King of the Hill Duelling
Near the general Field Day area, a spot had been picked out for the Duelling activity to take place. This one, however, would not be taking place in an environment similar to the Duelling Club itself; there would be no piste found here, the space seemingly left entirely open. The only elements of set dressing would be two blocked out areas on each side of the field: one red and one blue, with a few boxes in their corresponding colours to hide behind.
Should any student approach the Duelling activity, they would be informed of the rules. It was based less around the structured environment, and more about the spirit of the sport: spell-casting at your opponents with accuracy and power in a high stress situation. The two red and blue areas were bases for two teams, red and blue. The goal of this game is for your team to properly defend your own base and to capture your opponent’s base at the same time using your wand as your weapon.
Students could choose to play offense or defense. Those who picked offense would be charging at the opposing team’s base, casting spells. Those who picked defense would stay in their base and cast spells at the incoming attackers.
Once a student would pick their team, they’d be given a band of their corresponding colour to tie around their arm. Of course, the basic rules of conduct still applied: no shots below the belt, so to say. Students would not be allowed to genuinely harm or incapacitate their peers, but so long as everything remained above board, all spells were allowed, and students were free to let loose and sharpen their offensive spell-casting skills.

The goal of this game is for your team to properly defend your own base and to “capture” your opponent’s base at the same time. OOC, this accounts to doing the most damage to the other team’s defenders in one round. Whichever team has done the most damage will win, IC successfully “stealing” the opposing team’s base. Each team can have up to 8 people at one time. Each moderation round will be a separate “game”.
Please note which team and which position you are joining in each post. This is because each of your moderated posts will correspond to a different game/round. Failure to do so will result in your modded actions not being considered. Keep in mind that we request relatively even teams—we may request you switch teams for the sake of fairness.
In your post, please include: your stats, your active abilities, and the team and position you are joining that round. We will be following all Duelling System mechanics for this event.
There will be two teams to choose from: Red Team and Blue Team. Within these teams, there will be two positions: offense or defense.After the first 16 people post for that round, you will get 3 days to send in your moderated actions, by owl, to the moderators.
- When on offense, you are “storming” the opposing team, casting spells and attempting to do the most damage to that base’s defenders.
- When on defense, you are remaining at your base, casting spells at the opposing teams attackers.

Robin felt very nervous. As a first year still on Ravenclaw's duelling team waitlist, his past duels were all unofficial and initiated privately on a small scale. This would be his first duel with a team, and probably the last where there's a base to defend.
He was wearing the same outfit he had earlier that morning, except his checked shirt and water bottle being left in a resting area on the side of the field. The air was still a bit cool, but its the comfortable kind of wind, like you're wading through a river made of silk.
After looking more closely at the rules displayed near the entrance of the stadium, Robin had decided to give this "King of the Hill" game a try. As previously mentioned, it would be his first teamed duelling match. However, he wasn't alone.
"What position would you want to play?" He glanced at Mikaela, who was walking beside him towards the blue team's section. Both being Ravenclaws, it was only natural for them to gravitate towards that color. Unless, of course, they had to change teams due to balancing. "I'd be defense, definitely. My stamina is too low for me to be charging into the enemy's lair." Robin responded, after his friend had gave her answer.
They exchanged a few more words before arriving at their designated section and signed up for the duel. They were the first ones there, but Robin could see a few more students coming towards them or the red team's base.
Robin was excited for this new experience. Nervous, of course, but equally ready to get on with it and test his skills in a group setting. As he mentally reviewed all the freshman spells, an older student gave him a blue band to tie around his arm. His short-sleeved tee was also blue, so it looked like an extension to his outfit. Barely visible, but at least no one would mistake him as a team red member.
As all the participating students finally gathered around the open space, Robin also stood in his position. He looked at his friend Mikaela, took a deep breath, and readied his wand.

There was a brief respite where the other broom racing captains were managing the mini-track, and Della Barfield was free to run over to the duelling area. She hadn’t properly duelled since her first year—not that that was a proper duel, and really, neither was this. Back then, she could only properly cast the Dancing-Feet Spell, but she had been able to stay afloat longer than anyone—especially her—expected. But it wasn’t like her skills would be dried up. She practically duelled in the air while flying a broom. It might feel nice to concentrate solely on her casting for once and not worry about falling or colliding or the multitude of other injuries she has racked up over the years.
The rules were simple: pick a team, a position, and try to win in an all-out brawl. It would be fast, quick, and probably dirty. Della was partial to blue, so she took a position next to a first-year Ravenclaw and awaited the rest of their team to be assembled.
Her eyes caught Cash on the opposite team. She knew the sixth-year from various events over the years, and they were on the other side of the OWL exams, unlike Della, making them a formidable and possibly stress-free opponent. She was worried there would be a mad dash from underclassmen to the dueling arena, but this was already more interesting than she expected.

Well, it looked... fun, actually.
I greeted Robin again with a smile. This was getting my mood in a better way.
I thought about my options. Well, I was going to be in the blue team, definitely. But position?
I could go on defense. After all, I wasn't phisically strong enough for going against other people. But now that I thought of it...
This wasn't 'capture the flag' at the muggle way. I mean, yeah, it was basically the same, but in a wizard way. So, I didn't need much physical strenght in here, right?
"Offense, I think." I said, nodding. Easy. I was good at spelling. I knew already a bunch of spells. It should be easy... right?
Plus, my stamina was... relatively high. I guess. In summary, it all looked like this would be a good game.
"This is basically 'capture the flag', but in a wizard way." I laughed, adding the comment to Robin. He didn't say anything. Oh, wait...
He didn't know about it. So it made official my thought that he wasn't directly muggle-blooded. I nodded, frowning.
"It's a muggle game. You have to 'capture' the flag of the other team in order to win. It's fun." I smiled. I had my wand ready as other players arrived to the field.

Well Angel really was excited for the Hogwarts Field Day. Especially when she can try out duelling, it was her favourite sport here too, and her history with fencing as well. There was many faces she recognized, but many of them were new too, which for Angel was not a big deal but it would be much harder for her to know if it'd be fine joining the new faces in this duelling match. Shaking her head she step forward and, at random she chose red, offense team. Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes and opened them slowly. There much better, she was focused and ready to go.
This would be her first taste of duelling but she did observed and studied how it works. Spells and wand was all she could retained, but believing she can be skilled decided to try out and see how duelling will work out for her. One thing's for sure, Angel needed to bring the best of her abilities maybe it can also give her a advantage.
Angel her footsteps glided through the soils and there she made her place. Wondering who her teammates will be she hoped they were not negative, sportsmanship is what she valued notably when playing sports. The nerves caught up to her and the churning of her stomach twisted like a sagging wet cloth. Anyone here could be so competitive they wouldn't think on which spells they could use, it can't be helped you can not control anyone but if anything at least she was self aware to know using forbidden spells was not applicable nor should it be use. Sighing under her breath it was obvious no one would, neither would anyone want to use them anyway, only weird people do. After what seemed like a good three minutes of blanking out to the distance of gravel and bleachers she snapped out of it and rubbed her temples to not become sloppy. Duelling while fun is a sport, sports are physical.

Of course the girl had immediately gone off to the Duelling portion of the field day, it was, after all, her strongest suit. Maybe she ought to try Quidditch too, since that was her first preference before joining Hufflepuff's Duelling Team, but who was she to argue when there was an open spot for her to bring glory to their house and pride to her name. Even though her first and most recent duel had gone ...well, as unplanned... she was not to back down yet.
The Duelling area of the pitch was not of any Duelling environments that she had watched, it did not contain a piste, nor was the area small enough to accommodate six players only. The expanse was vast and wide, with two colored areas on each end and a few blocks that Tatiana presumed would be there to hide behind. As she made closer to the area, she was explained of the rules, which was strangely far off yet still connected to the Duelling System, only then was the goal to “steal” the opponents base rather than knocking the opponents off.
When given a choice to pick a team, she chose the red, but this time, not to attack, but to defend. On the red team was only one person, and a person that she had certainly not expected to join. Cassandra Ironwoods. Slytherin, Second-string Quidditch Player. Tatiana had to double take as she made her way to the red team's area. She thought that a girl like her would be prompted to join Quidditch, since, after all, she'd seen her play in matches, both official and unofficial ones, and she had to say, Cassandra was certainly a killer keeper.
And there was also another one, a first year, she presumed, Slytherin too, since she's sure that they'd crossed paths in hallways before. She offered the girl a smile, not wanting to break the atmosphere since the girl had some sort of a soft persona from first glance.
She greeted Cassandra with a smile too, silently hoping that it didn't look more like a grimace since she was sure she'd often worn it during unofficial matches that they'd played together in. She watched the blue team from the opposite end of the pitch, their team had certainly began to fill up now, they had at least four or three members from what she could make out; hopefully red team can catch up to them soon.

When she walked closer she was informed of the rules for the duelling game. To capture the opponents base while defending your own. Honestly to her, it felt similar to chess. The way you had to strategically play your moves to ensure that not only would you be able to checkmate the opposing king but also prevent your own king from being checkmated. It needed a certain level of skill to be able to play well. If she were to compare chess to the duelling game, she would think that the goal to capture the opponents base was basically checkmating the opposing king. While trying to prevent your base from being captured was exactly like stopping the opponent from checkmating your king. Being able to correlate it to something she already knew made it much easier to understand the rules.
She went over to sign up stand. Looking at the board she decided to pick the Blue Team and to play as offence. It was easier to rush in head first and attack the opposing team than it was to defend your own. Plus, she was still learning how to defend herself in these situations. It would be better to play offence over defense right now.
She looked at the blue band now tied around her wrist. It was a lighter shade than the Ravenclaw house blue but it was still pretty nevertheless. Perhaps she could wear it as a bracelet on normal outfits. It would match quite well with her mostly blue wardrobe. She went over then to where the rest of the Blue team was gathered and waiting for the match to start.
There were only 4 of them at the moment. She only recognised Mikaela since they were dormmates. The other Ravenclaw looked familiar since Fawkes may have seen him around the place. She didn't recognise the Gryffindor tho. She seemed to be an older student, presumable above the 4th year. Fawkes waited around watching as more people came to sign up for the event. She hoped she wouldn't have to wait long for the event to start however. She was ready to begin the game.ReducioTeam: Blue

The child of death hahahad and hehehed her way on to the grounds. Hades, she really needed her sports fix. She quickly looked around for the duelling area and practically ran towards it. Marcella's love for duelling is as vast as the great and mighty sea itself. The sport had carved its desirous tentacles right in and around her heart. She was quite intrigued to find out how the set up would be, as the environment was unlike the one in the Duelling Club itself; there was no piste there, and space was just left entirely open. They were divided in to red and blue teams, with a few boxes in their corresponding colours to hide behind. Marcella was instantly reminded of the flag competition in her favourite book series.
She was soon informed of the rules. She went over to the sign up board and immediately picked the red team to play as in the offence portion. She looked at the red band tied around her wrist. It reminded her of Gryffindor's bravery and courage. And that itself gave her the confidence. She was determined to win the match and showcase her talent. She looked at her team-mates. She saw a girl very familiar to her. They had met in odd classes here and there. Marcella supposed her name was Angel Dayes.

Many others start to turn up and join Duelling. In particular she noticed two people had taken a gaze to her. Two who had joined red team. One offensive and one defensive. It was cool or to her own terms awesomesauce. One was a Gryffindor who had given her a smile, received it she also smiled back. The girl was just the same year. Hufflepuff. Now the other who had just came was Ravenclaw, seeing her time to time in classes. Fair skin but not as pale as Angel's, shorter in height but alas it's good to have other teammates as well.
Few more people to join until things start, Angel hoped for more people to join. Assuming lots of students would have preferred Quidditch due to it's popularity and rather more "exciting" nature. However she could not blame nor go away from the fact yes sometimes it can be exciting and energetic. Duelling caught her eye though. Believing it might be more lax and more on her skills on what she has to offer. Quidditch was fine she almost considered it but she chooses Duelling and felt proud of her choice. Turning back to see her teammates she was interested in the two girls who just came. Going up to them quickly with her speed it seemed like a blitz.
"Hey there! I suppose you two have names? I'm Angel! Angel Dayes! But I think you guys would've heard my name in these halls." she said with a little excitement but still reserved.
