Climbing All These Stairs Are Tough
Lennon finally reached the top of the Owlery stairs and he was breathing really hard because he wasn't athletic at all and his weak muscles felt like jelly. He looked around at all the owls sitting on the rafters and he thought they were pretty cool even if they were a little messy. He found a spot to sit on a stone ledge and he pulled out his notebook to start writing a new chapter for one of the books he liked to make for fun. His face looked totally blank and emotionless while he wrote but he was actually having a good time just listening to the owls hooting and looking out at the view of the grounds.
"Hi owls," he whispered to a big brown one sitting nearby and then he saw another student walking up the stairs. "Oh hi," he said in a friendly way to the person. "I am Lennon Han and I am a first year in Slytherin. I came up here to see if any of these owls look like they could help me with a math project I am working on but I think they are mostly just waiting for mail. I am a big math whiz so if you ever need help with your school numbers I am a really nice guy and I would be happy to help you out. I also like turtles and piranas but I dont think they would like it up here in the cold very much. Do you have your own owl yet or are you just visiting like me?" He gave a tired smile and went back to his writing.

Dido trudged her way into the Owlery, dreading having to send the letter she was holding. It felt wrong in her grasp. Like sand that slips from between your fingers or lies that flood from guilty men's mouths. Even holding it hurt her.
But Dido couldn't analyse her own emotions the way she could other people's and so, in her typical unaware fashion, she planned to send the letter anyway while attempting not to focus on the thoughts that hurt too much to mention.
As she tried, somewhat desperately, to think of other matters, she somehow found herself face down on the floor in a messy heap having seemingly tripped over another student’s feet. Dido instantly coloured bright red and pushed herself back up, muttering quiet apologies as she did so. Once back on her feet, Dido glanced at the boy she had tripped over. He was a tall boy with dark hair and was seemingly in Slytherin, though Dido didn’t recognise him from the common room. Dido glanced down at the Ravenclaw badge she had pinned over her Slytherin one. She swallowed, hoping he wouldn’t recognise her before finally asking, “Who’re you writing a letter to?” in a slightly overly loud voice, perhaps overcompensating for her previous awkward fall.

Climbing All These Stairs Are Tough
Lennon finally reached the top of the long circular staircase and his legs felt like jelly because he was not athletic at all. He leaned against the stone doorway and took a few deep breaths while his blank face tried to hide how tired he was from the climb. He looked around the drafty room and saw all the owls sitting on the wooden rafters above his head. The air was cold and smelled like straw and feathers and he watched the birds for a minute while he waited for his heart to stop racing. He saw another girl there who looked like she was about his age and he noticed she was a Slytherin too.
She was smaller than him with short brown hair and he noticed she was wearing some really bright matching socks that stood out against the grey stone floor. He watched her for a second while he adjusted his glasses and he wondered if the purple color in her eyes was some kind of magic or just a trick of the light because he had never seen anything like that before. He felt a bit sluggish as he walked further into the room but he gave her a small and friendly nod even though he looked pretty exhausted from the walk.
"Hi," he said in a quiet and tired voice. "I am Lennon and I am a first year." He looked at the owl sitting near her and then back at his own hands. "I just got here to the castle and I am still trying to find my way around all these towers but I kept getting lost. You look like you are a Slytherin too so I wanted to say hello. Do you like coming up here to see the birds? I really like animals but my parents said I had to leave my pets at home so I am just visiting these owls for now because I miss having a pet around to talk to." He gave a small smile and waited to see if she would say anything back.
