Fire looked up, holding his hand against his forehead in the place of a visor. He smacked lips which had become chapped and dry with the coming dryness that winter brought for the students. The boy walked forward his feet immediately sinking down a few inches once it made contact with the blanketed powdered ice. It had snowed last night, absolute bucket-fuls of snowflakes, the whirring outside the window of his dorm had kept him wide awake all night, of course that was the reason he had lay restless and not the yet another letter that he had trashed.

Fire blew out the hottest breath he could muster to watch the clouding white puff swirl and churn through the air, in a way that the boy found absolutely satisfying, and somewhat... Calming, especially with the ambience of students chattering and running about the grounds and if he listening closely enough he could hear the whirring of the winds echoing through his ear canal. Like a small whisper of the seasons, all accompanied with the soft chirps of the morning songs of the birds who had not yet retired to hibernation. The boy pulled on some black gloves before pulling himself out of the snow sinkhole he had found himself slowly falling into more the time passed. Suddenly the curious thought ran through he mind on what would happen if he used incendio on the snow? Maybe an adventure for another time, because in reality the Hufflepuff already had a plan in mind.

As he trudged through the snow ungracefully he carefully scoped out the area around him, looking with squinted eyes, it seemed as if the boy to an onlooker was searching for a friend or lost item, or maybe he just couldn't see well. But when in actuality, Fire was just looking for a new victim person he could challenge into his regular antics for a hopeful quick buck for some snacks. That's when his eyes fell upon a boy with glowing blonde hair that sat perfectly tucked behind his ears, dark brown eyes bringing out his freckles making him starkly stick out amongst the pale icy backdrop that surrounded them. He also seemed.. familiar? Fire couldn't quite put his finger on it right now, but the looks of the boy definitely rang a bell somewhat. He shrugged the deja vu off, but he couldn't lie the familiarity seemed to draw him forward, successfully choosing who would be his friendly rival for today's mission.

Fire walked, more like waddled, to the other student waving to hopefully capture his attention, "Hey!" He spoke long before he was actually standing beside him, man it was a workout to get through this snow. Fire seemed out of breath, the puffs of white coming in and out rapidly from his mouth as he tried to regain some of his composure. He cleared his throat, before trying again, the weather had made his mouth and throat feel dry, hopefully he wasn't coming down with something.

"Hey, the name's Fire," He spoke but his face remained rather stoic strangely, maybe even grumpy. But that was far from his actual emotion. "Wanna see who can roll the biggest snowball, winner gets a galleon?"

𝔖now had a way of making everything seem magical. That was the only thing Caspian liked about it.

He’d been crouched near the edge of the grounds for a while, fingers numb and pink, tracing lazy patterns in the powder with the tip of his finger. The cold had a sharpness to it, it made his fingers sting almost painfully, but he ignored it.

He hated the cold. He didn't like how it would manage to creep into bones no matter how many layers he wore, and how it made it feel like there were tiny needles all over his body. Still, he had been too bored inside the castle to care at all. Snow had once been amazing to him when he had been younger. But now, it was just cold and very annoying, a nuisance more than a wonder.

Footprints marked the snow behind him, proof that he’d been there at all. He hadn’t been moving much, content to stay in one place. His scarf hung loose around his neck, the ends flopping, as he watched students drift past in clumps, laughter rising and dissolving into breath-clouds. It felt like standing inside a snow globe someone had shaken too hard.

He scooped up a handful of snw and let it sift through his fingers before straightening, which was harder than he expected. Thanks to the humongous jacket he’d bundled himslef into. The jacket shifted awkwardly around his shoulders as he adjusted it. He had thought he would be warm, that the layers would protect him, but the cold still seeped in and pricked at his skin. He tugged at the sleeves, adjusted the zipper, and huffed quietly, already regretting wearing such a big jacked.

That was when a voice cut across the quiet, breaking his thoughts.

“Hey!”

Caspian turned at the sound, pushing himself upright with a faint grunt as the cold protested the movement. His legs ached slightly from crouching. He straightened fully and looked toward the sound, spotting a boy trudging through the snow in his direction, boots sinking with every step. He eyed him approaching, noting the red flush of cold on his cheeks and his breath puffing hard.

“Hey,” Caspian echoed back.

The boy introduced himself. His name was Fire, as he had come to know of. Then came the offer. Caspian glanced down at the open stretch of snow between them, then back up at Fire. A galleon was enough to make things interesting.

“Biggest snowball,” he repeated, testing the words. “For a galleon.” He shifted his stance, boots crunching as he stepped toward the open patch of snow between them. “You’re serious?”

“Alright,” he said after a long pause, standing just a little straighter. “The one who can roll the biggest snowball wins. Also, if I win, that galleon’s mine.”

Fire watched, his eyes squinting in small curiosity as he silently observed the other student from afar, the student seemed almost motionless before he had spoken up. Huddled, clinging to his huge coat and scarf as close as he could, as if it was life support, which makes sense since in this weather, technically it was. Considering it only took an hour to thirty minutes to develop hypothermia in negative weather, so he couldn't really judge the kid for trying to conserve his body temperature against the attacking snowy winds like a poor defenseless penguin.

After watching the small display for a bit Fire had finally called out, quickly spewing a lame introduction, getting the small pep talk out of the way to actually get down to what REALLY mattered. Competition, having winners and losers, a battle of who was better. Translation pretty much was that Fire was just bored and felt the need to disrupt those around him in one way or another to entertain himself.

The best way to describe this method of Fire, it to explain it in a fishing metaphor, because in some way or another, everything can be drawn back to a witty analogy of sea critters. So right to it shall we? Fire was like a fisherman at a lake, he would throw out his rod, and throw in some chum and some delicious bait to make it more interesting and enthralling, as as soon as the nibbled he would reel them in. It was different his time, as this time he had a bite.

“You’re serious?” The blond boy asked as he tested the situation hypothetically, seemingly trying to see if he liked the sound of it.

Fire nodded, giving his most serious face he could as he finally made it to around a good 3 feet in front of the kid, heaving icy breaths from the extortion of strength to move from one place to another. He really needed better winter boots, the ones he had just made him sink to the bottom like dangerous quicksand, luckily it was still pretty shallow, making the level of snow come up to his ankles. "Im-" a small wheeze of agony. "Extremely, serious." He then dug into his pocket holding out a single small galleon as some sort of proof of his commitment or seriousness, the small coin glinted from the overhanging sun's rays.

Fire returned the small currency back to his pocket, a crooked smile scrawling across his face as he heard the okay, finding the confidence from the other intriguing. "Deal, but too bad for you, it already has my name written on it!"

The Hufflepuff then moved forward attempting to push the other off balance, and hopefully fall, to give him a small head-start on the snowball, he quickly pushed and dashed off working against the snow to start forming his ball...

aspian’s gaze dropped briefly to the galleon as it appeared and he exhaled lightly through his nose. “Right. So you’re not bluffing.”

Then the shove came. For a moment, he let himself think about the kind of person who would do this, someone who would shove a person just to gain a head start and then bolt off to build a snowman before they could even properly react. Someone impatient, reckless probably. Like this guy.

It wasn’t a hard shove, not really, but it was enough to throw him off. Enough to be annoying, especially that. He caught himself with a sharp step back, snow crunching beneath his weight. His balance returned quickly, but the irritation came just as fast, settling behind his eyes.

Caspian let out a quiet, disbelieving scoff, shaking his head slightly as he brushed snow off his sleeve with a quick flick. “Seriously?” he called after him, his voice carrying easily across the open space, edged with disbelief more than anything else. “You shove people now?”

He watched Fire for another second, eyes narrowing slightly in disbelief, then the thought crossed his mind. The snowball wasn’t going to build itself.

He clicked his tongue in dissaproval and turned, boots pressing clean tracks into the untouched stretch he’d chosen earlier, dropping into a crouch again. If Fire wanted to rely on a head start, that was his problem. Caspian wasn’t about to chase him around like it mattered that much. It didn’t. Not really.

He dropped into a crouch again, the fabric of his oversized jacket bunching awkwardly around his arms as he moved. It made everything feel heavier and slower. like he was working against his own clothes as much as the cold itself, but he adjusted without thinking too much about it. Pressing his hands into the white powder, he flexed his fingers, feeling the stiffness of the cold already creeping into them despite his gloves. It settled in his joints in that dull, annoying way that made every movement just a little more irritating than it needed to be. He ignored it. It wasn’t like the cold was going anywhere.

He scooped up a generous handful of snow with both hands, cupping them together before placing it down in front of him, forming the beginnings of a small mound. The top layer crumbled too easily, slipping through his fingers in soft, useless clumps, and he frowned slightly at it before trying again. It had been too loose.

He made a ball that didnt crumble in the second try. He packed it together more firmly and he set it down carefully, then gathered more snow from the sides, pulling it inward and pressing it against the forming ball to make it more bigger. He was planning on making it as big as he was. Or, if he was being more realistic, at least big enough to make the effort obvious. As big as an anglerfish. He wasn’t going to lose to someone who shoved people for a head start.

Fire quirked an eyebrow as if saying a wry smile playing his lips as if asking, does it look like I'm bluffing? Then of course came Fire's attempt to get a head start, he would be lying if he said the he didn't want that galleon, but honestly even with that on the line he just enjoyed seeing the shocked look that others got when he blatantly cheated, cause in reality what were they going to do? Quit? Usually not, as who wants their ego bruised in that way? Couldn't take a joke? But honestly maybe the boy just had bully tendencies without even realizing it. Fire practically cackled at his action, using his upper body strength to push the snow forward tumbling it into a ball, but the Hufflepuff wasn't done yet as he had another trick up his sleeve.

“Seriously? You shove people now?” The boy spoke in disbelief after him, the Hufflepuff could only grin goofily turning around to give a uncaring shrug.

"I dunno man you kinda deserved it, probs karma from you last life or somethin man," Fire yelled back pushing the ball forward, felt the powdery white flakes trying to crumble beneath his gloved hands as he tried to roll it, so now it was time to play his dirty trick. He paused for a moment, he cleared his throat, and again, and again. Horking back up as much saliva as he could possibly muster within his mouth before, "HAWKKKKK-TEWWW!" He spit out a glob onto the ball, using his gloves to rub it around the snowy mass acting as a glue to keep the snow compressed together as he pushed it forward repeating his previous process, rolling it until it felt close to crumbling, spitting, and again. He in this situation would normally use water as the concrete for his building, but the temperature was so cold that his water bottle would've most likely have frozen already, and not to mention to lack thereof of bringing one in the first place.

Fire glanced over at the other boy's progress, fighting the urge to go over and stomp on his ball before resuming on his own. As tempting as it sounded, he knew he already had a semi-decent head start to the other, having a ball that was already measure up to below his knees, as he continued to roll it over the snow like a game of katamari.

"Looks like I'm ahead kid," He grinned snarkily, taunting the other a few feet away from him.
