Tala made it early today. Well, if she was being honest, she had actually been here - on a bench facing the lake and close to it's shore, that is - since noon, reading and admiring the view. Her homework was done, and she decided to get some fresh air.
The weather was perfect. There was a cool breeze blowing the messy strands that never seemed to stay in her braid, and causing soft ripples across the lake's shimmery surface. Not to mention the setting sun, which coloured the sky in shades of orange and pink, adding an otherworldly feeling to the scenery.
Tala hadn't had the chance to see the lake at this time of the day before now, and all she could say is that Lily was right. This was absolutely breathtaking.
Speaking of Lily, where was she? They hadn't really decided on a specific time to meet, but this counted as sunset, right? Tala shook her head, as if she could shake off the negative thoughts before they were properly formed.
Lily was probably just running late, or maybe she didn't mean this early. The sun hadn't been setting for a long time. She definitely would have told me if she changed her mind or something came up. She wanted to do this...right? She even suggested meeting up at sunset. I'm pretty confident I wasn't being pushy this time.
Before she could dwell on it anymore, she saw Lily walking towards her. Smiling a big relieved smile, Tala waved at her enthusiastically, as if she couldn't already see her. "Hi, Lily!!"

She was slightly later than she was planning and she really hoped Tala hadn't been waiting for too long. The grounds were calm at this time, only a few other students walking about in the distance. Lily slowed as the lake came into view, its surface catching the sunlight in soft beautiful colors. The sky above prettier than she could have ever imagined, streaks of gold and pink as the sun descented. It was strange how something as simple as the sunset could somehow take all her worries away like they never existed.
As she got closer, her thoughts went back to Tala. Lily had liked her immediately, there was something easy and sincere everytime they talked and spent time together. Still a small bit of nerves tugged at her stomach. What if I'm too late? What if she couldn't wait for me anymore? Lily got worried as the sun was almost fully set.
She glanced toward the edge of the water, hoping to spot her friend. There she is.
Tala was sitting close to the shore, and Lily's shoulders relaxed immediately. The moment Tala looked up and waved, Lily's smiled and rushed the last few step toward Tala. "Hi," she greeted, smiling and stopping to sit next to her.

Lily came! She knew she wouldn't bail on her like that.
Yeah right. As if you weren't overthinking it a second ago.
She ignored those negative thoughts and focused on Lily instead. "How are you? I was actually just thinking about you! I've been here since I finished my homework in the afternoon - just reading and admiring the view - and was thinking about how right you were. It's absolutely ethereal out here. I especially love how the sky is so pretty. I usually prefer the night sky, but this sunset is something else." Grinning at Lily, Tala tucked some strands of hair, that were being blown by the light breeze, behind her ears as she heard the girl's response.
This time, she finally remembered to do it.
Tala stared at the rippling surface of the lake. "Do you like swimming? My dad taught me how to. We had a lake next to our house where he would take me and my siblings, and we would swim for hours. Even though I learned to like swimming, I never really got into a team or anything like that. I found my passion in writing. I'm actually working on a novel right now. What about you? What do you like to do?"

"I'm great now that I'm here," Lily replied, as Tala asked her how she was doing. "Sorry if I kept you waiting, the corridors are endless. But you're right, this is beyond beautiful." She stared at the view in front of her as she spoke. Tala's easy energy made her relax, and as she listened on, Lily didn't do anything but focus on her words, the lake ahead and the sky above.
As Tala mentioned swimming, Lily's face lid up, she always loved swimming. "Back home, we'd swim in the river near my house all the time." Lily smiled as she spoke, recalling the memories. "You're writing a novel? That's incredible! I love writing, but couldn't imagine started a novel yet. What's it about?" Lily's curious mind was taking over, but she was glad they had similar interests.✰ c'est la vie ✰
