It had been weeks since Ross had found the book Knox Stephens had stuffed inside the bookshelves, and it had been the only thing Ross could keep his mind on. Each page was simply so interesting. He had to keep reading and reading, and that was what he did until he made it to the end of the second year spells. It was the only thing Ross really could read for long periods of time, so perhaps that was why he would continuously reread it over and over again. Surprisingly though, Ross had never tried any of the spells. It felt a little bit like it would ruin the magic, but today he had decided to.

He always felt nervous when everyone's eyes were on him and he had not a clue what he was doing, so that was why he had come to Charms Class early. Sure the teacher was there and such, but Ross could really only hope they did not mind. It was safest to do it in a place where one could scream for help anyways, even if it was currently mainly empty.

Ross found himself rushing to set up. He had not realized how excited he had been either way. The boy grabbed the book Knox Stephens wrote, and gently placed it down upon a table right next to him. He flipped to the correct page: The General Counter-Spell. It was one of the first ones he wanted to learn considering the amount of times he had nearly gotten himself in trouble with another person, friend or foe. Besides, it was the first one in the second year book anyways so it was best to try out something so simple first anyways.

The boy shoved another desk in front of him, and soon he realized it was all set up. Glancing at the book next to him, he realized he needed an original spell to counter against. He found himself flipping back to the first year spells, in which he found the one he was most familiar with.

Directing his attention to the desk in front of him, he took a deep breath in before taking the wand out of his pocket.

In the air, with his wrist, he started off in the lower left. He brought it towards the right and then shot it up wards towards the left once more. He stopped it, making a little point before going upwards towards the right. Once he considered it far enough, he went across the top for a short distance and then dragged it down to the right. He proceeded to make the little hook that was at the bottom of the last one as well, so it looked like a pair of dancing feet. It was fitting it was called the dancing feet charm.

"Tarantallegra" he stated firmly, finding it worked best.

Sure enough, the desk sprung into action as it made a commotion on the floor. Ross found himself wishing he used a different spell as it made loud bangs that were considered the 'dancing' of the furniture world.

He needed to fix this, pronto.

He flipped back to the second year spell, glancing at it hastily though he knew the entirety of the page by heart. He refused to get this wrong once. It would simply be embarrassing, so he had to get this done right.

Starting in the upper Left this time, he made what could only be described as a sideways three to the right. He brought it down and made a diagonal angle going down to the left. He then creates a diagonal angle going up the left and mirrors the other side with a line that goes upwards. It creates the look of a shield, which Ross considered confusing but clever.

"FINITE INCANTATEM!" he exclaimed, almost as if he was convinced his wand would not hear him. Sure enough, red sparks flew as the banging slowly stopped.

It stopped.

The horrible banging had stopped.

Ross let out an audible gasp: He had done it. He had managed to successfully cast a spell without horribly ruining it. A large grin began to creep its way onto his face as he began to jump up and down excitedly.

"YES!" he exclaimed, squealing excitedly as he prepared himself to move onto the next spell soon.

As he regained his composure, he flipped through the pages in order to find the next one. He hoped it would be at least fun ,and to his surprise it almost seemed like it was. It was one of the ones he had been looking forward to more than the rest. Next up for the boy was the Freezing Charm. He was convinced this one would be fun. He was so exhausted of constantly setting everything on fire by accident, so perhaps this would let him get injured less at least. Sure it was not quite literal freezing, but it seemed fun enough. Still, it sort of sucked considering he was doing this all on his own. Enchanting a desk to make a lot of noise sounded like a pathetic attempt at socializing that Ross was not exactly interested in. Still, he counted his lucky chickens he did not have to just start rearranging everything now. He had already gotten the dirty work done, but now he had to redo that same charm on the desk. By the time he was done with this, he would know the dancing feet spell better than any other.

He bounced his wand between both hands before he brought it to his right and he pointed it directly at the desk that stood in front of him. The poor thing was going to go through a lot today, and Ross was going to make its life worse. With the same pattern as he had done prior, he drew little dancing feet in the air. It was pretty funny to Ross, but he had no time to think of that as he needed to say the incantation.

"Tarantallegra" he firmly stated once more.

The desk sprung into life, and though it was a lot of clatter Ross now could finally allow himself to laugh at the silly little design that was the design for the dancing feet spell. It was pretty funny, and just about nothing could convince Ross otherwise.

Well, that seemed to have gone on long enough. The noise was quite annoying, especially coming from the desk.

"Maybe I should just use my quill next time or somethin'..." he mumbled to himself, but now was no time for complaining.

He had to get this thing to shut up. He really only needed to use this ridiculous dancing feet spell once more either way though, as the slowing charm was the only one he truly required movement for after this anyways. Ross directed his attention to the book, in which he clarified what he must do. The symbol for it was rather clever too. It was like a mountain, which was pretty funny because freezing was like ice, right? Perhaps he was just seeing pictures in things he did not need to see pictures in, but he would have liked it if that was the entire case.

Now he directed his wand towards the dancing table once more, and he felt confidence in what he was doing after the last one worked. Starting in the lower left, he made a diagonal line to the right. It went down a little towards the right, but then sprung back up and continued to go to the right. It peaked right there, before falling down. The bottom was a sideways three, and it met back to the beginning. It was a very fancy mountain, and Ross was extremely fine with this.

"Immobolus" he stated more of as a test to see if it would work well.

Sure enough, the sparks of blue began to fly as the clanging stopped once more. Ross was going to get pretty tired of this, and sure he could have combined at least two of the spells together but also Ross was horrible at multitasking. By multitasking, he meant thinking of more than one thing at once or even planning. It was for the best either way. It would be easier to learn each one individually, even if it meant reusing a lot of the spells he already knew abundantly.

Artemis stood near the rear of his classroom, leaning on a window as he watched over the young first-year Hufflepuff practice some advanced spells. The boy was attempting to use two second-year spells that he had studied up on his own and Artemis would never fault a student for wanting to learn. He could only fault a student for their choices in practice objects. The large desk before Ross Stephens started to dance around rather loudly in front of the boy and Artemis sighed as he removed an apple from his pocket and started to munch on it, praying that the loud clatter of the desk legs would stop as soon as it started. Sure enough, the lad in the room seemed to panic a bit but he eventually made the shield wand movement that went along with the General Counter Spell and said the incantation. Artemis was happy to see that the child actually studied the wand movement and was able to cast it flawlessly. It was quiet in the room, but not for long.

Once more, Ross had cast Tarantallegra on the same desk and the loud clatter began again. But this time, the child seemed more confident with what he was doing and made the wand movement for the Freezing Charm and confidently said the incantation, freezing the desk in its movements. Artemis smirked to himself before it turned into a smile as he addressed his student.

"Well done, Mr. Stephens. That was a spectacular show of spell work and I can confidently say that you have officially learned both the General Counter Spell and the Freezing Charm. Give yourself a pat on the back."
