The matter of extracurricular activities was an unavoidable part of academia. And, as any student — Hogwarts, Ilvermorny, or any of the other international schools scattered around the globe — could tell you, there were few activities more exciting than sports.

Kitty herself was a huge proponent of this. During her own time at school, she was a Quodpot player, and she liked to think she was pretty damn good. Her stamina out on the field was unmatched, and, combined with her reckless teen self's propensity for throwing herself at other players with little regard for personal safety, made her a player to be feared. She had dabbled in Quidditch, too, very briefly, but quickly found her heart belonged to the more American of the sports: she liked the imminent danger and the element of risk involved with handling something that could explode at any moment. It was a game of chance as much as it was a game of skill — and as a teen, she gravitated towards exactly that kind of chaos.

Still, Kitty was happy to find that the Brits had plenty of their own school sporting spirit. Hogwarts offered three official sports, two of them on brooms: Broom Racing, Duelling, and of course, Quidditch. She had already seen a few games during her inter-school visits here, but it was a distinctly different experience now, when she was a professor: watching everyone file into the stadiums, tracks, or the duelling club, dressed in house colors, ready to cheer their teams on.

Though Hogwarts’ unofficial clubs couldn't quite match Ilvermorny's, their official sports were absolutely nothing to scoff at. Kitty found that the captains of each of the three official sports were all incredibly passionate people, some of them as young as their first or second year. It was incredible; and, as spring approached, and the weather outside the castle warmed, Kitty took it upon herself to make sure the students would get a taste of the sports at their disposal.

So, on a warm May day, the Quidditch Stadium had been transformed into the venue for a Hogwarts Field Day. The weather was perfect: only a light breeze in the air and a sunny sky with a few clouds billowing overhead. Three stations had been set up, assisted and run by a plethora of captains from each of their respective houses and sports; there was also a general area as well, overseen by Kitty herself, for students to ask questions and spend time outside with other people potentially interested in sports.

The general area was the first you would see as you entered the stadium, full of chatter and people buzzing around. Kitty herself was circling about this section, making sure everything was going smoothly. As students filed in, searching for activities to do, she would happily be greeting anyone nearby, giving directions or answering questions as needed.

The general area consisted of a few pop up canopies in a variety of colors set up to provide reprieve from the sun and allow for a more calmer atmosphere than the rest of the event. Underneath the canopies stood small stands with pamphlets providing a bit of information about each of the activities that students could partake in today; a few of the sports captains Kitty had talked to were scattered about to field questions, too. Seating was provided in the form of a few bean bags and magically suspended hammocks for any students who needed a moment of rest. If the sun got to anyone, there was also a table with lemonade and snacks laid out for students to take freely. The atmosphere was pleasant, full of energy and excitement for the activities ahead.
OOC Information
This is one of four mass threads for the Hogwarts Field Day errand. If you haven't already, please sign up here to be able to participate and receive the rewards. The post above is a description of the general area, where students are free to chat, relax, grab snacks, and ask questions about the three sports currently offered at Hogwarts.

For more information about each of the activities, please check out their respective threads — QUIDDITCH, BROOM RACING, and DUELLING. Each will explain the activities further. If you have any questions, feel free to owl me!

A special thank you to all the sports captains who helped me & Akinyi with preparing and maintaining this event: Vale Ashwood, Pax Zhang, Alyss Gilmour, Della Barfield, Charlotte Winfield, Mylo Atkins, Lyanna Oak, Violence Bloodthorn, and Cecilia Merrick. We really could not have done it without you! Thank you for all the ideas, brainstorming, and balancing work that went into this: you are all incredible, and your effort cannot be understated.

If you'd asked Robin's lazy introvert self a year ago, he would've told you with confidence that there's no way he'd go to a school-organized sports event, of all things.

Well, here he is, standing near the entrance of the Hogwarts Quidditch Stadium with his water bottle in hand and wand in the pocket. Robin wore a blue tee, long black baggy pants, and a brown checked shirt. The weather is only a bit chilly as summer had already began to creep behind the face of spring, the temperature not at all unusual for this Scottish boy, so he tied the shirt onto his waist for now.

It's may already . . . Robin sighed with complicated emotions. So many things happened this year, he made new friends, tried new things, almost lost his new best friend, and almost lost his sanity and possibly life to his urge to try new things. May started, June will follow. Towards the end of June comes the end of the semester—of his first year at Hogwarts. It was a strange feeling, seeing himself drift towards a higher year. Like he will mature a lot with that advancement, but also nothing will change.

Lost in thought, Robin didn't notice an incoming shoulder. He was bumped by a Hufflepuff boy who also seemed to be roaming in the depths of his consciousness, as they were equally startled. The boys apologized to each other and backed away in opposite directions, with Robin drawing the short straw and bumping into someone else with that movement.

"I-I'm very sorry—" He stopped himself in the tracks when his eyes met that of a familiar face. Robin's face brightened up a bit, not an extreme change but enough to make his downward mouth horizontal. Something that, for him, resembled a faint smile.

"Hallo, Mikaela. How've you been lately?" Seeing his recently found reading partner was a delightful surprise. Robin didn't anticipate her presence at this rather sporty event, but his confusion was quickly dispelled after remembering her name on the duelling team waitlist, one position above him.

After hearing her response to his greeting, Robin nodded in acknowledgment. "I just got here, but I heard there's a duelling event, are you here for that too?" Robin paused to observe a poster set up near where they were standing, "I wanted to try it out. Looks like it has different rules than normal duels . . . I want to clarify some points with Professor Townsend." Robin didn't want to keep Mikaela occupied if she wanted to go somewhere by herself, so he decided to split up with her.

"Um . . . see you at the duelling area?" His face light up even more with her confirmation, "Aye, see ya!"

Robin’s journey to locate professor Townsend was quite short lived, as she was an obvious beacon of helpfulness, constantly answering the parade of questions thrown at her with confidence and ease.

He approached with his own inquiry, eventually getting the confirmation he needed about team selection. As long as there isn’t a striking imbalance, they can choose for themselves. Of course he will choose blue in that case, not to be stereotypical but . . . Robin is a Ravenclaw. Also look at his clothes. The preference couldn’t be more obvious.

Well, I wasn't on my best streak lately. I was stressed, and distracted, and hungry, and overall, sad.

Pa said that it was because of the seasons changing. That I always get like this when they're transitioning. That I just don't like it when things change.

I thinks it's because of the date. Tomorrow, it would be the second anniversary of my mom's death. And the first one I'd have to deal with alone.

Last year, we went to her grave and spent the day there. I think I heard him crying on his room when we went to sleep. I placed her picture over my desk, a few candles, and prayed to her. Like a Saint.

I think I'll do the same tomorrow: Maybe I'll write her a letter, burn it, or pray to her again and then go cry on an empty corner. But today?

Today I wanna get distracted. Just for a while.

Recently, I had signed-up for Ravenclaw's duelling team. Pa told me to get into some... activity that included a sport. And I didn't want to touch a broom unless it was strictly necessary. So I signed up for duelling. I think it suits me the best. Besides, it will help me to get my stress off.

Which led me here today. And now I was there, looking for any familiar face to go bother or stay with, until someone bumped into me.

I turned around and, before I apologized, the other person was already on it. I smiled. A familiar face.

"Oh, hi, Robin!" Please, don't mention the book. My pa hasn't replied to the letter yet. I nodded. "Great! How are you?"

I looked at the poster, too...

Yeah, it looked different. Mom once told me that she wanted to make it into Hufflepuff's duelling team, but she never made it out of the waitlist. She told me great stories about it, though.

It was definitely different. It looked like Robin was here for it, too. And maybe he signed up for the duelling team, too. Great.

"Um... see you at the duelling area?" I nodded with a smile.

After he left, I wavered around a bit more and, bored, I decided to finally go to the duelling area.

"I was good. I was really good."

I walked out to the Quidditch stadium, ready for the Hogwarts Field day. I was really excited when I found out, I started bouncing on my toes. I hadn't done a field day since primary school and I thought It was quite fun. I loved wearing the colored shirts, supporting the class, surprising everyone on how surprisingly fast you can run. I always had fun during field days. Today I wore a bright pink tank top and jean shorts. It was very preppy and wasn't my usual style but it worked. I also wore some white converse sneakers. My hair was up in a practical Buble braid and I loved it. I wondered what we would be doing? Obstacle courses? Relay Races? I was pretty surprised when I saw brooms and dulling areas. I laughed at myself. Your at Hogwarts silly! I thought. No matter what I would always be a muggle at heart. I finally was at the Quidditch stadium and the sun was shining and it was quite warm today. I spotted Mika in the stands and tried to catch her eye. I squinted my eyes and waved up at her with both hands hoping she would notice me. I ran up to the top of the stands. I was smiling like crazy for some reason. "Hi Mika! How are you doing?" I asked. I sat down on the wood bench and waited for her to respond.

Oh, Saints. Like, literally, Saints.

She was there. I mean, it's not like I tried to avoid her during my time here, but it's not my fault that we never crossed paths! Even being roommates!

Plus, what was I supposed to tell her? 'Hi, I may be your fan, you're like a Saint to me, I loved you when you were Matilda'? Definitely not.

I tried to play dumb. Like my heart wasn't trying to run a marathon (and winning) on my chest. Until she approached me and I had no other option than talk to her.

"Oh, hi, Tina! Great, how have you been? She sat. I repeat, she sat. It meant she wanted me to talk to her.

Now, don't misunderstand me: I didn't hate her. Definitely not. But I didn't know exactly what to say to her! And I didn't wanna sound rude, or mean, or obsessed, or...

Oh, Saints, I was a mess right now. Focus.

Did she want to join some sport? She looked like she'd do a great job at some flying thing, maybe a racer? Yeah, she had vibes of a racer.

Breathe. I sat down next to her.

And, for Saint's sake, whatever you do, DON'T ASK FOR HER AUTOGRAPH.

"I was good. I was really good."

Mika came over to me. Thank gosh I know someone here... I thought while she said hello and she asked me how was I. It was funny, I didn't see Mika a lot even though we are roommates. I've only seen her in the dorms. "I'm doing good Mika. How are you? I can't tell you how stupid I was for thinking that we would be doing relay races. I've only ever done Muggle field days. Never a wizarding one." I said. I was almost too excited about this. I didn't want to embarrass myself at flying but I did seem fun. I saw Dido Bleaklane already on a broomstick from the stands. I played with the end of my bubble braid."So what sport are you doing today?" I asked. I was very curious about what everyone was doing today. Today was the type of weather that had lots of potential to be very warm or even hot. I wondered if anyone else I knew was coming down to field day but I tried to stay focused on the person here. Right now. My eyes followed the bright red ball getting tossed around. I think I read about it before. "That's a...Quaffale right?" I asked Mika curiously. She must of thought I was very silly or trying to play a prank on her. "I'm serious by the way." I said, getting a proper look at her. The poor thing always looked like she was going to explode when she saw me. I waited for her answer.

A sports event huh? She thought to herself when she had first seen the notice. She wasn't the most interested in either Quidditch or Broom Racing. But Duelling? She would happily participate in. Ever since her first duel she couldn't stop remembering how exhilarating it was. The way the spells flew back and forth, the precision and the feeling created within the duelling club, she could hardly sleep for a week after that day!

Fawkes walked down to the Quidditch Stadium looking around at the venue. She was glad they chose to have the event in May, since it wasn't cold anymore and it certainly wasn't as hot as the July sun could get. It was perfect weather.

She walked over to one of the canopies, looking for the duelling pamphlets. She finally found them and took one before going to the side and flipping through it to refresh her memory a bit. She went over to the lemonade table while still having her nose buried in the pamphlet. She took a glass and sipped it slowly. When she was done with the pamphlet, she finally looked up and started to head over to where the duelling event would be held in a little bit.

If you feel lost look up at the night sky. The stars will light your path!

It was a warm day on the second day of May. When Ophelia first heard about it and decided to sign up, she didn't think this event would be a huge deal. Oh, man, was she wrong. The Quidditch stadium was so crowded that it would've usually been overwhelming for her. But she'd decided on at least trying something new here, as she'd promised her mother a few months back about trying new activities in Hogwarts.

On the downside, Ophelia didn't know anything about any of these three sports, but that was the point of this event, right? She was almost regretting not attending with a friend or just anyone else she knew. No take-backs now, though. She didn't know what to start with, nor did she have any interest in asking anyone for help.

Ophelia sat down in a corner on the grass, preferring the floor over the bean bags and hammocks. The cool grass gave her a sense of familiarity with when she was at home, which was very rare; Ophelia had surprisingly not gotten homesick during all her months at Hogwarts, and now grass, out of all things, was reminding her of how much she missed going out to parks and meadows with her brother and father.

Shaking her head, she stood up and moved to a station nearby. The sooner she tried these sports out and maybe found one that she liked, the better.

I shrugged. Well, at least you've been at muggle field days. I've never done anything like this, now that I think of it. Every field day that was made at one of my schools, I somehow managed to fall sick. Or I don't know, but at least I associate it with the memories of that awful hospital smell and the hay with cables on my head... Anyway.

"Duelling! I signed up for the club a few days ago and now I'm on the waitlist. But now that I see it, it's kinda like capture the flag." My mind trailed off a second there. I shook my head.

A red ball flied around us, being tossed and laughed at by students. Quidditch, I assumed. Well, good for them. I'd never in my life get over a broom on will. The only times I'd been over a broom were... Flying lessons. And that because I had no other choice. I couldn't avoid them if I tried... And I tried.

I nodded at her question. Yeah, a quaffle. The equivalent to the ball at muggle soccer. Mom told it to me once.

My eyes wavered around, looking for some other familiar face. Maybe another one of our roommates had also shown up today...

Dahlia did not bother herself much with the concept of magical sport. Yes, naturally, she had attended a Quidditch game before. She was ten years old at the time if she recounted correctly and the game had been held at the home stadium of the Wimbourne Wasps. Her father had been a fan of that team since coming to England out of the influence of his coworkers at the ministry. It was the local team for wizardfolk in London, was it not?

The Gryffindor recounted the experience with mixed feelings. It had been a summer day— quite hot— and the game, of course, was outdoors. She could feel the sensation of the sun roasting her skin the whole time. As for the gameplay, Dahlia found it decently interesting. The seeker was given far too much power, easily taking the title of the most important player. A skilled team with a terrible seeker could easily lose to a far worse all-around team with an exceptional one. The balance, therefore, felt incorrect. However, to bring offense to injury, the refreshment snacks she had purchased were not nearly up to par with those from Florian Fortescue's in Diagon Alley.

Now, thinking of it, Dahlia ought to ask her parents to take her to Florian's over summer break. She was craving either a berry blue popsicle or a classic sundae... The choice was far too difficult for her to make while standing at the Hogwarts stadium with no ice cream and no popsicle. It would only upset her if she thought too hard about it.

Hence, she turned her attention to the activities in front of her. There were three options: Quidditch, dueling, and broom racing. The latter of the three stood out as an unusual choice. However, her broom was borrowed from the school. It was certainly not faster than those of upper-years who purchased theirs themselves. Dahlia was sure she had seen at least one Firebolt during her time at Hogwarts. She would get a better broom once she was older, and if she made the Quidditch team, or so her parents said. Hence, broom racing was out. Dueling, although the most entertaining out of the sports to watch, had major risks. Namely, there was a spell such that the target became bald. Dahlia had no desire to be bald even for a short period of time. (She would look excellent still, yes. However, it would not be her best look, or so the witch thought.) She also had no desire to have her skin turn into cornflakes, to have her fingers removed, or to be otherwise harmed in similar, nasty ways. Dueling was not the sport for her.

With dueling and broom racing ruled out properly Quidditch was the only remaining choice that suited her. She could do Quidditch. Everyone could do Quidditch. It was the staple of the wizarding world— the single most basic, slightly overplayed sport they had to entertain themselves by. Anyone who could fly could do just fine with a quaffle because, and her opinion had not changed, seeker was the only true position of consequence in the game of Quidditch.

Dahlia straightened her posture once decided. She fished around in her bag. Why did she keep so many things on her person? She was a witch, not Mary Poppins. The girl rummaged through a few spare quills, a bottle of perfume, lip gloss, notes to herself, a copy of a novel, the wrapper from a chocolate frog, and leftovers from last night's dinner she had stashed away for an unsuccessful midnight snack. A-ha! Dahlia pulled out her black hair ribbon— one that would go with today's outfit— and tied her hair in a loose ponytail. She did not want it smacking her in the face while she flew.

With that, Dahlia threw her bag back over her left shoulder, tossed her ponytail behind her, and began the journey towards the QUIDDITCH ACTIVITY.
