Jay (though she didn't like to admit it) was lost. She had never really been lost before, apart from that one time in the ministry of magic (when she was five) and had decided to go wandering while her mom went to pick up some paper work, but that is another story... It was fair to say that Jay didn't like Ilvermorny very much, to say the least. It was a large and ever changing place that she was still attempting to learn to navigate, such a place, with it's many floors and doors that seemed to have fun taunting the blind girl and switching themselves.

From what Jay could hear, there were not very many people out at the moment, and the whole echoed only with her own footsteps.

She fiddled with the aquamarine ring in her fore finger. The smoothness was calming some how, like being in the ocean again, the currents washing over her, its soothing rhythm like the steady beat of a drum... suddenly, she was jerked (rather unceremoniously) back to reality when she felt someone collide with her. "I'm sorry!" she said, but she really couldn't tell to whom she was apologizing.

Jay heard someone get to their feet, just to the side of were she was standing, so she turned her body there.

Atticus missed his home in New York. He was used to the busy streets, the impatient blare of car horns, and the constant hum of life just beyond his window. Sometimes, he found himself lying awake at night, unable to sleep without the comforting chaos of the world outside. Some might call him crazy for it, but he hated the quiet serenity of Ilvermorny Castle. Though he didn’t live in the heart of the Big Apple, the lively, unrelenting noise of Yonkers had always been enough to make the silence here feel unbearable.

Atticus took a deep breath. He found himself strolling around the castle after classes to see if he could find something interesting to do. He could be doing classwork right now but he hated doing it. Atticus usually found himself doing his work at the last minute, turning in a half done paper or assignment that usually didn’t get him good grades but, oh well.

As he was walking down a corridor he accidentally bumped into another student in the hallway. Atticus definitely wasn’t paying attention to where he was going, he was too busy looking at the intricate architecture of the stone walls.

He fell to the floor, putting his hands out to brace himself. The person he bumped into immediately apologised. Atticus took a second to get up from the floor, starting his own apology as he dusted himself off.

"No-no that was my fault," he said, pushing a strand of hair out of his face. "I wasn't really payin' attention." Atticus took a breath before speaking again. "You okay? I didn't hurt you or anything, right?"

"No-no that was my fault," stammered a male voice. "I wasn't really payin' attention." he inhaled softly before continuing "You okay? I didn't hurt you or anything, right?"

"Oh, I'm fine," Jay said kindly."Are you?" She asked, tucking a long strand of pale hair behind her ear. Billie stirred in her shoulder, and yawned widely, his warm fishy breath tickled her ear.

A beat.

"My name's Jay, by the way. Jay Solace." She said, her pale blue eyes staring at him curiously, as if she could see him, and was forming a mental picture. She tossed her long blond hair over her shoulders, much to Billie's distaste. Billie was her Seeing Eyes Companion, whom had been sleeping on Jay's shoulder all evening, using Jay's silvery blond hair as some sort of blanket. This wasn't unusual. Jay (despite loving her cat very much) was a very independent child, liked to do things on her own (not that Billie wasn't helpful).

She felt him stretch on her shoulder, his tiny paws pressing into her skin slightly as he extended his claws.

Jay lifted him off her shoulder and held him in her arms, stroking is fluffy, silver head, absentmindedly. Most of her attention was on the boy she assumed was still in front of her.

Atticus let out a small, relieved laugh, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Yeah-yeah, I’m good.” he said, his voice a little sheepish. “I’ve had worse run-ins with walls than with people.”

Looking back at her, he straightened a bit, trying to recover some of his lost composure. “Nice to meet you, Jay. I’m Atticus Maxfield.”

He tilted his head slightly toward the creature on her shoulder, his curiosity showing through his voice. “And who is your fluffy friend?”

Atticus had always wanted to have an animal at school, specifically, a pet rat. They reminded him of home in a way nothing else really did. He liked how intelligent they were, how they could solve problems and even learn little tricks if you gave them the time. There was something about their curiosity that he liked.

He’d wanted one since he was a kid, even if his parents had strongly disagreed. They were constantly stopping him from trying to pick them up off the street, or catch him putting up traps around the house to catch them. They usually scolded him while he insisted they were just misunderstood. It was a habit he never really grew out of… just one he’d learned to keep to himself a bit more.

Atticus paused for a moment, stuffing his hands into his pockets as his posture relaxed. There was something oddly calming about Jay’s presence, like the world had quieted down just a little. Even her fluffy companion seemed completely at ease, which, somehow, made him feel the same.

At the very least, he no longer felt like he’d just made a complete fool of himself in the middle of the hallway.

“Yeah-yeah, I’m good.” he said, his voice a little sheepish. “I’ve had worse run-ins with walls than with people.” he added. Jay chuckled softly. She had run into walls more times than she could count, especially when she was little. She she knew that unknown number of wall face-plants was probably a lot bigger then this boys, although she still sympathized. Jay bumped into walls so much that she could almost feel when she was about to bump into one, even before she hit it, though not soon enough to stop before the collision occurred. Jay thought, rather bitterly.

“Nice to meet you, Jay. I’m Atticus Maxfield.” he said in a slightly louder voice as though he was trying to build a better first impression. Jay couldn't blame him. This was not the first time she had met someone by bumping into them. Jay had done it so often, that first impressions hardly mattered to her any more. Most people just muttered a curt "sorry" and moved on with their life.

“And who is your fluffy friend?” he asked, the curiosity in his voice prominent.

"Oh, this is Billie." Jay said stroking her cats silvery back. He purred softly, rubbing his small head on her cheek, his whiskers tickling her ear as his wet nose made contact with Jay's cheek.

She hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Do you by any chance know how to get to the Transfiguration Classroom from here?" She asked, turning her unseeing gaze downward.

Atticus blinked for a moment when she asked the question, mentally tracing a path in his head through the building. Ilvermorny’s halls had a way of turning students and even professors around through the seemingly endless, twisting corridors of the castle.

“Transfiguration?” he repeated. “I think I know where that is from here. You’re actually pretty close.”

His voice was a little softer now, different from his usually loud and boisterous New York accent he’d use with friends or at home. The embarrassment from nearly knocking her over was fading little by little now.

“There should be a staircase just around the corner to the left.” he explained, trying to be as clear as possible. “Then you go up one floor and follow the corridor with all of the armor displays. The classroom should be at the end.” He scratched the back of his head, his face twisting a little with confusion. “At least… I’m pretty sure it is. The halls are never the same when I need to get to class.”

A smile tugged at his voice.

“Actually, if you want, I could just walk with you there? Might be easier than trying to give you somewhat correct directions.”
