Untold Secret
Cassie has just finished her dinner at the long Ravenclaw table. The dinner was delicious, as always. She enjoyed her cupcake as a dessert as well. But to be honest, her mind was so occupied with thoughts that she did not pay such attention to what she just had.
She never knows that having an untold secret can be such a torture. It all started at the Spring Ball, the spring royalty pageant, to be precise. Cassie had a crush on the first year boy who was her friend and the deputy head of her club. She wasn't even sure why she had the crush, but her pounding heart and her blushed cheeks reveal her thoughts. Her crush seems to grow day by day. Every smile, every eye contact they had when they met in the corridors or at the great hall, seems to be pulling a string in her heart. Without noticing, Cassie starts to search for his figure when she is having her meals. Smiling when he is not facing her, yet pretending to be normal when he is.
Yet she does not even have the right excuse to walk to him and talk. Her thoughts got tangled the very first time she remembered what happened at the early spring tea party she organized. Rosalyn Willows, Rosie, who became Cassie's best friend soon after, is Zephyr's childhood best friend. They have special nicknames for one another. She calls him Windy, he calls her Bubbles. They hug each other whenever they meet, and they can talk about nearly everything, without worrying about anything.
Rosie is pretty and full of energy. She makes nearly everyone beside her happy, spreading her good mood. She is kind and friendly, and she never seems to have troubles. She is in the same year with Zephyr, meaning that they can have nearly every lesson together. But what about Cassie? She is three years older, with loads of troubles and pressure. And the boy doesn't know her for the first decade of his life. If they really develop a crush on each other. Cassie would have no chance at all.
Yet she cannot get rid of her tangling feelings. What if, she keeps thinking, what if they are just friends. She now sees studying as a way of escape, an escape from her feelings, her emotions, the torture they brought her and the questions she have but doesn't dare to ask.
Or maybe she should.

@Cassie Jiang 4/30/26, Dinner Time
Rosie was having a really good day so far. She'd done well in her classes, had some time to relax in her dorm, and even had a great dinner in the Great Hall! She was in an amazing mood, which only got better when she spotted Cassie!
She'd known Cassie for...well, not too long, but they were already getting very close. Rosie wanted to go and say hi to her, maybe talk for a bit!
She got up from her table and walked over to where Cassie was, sitting in the seat next to her, which was luckily empty. She gave her friend a big hug, excited to see her, before pulling back so they could talk.
"Hi, Cassie! How are you today?" she asked, hoping that she was having as good of a day as Rosie herself was.
"Did you have any fun classes? I had Herbology, which is my favourite, so I really enjoyed it!" she said, giving her own answer to her own question, just so happy about here day still.
She noticed that Cassie seemed to be rather deep in thought, almost like she was internally debating on something. Whatever it was, Rosie hoped that everything was okay!

Untold Secret
Cassie is startled for a moment when she hears the voice of Rosie. She looks up in awe, and a warm smile spreads across her face at once. Rosie gives her a big hug, which deepens her smile. 'Hi Rosie! I'm so glad to see you here. I'm doing great, thank you for asking. What about you?'
Rosie starts talking about her lessons today. 'Wow Herbology?' she smiles, 'it's one of my favourite subjcets too! It always feel great to be close to nature!' what subjects did she have, Cassie thinks for a second. She is so lost in her thoughts at the moment that she needs time to 'get back to reality' 'Charms and Potions! I have to say that these two subjects are interesting too. I especially like potions. I really enjoy the process of potion brewing, and the professor is nice too.' Cassie pauses to recall her timetable. 'And I've got Astronomy tonight I think, this is my favourite subject. The vast starry night is just gorgeous and breathtaking, so is the mysterious universe.' she exclaims.
Meanwhile, Cassie thinks hard on how to get the topic related to the boy, but she doesn't want her words to be awkward, and she is not that prepared for the worst.
'What did you learn in Herbology today?' Cassie asks. Her first year was already years ago.

"I'm doing pretty good, too! I'm glad you're great." Rosie said, responding to Cassie's kind question. In truth, she was rather tired, but didn't feel like mentioning that.
"It really does, doesn't it? I love the reminder that we, as humans, are just a small part of something that is much larger and much more powerful than even we are!" she said, agreeing with Cassie's love for nature. Herbology really was a fun class!
"Potion brewing is a lot of fun! One time there was this whole debacle-crisis though, and it almost ended in memory loss...but other than that, I love brewing potions! It's almost like baking, with the ingredients and mixing and finished product at the end." she said, cringing a bit at the memory of that one fateful class...
"Ohh, I hope you have so much fun! Stars really are beautiful things." she said, happy that her friend was getting to have her favourite subject, since she seemed truly excited.
"Herbology? Well, we did a bit of a review on Mandrakes, so I do have a bit of a headache. I may have to go visit Windy-sorry, Zephyr-later, see if he happens to have any medicine for it." she said, temporarily forgetting that she was in a magic school, and there was probably a better solution.
Untold Secret
'Good to hear!' Cassie says when she hears that Rosie is doing good. The girl seems to be always smiling and energetic. Maybe Cassie was like that too when she was in her first year, maybe not. She can't remember clearly.
'Yep! I can't agree more.' Cassie says when Rosie comments on Herbology and nature. Cassie is surprised when she hears that Rosie nearly got seriously injured in Potions before. 'Oh my!' she exclaims. 'I'm so sorry to hear that. Potion brewing can sometimes be dangerous indeed. I hope that you'll never face with a situation like this again.' Cassie feels lucky for she has never gotten injured during a class. 'But yes, it's like baking and it's really fun!'
'Thank you so much!' Cassie says after Rosie wishes her have fun at Astronomy, 'The stars are truly amazing. Though I sometimes feel sleepy the next day.' she giggles a bit.
Cassie doesn't expect it when Zephyr's nickname gets loose from Rosie's lips. Her mind blanks for a moment, and she pays no attention to whatever Rosie says after that. 'Go visit Windy', the words echoes in her mind. Her anxious feelings gets back to her. Her fear and her worries nearly drowns her.
'You were right.' she says to herself. 'She can call him by his special nickname, and visit him at ANY TIME. I'll probably never be able to do that. Never.' she feels dizzy for a second, as if she is going to fall. 'If they like each other, you'll have no chance at all.'
Realizing that Rosie is still talking to her, Cassie quickly finds her balance. 'Sorry.' she says, 'I was picturing the vast universe in my mind. The fact that we humans are so small always makes me feel dizzy.'
She feels that a string inside her just snapped. 'Ask her. Ask her about their relationship' she hears a voice inside her say. 'Oh cool.' she tries to look normal. 'By the way, you and Zephyr are childhood friends, aren't you?' she lowers her voice, as if she is just gossiping, 'I'm so curious! Do you have a crush on him?' She smiles. Cassie is glad that she and Rosie are familiar with each other enough for her to ask such a question.
She waits for the answer, as if waiting for the judgement, her heart pounding fast.

"Thanks! And honestly, that class was pretty fun. Chaotic and dangerous, but pretty fun!" Rosie said, laughing at the memories. Ah, Max, the chaos agent of class.
"Oh, yeah! The class is pretty late, I have to stop myself from falling asleep mid-lesson!" she said, smiling at Cassie's comment and adorable little giggle.
"It is pretty crazy, isn't it!" she said, noticing how Cassie was, well, spaced out. Ha, get it?
Anyways, Rosie didn't think too much of it, going with the excuse. But, her friend's next question did catch her off guard pretty well.
"Umm...yeah, we are childhood friends! I've known him for...one, two, six...a lot of years!" she said, mentally trying to count but eventually giving up.
"Our parents knew each other, had kids, and boom, besties! Though I haven't seen him a whole lot here..." she said, sad at that fact. They spent a whole lot of time together back before this whole 'magic' thing became their lives, though she did still get to see him, so she wasn't too upset.
She debated on how to answer that second question, about the crush. The answer was no. Well, she thought. They were great friends, and she didn't think she felt anything else. But she didn't know why Cassie was asking...
Wait. Oh my goodness. DID CASSIE LIKE WINDY?!? Awwww, so sweet! She'd seen them together at the Spring Royalty event thingie, and they were talking for a rather long time. Oh mi goshhh, they'd be perfect together! Well, she thought so, she didn't exactly know but knew it was worth a shot.
"No, I don't have a crush on him. He's great and everything, but I just...I'm not quite there. Why, Cassie? Hmm?" she asked, hoping to get the answer out of her friend.
Untold Secret
Cassie holds her breath as Rosie starts talking about her friendship with Zephyr, repeating her every sentence in her mind. 'Friends for many years.' Her heart sinks. Rosie repeats the fact that they are friends ever since childhood. Many years... How many months is it since Cassie knew Zephyr? Only a bit over half a year. Are they even friends? Maybe yes. They have jogged together for a few times, organized club activities together, talked after the spring royalty pageant... but nothing more. When she spots him standing in the crowd, she doesn't even have the reason to talk to him. Even when their eyes met, Cassie could do nothing but smile warmly.
'Their parents know each other.' If they happen to like each other, their parents may support them at once. They know so much about each other. Their family, their living habits, their everything. Who knows? Cassie may not even stand a chance.
Haven't seen him a lot here. Cassie sighs in her mind. Rosie can talk with Zephyr at almost any time she wants, but this is nothing compared to the time they spent together before Hogwarts. But Cassie? She has to look forward to their club meetings for a whole month, and value every second during the two hours of activities. These are the only moments when she can talk to him and look at him, without being suspected.
Cassie can tell that Rosie is thinking of how she can answer her questions, but the few seconds seem like a whole year for Cassie. Finally, as if in slow motion, Cassie hears the answer. 'No.' She doesn't. Cassie shouts in her mind. SHE DOESN'T HAVE A CRUSH ON HIM! I DO HAVE A CHANCE and she feels fireworks ignite in her mind. And it goes blank for a few seconds, which feels like forever. She is so excited that she feels like she is flying high up in the air.
When she pulls herself back to reality, she tries hard to recall what Rosie just said. Rosie asked why she raised this question. An idea pops in her mind. If she doesn't have a crush on Zephy, maybe I can tell her my secret. Perhaps she can help me.
Cassie will never understand why she has the courage, but she says softly to Rosie, 'I want to tell you a secret.' she leads her to the edge of the great hall, for she doesn't want her secret to be known by anyone beside Rosie. 'Actually...' she pauses to take a deep breath, 'I have a...' the words are just too hard to leave Cassie's lips. 'crush, on' she pauses again, as if she's making an important decision, 'Zephyr.'
She feels relieved. Catching her breath, she waits to see how Rosie will react. She is ready to tell her some more details, if she'd like.

Untold Secret
Beautiful Banner by the amazing Dido Bleaklane! FC by the awesome Cassandra Tarot!
@Cassie Jiang 4/30/26, Dinner Time
Rosie was swallowing a bite of food she'd taken...tart, she believed, when Cassie suddenly told her that she wanted to share a secret. Rosie was a bit confused, as to what in the world this secret could be about, but she set down her tart and followed as she was led to the edge of the Great Hall.
She immediately began thinking about what secret could possibly need to be shared so far away from everyone else, rather than just whispered in an ear as is normal. Whatever it was, it must've been pretty important though, as Cassie seemed a bit nervous, like she was working up some courage to share it.
Then, she heard it. A crush. From Cassie. On none other than...
Windy?!?
Well, that was most certainly...unexpected, she thought, a bit caught off guard.
Wait, no it wasn't! Rosie had literally just been thinking about it! But, regardless, it was definitely surprising to hear the words coming directly from her friend, rather than just from Rosie's own mind.
Rosie didn't quite know what to think about it, now that it was a definite thing and not just an idea or a possibility. I mean, there was nothing wrong with Cassie having a crush on Windy. Sure, she was a bit older than him, but it wasn't like they were dating already or something like that.
Wait.
That's what a crush leads to, isn't it? she thought. Dating between the two people, if the crush becomes mutual? Huh, wow, okay then. That would definitely be...very...interesting...
Rosie then snapped out of it, realizing that she was sounding crazy, even to herself(which was quite a feat). It wasn't as if she had a crush on Windy or anything, or that she knew of anyone else who did. There shouldn't be any competition or anything stopping the crush from being perfectly fine. So why was it that Rosie's heart suddenly began to physically hurt?
Eh, probably the tart. She had swallowed it a bit fast because of the promise of a shared secret, so it would make sense that it had gone down wrong or something. Yeah. That was it.
All of those thoughts had gone through her head in the span of about 7 seconds, displaying just how quickly her brain went when presented with something as huge as that. She realized though that any longer before she spoke would be socially innapropriate, so she had to say something.
"Oh. My. Goodness! That's so cool! Aww, you two would be perfect together! Now we just need to get him to stop being so oblivious!" she said, already thinking through how to do that. Don't get her wrong, she loved Windy. In a friendly way, of course!!! But, he wasn't exactly the quickest at picking up on things like feelings. Which, obviously, Rosie did not know from experience. Anyways...they'd definitely have to make sure to make things really obvious, because that would be the only way he'd really register anything going on.
She immediately was ready to become a wing-girl, prepared to do whatever it took to get the two of them together, or at least get Windy to understand what was going on.
"How long have you liked him? Why? Are you going to tell him?" she asked quickly, rapid-firing the questions off. She was genuinely curious, and desperately needed answers!
Untold Secret
Rosie keeps silent for a few seconds, not out of Cassie's expectations. She knows that her secret must be a huge surprise for the girl. What would she say? Cassie wonders. Will she be excited and ask some more details? Or will she disapprove since Cassie is two years older than Zephy? Or... there are just too many posibilities.
The few seconds feel like a century. And Cassie gets her reply-- Rosie comments that they will be perfect and asks her questions about her crush-- loads of questions. Smiling happily, Cassie begins to tell her story.
'That's a lot of questions!' she exclaims, 'let me answer them one by one. Hmm...' she begins to recall the past, going through her memories. 'I've had a crush on him for... when was the spring pageant? Oh like two weeks I suppose? It's April 30th now, and it starts when I did my spring pageant performance.' Cassie smiles when she recalls her memories. 'I can't really tell why I had a crush on him that very moment. I experienced a feeling I've never felt before, it's like...' she tries to find the most appropriate words to describe her feelings, but she fails. 'I can't describe it. But I'm sure that it's the feeling of having a crush. The whole story is long indeed.'
Cassie decides to start from when she and Zephy first met. 'Last October, I set up a club, which I told you last time on our way from the library to the owlery I think. Coming back after a year of absence, I had few friends and almost no one to talk with. Zephy was the first student who would like to join my club.' she feels her cheeks burning as she talks about her crush, a bit embarrassed but excited too.
'As I was very lonely at the time, I was really excited when he signed up for the club. I asked him if he would like to be the deputy head of the club, and he agreed.' Cassie can still remember the day when Zephyr agreed to help her with club issues. It was the first time since her return to Hogwarts that she felt kindness from other students.
'He is very responsible indeed. Once we did volunteer work in the library, I was struggling with keeping track of the game points. Then… I realized that he had done everything neatly already. I always have peace of mind when he is beside. I really appreciate his down-to-earth manner. '
The story has not yet ended, Cassie hasn't talked about their jogging experiences, their talk after her performance, but she is eager to see how Rosie would react...

So sorry for the late reply! Exams and trips got in the way, but I'm here again!
Rosie knew that she had asked quite a few questions, but still. If her best friend had a crush on her other, oldest best friend, then she was therefore in charge of making sure that no hearts got broken in the process. This meant that she needed to vet this potential match, and make sure that nothing would go south.
"Two weeks? Well, not the longest of times, but enough to show you've thought it through." she said, as Cassie continued answering her many questions.
"Yeah, I get that! It's like...you're heart speeding up and your breath getting strange, and feeling almost a special sort of warmth towards the person, right?" she asked, pretty sure that she understood what Cassie was saying.
"Oh, yes, you mentioned your club! And a very sweet way to first meet." she said, trying to remember when she herself had met Windy. Years and years and years ago, that's about all she knew. With their parents being friends, they'd known each other since they were really young.
"He is pretty responsible, isn't he? But not the most observant of feelings, so good luck with getting him to realize anything!" Rosie said, well aware of his obliviousness.
