A horrible day

I had had a bad day. A very, very bad day. When I'd woken up, I'd fallen out of my bed, crashing into the floor, causing bruises to appear all up my legs and arms. Then, going down the stairs to breakfast, I tripped on the edge of my cloak, and fell, my books all falling out of my bag. Then, the page I needed for my lesson had torn out, and I was told off. So, now, instead of going to my next lesson, I was sitting in the bathrooms. I huddled up into the corner, and pulled my favourite murder mystery book out of my bag, and opened it to the page I was up to. It was drenched, the ink running off the page, onto my fingers, and I sat there, staring at it in shock. How had that happened? I put my head onto my hands, and sat there for who knows how long. Every time I told myself that it was stupid, that I needed to get a grip, I looked at the book, and stopped focussing again. It wasn't the book in particular that was the problem, as I actually had lots more copies of it sitting on my shelf at home. But, this was just a rubbish day in a pile of lots more rubbish days. My hand reached inside my robe, and I pulled out the most recent letter from my family. It was only a few lines, so much shorter than the letters I'd got from them even just at the beginning of this year. And, for the first time ever, it was just signed off from my mum, not even mentioning my dad in one place on it. I had no idea what happened. They were happy together, weren't they. Suddenly, I felt tears come to my eyes. In a sudden flash of anger, I ripped the letter into two pieces. I put them on the floor in front of me, pulled out my wand, and incanted "Incendio". I watched with a sense of satisfaction as they burnt to a crisp, and I picked them up, and put them into my bag. Good riddance.
Just then, I heard a noise, a person was coming into the toilets. I wondered how stupid I must look, with a drenched book in front of me, and me, sprawled out on the floor. I stood up, put the book into my bag, and walked over to the sink, as though I had just walked out of a toilet cubicle.
Then, my eyes started watering again, and I felt myself dissolve into tears. I tried to brush them off, but they just kept coming, and coming.

“Oh-Uh you ok?”
It had been a fairly normal day. Well, as normal as it could get. Of course, she had been laughed at, looked at as if she was a creature on display, and probably whispered about. No, actually there wasn’t really a probably. She had most definitely been whispered about.
Apart from that, the day had been pretty normal, sure, she had gotten as essay in Potions to write about Moonstone and it’s Uses. She would have to go to the library soon after visiting the lavatory. She also had to research about some stuff for Astronomy, the one subject she enjoyed the most.
She walked in, hearing the tap running. At least it was fairly quiet in here. She walked in the lavatory to see a girl, whose name was Miranda or something? Oh yeah, Mirada. She was a Gryffindor, same year as Laurie.
She was….a mess. Her backpack and its contents were sprawled over the floor, and she was sobbing into her hands. She probably had a bad day.
Laurie rushed to her side, putting her backpack down beside Mirada’s
“Hey, hey. It’s fine, what happened?”
She sat down beside her, encouraging Mirada silently to go on. Maybe she could help her.
A horrible day

I tensed up. Someone had just come in, and asked me if I was okay. Then, she walked over, and put her bag down next to mine, and sat down next to me, asking what had happened.
"Why do you care?" I didn't mean to say such harsh words, even if they were said in my gentle voice, that people generally couldn't hear.
The tap was annoying me, so I stood up quickly, and walked over to it, turning it off as quickly as I could. Then, I went back over to where my bag had been lying, and picked up my book, and all the other things that had fallen out, and put them back in. I sat back down, keeping my distance from the other girl. I did vaguely recognise her, and I realised she was in my year, but a different house. Although, I wouldn't have been able to say which house, without looking at her robe, which was a Slytherin one.
I sighed. Everyone told me that a problem shared was a problem halved. But, did I really believe that. I always thought it sounded stupid.
But, I didn’t want to come across as rude, ignoring someone who was just trying to help me.
So, I spoke, just as quietly as normal, “I’m fine. It’s just been a horrible day.”

Song: Bad Day by Daniel Powter
Speech
“Do I care? Yes, yes I do. No one else cares about me, the least I can do is make sure you don’t go through the same thing. No one ever should.”
She put an arm around Mirada. “I’m Laurie, Laurie Holmes. Bad day? Had loads of those. But after each one, there was some silver lining.”
She reassured Mirada, even though that wasn’t something she could confirm she believed in. Silver linings didn’t exist in her world. Only rotten endings did. She had gotten used to them by now, like she had gotten used to being talked about behind her back. That definitely wasn’t something she was proud of, but it just didn’t hurt the way it used to before. Before it was like a knife stabbing her. The knife lost its sharpness now. Music had stopped it from piercing too hard into her flesh. It was the one thing that kept her sanity in check.
Everyone had something that calmed them down. All she had to figure out was what was Mirada’s. Till then, she had to persuade her by her own ways to tell her what happened. But the state she found her in, it was probably a lot of things, not that Laurie was judging, she knew that type of feeling all too well.
She sang in a sweet low tone, “Because you had a bad day, you're taking one down, You sing a sad song just to turn it around. You say you don't know, you tell me, don't lie…”
She really hoped it would calm her down the way it did Laurie.
