An Owl?

His ears were still burning from the humiliation of his Aunt Jess. He followed the first Wizard he'd actual spoke to. Laverne Taylor, she was nice and informed him that Wizards do, in fact, have pet owls.

Bunch of weridos, these people.

But curiosity is strong, and will probably be the thing that kills River. He followed this girl into a shop that smelled like the back end of a donkey.

A cacophony of screeching owls, flapping wings, and chirps from little colorful balls of just... lint or something. And a quick duck to avoid a flying... duck. He looked around and was in awe, dozens of animals from cats to frogs the size of his head, to large balls of lint in a bin that tried to lick him with uncomfortably long tongues.

"This place is wicked," River beamed as a creature of chaos himself. He really enjoyed places that felt like chaos. He looked to Laverne. "Sorry about my Aunt, she's well. She's crazy. She wanted to be one of those food blogger people. So that should tell you she's crazy. So just ignore everything she ever says... ever. I do," he grinned. He looked around at the animals; he really wanted to get one. "Do they have Crows or Ravens here? They are my favorite."

Aunt Jess came in, River sighed, "River, I told you to stop going off without me. Oh i see now, you wanted alone time with your girl--" River kicked her shin again. "Ouch, you little bastard! Stop being a punk, or I'll tell your mom!"

"Go ahead!" River said. "Want an ouiji board? Or do you want me to send you to see her in person!" he bawled, his fist and took a swing at her thigh. Aunt Jess countered with a flick to his forehead. "Ow..."

"Don't mind my nephew," Aunt Jess smiled sweetly to the wizard girl who was watching their weird but funny dynamic, while putting River in a headlock. "This is just how we... show our love or something."

Which is true. River and Aunt Jess have a unique relationship of cursing each other out, fighting and causing hell for each other. But they have been very close ever since his parents' death. A birth mother, then an aunt. But River, being stubborn, can't show weakness, or she'd eat him alive.

He finally pulled away and backed up, panting. "Hag!"

"I am not a hag, you brat. Hags are old and wrinkly. I am still young and beautiful," Aunt Jess said.

River leaned to Laverne, "Barely..." he whispered. His ADHD kicking in, he immediately turned and went deeper into the shop. "Oh, that's a big owl! How much? 16 of those gold things. Aunt Jess gave me 16 gold things."

"Nuh uh!" Aunt Jess said. "Birds give me crazy allergies, I'd literally die." She said overdramatically.

River turned to the shopkeeper on a dime, "I'll take it! Give me the..." he took a second to read the animal's breed. "Great White Owl! The more allergies, the better!"

Laverne was still pink for some reason. Guess that really shocked her. She couldn't believe that he was fine to talk with her after that... let's say, mess up. She and River went into the Magical Menagerie. He looked disgusted, maybe cuz of the smell? There were a few owls and they swooped down at River and he bent. Laverne laughed. Let’s say that River looked scared and excited at the same time.

"This place is wicked," said River. I know right! It's upright awesome!
"Sorry about my Aunt, she's well. She's crazy. She wanted to be one of those food blogger people. So that should tell you she's crazy. So just ignore everything she ever says... ever. I do," ohh, his aunt. She wanted to ask him whether his parents were okay, but knew it would sound rude. Oh there's no problem. He looked further around the shop. "Do they have Crows or Ravens here? They are my favorite." I don't think-

She wanted to complete what she was saying but his aunt came in. "River, I told you to stop going off without me. Oh i see now, you wanted alone time with your girl--" Laverne could feel her going pink, but then River kicked her shin and Laverne laughed. "Ouch, you little bastard! Stop being a punk, or I'll tell your mom!" Ohh he has a mom.. "Go ahead!" River said. "Want an ouiji board? Or do you want me to send you to see her in person!" Laverne winced, he doesn't have parents.

River then punched his aunt's thigh, she flicked his forehead. "Don't mind my nephew," said his aunt and she put River in a headlock. "This is just how we... show our love or something." Ohh.. uhm ok. Then Laverne was just looking at them. Then River finally pulled back. "Hag!" he said.
"I am not a hag, you brat. Hags are old and wrinkly. I am still young and beautiful," said his aunt proudly. River leaned in to whisper something to Laverne, who was left looking at them from one to another. "Barely..." he whispered. Then he immediately turned and went deeper into the shop. "Oh, that's a big owl! How much? 16 of those gold things. Aunt Jess gave me 16 gold things." Yeah, it is. I think that I've got the same breed...

Shoot, why is my head aching? Everything after that became blurry. All she could understand there was movement though.

An Owl?
River checked out the owl despite his Aunt Jess's protests. "I will name you Athena," River dubbed, looking at his large white owl. He put her in the cage he got with her and saw Laverne looking unwell.

River walked over, "Hey, are you ok?"
Aunt Jess took the cage with the owl and saw Laverne's distress. "River, take this bird, let's get her out of here." Aunt Jess put her hand on Laverne's shoulder, led her out of the animal store, and sat her down on a bench. "River, watch her, I'm going to try to find some water." Aunt Jess then left. River sat next to her.
"Are you ok?" He said softly. "I tend to give my Aunt headaches, too," he smiled. "I guess you are another victim of my amazing charm."

She rubbed her temples. River figured he was making her headache worse, so he shut up. He put his finger in the cage and petted his new owl. "I never had a pet before, kinda awesome. You said you have the same kind? That's awesome, maybe we are made to be friends. These magic people got fate right? Anyway, I'll shut up." He smiled and sat a bit closer to her. He sighed and looked around the alley, his leg jumping up and down, and his eyes darting around from one thing to another quickly. He was biting his bottom lip to keep from talking and annoying her with her headache.

Eventually, Aunt Jess came back, pulled a few ibuprofen from her slightly burned purse, and passed Laverne a bottle of water.
