THE RED QUEEN'S LABYRINTH
(Group 4)

Image posted by the member

Whimsy was in the air, for it was the morning of the Wonderland Waltz at last! Many attendees shuffled and skipped around in their rooms, preparing their finest robes and accessories for the occasion. Though, not all were still sewing the last pearls onto their gowns or choosing their cufflinks.

Brave souls who have taken up the challenge of The Red Queen's Labyrinth have all gathered today in the Small Hall. Each possessed a key that had been delivered to them by an owl, each customised in pattern and shape to match only one door.

Players would feel as if they had entered a life-sized rabbit’s burrow upon entering the Small Hall. Numerous doors spanned the seemingly endless corridor, lying in wait for their chosen group of challengers. Some doors were round, others triangular. The possibilities seemed endless as colours and patterns blurred together from a birdseye view.

Upon fitting one's key into the correct door, the door will swing open to reveal an elegant European garden. Jade green hedges adorned with ruby red roses towered over the players, winding in all sorts of odd angles and curves. It was a maze, and players were faced with the mouth of the beast.

Obstacle 1

Upon taking your first steps into the maze, players will be led down a colourful checker-patterned path. Approaching the end of this path, it became narrow, looping once to reveal the first challenge in their way.

Upon stepping to the end of the path, the leaves of the hedge walls would begin to rustle violently. The ground trembled a little as the once singular hedge wall ripped itself apart, revealing THREE PATHWAYS.

Popping colours, vivid shades: The first path was colourful in many ways. Fungi of all colours and varieties were richly scattered across the path, making the dirt look more like a fruit cake from afar. If you lean too close, some might get mischievous and start to spit rainbow spore clouds at you!

The saying goes, “No journey is taken alone!” Come forth, social butterflies, for on the second path lies countless eyes. Beady-eyed garden gnomes danced in arrow formations in the centre of the path, as if inviting the players in. Even from the entrance, the faintest giggling and a peculiar song of gibberish filled the air.

Elegant, refined, a royal’s heart must never be satisfied. The third path was tailored fit for royalty. The golden arch at the entrance glimmered in the sunlight, and beyond it, beautiful ruby roses were intertwined into the emerald hedges. Opulence was in the air, and the gentle flow of a fountain could be heard down the perfect path.

A riddle is written on an oval sign in loopy letters:
Before you lay a path split in three,
But only one will be a breeze!

Will you go down the first path where life's abundant,
And flourishing nature is the ruler incumbent?

Or prepare for a party,
For the company of critters on the second path is nothing short of hearty.

Opulence, oh, a dream of many.
On the third path where riches a-plenty await,
It is up to you to seize your fate.

One last advice.
Heed it, it shall suffice:
To brave the jungle
is to have a knowing local in the bundle.
To go without, you'd best have an out!

Choices, choices, three too many choices! Which one will you take, brave challengers?

After entering with her friends, Mira looks at what is in front of her in awe. This is her first time ever in a maze, and she feels a bit dizzy at the three paths ahead. Among them, only one would be the right path. One wrong choice, and she and her teammates might fail the game.

But Mira soon calms down. She is from the Horned-Serpent house of Ilvermorny, which is like Ravenclaw of Hogwarts. She has a bestie from Ravenclaw, who has taught her some of the riddles they have faced at the entrance of their common room. Mira is not that unfamiliar with riddles. She reads the words on the parchment carefully.

'Curious' she murmurs as she reads. The first few pararaphs emphasizes the fact that only one path can be the right one, and describes the three paths. But the last paragraph, using bigger letters than the rest, seems to be the key to finding the right path.

Mira reads for three times. 'A knowing local.' she says quietly. She knows which path to choose. But she needs to ask the rest for advice first. 'I have an idea.' she says softly, 'It says we need a local to lead us,and the second path has gnomes as guides. I suggest choosing the second path! What do you think...'

To make you feel like what we had.
Wonderland eerily reminded her of her own family's origins and dwellings. The witch could not help herself from feeling immense familiarity, the whimsical aesthetic that clung to every edge of Hogwarts. Indeed, it was a spring ball, the theme being wonderland, reminiscing to the muggle book Alice in Wonderland. It was one of her favourites, from the few that she read. Muggle literature was always fascinating, especially ones that depicted magic and magical beings. She would sit by the fireplace in her Manor, warm tea in her hands, and cackling at the absurdity that those writers wrote. It was—and still is— a great amusement.

Clutching the periwinkle silk of her gown, she approached the Small Hall with great anticipation. If it was upto her, she would've chosen something carmine, glimmering of blood. But Alas, her mum heard one word of Alice and chose something blandly blue. Granted, it was not a bad choice, far from it, but she missed her crimson. Twirling the key without much thought, a sly smile playing at her lips, steps increasing speed as she reached. The key was delivered to her by owl, so mysteriously she jested about it being akin to a heist. But it was no heist, but a maze.

The Small Hall looked entirely like a large rabbit's burrow, and she was Alice as she fell down through the hole. But instead for holes, there were doors of many shapes and sizes, each one peculiar from another. Trusting her unreliable intuition again, she blindly walked to a door that spoke to her, hoping it may be the one. And as the key clicked against the one, it opened.

Upon entering a garden, she was once again faced with choices. Three paths lined in front of her, with riddles displayed for each one. The first path was adorned with fungi of different colours, but too colourful..

The second one thrived of gnomes, a familiar presence. While the third was magnificently opulent, but too royal. The riddle held a clue to the correct choice, speaking of a knowing local. The only one familiar enough was the gnomes, and it could only be the second path. Lost in her thoughts, she was then aware of neglecting her teammates. With a blinding smile stretched, " Yes, I agree. It must be the second path. "
And in the end, in Wonderland, we both went mad.

All dressed in the same sparkling navy blue suit and matching capelet that she had worn to the pageant and would wear to the ball later in the evening, Aly Salinger met her group-mates for the Labyrinth maze at the predetermined time on the morning of the 19th. She knew only one of them on sight, her teammate from Ravenclaw Quidditch and current rival for the Spring Royalty crown @Ebony Vetra, and despite the fact that the two girls were likely going head-to-head for the Queen position, she still bumped Ebony's side with a gentle elbow and offered her a friendly smile upon arrival. The other three were unfamiliar to her: a boy about her age (@Verona Andréas) and two younger girls (@Estella Cain and @Mira Hawkins). Still, the butterfly girl waved to them, having no qualms about making new friends in this pursuit to win this little competition in which they had found themselves, and introduced herself so that they would all know her name.

The elder of the two younger girls, who had a strange, flattened accent and strangely light eyes, suggested the second path, and the younger of the pair (a blonde child in a periwinkle peacock-patterned gown) grinned and agreed. The Ravenclaw, then, took a peek at this aforementioned riddle, sweeping aside her crystal-studded cape as she whispered the lines under her breath. "Most of it is just description," she murmured, brushing her fingers over the cursive embedded upon the oval-shaped sign. "But this last bit, here, seems to be the most important because it talks about the knowing local. Do either of the other paths have people or creatures on them?" Aly glanced up, her eyes tearing apart the overgrowth of path one and path three's over-the-top opulence, then turned back to her groupmates and nodded. "Doesn't seem like it. Path two it is, then. Nice job!"

The seventh-year moved bravely forwards, ready to tiptoe down the gnome-filled route, hoping she wouldn't squash any of the little babbling creatures underfoot. After a moment, she turned and waved on her assigned groupmates. "Well? Are you lot coming with me?"

ROUND 1 MOD POST
(Group 4)

Group 4 was an interesting and the most international team of all; there were, of course, Hogwarts students and also students from Castelobruxo and Ilvermorny. Although there were competitors for the Spring Royalty in the group, they seemed perfectly friendly with each other. As they saw the riddle, Mira Hawkins was soon to speak up about their thoughts about it, and the keywords in the riddle had already been found. Estella Cain agreed with Mira while observing the three respective paths. Aly Salinger joined the discussion with her own remark. The other two members seemed to be a bit absentminded. Upon reaching a conclusion, Aly made the first move and led the group into the second path.

For players who chose to brave the SECOND PATH, they would find themselves rewarded! Players who walked down the path would be excitedly crowded and shuffled along the path by the dancing garden gnomes present. Despite their excited gibberish, the gnomes would soon prove to be the “knowing locals” that the riddle hinted at. Without trouble or hurdles, the group would find themselves in overly friendly, but safe hands. The peaceful passage through the breezy, grassy path with the cheery gnomes would eventually lead them to the second obstacle in the labyrinth…

Obstacle 2

At the end of the correct path lay the next obstacle for our brave challengers. Before them stood a door buried deep in neat, jade hedges. The air smelled of fragrant roses, and there was nothing around other than roses, hedges, and that mysterious door. If players were to try and twist its shimmering rose-gold handle, they would find it locked. A keyhole could be found beneath the handle. It was unusually small, smaller than most keyholes. To the right of the door, between a trimmed hedge and a stone wall, players would find a table. Resting on the table was a silver key, the metal glinting in the sunlight.

Above the door, a wooden, heart-shaped sign swings with the following riddle:

A key that’s right but far too tall,
Will never fit a door so small!
Shrink the problem, not the door...
Then the key may be used once more.

Oh dear, such a predicament. Perhaps this will be a job for those wands!

In a stroke of luck, Aly's entire group followed her down the second path. She couldn't exactly take credit for the correct answer, but leadership came more naturally to her now that she had been a Quidditch captain for over a year. Though the tiny gnomes ran underfoot, and Aly had to perform what was essentially a high-kneed jig so as to not trample any of them on accident, the path was clearly the right choice - there were no problems, no challenges, nothing but emerald grass and mildly annoying gibberish-like chatter.

When they finally found themselves free of the overly friendly locals, Aly and co. wound up in a fragrant dead end. The seventh-year poked at the hedges, absentmindedly running her slender fingers over the shimmering leaves as she read out the riddle above the door. Despite the couple inches her heeled boots added to her diminutive stature, the Ravenclaw was still quite petite, and she had to crane her neck back in order to read it properly. "A key that's right but far too tall... shrink the problem..." Her green gaze alit upon the silver key resting on the table nearby, and she pulled out her wand from the inside of her suit jacket, where she had hand-sewn a wand pocket specifically in case of situations like this in which it was needed. Freshly polished, the wand itself sparkled in the golden rays of bright sunlight, carved of accomplished aspen wood and having been taken care of quite well over the past (nearly SEVEN) years. "Well, I think the answer's quite clear. Hope no one minds if I give it a shot?"

If none of her teammates voiced their opposition, Aly would point the wandtip directly at the key. "Reducio!"

As soon the day had turned to a brand new day, O Menino Brasileiro or in English roughly translae as the Brazilian boy jumped up from his bed with a surge of extra energy that Ronnie didn't know he possessed. The boy quickly showered and put on his soft lavender tux that will match with his date for the Spring Ball.

Ronnie supposed to be one of the competitors foe this year Royal Sprimg King, but for unexplicable reason, the Sixth-year drew out from the pageant and let just the other in the spotlight. Oh well, there's still next year the boy thought internally. Once he had dressed for the occasio, the Duelist follow the mass throng of people shuffling into the small hall of Hogwarts.

Before this very day, Ronnie was co ntemplanting wbether he will go to Hogearts for the Spring Ball or not. He is knd of afraid that he will run into his exgirlfriend, Haley Rose. But Hogwarts is a big castle and place to be. And if Ronnie bound to meet Haley, so be it.

Anyhow, back to the matter at hand. After Ronnie found his group and group mates, he introduced himself. It was a little bit awkward since Ronnie was the only boy in the geoup. But luckily, he know a familiar face. "Olá, belezura!
Hello, beautiful!"The boy said in Portuguese to Ebony Vetra and wink at her playfully.

As ssoon as the door to the maze opened, Ronnie played 'follow the leader' as he tagged along and nodded his head accordingly. The group had succesfully passed the first obstacle amd now the five of them were facing the second obstacle of the mze from the earlier path that they chose.

"Sure. Go ahead!"The tall Castelobruxo student said to Aly Salinger. Ronnie's blue-grey eyes watched the wandtip of Salinger's executing the Reducio spell with rapt attention.

Mira is excited when they walk into the second path and realize that it is the right one. She has just given a right suggestion. Before joining the labyrinth, she has panicked a bit. She knew there are some elder students, who are much more experienced and knows way more spells than she does. What if she ends up doing nothing good to the team? What if all her ideas are rejected or simply ignored? Now, on the other hand, she is no longer worrying. Her teammates are friendly, and she just proved that her existence in the team is not a mistake.

To the second obstacle, she studies the riddle. A key too big for the keyhole. 'Shrink the problem' the riddle suggests. The key is the problem. They need to shrink the key. 'Maybe...' she wants to suggest casting reducio, the shrinking spell. She has no advantage in spell casting. She only knows a few spells, and she has little real time practice.

Just then, an elder girl in the team suggests performing the spell reducio confidently. Mira recognizes that she is Aly Salinger. 'I agree.' she says, 'this seems the most reasonable answer to the problem.' She stands aside, ready to study the girl's wand movement and incantation carefully, hoping to learn some more.

In a blink of her eye, the next obstacle arrived without warning. It was in very wonderland fashion, alluring enough to forget the ticking of clocks. Without company, Estella could easily spend an eternity here without knowing. They arrived in a garden of roses and hedges of jades, a picturesque sight full of romanticism. To the young trickster, it was entirely her domain. Every second in the labyrinth caused her extreme happiness, a sense of belonging. Even if she was in the company of seniors twice her age and experience, the almost whimsical demeanour stayed just the same.

The second path turned out to be correct, and joy was evident on her face. They were on the right path, and without much issues, they could easily win. Still in the mirth of victory, she moved on to the next obstacle. They were faced with a door adorned with all that flora that seemed to flood the garden. With a closer look, she could see that the keyhole was unnaturally small, and the key far too big. Wands would have to dance for this obstacle, and the spell for such an occasion was on her tongue. There was no wish in her heart to cast it, lest she made the matter worse and potentially stomping their opportunity as well. Students far more skilled were here, and her wand could sit comfortably in her pocket. She spared a quick glance to the riddle, and one glimpse of it certified that her guess was correct after all.

Without much seconds to idle away, the seventh year, who had just introduced herself as Aly Salinger, chose to cast it. Estella agreed with the choice, with her expertise, they could finish sooner this way. Though she would miss it a little, this event was easily her favourite among all Hogwarts hosted. She smiled encouragingly at her senior, charming as ever.

—And in the end, in Wonderland, we both went mad.

School events in which Ebony was present were an irregularity. She had arbitrarily decided to take part in this “labyrinth” — a maze of sorts, she presumed, though she had yet to join any similar events in her five years of being a part of the studentry. If it were a typical year, she would have been holed up in her dorm and hunched before a canvas or an essay or something of the sort. The labyrinth did present itself as intriguing, however; the Red Queen’s Labyrinth. Though not particularly familiar with Muggle Literature herself, Wonderland was a notion that piqued her interest. She wondered what obstacles — or horrors — awaited them within the labyrinth. The maze was sure to be more exciting than the ball, at the very least.

Upon arriving, the brunette was taken aback by the strange amalgamation of students present in her assigned group. There was Aly and Ronnie — the former who was Ravenclaw’s well-tenured Quidditch captain, the latter a boy from Castelobruxo whom Ebony had met during the International Magic Olympic Games in Koldovstoretz — and then there were two younger girls. One, a Gryffindor who was dressed rather ostentatiously in a patterned gown, looked somewhat familiar; perhaps she had seen them around the castle, though they were not personally acquainted. The other girl was completely foreign to her. At least there were people with whom she had interacted with before. The thought of navigating a maze with a group of strangers — which required some degree of communication and intimacy — was a frightening thought.

Although Aly was campaigning for the Spring Royalty title alongside Ebony, the captain still offered a friendly nudge. The silly pageant couldn’t have mattered less for the brunette, and she had truly admired the senior’s performance, and so she returned a smile. She was dressed in the same suit that she had worn for the pageant, and Ebony too was wearing the same dress. It seemed that most people were dressed in their opulent gowns and suits; the thought of teenagers draped in fancy fabric and adorned with fancy jewelry navigating a maze was quite amusing.

“Olá, belezura!”

The voice caught the brunette by surprise; she turned around to find the Castelobruxo boy throwing her a wink. Though she wasn’t the most well-versed in Portuguese, the short period in which she had spent at São Paulo with her mother had allowed her to learn the most basic. She had once been quite fluent, given languages were easier to pick up as a child, but after so many years, even holding a conversation was difficult. Language skills did have a tendency to erode should they not be used. Hello, beautiful it meant, she recalled. Beautiful? Did he really mean it that way? He was quite good-looking, she had to admit, and she was tempted to return the compliment — but some part of her could not believe that the boy was being genuine. After all, good-looking people were all like that, weren’t they? They smile, and then they lie, and then they charm their way into your heart. Her mind inevitably flashed back to @Pea Elena Fowl. She couldn’t believe the girl. Playing her like that; the audacity. “Uh, hi,” she instead responded in her signature awkward fashion.

The group headed down the second path on the decision of Aly and the two younger girls. Ebony couldn’t help but find herself somewhat absentminded, but she held some degree of trust in the decisions of her teammates. They could take the lead.

And it turned out her trust was indeed not misplaced. The second path was the right one. The brunette wondered what would have happened should they have taken the wrong path; would there have been monsters, waiting to be fought? Riddles, vines, traps? She would never find out, she supposed, for they had arrived at the second obstacle.

And - bloody hell, the second obstacle was pungent. The scent of the roses drifted into her nostrils, and it was enough to make her gag. She almost had the urge to incendio the roses away, burn them into piles upon piles of charred ash. It was, of course, not the wisest course of action, and a Ravenclaw certainly could not make any decision short of wise.

Before them stood a door and then a table with a too-large key — evidently, the key was supposed to go in the door. Shrink the problem, not the door, read the riddle. Reducio, of course; the answer to the riddle seemed a little too apparent, but nothing else made sense. Aly took on the task and drew her wand out, casting the spell. Though Ebony held not the slightest hint of doubt for the captain’s abilities, she too pulled her wand from its holster, prepared to cast if anything were to go wrong.
