The Sorting

When Evelyn got the letter she was going to Hogwarts, she was ecstatic. Her father had went there, and so had her aunts and uncles. They had told her of the picturesque grounds, the beautiful views from the towers, and (of course), the magical castle itself. And she was pleased to know that they had not exaggerated Hogwart’s beauty.

However, one thing they failed to mention was the Sorting Ceremony. Or more specifically, the Sorting Hat.

”It’s…it’s a singing hat. A hat that sings.” Evelyn thought, staring at the hat with shock. Daddy had failed to tell her this part. ”And it’s not even good at singing!”

And even more shocking to her, she was expected to sit there, in front of every person at Hogwarts and have her future told to them all. Now, usually Evelyn had no problem with attention…but usually the attention she got was from her family or people her age. Not teenagers. She couldn’t embarrass herself!

So when “Summerfield, Evelyn,” was called, she sauntered right up with all the confidence she could muster, and let the Sorting Hat decide her fate.

After a few fateful moments, the hat called out “SLYTHERIN!” Cheers came from one of the four tables. She suspected that was the Slytherin Table. She quickly made her way over, already sick of the stares being pointed at her. She sat next to another girl who seemed to be around Evelyn’s age (she hoped, at least). A few of the older kids congratulated her and patted her on the back and the head. A big, proud grin formed on Evelyn’s face. She was officially a Hogwarts student.
