TriQuidditch Toss-up

TriQuidditch Toss-up
The Quidditch Stadium was built for, of course, Quidditch; hence, it was the perfect place to set up the Quidditch activity for the Hogwarts field day organised by Kitty and the various sports captains of Hogwarts. Though it was undeniably a popular sport and an iconic feature of the castle and the extracurricular programs, this activity was organised to help students learn about the equipment that was part of the sport, and help them get familiar with it.
The activity would take up quite a bit of space, considering it had to accommodate not only for the students participating, but also for safe interaction with each of the balls used in Quidditch: the Quaffle, the Bludger, and the ever-elusive Golden Snitch. The students would be provided with school brooms if they had none of their own, and they were free to pick which of the balls they would choose to try and interact with.
The first of the stations was dedicated to the Quaffle. A single one has been released to simulate the real-game high stakes environment of multiple players going for the same ball. The usually grand and small hoops have been made a bit shorter and wider for students to have a slightly easier time getting the red ball through. No Keeper has been assigned to guard the hoops — students are encouraged to do their best at performing a quaffle grab and score, practicing their accuracy and precision.
The second of the stations is dedicated to the Bludger, the balls of black iron used for the more offensive parts of Quidditch. These were usually enchanted to fly around and try to knock players off of their brooms, the Beaters’ job being to redirect them away from their teammates and towards their opponents. Any aspiring Beaters would be provided with a bat (and a school broom, if needed) and free to fly up into the air and try their hand at hitting one of the unruly Bludgers. Of course, no one was supposed to be bludgering any of their fellow students here, so a few dummies were also set up and suspended on brooms in mid-air for students to practice their strength and aim.
The last of the balls was perhaps the most flashy and recognisable, and yet the smallest. The Golden Snitch, a walnut-shaped and golden thing with silver wings — the one that ended the game when caught, awarding whoever did 150 points. The ability to find one is high on the list for any team seeking for a Seeker, so today, students are invited to try their hand at not only spotting, but also catching the elusive Snitch.
Down below all the activities, there’s another, smaller pop up canopy, like the ones in the General Area. Similarly, it features a water station for any parched students to treat themselves to, a few bean bags to sit on, and some pamphlets about Quidditch. This is also where any students without a broom of their own should pick up and return one of the school-provided brooms.
OOC InformationThis is one of four mass threads for the Hogwarts Field Day errand. If you haven't already, please sign up here to be able to participate and receive the rewards. The post above is a description of the Quidditch-themed game for this errand.
The goal of this game is for students to get familiar with the three balls used in quidditch: the Quaffle, the Bludger, and the Snitch. Each of them has had its own mini-activity set-up at the Quidditch stand, where students can attempt to score through a smaller sized hoop, hit a bludger against a dummy, or try to catch a real life snitch.
There is no sign-up, teams, or keeping score during this activity: the moderated actions are here to teach about the OOC mechanics that go into moderating a real quidditch match. Moderation rounds will happen once a week (for a total of three rounds throughout the event). We will only count you amongst the pool of moderated actions if you have posted that round. Unlike a real quidditch match, though, students are free to quit or swap from activity to activity at will: try scoring with the quaffle one round and hitting a dummy with a bludger the next!
Please note your moderated action as well as your stats somewhere clearly in your post, otherwise your action will not be considered for that round. The actions you can choose from (detailed below) are only a very simplified snippet of the full and very expansive Quidditch system we have on site!
Available actions:Quaffle Grab & Score:
This is where the player attempts to gain control of the Quaffle. If the player gets the Quaffle, the player will attempt to score with the Quaffle. There are five attempts to grab the Quaffle in a single round.
The Math: [Accuracy Stat]
This is a contested Accuracy roll between every user that attempts to grab a Quaffle. The highest accuracy roll with accuracy stat would gain control of the quaffle. The user that gains control of the quaffle would automatically attempt to score. This is a contested accuracy roll between the player attempting to score and the Keeper if the Keeper is defending the rings/blocking; though for the purposes of this event, no Keepers have been assigned, and scoring has a pre-set DC of 20.Bludgering:
This is where the Beater hits a Bludger into a chosen enemy target.
The Math: [Accuracy Stat] [Strength Stat]
This is an accuracy roll (for the attacking character) against an opponent's evasion (here, a dummy with a pre-set evasion stat of 7). The damage done would be 75 x the attacking character's strength score. If hit, the target takes the damage.Search:
This is where a Seeker attempts to find the snitch. Every round that the Seeker attempts to find the snitch they will have a better chance of finding the snitch.
The Math: [Wisdom Stat]
DC for finding the snitch is 15 + lowest Seeker Wisdom. Every round a user attempts to find the snitch there is a +1 to their attempt. After the snitch is found, there is a 2 round cool-down where the Seeker is Chasing the snitch. During this round they can perform other actions, such as save or a quafflegrab, even as they endeavor to get closer as the snitch erratically flies about the pitch.Catch:
This is where a Seeker attempts to catch/grab the snitch. Every round that the Seeker attempts to catch the snitch they will have a better chance of grabbing hold of the snitch.
The Math: [Accuracy Stat]
DC for grabbing the snitch is 15 + lowest Seeker Accuracy. Every round a user attempts to grab the snitch there is a +1 to their attempt.

It was a beautiful Saturday. The birds were singing, the sun was shining and the sky was crystal blue. Or, at the very least, it felt that way to Dido who was almost shaking from excitement. Professor Townsend, alongside the sports captains, had apparently set up a field day for Hogwarts’ three sports! Ever since her first flying lesson, Dido had looked forward to flying in an actual Quidditch match and, while this wasn’t quite a proper match like the few she had already watched, it was definitely as good a chance she would get to have ago- at least until a space opened up on the Slytherin team.
So, utterly beaming, Dido crossed the stadium and headed towards the large Quidditch area, absentmindedly fiddling with the Ravenclaw crest that was sewn onto her robes as she stubbornly ignored the Duelling section. Passing a handful of very comfy looking beanbags, She rushed over to the school brooms, picked up the first one she could and laid it on the grass a little while away, recalling her flying lessons with an extremely concentrated expression, her tongue sticking out ever so slightly.
“Up!” she said, much more quietly and confidently than she had in that lesson, and up the broom came, rocketing into her hand. She grinned. Again.
As Dido straddled the broom, she surveyed the options in front of her. To one side, there was a small station seemingly based around being a seeker. A little further away was what looked like the area for the beaters. Finally, there was a section for Chasers and assumably Keepers with three slightly shortened hoops. Looking at what the other people were doing, Dido made her way to the final station, joining in their scrum for the Quaffle and hopefully grabbing it before someone else could. Goodness, she thought, This is fun.

Lennon walked to the stadium but he was walking realy slow because he is realy sluggish and his weak muscles were hurting from the walk. He saw the other students and they looked realy happy to be flying so he thought he should try to be a nice guy and try the practice even though he was feeling realy tired and sleepy and he isnt even on the team. He is a Slytherin and he usually just likes to stay in the common room because it is quiet and he can do his math. He picked up a school broom from the shed and it felt realy heavy and bad in his hands but he used his mathamatics to think about how to fly high. He kicked off the ground and he was wobbling a bit because he is not realy strong but he wanted to see the red ball. He saw the Quaffle flying around and he started to use his logic and his math brain to see where it was going to go even though he doesnt have a uniform or any pads. He did not want to hit a Bludger because those are realy scary and he is too weak for that so he just stayed near the hoops which were shortened for the event. He reached out his hand realy fast to try and reach for the ball. He hoped the other Slytherins would see him and think he was trying his best at the practice even if he was moving realy slow like a turtle. He squinted his eyes behind his glasses and tried realy hard to reach for it so he could be a good student.
The sun was realy bright and it made his glasses foggy which was realy annoying because he already has bad eyes. He wiped them on his green and silver robes but they were still a bit greasy and gross. He saw the other students flying around in the controlled practice area and some were going a bit faster than him but Lennon was just floating there like a balloon that is losing air. He felt realy bad about himself because he is not a big jock who has muscles like a giant. He is just a Slytherin kid who likes books and math and numbers. He started to think about the gravity and the wind speed because that is what his mathamatics and his high wisdom told him to do. If the wind is blowing at ten miles per hour then he should lean to the left but his broom was so old and crappy that it didn't realy listen to him. It made a weird creaking sound like an old door.
"Watch out!" someone yelled from the field but Lennon didnt listen. People were practicing their flying in the controlled area and it looked cool but he was just trying not to fall off. Lennon felt a bit better because he wanted to show that Slytherins are smart and not just mean. He tried to fly higher but his legs were shaking and his stomach felt realy weird like he had too many beans for lunch. He saw a Bludger coming at him and it was big and black and scary. He screamed a little bit but it was a quiet scream so nobody heard it. He ducked his head and used his evasion logic to try and stay away from it. The Bludger went past him and it made a loud sound! Lennon almost fell off his broom because he was so scared. His heart was beating realy fast like a drum.
He looked around for the Quaffle again. It was a bright red ball and it was moving between the other students. He used his logic to see that another student was going to throw it. He moved his broom that way even though it was realy hard work for his weak arms. He felt a sharp pain in his shoulder but he didnt quit. He was being realy brave even though he is not a Gryffindor type of guy. He saw the ball coming toward him! This was his big chance to show everyone that he could do practice too.
He reached out his hand realy fast and his fingers reached for the leather of the ball. It was realy slippery! He tried to squeeze it with all his might which is not a lot of might because his strength is realy low but he hoped it was enough. He tried to hold it against his chest. The wind was hitting his face and his hair was all messy but he didnt care. He wanted to go lie down and take a nap for a thousand years but first he had to land. He felt realy proud of himself for using his mathamatics to help out.

After heading towards the small canopy where the spectators and the school brooms were gathered, Richard made his way to the snitch demonstration area. Although he had often attended the Montrose Magpies games and enjoyed watching the school games, Richard was far from knowledgeable about the rules of the sport. Everything always happened so fast that when he focused on one player, he invariably missed a key play by another. So, he had decided to give the sport a try.
Lacking a muscular build, Richard was rather a slender and agile one. The snitch's stand was the most obvious choice to try initially. Arriving at the front, he watched the students already in flight, scanning their zone in every direction, hoping to find that golden glow that promised victory. Some were impressive, clearly talented or experienced by years of practice at home. Others were struggling, their faces looking like constant interrogation points.
Richard mounted his broom and waited for the signal to be given. As soon as he received it, he stamped his foot on the ground to firmly gain height. This wasn't easy, as everyone present was so focused on their search, accidental collisions seem unavoidable. Rhythmed by the enthusiastic hubbub of the students in the stadium, Richard calmly began to look all around him, his broom swaying awkwardly with each clumsy movement.

♡♡♡♡♡♡Riley was quite excited to be in the air again. She had participated in a few different unofficial quidditch matches, but this was the first ‘official’ one. She has arrived in a sportsy outfit, a blue Ravenclaw jersey, and some athletic shorts. She assumed that would be okay. She wasn’t sure how this was going to work, since there weren’t assigned teams and it was basically a free-for-all. It was described to her as a solo sort of thing, but she still didn’t understand how that could work. Nevertheless, she was here.
Riley finally arrived at the pitch, and spotted a few people. Mostly first years, and all unrecognizable. So she would be alone. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Riley didn't own a broom just yet, but not owning a broom wasn’t all bad. In unofficial quidditch matches, usually, people who don’t own a broom got lended one by their teammates. In this case, she would have to use a school broom.
Riley smiled as she felt the fresh air on her face. It was a lovely day, unlike the previous days. She had selected a broom, and kicked off the floor, floating up about 4 feet off the ground. It felt amazing to be in the air again. She hadn’t been aloft in a while.
She would wait here now, until she received further instructions. She decided to say hello to the boy nearest her. He had dark hair. She smiled brightly at him, her eyes squinting a bit, but still visibly blue and sparkling. ”Lovely day, right? I’m Riley by the way.” She said kindly.
Maybe she could get a new friend out of this experience.

TriQuidditch Toss-up
Ava is excited for her first Hogwarts sports day. She always loved playing sports, even when she was in a Muggle school. So when the notice was out that Professor Katherine was organising a Field day, she was more than excited to join them.
The seer wanted to join the Hogwarts team so badly, but the lack of vacancy has stopped her. Even if she did get selected, she wasn't used to playing Quidditch, and trying out to play this, she could get a good idea of what Quidditch actually is.
When she made her way to the field, she first made her way to the general area to get a broom. She still doesn't own one, nor can she tell her parents to get one. They recently gifted her a cat, and she is greatful of that. She didn't want to ask for more. For the school broom, she would try asking for that next year.
There were three stations, and she went to all three of them to check out the balls they showcased. She knew beforehand that she would choose the golden ball, but what's the harm in checking all of them out. The first had a Quaffle, Ava wouldn't be able to play a chaser, her aim was very bad, the second was dedicated to Bludger, just the thought of hitting someone with a Bludger makes her wince. And the last one had the most infamous balls, the Golden Snitch. And she knew what she was going to pick.
She stood on the pitch ready to go out and search for that golden ball. "UP!" Her broom shot up in her hand, while already looking around the perimeter.

Zephyr decided to go to the Quidditch section first and while in there, he didn’t join right away and just watched and observed for a few minutes just to get acquainted to what’s being offered. His attention was divided as his eyes shifted between the different setups. The first station was dedicated to the quaffle, the second station was for bludgers and the last one was for snitch. In the end, he decided to join the bludger station first. He wanted to try something new that would actually push him. When he arrived there, he picked up a bat and swung it as if testing the weight in his hand. He then moved to the side and waited for his turn without saying anything and just continue to observe.
He would have tried the quaffle first as it’s more familiar to him. In all the unofficial games he joined, he always played as a chaser, in this sports field day, he would try the things he hadn’t tried yet just to get a good idea how it feels like to play other roles. For the bludger station, they were supposed to hit a dummy. When it was finally his turn, he mounted his Silver Arrow and lifted smoothly up in the air. He loves the feeling when he’s on his broom, that was the main reason he was here. More than scoring and winning, he just love being in the air.
Time to focus on the bludger which will come into range soon enough. Better to track it properly and learn how to watch and follow its path. That ball is a nuisance, it usually just appears out of nowhere and just one wrong move and you’ll find yourself hit. And once you did, the pain was immeasurable, you’ll never forget it. He was speaking based on experience. One of the unofficial quidditch matches he joined, he was hurt badly on his side. Imagine tolerating the pain the entire game while also trying to focus on what’s happening around him. It was, by far, the most challenging game he had ever come across.
While hovering, he steadied himself. His one hand gripped the broom handle, while the other held the bat tightly. Respect to all beaters out there, the bat is fairly heavy. His posture automatically adjusted as he found his balance. He’s ready anytime!

Skylar grins excitedly as she arrives at the Quidditch stadium. Her broom, a Nimbus 1001, is held comfortably in her hands. Her eyes wander through the field, taking note of the various activities taking place in the stadium. There were people Bludgering, searching, and even attempting to catch the golden snitch.
However, Skylar's attention was caught by the quaffle above her. Her eyes drift up as she looks at the students attempting to reach for the ball. Excitement buzzes in her veins as she watches them fly overhead, imagining what would be like if she joined. She had always wanted to be a chaser, and now is her perfect chance.
Setting down her broom in a clear space, Skylar quickly mounts her broom and flies upwards. She greets the various students flying by her and offers them a small wave. However, her mind was now on the game.
Scanning through the stadium, Skylar's eyes immediately latch on to the quaffle flying through the air. A grin splits her face as adrenaline floods her body. Loading down on her broom, Skylar aims straight for it. She feels the wind whip past her face and lets out a whoop of joy. She swerves and dives for the quaffle, following its trajectory and slowly gaining on the flying object. Whether she would catch it would be left up to her skills and chance.
