given her confidence, but on other hand made her less focused on her homework.
She grab one of the big books, and started to read the pages assigned by professor; this was about potions lessons. She was really intrigued by this subject. So, she wanted show her abilities.
With new determination, everything around her become silent and distant: there was only her and the pages of the book, and her notes, wrote with attention during the class.
“Step, by step… I can do it…”, was thinking.
Stay in the Great Hall, or in the common room of her house, gave her the feeling to be less alone. In library… no, even if she loved books, library would be too much silent.
I want to know who I am. I want to survive this world. I am here now, and I want to live also after my death, through my knowledge and abilities.

I walked into Great Hall with a pile of books, ughh so much homework to do, and it was only the beginning of the year. I wonder what it'd be like in the end. I made long strides towards the Gryffindor table with eyes scanning for someone familiar. In such a large school with winding passages and twisting staircases, even ones that shifted, I couldn't find a single friend. Nor did I have any siblings to talk to. It had always been me, and looks like it will be just me, atleast for a few days. Hopefully I'd make friends, or not, but I tried to be optimistic as I always was.
I sat at my table and pulled out my DADA text book, and started reading abt Imps, I had to write an essay. It seemed easy enough, most of the info was in the book itself. Perhaps I should pay the library a visit and find a book abt this particular topic.
As I was doing my work, I tried to suppress the inner loneliness I felt. There were loads of people sitting with their friends, talking and giggling. It made me miss my muggle friends. I wish I had someone to talk to, to be my friend, or atleast do our homework together.
That's when I spotted a Hufflepuff girl, sitting alone at her house table. But she seemed busy in whatever she was reading. I was in a dilemma whether to approach her or not. Finally, I gathered up some courage, picked up my stuff and headed towards her. I asked, " Hey, is this seat taken? "

Gaia was so focused on her homework about potions, that didn’t noticed the girl who was approaching her.
- Hey, is this seat taken?
The voice brought Gaia into real world. In her mind many thoughts started to run. Trying to don’t pay attention to them, but just focusing on the person near to her, she looked the girl. She was a Gryffindor… this was her first time. Gaia never talked directly with students from other houses.
It wasn’t a problem, but her shyness became more strong, but was trying to keep it hide, under the surface.
Gaia noticed that this girl was holding some materials for study. Good, she understood this was her occasion for don’t study all alone.
Looking at girl face, but avoiding her eyes, Gaia nodded and said: - It is free… you can seat here, if you want.
She returned to look at her potions homework. But her mind was elsewhere.
Gaia was wandering in her mind if she would sound too rude.
So returned to watch the girl, looking at her eyes, and said: - My name is Gaia. Nice to meet you. What’s your name?
Gaia was feeling already less tense.
She knew was the right decision. For the first time after a while she didn’t let shyness to lead her.
I want to know who I am. I want to survive this world. I am here now, and I want to live also after my death, through my knowledge and abilities.

The girl said, "It's free... you can sit here if you want." I wasn't sure whether she was just shy or if she didn't want me to sit here. It felt as if she spoke to me half heartedly, and she wasn't exactly looking at my eyes. Then she spoke to me again, this time with more confidence than before, "My Name is Gaia. Nice to meet you. What's your name?" Well, looks like she was just shy before. My heart felt a bit lighter as I seated myself next to her. I replied with a bright smile, "Hi Gaia, I'm Avery. It's nice to meet you too."
I wanted to continue this conversation and not let it become an awkward first meeting. The awkwardness that could occur is just terrible, it makes me cringe inside, just at the thought. But I'm terrible at small talk, I'm never sure what to say. I might end up saying the wrong thing, and she might not want to talk to me. I thought really hard abt what to say next. A couple things jumped to my mind. I wasn't sure if should say it all. I didn't want to blabber and ask too many questions. I knew I did that a lot especially when I was nervous or excited. I didn't want that to be the case this time.
So, I further added, "Are you a first year? How's your experience at hogwarts?"

The girl took the spot near to Gaia, then said: - Are you a first year? How's your experience at Hogwarts?
Gaia started to feel really excited: another student from the first year? This would be a really big luck. She couldn’t be sure of that, but surely that girl seemed pretty “lost” as Gaia was herself.
With an older student she would feel a bit intimidated. But not in this case, this girl was at her first experience at Hogwarts as she was… or at least she was almost convinced of that, hoping to didn’t do a big mistake.
Gaia smiled, trying to don’t exaggerate, because didn’t want to show how much was happy, but probably failed to hide it.
- Yes! I am a first year student. Also you, right?
Ouch! She couldn’t stop herself in time.
- Well, I presume that you are one of first year… if I am wrong, I am sorry…
She felt her cheeks become red.
Decided to ignore everything, and continued to answer to the question: - I can say that my experience here is really great… being surrounded of all this “magic”… because, you must know I was living with my grandmother, a muggle, and even if I love her so much, I always had the need to feel the magic world around me, and not feeling like the weird one, also. So, yes, my experience here it is great, even if I had few opportunities to talk with other students, especially from other Houses.

WC: 250~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Gaia replied with a smile on her face. I could see the glint in her eyes. She confirmed that she was a first year, and asked me the same. I replied, "Yeah, I'm a first year too." She answered my question about her experience at hogwarts, saying that she quite enjoyed the magical atmosphere. She even spoke of her grandmother, whom she lived with. I said, "I'm glad you've been having a good time here. I love it here as well. My mum's told me all about her days at hogwarts. I hadn't been in touch with many wizards before coming to hogwarts, even though my mum's a wizard. But I'm still quite familiar with both wizard and muggle lifestyle, since I'm a half-blood. Oh, and where are you from? Do you have any siblings?"
I was glad I was taking this slowly, not overbearing her with questions. I remembered how I'd rushed conversations with some students. Hopefully they don't hate me. I removed the thought from my mind, and focused on my present interaction. I was glad I had someone to talk to. Perhaps we could even be friends. It felt a bit different at the moment, I wasn't that nervous or hesitant to speak to her. In fact, her presence was calming. I wasn't sure if it was my personal development or something else. Either way, I was glad that something good was happening. I looked at her, more comfortable and confident as I listened to her avidly.ReducioOOC: Thanks for your patience

Then, continued with to talk, and meanwhile Gaia was listening with big interest: - I'm glad you've been having a good time here. I love it here as well. Gaia felt really excited to hear about her live both wizard and muggle lifestyle. She didn’t have this opportunity, living mostly with her grandma.
Playing with her fingers, looking before at her hands, then again at girl face, answered: - I am from London… and no, I don’t have any siblings, sadly. And you? Same questions, if you want so share with me more about yourself.
Gaia tried to talk with calm, for make feel comfortable the other girl.
- You know… all what I knew about Hogwarts I learned it by books, because my parents are rarely at home, due to their job. They often bring me books, so I read a lot, and many things I discovered in that way. It is depressing, I know… but now I am here, and I can see the wizard world not only by book pages!
Gaia was feeling her chest more light. This was her first time… the first time where she was directly expressing her feelings about this side of her life.
She stopped to play with her fingers, noticing it. She didn’t want appearing weird or annoying Avery with stupid stims. Not because she noticed something from her… she seemed pretty interested to what Gaia was saying, and this made her more and more confident.
