Oh, Saints, I was dumber than I thought.
I didn't think he'd assume I'd bring it from here. I made some quick mental numbers. If I sent the letter today to my dad, considering the owl delay, the book would be here on... tuesday. Great.
My eyes wide-opened a bit as I shook my head.
"Oh, no! It's not here, I meant I could get it for you from my home. I know someone who can get it for me." I nodded, trying to clear it all off. "It would be here on tuesday. Well, maybe wednesday if he sends the whole detailed edition..." I muttered, frowning.
If my dad said to Mr. Weatherby that I wanted to read Crime and Punishment again, he'd surely send the whole version. The one with the details and more information than the original one. I knew he'd do that. If he could, he'd send me the whole library if I asked it.
I really liked him. He was the only person in my life who didn't hold any expectations over me.
I shook my head slightly. When I get back home, I'll definitely make him a visit. He's the second person I miss most. After my dad, obviously.
"But it's okay if you don't want to read it now. Just tell me when you can and I'll ask for it." I said, giving him my best smile.
"I was good. I was really good"

Oh, that's what she meant. Robin felt his face burn in embarrassment with the ashes disintegrating into nothingness. That was very awkward, but he still tried to remain as unshaken as possible. "No, uh, I misunderstood. My bad." Not too successful, apparently.
" . . . it's okay if you don't want to read it now. Just tell me when you can and I'll ask for it." Mikaela seemed to back off a bit, but she nonetheless gave Robin her best attempt at a smile. It was a lot better than what his would've looked like. Robin's muscles around the mouth are so unused that they strain to the extreme with even minimal upwards movement. Robin wouldn't want to show that ugly abomination of a smile to someone he met for the first time, especially someone he hoped to stay in touch with in the future.
"Oh, I could read it anytime." Robin finally gave his response. Then he realized that maybe the girl would want a more definitive answer. "I mean, thanks. Whenever you can get your hands on it, it'd be great to finally read Crime and Punishment."
After finishing, Robin turned his head to examine the bookshelf they were standing next to. There were books on muggle transportation, muggle culture, and some literature on muggle interactions with the wizarding world. He looked for a more interesting title, finally settling on The Philosophy of the Mundane: Why the Muggles Prefer Not to Know. Robin had heard of this book, but never got to read it since muggle studies wasn't something he focused on.
He reached over to grab the book, holding it in both his hands, "I'll be reading this for now, feel free to . . . uh, join me at the table." Robin pointed behind Mikaela's shoulder, there was an empty table on the other side of the aisle. He then proceeded to walk towards that direction, but before he passed her, something jolted him back.
"Sorry, uh . . . " Robin looked at the edge of her eyes to maximize genuineness while still avoiding direct eye contact. "It was nice meeting you, Mikaela."

Code by Fawkes Chaos I nodded. Saints, I felt like the five year old kid I once was, not knowing what to do to talk or interact with someone.

Reducio ReducioFun fact: I have a trauma w the outsider cause my philosophy teacher once forced us to read it during the entire year and we never actually understood it lol Reducio@Robin Lockett
The therapists were supposed to help. They literally gave me the instructions. They told me how to behave, how to talk (literally). How to interact.
And somwhow, I still got all nervous and stuttered when someone called out my name.
I saw the book he grabbed, still frozen in place. 'The Philosophy of the Mundane: Why the Muggles Prefer Not to Know.'
So, my perception of him changed. He wasn't a muggle-blooded one. At least, not one with muggle relatives alive. Not if he was going to read about the muggle mind.
I saw him walk towards the table, and had to force my shaking hands to stay quiet and calm. I was about to read a book with a housemate, maybe a reading partner, not being chased by a lion.
Funny. That's what my second therapist told me when I still stuttered to talk. I had to hold back a smile at the memory. Ah, the poor little old me. Little did she know, huh?
The thought, however, helped me relax. So, after a few seconds, I sat across the table. Back straight, head low, silent and calm. Exactly how the nuns taught me.
I opened the book, still a bit nervous, and started the first chapter.

Robin pulled back the chair with caution, intentionally avoiding any screeching noise. He then sat on it, hands holding open the book and arms resting on the wooden table. It felt weird inviting someone to hang out with him—not like he hadn't done this before, but the people he gave invitations to previously were either established friends or those he was required to spend time with, usually due to academic assignments.
As Mikaela sat in her chair across from him, Robin started reading the book he picked. He had a muggle-born father, but he was a wizard just like Robin's mother. Therefore, the man didn't have the typical experience or mindset of a true muggle. His paternal grandparents were muggle-born muggles, but since their son became a wizard, the couple believed the existence of magic and therefore didn't apply to the research findings. As for muggles who otherwise have no ties to the wizarding world, Robin didn't encounter them regularly, so he wouldn't understand their thoughts.
Huh, I wonder what Mikaela's blood status is? Robin looked up from the introduction he's reading, realizing that the girl was focused on The Outsider. Oh, she probably already saw the iconic first line then. He didn't want to interrupt her, so he lowered his gaze back to The Philosophy of the Mundane.
Robin concentrated on reading for a while. The sun still shined through the glass windows and created a golden pool where the two children stood when they first met. Some time passed, and Robin got through a few of those initial chapters. It was interesting seeing magic from a different perspective, and he can clearly sense his brain's absorption of new knowledge. It was a great feeling—like trying a unique dish in a foreign country.
Speaking of food . . . Robin stretched his neck to look at a clock hanging on the wall. It wasn't exactly noon yet, but he wouldn't mind waiting for a bit in the Great Hall. Robin took a peek at his reading partner. Mikaela had gone through a considerable amount of the novella, but she likely wouldn't be able to finish the remaining pages before lunch time. They were silent when they read their respective material, but it was . . . maybe not "fun", but definitely "comforting". Robin secretly looked forward to receiving Crime and Punishment from her, maybe even hearing her thoughts on The Outsider, if she kept reading it and was willing to share her impressions.
"Sorry to bother you," Robin started as he closed The Philosophy of the Mundane and stood up, "but I think I'll get going. It was nice meeting you and, well, reading with you." He bowed his head, though he hesitated somewhat before opening his mouth: "See you around, uh, Mikaela."
After hearing her response, he nodded again and turned to put his book back on the shelf it came from. As his stomach let out a muffled growl, Robin confirmed his decision of arriving at the Great Hall early and digging in as soon as possible.
ReducioPhilosophy is indeed confusing:( We were going to read The Outsider for our English Language and Literature class, then our teachers changed and he modified the book list, but we already bought our copies and I was someone who read the books before we were taught them. I didn't want to waste my read, so I chose it as the topic for an essay we had to write about any literary work. I feel like that was a shi essay though, it felt redundant:(
I also did another longer essay (4000 words max and I did exactly 4000) comparing Crime and Punishment and Macbeth, and I'm proud of that one honestly, so it was cool when you mentioned C&P, I needed to contain my excitement and urge to say Robin read it before lol
