For a moment, Corrine can’t help but get lost in her thoughts. Although she can imagine what it’s like to have allergies to some kind of food, it doesn’t sound pleasant whatsoever. What if the food you’re allergic to is something you really like? Then you’d have to swear off of it forever. The girl frowns, her eyebrows furrowing in distaste. I would hate to be allergic to my favorite food.

Although the notion of it was silly, Corrine quietly hoped to herself that she’ll never have to experience being allergic to a food she really, really likes. She’d rather be forced to socialize on a somewhat daily basis in a room full of people she doesn't know rather than losing her favorite food. . which, honestly, was saying plenty about how much she loved her food.

Before her thoughts moved on, Paul had started talking about his sister’s fur allergy, even going on to mention how her body had swollen up due to the cat’s fur, making Corrine wince at the description. Not pleasant, she concluded, shivering.

“It’s possible she might be allergic to Kneazle fur too,” Corrine mumbled, rubbing her forehead. “They’re pretty similar, I think. . And I don’t see why wizards couldn’t make it easier on themselves about allergies. There’s likely something out there.”
When Paul had finally realized what she had called him and asked about it, her cheeks flushed in embarrassment. “..I couldn’t think of any other nickname for you,” she honestly said. “But in my head, you’re really.. sunny. It’s the Latin word for the ‘sun’. If you don’t like it, that’s fine.” The girl averted her eyes.

Seeing that Paul looked worried and even a little guilty, her heart warmed. It’s not like she had moved away from what he had said, it’s just that she really didn’t want to get him sick at all. “I know.” She murmured, looking back at her friend with a smile, though it’s clearly affected by the dizziness she’s currently experiencing. “I’m just worried that I’ll pass it along, that’s all. I don’t wanna get you sick, Sol.”

"Thought so." Paul humms, after being told by Cor, who he considers to be a wiser authority on everything magical apparently, rocking back on his chair and leaning against the desk behind. He then turns his head to check out who's actually sitting at the desk behind their, to find out that it's two Puff girls. Whom he chooses to grace with a crooked smirk, murmuring something like: "Sorry for swinging. Hope I'm not a distraction!"

Inadvertently, he's not stopped listening to his neighbour, and when she speaks about how wizards should make it easier on themselves, he breathes in to talk. "Hm, I bet that there's a potion or a Charm or something, preventing allergic reactions from occurring. I mean, even Muggles have this... injection that has to be applied when a reaction occurrs. Wizards must have something too." Says the boy, swinging back down when the topic comes to the nickname.

Paul smirks at her, shaking his head. "The nickname sounds.. hm, good. Thanks that you see me as a... uhm, the sun. I guess I prefer my name though." Says the boy reflectively after a while. "Oh, and pardon for my manners. Should have given you a choice as well." He says quietly, in almost a whisper, stitching his eyebrows over his own behaviour.

After that, Paul takes his quill again, to distract himself from his gloomy-ish thoughts and puts it closer to the disgusting plant. This time around, however, he really touches it with it, watching as one of the tumors on it bursts and an amount of petrol-like liquid spurts around on the desk and, surprisingly, his quill. The latter, he brings up to his nose and sniffs at the liquid eagerly.

"Whoa... cool!" Paul's eyes sparkle with leftovers of genuine curiosity, as he turns to Cor. "It really does smell like petrol. Wanna smell it?" Says the boy, after doing the silliest, if not the dumbest experiment ever. And he even dares to offer Cor to smell the liquid too.

It wasn't long before their professor had finished their lecture, announcing that their homework was readily available. Corrine turned back to her parchment paper, seeing the orderly notes she’d made with her quill, accompanied by small doodles of the plants that they’d discussed. The girl eyed her quill in slight distaste. As pretty as the writing utensil was, she considerably favored her ballpoint pens. Not only did it feel nicer to hold, but it also just felt smoother to write with.

I wonder if there are any rules about ballpoint pens, Corrine sighed, shaking her head. I’ll have to ask around. I don’t hate quills, but I miss my pens already..

Hazel eyes drift over to her friend, who had just ceased his chair rocking. It’s good to know that he didn’t seem to mind the nickname, which made her feel considerably relaxed. “I don’t mind if you prefer your name. And, for what it’s worth, I’m used to nicknames.” She mumbled to him.

Thinking back to it now, her family was particularly fond of nicknames. Each single member of her family had somebody they often called her. Her father was awfully fond of calling her his precious lotus, just as her Nana called her sweetheart. Even her ever so quiet grandfather called her his little fae, likely as a nod to her middle name. Just the thought of her family alone made her smile, and for a moment, she’s able to ignore the ache in her body to turn to Paul. “I really don’t mind either way, but I’ll stick to your name for now.” She chuckled.

Unexpectedly, she watched with wide eyes as the boy picked up his quill, only to poke it into the plant, picking up some of the pus. As the boy inspected the petrol-like substance on his quill, Corrine crinkled her nose at the smell all the way from here, and she couldn't help but shy away slightly. “No thanks,” she mumbled, not wanting to smell the substance any further.

“I really don’t mind either way, but I’ll stick to your name for now.”
"Okay, thanks." Said Paul, giving her a warm smile.

Nicknames were part of his identity. Whenever someone did something or looked like something that reminded him of an object, a person or an animal, he'd call them that. His whole family called him footballer ever since he started playing, which was some six years ago, and which defined him, until he got his Hogwarts letter, finding out he was a wizard. His sister had already used the word witch repeatedly to address him in the past two months, after he received the Hogwarts letter. His telling her it was wizard, not witch, didn't help though. Hopefully, she was just joking.

With the thought of his family, he had to smirk. He missed them a lot, understandably. The Turners were a witty bunch of people, some of them more of a prankster than others. They all had one thing in common though, and that was sense of humour and mischief.
He was expecting a reply from his parents, to the letter Cor helped him fix. And perhaps, he would get a letter from his sister too, with at least, some drawing or painting if not writing (though she was way better than him at it).

Seeing Cor's reaction to the pus, Paul chuckled, lifting the quill and moving it closer to her, just to do the opposite of what she was doing, to annoy her. "Ha ha, would you like some slime? Though it's not as cool as the Muggle one, which actually smells nice." Likely speaking about a kind of a toy which is normally sold in Muggle shops, Paul withdraws from endangering her with the Bubotuber slime, putting his now slightly dryer quill into the ink and taking his only note from today's lesson. 'Bubotuber: slime smells like petrol, see your quill.'

"Hm... but what if it dries. Can it still burn?" He asks, looking at Cor. "Uhm... do you want to try or shall I? Either way, we can use the Cure for Boils that we made in Potions to heal the boil it then."

Seeing Paul smile at her statement about sticking to his name, Corrine felt herself relax, nodding to herself to stick to her words as much as possible.

Not long after the silence—though few would call it silence as she did, considering their classmates’ mixed reactions and chatter in the background—settled between them, Paul jokingly waved the quill closer to her, making the girl whine in protest. Chuckling lightly, he said, “Would you like some slime? Though it’s not as cool as Muggle one, which actually smells kind of nice.” The girl knew exactly what he meant regarding the ‘muggle’ slime, and she definitely agreed. Seeing as Paul was still waving the dirty quill around in her space, she pouted and blew a raspberry at him.

That did nothing to stop Paul from bringing it closer to her, making her tense, but she remained in place. Corrine had made her boundaries clear, and she wanted to trust that Paul would keep it in mind. The feather stopped shy of touching her, and her friend pulled it back just as quickly, making her smile.

She was right to trust him in that moment, and that made her happy.

Paul was quietly writing something down with his ink when he glanced back at her once again, but this time with a thoughtful look on his face. Corrine was starting to sense that there’s a pattern here; anytime he had that look on his face, he would end up suggesting something odd or do something reckless. Would that be the case again?

“What if it dries? Can it still burn?”

Called it, she giggled, shaking her head. By now, her headache had faded slightly, though shaking her head certainly didn’t help. Nonetheless, she ignored it in favor of listening to Paul’s follow-up query.

Once again, he proceeded to prove her internal joke correct as he said, “Do you want to try it or shall I? Either way, we can use the Cure for Boils that we made in Potions to heal the boil then.” Corrine didn’t think Paul could surprise her any further, but as it turned out, she was almost completely wrong. Trying it out? On ourselves? Corrine blinked, her jaw dropping slightly as she didn’t know what to say. Weren’t we just warned about not touching it without supervision? What if our professor gets angry?

She spared a glance back at his quill, unsure. She didn’t want to get in trouble, and the effects that were told to them both weren’t at all pleasant. . but to say that she didn’t want to see it in person would also be an utter lie. In thought, Corrine can’t stop her fingers from fidgeting as she hummed.

After a bit, she spoke slowly and unsurely, “..If we’re really going to try this, please don’t do it on yourself. I don’t want you to get hurt.” The girl flashed her friend a weak smile. “We can do it on my arm, maybe? Somewhere it won’t bother me too much.”

She never did learn how to say no to her friends, much less prioritizing herself over others.

Paul was reckless when it came to himself, moreover in the name of his experiments. Mostly because he didn't really think of the full scope of his crazy ideas at first, like in this very situation for instance. And though Corrine tried to prevent him from doing it, he decided not to accept her offer.
“..If we’re really going to try this, please don’t do it on yourself. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Said Corrine and Paul waved her worries off. "No, it has to be me. It's my experiment. But don't worry. It will be quick and hopefully painless. The slime has dried already."

That was why the boy stopped blowing at the quill to dry faster. He swallowed hard, taking a calming breath and also exhaling. Come on Paul, this was your idea. You have to do this. Three, two, one... Then, he flicked his finger towards the Bubotuber pus-covered quill fast, touching it for a millisecond with his nail mostly but also part of the skin on his index finger.

"Hah! I did it!" Exclaimed the boy joyfully, surprised, fisting his palm lifting it up, to celebrate his victory. He even chuckled a little, looking at his neigbour. "See? I told you it was likely to be painless."

Then he took a closer look at his index finger, finding the place of the touch just a little redder. It didn't sting or anything though.

"Look, it looks like a little burn but... it also doesn't hurt?" Said the boy, frowning pensievely over the strangeness of the situation. "Hm, weird."

Unfortunately, just as Corrine expressed her concerns, she could only watch in shock as the boy waved her off, telling her that it’d be fine. Even on the off chance that it was, it’s still a big risk that Corrine didn’t want to take. What if there were adverse side effects? What if it had the same effects as the non-dried slime? Corrine has to make sure that she can bolt as fast as possible to their professor before things go too far!

Tensing, Corrine watched quietly as the boy calmed himself for a moment before reaching out. In a quick manner, the boy flicked his finger just enough for the Bubotuber pus on the quill to make contact, before pulling back just as quickly. He grinned, looking proud of himself for bravely testing it out.

As Paul grinned in pride to himself, Corrine felt like her soul just exited her body. Even though it was practically just a millisecond, it felt like it lasted longer than that. Not even hesitating, Corrine pushed herself closer to his side of the table, her hands reaching out to cradle the one that had touched the dried slime. Not good! She panicked, leaning her face closer to the hand that had been affected. It was red, perhaps not by much, but more than enough to spark worry. Vaguely, it even looked like a burn.

“Are you sure it doesn’t hurt? What if you’re just not processing it?” The girl fussed, glancing around to make sure that the professor hadn’t noticed the boy’s experiment. “What if we actually have to take you to the hospital wing? Do you feel weird? Anything strange?”

“Are you sure it doesn’t hurt? What if you’re just not processing it?”

"I'm positive." The boy answered her first question, inspecting his finger, which was now in her hands. There was a significant likelihood that their heads would collide at some point, as they were both watching the scope of the injury closely, perhaps even too closely.

"Dunno..." He looked at her after that, his eyes narrow with thought and suspicion. "Is it even possible not to be processing it? I mean, I don't think that's the matter. Quite some time has passed already. I'm not... in shock anymore." Paul tried to speak as quietly as possible, not to attract the professor's attention.
“What if we actually have to take you to the hospital wing? Do you feel weird? Anything strange?”

Paul shook his head after that, pulling his finger out of her grip. "No... I think? I'm hungrier than I was when I came here, but that's normal, right?"

He paused for a second, packing up his things, as everyone started packing, standing up from their seats and leaving. The professor must have finished the lesson and he missed it... what a scandal.

So he stood up too, leaning back, forth and to the sides, to stretch his muscles. Then he took his backpack, throwing it onto his back. "Well, the result of this lesson is that the Bubotuber isn't that horrific when the pus dries. It's like... hm... a sting of a nettle, I'd say." The boy shrugged his shoulders, waiting for Cor to pack up too.

"So, what's next?"

Despite Paul’s reassurance, Corrine couldn’t help herself from checking one last time, frowning. The skin still looked red, but from what she could see, there wasn’t anything else visible. She doesn’t mean to doubt Paul like that, but it’s hard not to worry considering the consequences could’ve been bad. “Sorry,” Corrine mumbled, “I know you’re probably fine. If you were in shock, it’d be visible by now.. But you’re reacting just fine. I’m just overreacting.” She finally let go, just in time to look up and see that the rest of the students were packing up.

Oh, Corrine flushed, embarrassed. We missed the entire latter half of the class. Oops. The girl glanced down at her parchment, seeing that she had barely written anything. The bottom half looked extremely empty, and she knew well that there had been plenty of material to write down. She just couldn’t—more like didn’t—as she had been too busy focusing on Paul. How humiliating.

When she glanced down at Paul’s parchment, it was also in a similar state of emptiness. She must’ve distracted him too, much to her shame. I should’ve shut myself up, she pursed her lips, quietly reaching for her bag. It didn’t take much for her to pack her things, since only the parchment and her quill was out.

“The sting of a nettle still doesn’t sound pleasant, though.” Corrine said tiredly, slinging her bag over her shoulder. “I can’t believe you didn’t even hesitate.” She glanced down at her schedule, which had been conveniently placed in an easy-access pocket of her bag.

“I have Potions next, so I might have to walk fast.” She murmured, her shoulders falling. Usually, Potions was a pretty fun class, but today just hadn’t been a good enough day to warrant excitement. She wished she could just go back to her dorm and continue sleeping the rest of the day away. “Do you have class next?”
