The Pity Party
Your not good enough. You'll never be good enough. You're not smart. You're too soft. You're delusional. You'll never fit in. Who would want to be friends with you. You don't deserve love These thoughts, running through my head. I was also running through the hallways ironically. With tears and the damned non waterproof mascara running down my face. I finally saw an abandoned bathroom. Perfect for my pity party. I collapsed on the floor. I wasn't perfect enough. I had made a fool out of myself. Thinking I could try flying. I couldn't even get the stupid broom off the ground! I kept replaying that moment. Everyone staring, everyone's brooms in their hands, being the one left out like I always was. The kid next to me just saying "JUST PICK THE RUDDY BROOM OFF THE GROUND" I was always the one left out. Always picked last. Hah silly that I would find friends here. "You'll never be good enough. Even though you try." I said through tears and heavy breathing. "But trying is never good enough is it Tina?" I said, still crying. There was water dripping from the sink I was hiding under. I didn't care. "Pull yourself together. Work all day if you have to." I said. "Is crying on the floor going to make you feel better. You'll never fit in no matter HOW hard you try. THAT'S why no one invited you to the spring ball. The world hates you for not being perfect. Accept that." I said sharply. I sank my posture. I saw shoes walk into the bathroom through my tears. I didn't even try to hide that I was crying. Because I wasn't perfect and the world has hated me forever for that.

l wanted to go to my room… well not really. I actually wanted to go home, wait no not there either. If l went home now, l would have to deal with my father’s disappointment, my mother’s condescending gazes.l sighed and l continue walking down the hallways… the long.. endless hallways until..
Am l imagining things?
I probably WAS imagining things, because one, l thought l heard a girl crying. Which actually wasn’t completely improbable, girls were always crying over something. I turned the corner and l saw a girl going into the old bathroom, or as l liked to call it, Crying Toilets not the best name l know, but l always found that the bathroom is where you do the most crying. I slowly followed her.. what? I was curious!
One l wanted to know who was crying and two l wanted to know why the girl was going into a old, creepy, stinky (l mean when was the last time anyone cleaned in here?) bathroom. I tip toed to the doorway and l glanced in, and l see the girl trip over something, she was about to fall! I leapt forward and l caught her! Kinda.. l sorta fell and dragged her with me..
“Oof!”
That could have gone better..

Some wounds feel so deep we don't think they'll heal, but when we open our eyes and truly look through the pain we see these three: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Someone tripped over me. Yeah that sounds weird. But someone truthfully did. Well that person could come and tell me how imperfect I was. How I needed to prove myself more? I just kept sitting under that sink, waiting for whoever tripped over me to go away. "What are you doing here?" i asked, my head still buried in my arms. "If you've come to tell me I'm not good enough of a witch to be here, well I already know that so leave. I said in a sharp tone. I didn't care who it was. I didn't even ask them if they were ok. I just wanted to be alone. Then someone else tripped on me. What the? I wondered. Yeah now two people have fallen on me. Oh joy. Just what I needed. "What do you want? I asked, through my sleeve. I peeked through the opening in my arms. There was a Ravenclaw with curly blue hair and she fell on top of someone. Someone with dark black hair. Someone I knew the name of. It was on the tip of my tongue. Has anyone ever heard of two people falling on one person. I suspected they had come here to goissip after the horrendous flying class. I wanted to vent everything to them. But the last thing I wanted was to let everyone know that little Ms perfect. Wasn't really perfect.

Do you know how to explain trying to catch someone but you ended up falling too, and now you feel awkward and you don't know how to make it.. not awkward?
No? Yeah. Didn't think so. Anyway this isn't about me, and my clumsy self. Its about the girl l saw crying under the sink. Is it bad l was happy l saw her crying?
....
WAIT, before you write me off as a world class jerk, l thought there was a ghost haunting this bathroom!! Seeing that there was at least a living breathing person here made me feel a lot better, nothing is worse than a bathroom ghost. Besides and least l could comfort her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, her head still buried in her arms. "If you've come to tell me I'm not good enough of a witch to be here, well I already know that so leave."
l tilted my head and took a long look at her, she looked nice and really pretty, probably someone who would have a gazillion friends. Why would she of all people think shes not a good enough witch? l get up and l sit next to her under the sink, trying not to gag at the rotting smell.
DOES NO ONE CLEAN IN THESE BATHROOMS?!!
l sat criss cross applesauce and l smiled kindly at her, at least l think l did, l was still trying to get over the smell but anyway.
"l don't know what happened to make you think that way but l'm sure its not true!"
l had no idea who this girl was but l was sure she wasn't a failure of a witch, maybe she was having a bad day.
"What do you want?"
l shrug. l really didn't know, maybe l just wanted to sit here in this stinky bathroom so she wouldn't be alone.
"When l was little my Mum would always comfort me and make me feel better. If l was sad alone, l probably would have stayed that way."
l gently squeeze her hand.
"You don't have to tell me what happened. But if you do, l can help."
l may not be popular. Or good at making friends, talking without over analyzing, every. single. word.
BUT.
l knew l wasn't just going to wasn't just going to walk away like nothing happened.

"Oh!" Someone had grabbed Kylie and fell with her. Kylie looked around after standing up and noticed Tina Carrile. "Sorry Tina!"
Hmm, was Tina crying? Kylie thought, It sure looks like it! Oh, no! What happened? Is she okay?
Tina shouted at Kylie, and Kylie felt tears prick her eyes before thinking She's the one who needs comfort, not me. There was another girl with curly hair. She had been the one who caught Kylie! She reached for Tina and said words of comfort. Kylie sighed, she didn't know what to do! She felt... useless. She had wanted to help, but when she had the chance she hadn't taken it!
"Can...can I help you, Tina? Are you okay?" Kylie asked, hoping Tina was fine. She hadn't come for gossip, she had come to splash her face with water, after being red from staying outside for so long.
"Do you need something? A snack, a friend, some space alone? Kylie asked worried, "I can leave if you want to be alone! You know what? Sorry for disturbing you!Kylie walked a few steps away. She wanted to help. It just looked like nobody wanted her there. She was ruining everything, and it was time for her to leave. Kylie didn't quite reach the door yet though.

Wait!
Oh fudge. Did l say that too loud? Maybe. But if the other girl left, l would be alone with Tina! And that could NOT happen. l got up and l gently grabbed her hand.
"l'm not good at being comforting! l don't really know her, and it seems like you do, and l think Tina needs a friend right now. Please stay."
Besides if she left l had no idea what the frog l would do! l didn't have friends to comfort (or any friends at all) so l don't know what to say, and what if l say the wrong thing and make things worse. Or what if l already made things worse? ARGH!! Why is it so hard to just talk to people without thinking its the end of the world? Actually l'm pretty sure no one has that problem but me.
l really need to get some help... maybe a therapist. NOPE, l hate therapy.
l sat back down next to Tina, and l looked up at the girl with the long black hair.
"Please, sit. Maybe we can talk it out together."
l pat down next to me and l look at Tina, taking a deep breath, thinking through my thought before l speak.
"If you want, we could just sit here with you until you feel better?"

The curly haired girl squeezed my hand and I slowly exhaled. "You don't have to tell me what happened. But if you do, l can help." she said. I let out a shaky breath and tried to not look like I was crying too much. I didn't want to dump all my problems on the poor girl but I continued. "During flying, the broom didn't come to my hand no matter how hard I tried. " I said, wincing at the horrible memory. "Do you need something? A snack, a friend, some space alone? Kylie asked worried, "I can leave if you want to be alone! You know what? Sorry for disturbing you! Kylie said. I shook myself out of my crying state again. "NO, Kylie please don't leave." I said, trying to sound selfish. Then I laughed for the first time that day. "Unless your coming back with a snack." I started to feel better but the memory dragged me down like I was underwater with a rock tied to my ankle. "Actually..." I said, noticing the smell of the bathroom for the first time. "If we eat anything, we better not eat in here. Can we talk about the smell! I mean come on? And this floor is probably so dirty. What happened to me where did my sense go?" I said, masking up that feeling of sadness. I stood up and helped the curly haired up to her feet. "What's your name? I love your hair by the way." I hoped it wasn't too suspicious that I went from sad to happy quite quickly. Because I was honestly still sad.

Maybe l'm not so hopeless after all.
For years l wondered why l couldn't seem to get this 'friend' thing down. Why people always looked at me weird like l was the problem. Maybe l was... but not this time. This time l think l might have actually done something right.
"During flying, the broom didn't come to my hand no matter how hard I tried. "
l felt my heart ache, l never had a problem with getting a broom off the ground, my father had me practicing relentlessly since l first got my magic. l can't imagine how embarrassed she felt. l felt a little better when she asked Kylie to stay (or to come back with a snack, which now that l think about it doesn't sound half bad.)
"Actually..." she said, probably noticing the smell from the look on her face. "If we eat anything, we better not eat in here. Can we talk about the smell! I mean come on? And this floor is probably so dirty. What happened to me where did my sense go?"
l let out a giggle and l cover my mouth to muffle it.
"l don't know! But your right we should probably get out of here."
As we stood up l brushed off my robes and l smiled at Tina.
"What's your name? I love your hair by the way."
l twirl a bit of my hair sub consciously, before l went to Hogwarts, kids made fun of my hair a lot! l still feel a little insecure about it.. but Tina seemed to be genuine so l shook off my feelings.
"Mary. Mary Bueno at your service."
l did a dramatic bow and l linked my arm through her's and my other arm through Kylie's.
"Come on girls, lets get out off this dirty bathroom and down the yellow brick road."
l suddenly felt so happy. Maybe it was because we were leaving the bathroom.
Nah.
It was because l felt like l had friends.
