Crystal walked along with her. "Bren sounds really nice Alina, I don't think it's weird at all!" she chirped happily. She never really though about having a nickname that sounded completely different from her own. But something about it was nice, like having a secret handshake or something. Its personal. She kept looping over the name in her head, ingraining the new nickname in her memory to be able to respond to it.
When they got out to the lake, her breath was taken away. It was gorgeous. She put her hand up to stop her hair from blowing in her face and took in the view. The light they had was reflecting off of the slight rippling in the water, and the fresh smell of grass and pine came to her nose. "Wow," she breathed out. She couldn't understand how she never came around this place before. She was tempted to go to the edge of the water, but knew that doing that would give Alina a heart attack, so she decided to walk a couple of feet away from the edge, looking for some flat and round stones she might be able to skip. She might have to come back here later on her own, spend some time drawing the water. "Do you know how to skip stones?" she asked.

"I know the concept but lack the method," she stated truthfully. She liked being outdoors and had tried, unsuccessfully in the past. "Tell me, are you like...the United Kingdom's All Time Best Stone Skipper of last year?" she gave her friend a fake title and then sighed. "Oh man, Skipper. That would have been a cute nickname too...." Now it was between the two.

She put her bag down and came over to Bren/Skipper. Maybe she was going to show her. Alina, just to be ready, started to rub her hands together and do a few stretches...even if one really didn't need to stretch for skipping stones.

She wanted to be ready. The expert at anything was once a novice, wasn't that the saying? "Teach, oh wise one." Where did they start? She looked down to the ground because if one was going to skip stones, she guessed the first step was probably getting a stone. She began to look around and off to the side she saw the scorched grass that created a circle and smiled, thinking of her one encounter with her friend.

"Here's a stone!" she grabbed one she found on the ground but it wouldn't be the right kind. Too round, too small.

Crystal laughed a bit at the name 'skipper'. "I think Bren is much better of a nickname than skipper, and i wouldn't say i'm the best at it. I just know the way you need to do it," She took the stone from Alina and tapped it with her finger "The big thing with skipping stones is you need to find the right Kind of stone. This is not the right kind. Its too round, you want a flat stone so that there is more surface area but its still rather light. Going on the same idea, you need to find one a little bit bigger than this one.
Crystal tossed the rock gently back to Alina, and started to look for a proper skipping stone. After a little bit of searching, she found probably the most perfect one she had ever seen. It was flat stone with rounded off edges, the perfect size to fit comfortably in her hand. She held it up "look at this! This has got to be the nicest looking skipping stone ever!" she exclaimed. moving closer to the water to be able to make the stone skip. "okay i'll try and explain what i'm going to do, you want the stone to bounce. But to do that you have to get the right angle. You wanna kinda flick your wrist and throw out and down at a slight angle." she explained as she positioned the stone in her hand to throw it. Crystal tossed the stone out, and it bounced off the surface of the lake water three times nicely before sinking to the bottom.

Alina nodded, she had to give her friend credit that was the best skip she'd ever seen. "Okay...the right kind of rock..." she repeated as she looked around. She found one that was larger but certainly not flat so kept looking, trailing her shoe along the ground to help her scout out just the right ones.

Luckily there were a lot of rocks, almost too many. It was like trying to find a four leaf clover amongst a whole grove of them. "How about this one?" It wasn't as perfect but it was fairly big and fairly flat. It would work...well, it would work depending on the person throwing it knew what they were doing or not.

"So Bren, does your mum bake for a living?" she asked curiously as she took a go at it, tossing the stone across the lake and hoping it might skip at least once before sinking. Hopefully Mr. Squiddington wasn't down there getting pelted with stones! Surely he was smart enough to move out of the way.

She wanted to get to know others home lives, she just worried that it might mean they'd want to know about hers in return. Still, one's upbringing often told a lot about the person they were or would become.

Crystal nodded with a smile, commencing her own search to find another nice stone. "My mum owns a bakery, she sometimes will do catering for birthday parties as well. My father is a bit of a different story though, he's an electrical engineer. He works on designing phones and tablets and computers. It's rather nice actually, if any electronics we have break he can usually fix them for us. We don't have to go and pay someone else." She ranted. She liked talking about her family, she liked talking about electronics. Even if her mother never used them, she followed in her father's footsteps and liked to take them apart and put them back together again.
Crystal shuffled her feet against the ground, moving some of the larger rocks away to see if there were any smaller ones underneath she could use. "If you don't mind me asking, what do your parents do for a living?" she questioned as she picked up a decent skipping stone, tossing it into the lake. This one didn't skip as well, it bounced once then fell. She was still pretty proud of it though. There was a good while that she was unable to even get it to bounce once. Once bounce was always better than none.

Her family sounded rather interesting and Alina also wondered if she had any siblings to share those parents with. They sounded intriguing. And then it was back to her and she was now going to have to explain about her family, something she didn't really like talking about. One, they weren't...loving like others had and two, she wasn't sure how long she'd even have them.

"My father is an Economic Advisor and Investor...he helps the wealthy spend their money and in return does the same, invests in things over here, invests in things over there. It's mostly all that social networking and all, who you know and that jazz. So he's never home. His interests have always lied outside the household." Making money or women. She wasn’t too fond of the man.

Alina picked up another rock that might work and she gave it a toss in a similar fashion to her friend's. It sailed out of her hands, across the the shoreline and toward the pond...where it instantly splashed inside. "Huh...made a good ripple, that one did." Still no skip.

So she was still going to need more practice to get this new skill down (if she ever did), but as they say...Rome wasn't build in a day.

She found two nice skipping stones next to eachother and handed one of them to Alina. "That must suck, but it is an interesting job. I don't personally think I would ever be one for social networking. Don't really know what I would want to do yet," She mentioned. Running her mind through all of the different jobs she's had interest in. She didn't want to be a baker like her mother, she wasn't exactly the best chef. Maybe a zoologist, maybe something magical. While she liked electronics she never really thought of doing it as a job.
She went to toss the stone but her shoes slipped on a rather slick rock, slipping and sliding. It caused her to loose her balance and she fell down with a small shriek onto the ground, letting go of the rock she was holding as she went down. It took her a minute to realize what just happened before she started laughing. Of course she would find out a way to fall when going out, when has she not? But falling while throwing a stone was not what came to mind when thinking about all the different possibilities. She choked back the laughter while she stood back up, brushing off her legs and ignoring the small cuts on her hand from hitting the ground. It wasn't a broken arm or anything, a few minor scrapes was better than falling in the lake in her opinion.
