An unplanned addition Pet

Kasem had always been a cat person, or so he liked to believe, anyway. But to go from preferring cats over dogs or whatever the argument was, to actually owning one, was quite a shift. Initially, he did not even fathom the idea. But as it seems, the cat distribution system had other plans.

He found his "soul pet" around the apartment he stayed in, and one could say fate has brought upon Kasem the most chaotic and energetic cat around: A red mackerel tabby, whom he initially named Saffron, though later on would go on to name Suriya (or Suri for short). Almost as soon as he took in (quite on a whim at that) the furball, he was asking himself why, what sort of thought possessed him to go ahead and do this? The kitten was quite vulnerable on the street, though, and unfortunately, running around and exploring the world was not really the best outcome for it, either. The best choice, by all logic, was to take it in (or give it to a shelter, though he never really even considered that). There was honestly a transition period; he didn't (at least initially) intend for Suri to be fully adopted by him. It was more of an "emergency pick-up" once the weather was not-so-favorable. So take in the tabby he did; buying all the necessities, spending far too much time researching what was best (it never would have been too much), buying enough toys and enrichments to fill an entire room. Add to that shelves for climbing and places to hide and loom over the apartment, and his living space became the best for Suri in almost no time. So before he even comprehended it himself, the temporary stay was, in fact, not so temporary.
For all of Kasem's set ways and almost far too organized space and temper, Suri brought the exact opposite, and in an odd, yet almost predictable way, it worked out. The red tabby was complementing his lifestyle quite well, while somehow turning it upside down at the same time.

It did become a part of the "normal" soon enough, though. What Kasem would have considered the usual before was now including this bundle of energy that would refuse to leave his side. It was also nice to have something to return to at home, rather than open the door to an empty apartment. Not to add how adorable the red mackerel tabby greeted him, and with time, Suri even joined him on errands, lest the cat gets bored in the house, despite the multitude of enrichment a feline could have, and starts an impromptu opera show. In retrospect, Suri was quite clingy from the beginning, for better or worse. That never changed, nor will it ever likely.

For context purposes, this happened prior to being a teacher at Hogwarts - since a lot of the teachers stay on campus during the school year so there's that xD
